A servo amplifier is an electronic amplifier used to power electric servomechanisms. It monitors feedback from the servomechanism and adjusts for deviations from expected behavior. Servo drives have historically used different motor types including DC, brushless DC, synchronous, and asynchronous motors. A servo drive receives a command signal, amplifies it, and transmits current to a servo motor to produce proportional motion. Servo systems are used in CNC machining, factory automation, and robotics due to the addition of motor feedback over traditional motors.
