Monica Gonzalez completed her service learning hours in Mrs. Mariana Bryson's kindergarten classroom at Miami Springs Elementary School. Mrs. Bryson teaches language arts and reading to two groups of 20 students each, mostly Hispanic. On the 100th day of school, students colored in 100 circles and answered what they would do with $100. For Dr. Seuss day, students drew pictures of where they would eat green eggs and ham. During St. Patrick's day activities, students made rainbows out of fruit loops and matched Lucky Charms cereal shapes to worksheet shapes. Monica felt she had a wonderful experience in Mrs. Bryson's exemplary classroom.

The first Thanksgiving was held in 1621 when Pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower and the Wampanoag tribe shared an autumn harvest feast. Today, Thanksgiving is commonly celebrated with a large dinner shared among family and friends that may include turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, string beans, and pie.

The students at St. Karen's Nursery School in Patna organized a project called "Studying with Smiles" to help underprivileged children in nearby villages. They realized these children lacked basic necessities and did not seem happy. The students collected donations of school supplies, toys, and toiletries. They distributed over 250 bags to children in three villages. The children had never received these items before and were eager to learn. The students felt they helped change lives by providing things the children could call their own and reasons to attend school beyond studying. The experience taught the students the impact of teamwork and giving others reasons to smile.

A drawing competition was also held where children created artwork depicting their thoughts on the environment. High school students transformed kindergarten classrooms by decorating the walls with educational drawings and rearranging the seating area into a U-shape configuration. MANTRA also started pre-service teacher training for 9 community members to create a pool of trained teachers who can help improve education in underprivileged areas.

The principal divided 40 students into 5 groups to visit a nearby rural public primary school where many children came from poor backgrounds and lacked basic school supplies. Over the week, the DAV students shared their lunches with the primary students, played games and gave prizes, collected and wrapped donated supplies, and brought much joy to the underprivileged children through their acts of kindness and generosity.

1) Students at Satya Bharti School in Balliyewal, Punjab conducted a survey that found many girls in the village dropped out of school after 5th class because there were no further education options and parents did not allow them to study.
2) Over five days, the students interacted with parents about the importance of girls' education, put up posters and slogans, held a rally with slogans, and performed a street play to motivate parents to send their daughters to school.
3) As a result of these efforts, most parents agreed to send their daughters to school or to weekend classes set up by the students to provide education for uneducated people.

Citrus Grove has around 862 students in kindergarten through 5th grade, with 99% of students being minorities, mostly Hispanic. Service Learning
Maria Tercero completed her service learning hours at Shenandoah Elementary School, a public school serving over 1,000 students in grades PK-5. The school has a 99% Hispanic student population from the surrounding Little Havana neighborhood, making language a barrier for many. Over the course of a month, Maria helped in a third grade classroom with 36 students, observing teaching strategies, giving students raffle tickets, assisting with reading fluency assessments, grading tests, helping students use reading software, and facilitating parent-teacher communication. She reflected that the experience was amazing and felt proud to help motivate and support the students' academic success.
Inclusion with Infusion
Mary Grace Phillips completed a service learning project at Fruitland Park Elementary School where she worked with two inclusion classrooms. She was part of a team of 10 UCF students divided into two smaller groups. The groups implemented engaging activities for students, such as using manipulatives, a trampoline, and a Smartboard. Phillips found the experience rewarding and saw students and teachers enjoying and benefiting from the lessons and activities. She reflected that the experience helped diminish her initial anxieties and showed her the value of different strategies for reaching students of varying abilities.

Mrs. Kaiserman's mission is to inspire and empower her second grade students by treating them with respect, believing in them, and helping them experience success. She wants students to feel safe taking risks and continuing to try when mistakes are made. Mrs. Kaiserman will build a supportive classroom community where students' ideas are celebrated, and they feel valued for their diversity. North Trail Elementary Grand Day 2011
North Trail Elementary School hosted over 200 Grandparents for a "Grand Day" at school on Friday, April 29.
Students put on a concert and gave a personal tour of their school and classroom prior to enjoying lunch! A good time was had by all.

- 2. SERVICE LEARNING • I have completed my service learning hours at Miami Springs Elementary School. • In Mrs. Mariana Bryson’s Kindergarten class. • Mrs. Bryson’s class consists of group A in the morning and group B in the afternoon. • Both groups have 20 students. • Mrs. Bryson teaches Language Arts and Reading. • Her students are mostly Hispanic and for the most part I saw the same amount of boys as girls.
- 3. 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL! Today is January 30, 2014 the 100th day of the school year. Mrs. Bryson had some fun activities planned for the students today. The students had a number 100 on a worksheet and got to color in 100 circles, and they also had a worksheet asking what they would do with $100. The FEAPS accomplished today were 2. and 3. The students used their skills to evaluate numbers and were also thinking critically and creatively.
- 4. GREEN EGGS AND HAM Today is March 1,2014, Dr. Seuss day in Mrs. Bryson’s class. Each student got a worksheet to draw a picture of where they would eat green eggs and ham. In this lesson the FEAP that was accomplished was 1. Communication: Communicate effectively using listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The students used their writing skills to communicate where they would like to eat green eggs and ham.
- 5. MORE OF DR. SEUSS DAY
- 6. ST. PATRICK’S DAY FUN! Today is March 13,2014. The kids have had a really fun and exciting day! Mrs. Bryson is getting the students ready to celebrate St. Patrick's day this week. We did some activities which included making rainbows out of fruit loops! The FEAP that was accomplished n this activity was 3. Creative/Critical Thinking & Scientific Reasoning. The students had to analyze the rainbow and make sure they had the colors in the correct order.
- 7. MORE ST. PATRICK'S DAY ACTIVITIES! In this St. Patrick’s day activity the students used Lucky Charms cereal to match the shapes on the worksheet to the shapes of the marshmallows. I believe that we accomplished FEAP 3. with this activity, the students had to analyze as well as use creativity, needless to say today was a fun day!
- 8. I had a wonderful experience in Mrs. Bryson’s class this semester. She is truly an exemplary teacher, she gives her students her all! I hope to be as good an educator as her one day in my own classroom. I am very excited to continue my journey to becoming a teacher! Thank you!
