Senior Year Essay
The first quarter is always the hardest for me, this one especially as I work a lot after school. Being
senior year I was looking to take an easy route, but instead I took hard classes to keep challenging
myself; looking back now I should have taken the easy route. The biggest struggle has been finding
time to work in homework after work, getting my work in on time, and I'm looking to improve my
quality of work for the next quarter.
Working after school is a good way to make money and I love my job, but it has been a challenge to
find time for work. Usually after work I have to drive back to parkdale and do some chores, giving
me a small time for homework. I love sleep to much to sacrifice it for work. I am working on my
time management and

Bayview Yards: Urban Landscape
Landscape, when applied to an urban context, no longer refers to prospects of a pastoral scene but
rather becomes a mean of connecting objects and spaces around it, as well as accommodating the
dynamic processes and events that move through it. These urban landscapes are not only defined by
their form, but by the program that surrounds it, as well as its ability to connect with the user
through its underlying function. The snow dump known as the Bayview yards, is an example of such
urban landscape. Bayview Yards is a 16 acre piece of land that is currently home to a derelict city
workshop and a massive area designated for a snow dump. Through the site's history and function a
new opportunity comes forward to redefine the landscape, extenuating ... Show more content on

The challenge posed here is to bring the viewer closer to the site and experience it's every
transformation. My proposed intervention introduces a series of winding pathways dedicated to
pedestrian circulation. When walking through, the snow would obscure the view around each turn,
revealing a new path. These pathways would be heated, as their main aim is to be functional in the
winter, and would connect to the streets that surround it. The paths can be used either pragmatically,
as a means to reach another destination. Or as a leisurely function to stroll down a winding path to
the riverside. The snow mounds in turn would need to conform to these paths, and would be
constricted horizontally. However they would still maintain its irregular shape, rising vertically each
time snow is

Parkdale Canada Bread: A Case Study
By comparison, Liberty Villages' securitization isn't to limit istances of violence like the
Entertainment District but instead like the Entertainment District limit the hosting of populations
and business that the Liberty Village BIA deems as a deviation from their fostering of creative
industries (Cantugal 2009; Lin 2016; Peyroux & Glascze 2012). For example, one of the last
manufacturing businesses in Liberty Village, Canada Bread, left in 2013; previous to its closure,
residents expressed irritation due to the factories noise and shipments (Cantugal et al 2009; Flavelle

How Gentrification Is Changing The Way That People View...
Introduction Parkdale is one of the most diverse areas within the city of Toronto. Gentrification is
very visible to someone who was walking through this area with the upgrading of condos, shopping
and working establishments. While reading the landscape of South Parkdale people are able to
clearly see how gentrification is changing the way that people view this area. Gentrification is
something that happens everywhere in Toronto but has slowly started taking over South Parkdale.
With the slow changing from old to new in South Parkdale it is visible to see how culture and social
power can control how things change. Another thing that influences changes in South Parkdale is
that people want a more modern look when enjoying a city. Even though gentrification may seem to
be a positive aspect there are still many things that are negative to do with gentrification.
Gentrification is a touchy subject that has affected South Parkdale in one way or another.
Gentrification in Toronto South Parkdale is looked at to be one of the most gentrifying areas within
Toronto. Many people are wanting to live closer to the inner city becoming more attractive to those
with money to make housing choice's in the downtown core (Slater, 2003). They have taken
advantage of the rush of real estate forcing a lot of people to be displaced. Queen's Hotel in South
Parkdale has caused a lot of gentrification driven displacement pushing property value up within
Parkdale (Truong, 2013). Many long–time

Papers On Homelessness
"Homeless is more than being without a home. It is tied into education needs, food, security; health
issues both mental and physical, employment issues, etc. Don't forget the whole picture." ("Boxed
In" 2005 pg. 108)
Throughout my research I found there is a real cry out for action on providing more affordable
house not just locally but throughout the country. There needs to be more funding available to build
more gear to income or subsidized housing and all levels of government need to take action.
Homelessness has different meanings to different people; someone who has never been homeless
might think homelessness is a person who lives on the street, in a tent or in a box. Many people

are forced to do without.
There are many people that are at risk of becoming homeless and some of the risks are; people with
mental health issues, women leaving domestic violence, loss of income, addictions and death of
person who was helping to financially support them.
Families require stabilized housing that is affordable, safe and maintained. If they don't have stabile
housing they are moving more often and this can effect the children's education when being moved
from school to school. The parents are unable to focus on the other areas of their lives when they are
unable to find decent housing.
As a result of the housing boom from 2005 to 2008 this had caused prices of houses to increase
around 30% within that time and I don't think that employment incomes went up that amount. This
has caused hardship in many people's lives that have overextended themselves as well as made
themselves house poor. With house prices rising up, it has made it difficult for people to be able to
find affordable adequate housing to rent or to purchase. This has caused investment properties to

child diagnosed with ADHD and the other child diagnosed with ASD. According to Fortune (2017)
ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood (Lecture 8, slide 2).
A child by default already has high energy levels and constantly needs to be active however
according to Fortune (2017), ADHD can be categorised in three types: predominantly inattentive
presentation, predominantly hyperactive–impulsive presentation and combined presentation (Lesson
8, slide 3). The child (Jon) with ADHD with whom I worked was diagnosed with predominantly
hyperactive impulsivity presentation. Jon had a hard time waiting for activities to start, and once
they did, he would not follow the rules instead he would run up on the benches then come on the
court to play with another child who was not his partner then he would run back to the instructor to
complain he was bored and wanted to do other things (the same behaviors happened when we
switched activities). However, I developed an intervention plan for Jon so that he can stay still long
enough that he can focus on tasks and be able to participate with the other children. The intervention
plan stated that Jon needed to release his energy, and gets bored very quickly, therefore, I came up
with a schedule for Jon to follow throughout the

Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory Of Moral Development
Introduction "The conscience of children is formed by the influences that surround them; their
notions of good and evil are a result of the moral atmosphere they breathe" Jean Paul Lawrence
Kohlberg (the pioneer of the second major perspective on moral development) proposed that moral
reasoning is developed when people pass through three levels which comprise of two stages each as
they grow older. He investigated the nature of moral thought by interacting with children, presenting
them with a story in which moral dilemmas were faced by the characters in the story. This is what
led to the birth of his theory of moral development. This essay therefore seeks to practically apply
Kohlberg's thesis to the real world. In so doing, it will review and evaluate the theory ... Show more

Kohlberg on Moral Development A professor at Harvard University developed a theory of moral
development which incorporated the thinking of a Swiss psychologist named Jean Piaget and an
American philosopher named John Dewey (Barger, 2000). The professor went by the name
Lawrence Kohlberg. Kohlberg mainly used Piaget's theory of moral development as the foundation
to develop these ideas further (Piaget, 1932). He incorporated the method of telling a story that
presents a dilemma that Piaget came up with, which would give people options for them to choose
what they would feel is 'right' choice (Kohlberg, 1958). Kohlberg (1984) presented the dilemmas as
moral dilemmas, and the way an individual reasoned the dilemma would determine the stage (with
regards to moral development) in which he would classify them. Kohlberg used the reasons that the
individuals gave as a way to see how moral reasoning changed as people grow

Contracts Notes
DURESS 1. Generally If one party pressures the contractual consent of another by duress the
contract is voidable by that other party (See Also s 52A TPA and s 39 FTA). The common law has
long recognised that duress, in the form of coercion of the plaintiff's will through illegitimate
pressure or threats to the plaintiff's interests, render a contract voidable (Barton v Armstrong).
Traditionally, the common law concept of duress was limited to actual or threatened violence to the
person of the contracting party or their family or near relatives constitutes duress (Seear v Cohen;
Barton v Armstrong). It appears that today, the emphasis appears to have shifted away from the
notion of coercion of the will of the plaintiff to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the purposes of economic duress, 'unconscionable conduct' refers to the effect of the pressure,
upon the quality of the consent of the pressured party, rather than the quality of the conduct of the
party against which relief is sought (Westpac Banking Corporation v Cockerill). Economic duress
may include a threat to break a contract unless it is renegotiated without any legal justification for
doing so (North Ocean Shipping Co Ltd v Hyundai Construction Co Ltd (The Atlantic Baron)).
Contract Modification Cases: Cases involving contract modification may be difficult to resolve in
practice. It has been suggested that a threat to breach a contract unless it is modified may be
distinguished from a warning, request or offer. A threat is a proposal to bring about an unwelcome
event unless the recipient of the proposal does something (Atlas Express Ltd v Kafco Ltd). A
warning is a prediction that an unwelcome event will happen or that it will happen if circumstances
arise – this is different to a threat, as the speaker has no control over the unwelcome consequence
(Williams v Roffey Brothers and Nicholls). o For example, subcontractors whose costs rise
dramatically midway through the contract sometimes advise the head contractor that unless they are
paid more, they will be forced to breach the contract. If as a result of higher costs

Reflective Paper On Moral Responsibility
Reflective Paper Regarding Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals
Dalia M Al–Rubaye
Parkdale High School
Abstract
This paper is generally about the correlation between moral responsibility and rehabilitation. Moral
responsibility was examined in the context of criminals and ordinary people. What brings about a
crime, and what impels an individuals to commit an action that he realizes is wrong. Also, the
concept of rehabilitation and the way in which it is applied were examined to deliver a better
understanding of issues regarding criminals. Examining these concepts was the key used to depict
the moral responsibility, that's innate in people, and how it should be considered in rehabilitating
criminals.
Key words: Morality, self respect, conscience, rehabilitation
Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals I am a person with very little knowledge regarding
criminology. Luckily, I've acquired some knowledge from being a girl who loves to read about
philosophy. Linking between the morals I've learned as a religious person and the theories about the
innate format of a human being presented by philosophers, I was able to initiate my thinking process
and organize my ideas. My ultimate goal was to get to the point where I'm able to decide whether
the society and I are morally responsible of rehabilitating criminals or not. Based on my trivial
knowledge, I think that we, as individuals habitating the same community, are morally responsible

Michael Briere: The Rational Choice Theory And The Control...
Intro
In the hierarchy of crimes, those involving the sexual assault and murder of children are held to be
the most despicable. The question of why individuals commit such horrendous acts have been
analyzed and discussed as society grapples to deal with such devastating incidents. The field of
Criminology has several theories as to why people commit unlawful actions. With respect to the
case of Michael Briere, a murder involving pedophilia, the Rational Choice Theory and the Control
Theory offer the best answer to the question of why he committed this extreme deviant felony.
The Crime
Michael Briere was a thirty–five year old employed software developer who lived alone in a rented

According to Detective Fiona Greenaway, one of the investigators in the case, predators are
commonly arrested for less severe sexual offences several times before they move on to extreme
offences involving murder. However, his actions fit with the Rational Choice Theory which states:
"Sometimes emotional arousal at the moment of a crime can be acute, therefore would be offenders
find themselves out of control, and rational considerations are far less salient" (Encyclopedia.com).
Since pornography was made readily available on the internet, Briere had been viewing it to satisfy
his sexual desires. His rational brain prevented him from acting on any impulses he may have had to
act it out on a victim. He was aware that the possible consequences would cause him too much pain
in the form of incarceration and social ostracism. On May 12, 2003, having his arousal peaked by
watching pornography, he lost control of his ability to control his actions through rational thinking
and grabbed Holly. This was not something he had planned out. He had never seen Holly before and
picked her only because she happened to be there. There were also no authority figures around, such
as parents, adult neighbours, or potential competent witnesses. In his interrogation, Briere confessed
that he would have let Holly go if she started to struggle because he was afraid that this would draw
the attention of someone and he would be found out (Greenaway). Once having committed the
kidnapping and sexual assault, Briere now turned his attention to avoiding detection and
punishment. Briere did not kill Holly because he would experience pleasure from this act; he did it
to prevent Holly from becoming a witness to his crime. While the Control Theory holds true with
regards to the law and the element of punishment as means of controlling behavior, as clearly this
had prevented Briere from

Trauma and Adult Learning Essay
Trauma and Adult Learning
Effects of Trauma on Learning
Adults experiencing the effects of past or current trauma may display such symptoms as difficulty
beginning new tasks, blame, guilt, concern for safety, depression, inability to trust (especially those
in power), fear of risk taking, disturbed sleep, eroded self–esteem/confidence, inability to
concentrate, or panic attacks (Mojab and McDonald 2001). Some people may manifest no
symptoms; at the other end of the spectrum is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, characterized by
flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent
expectation of danger, constriction (dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis
2001).

A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses:
Instead of diagnosing and treating "victims," find ways to make the learning environment safer for
everyone (Horsman 1997).
Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which
institutions make personal and structural violence possible and legitimize it (Pearce 1999).
Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b;
Williamson 2000).
What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring extreme
situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful
learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate
support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations,
learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in response to
trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal
qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the victim for
"inappropriate" learning or responses, but to underscore the importance of resources and support and
the recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs. Some of the
"hidden" learning from trauma includes the following:

increasing the profits of this model further. In addition, the Atherley Furniture Company greatest

Curriculum and Philosophy have a profound effect on the students learning and school environment.
It is important that teachers are aware of their philosophy and how their understanding of the

Year 9 curriculum
The year 9 curriculum is created using a subject design and a humanistic design. All students are
required to complete English, Math, science, one foreign language (Japanese or French), humanities
(geography and history) (Parkdale Secondary College, 2017a). The students are allowed to choose a
four elective, two each semester, out of the four one has to be under technology and one from arts.
This is designed so the students can experience a wide range of subject which will help them
develop a wide range of skills and knowledge. It also exposes them to different fields and how
different subject require have their unique method of thinking and applying knowledge. For each
subject the curriculum outlines the objects, content and evaluation (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017).
The connect program is designed using a humanistic approach (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017). This
program is run every Wednesday. The four domains of the connect program are city, country, self
and community. The city domain includes projects and excursion. The student work in groups to
complete an investigation task on a chosen element of the city. During the country domain the

The visual representations of the two give an idea of what would be the expectancy of traffic. Due to
that so, Good Luck road would have more private because its majority environment is consumer
oriented while its minority resides within its connected transportation to business oriented
communities. This could be exemplified in the many neighborhoods that surround Good Luck Road,
which would influence more stores, markets, and shopping malls that wouldn't be of institutions that
cater to a workforce but a specific community of amenities and other sustainable attributes. In that,
there would be more private traffic to meet these needs. Another factor that affects the private traffic
is the productivity within the workforce in the area because a specific company would require a
specific car or if promoted to such height, it can also be known as a car that was paid by the
company. But yet, the environments that connect a specific road way to another community affect its
traffic as well.
In relation to DC, the environment is likely to have an equal occurrence of both kinds of traffic
private because of how many big productions and companies that dwell within the business district
and then the small institutions that share the neighborhood's direct interest. In consideration of how

The gentrification process can be seen through the demographic and physical changes of the South

US Geological Survey Essay
Introduction During the years of 1943 and 1944, Karl M. Waage conducted a study for the U.S.
Geological Survey. The study was used to determine if the high alumina clays in south–central
Colorado could be mined as a possible source of aluminum. High alumina clay, also known as
refractory clay, is used for making brick and other materials that are exposed to high temperatures.
The refractory clays in the study were contained within formations dating to the cretaceous period
(Waage, 1953, p. 2). The layers, called strata, that contain the clay are exposed in the foothills of
Pueblo, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, and Custer Counties. In addition, the clays can be found
on the surface over much of the plains. The study area of the report focused on the clay mining
districts in the counties mentioned above (Waage, 1953, pp. 2–3). However, for the sake of length,
my report will focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The predominant landscape feature is the southern tip of the Skyline Hogback. The majority of clay
in the area can be found in the Glencairn shale member and the clay usually occurs within the top 20
ft. of the member at this location. Additionally, a smaller amount of non–refractory clay was mined
in the area. The non–refractory clay at Grape creek is located in the upper unit of the Dakota
formation where it transitions to the Graneros formation (Waage, 1953, p.79). The Graneros
formation is younger than the Dakota formation; therefore, it overrides the formation. The Graneros
is at most 200 feet thick and consists mainly of a grey to black shale (Waage, 1953, p. 53). Analysis
of the clay of the Glencairn at grape creek determined that the clay contained about 26 percent
alumina. Therefore, due to the lower percentage of alumina, the clay was semi–refractory in grade.
However, it was also determined that all the accessible clay of the Glencairn member had been
exhausted (Waage, 1953, p.

Social Housing In Toronto Essay
Within the City of Toronto, there is a heavy concentration of social housing, in the form of both
houses and buildings, in the space South of St. Clair Avenue, bordered by Jane St. to the West and
Woodbine Avenue to the East. Within this space however, rather than being evenly spaced out,
social housing developments are clustered within certain neighbourhoods, such as in and around
Parkdale and between the neighbourhoods of Moss Park, Regent Park, and the Garden district.
Outside of this space, generally speaking, social housing is placed further apart with some
exceptional clusters, such as the 18th and (portions of) the 4th community housing units, as well as
the Yonge–Eglinton area. In the peripheries of the city, social housing developments are mostly
located along major arteries, and there are very few houses, as opposed to buildings.
Compared to the distribution of France and other European countries, there isn't a concentration of
social housing purely towards the periphery of the city. Rather, social housing can be found even in
parts of the downtown core, and other high activity urban spaces. Furthermore, towards ... Show

The proximity of many social housing projects to the core definitely mitigates the problem of
geographic isolation of working class demographics, especially since many of those areas are
becoming or have become fairly well off neighbourhoods. As well, it allows for much better
mobility than at the periphery, as there is much better public transport coverage. The people living in
such developments can be closer to their jobs and commercial activity. This also substantially
decreases the risk of alienation, a large problem with French social housing, since young people
have more facilities around them. Even social housing projects that are towards the city's edges are
located on main roads, which, at least marginally, allows for better

Mental Illness Essay
Mental Illness
Mental illness is an issue that hits extremely close to home. Both of my uncles on my fathers side
developed schizophrenia in their 20's. One of them, upon being diagnosed, committed suicide. This
happened before I was born, but the fall–out is still visible in my family. The other now lives in a
home for those with mental illness. He is on medication, which helps with many of the symptoms,
and has been an important pillar in my life. There is a fair chance that either my brother or I may
contract schizophrenia, and for these reasons, mental illness will always be a large part of my life. I
say this, not to arouse pity, but simply to make a point that no matter where you stand on mental
illness, chances are that you or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some types of mental illnesses are thought to be categorized into either the nature (ADHD,
Alzheimer's, schizophrenia), or nurture category (anorexia, alcohol abuse), but without further
developments into the workings of the brain, and also in genetics, it is hard to tell for sure.
Services In Toronto there exist numerous organizations and establishments that have been created
over the years to aid and assist those affected by mental illnesses. Some examples of these are
institutes that provide shelter and psychiatric care for patients such as the Center for Addiction and
Mental Heat; organizations that provide those with mental illnesses the oppourtunity to work and
develop a sense of self–value and self–esteem; places like the Scott Mission that provide meals and
shelter for homeless and unemployed, many of whom are living that way due to mental illness (or
who have developed mental illness due to poverty); and Parkdale Recreation center, which gives
people a place to socialize and interact with others who are in similar situations, with whom they
can relate.
These organizations are doing wonderful work in our communities, but there still needs to be more
done. The article talks of organizations that work to give people with mental illnesses a sense of
meaning, but it also talks of people surviving in atrocious, unlivable conditions. It discusses people
living in a fear caused by the

Case Study : Husky Energy Inc.
TSX: Husky Energy Inc. (HSE):  HSE is exposed to risks related to the volatility of commodity
prices, foreign exchange rates and interest rates. Furthermore, it is exposed to financial risks related
to liquidity and credit and contract risks. HSE utilizes numerous derivative instruments to manage
various risks including volatility in commodity prices, foreign exchange rates, and interest rate
exposure. o Commodity Price Risk Management: HSE enters into commodity price contracts in
order to offset fixed or floating prices with market rates to manage exposure to fluctuations in
commodity prices. HSE uses derivative commodity instruments to manage exposure to price
volatility on a portion of its oil and gas production and firm commitments for the purchase or sale of
crude oil and natural gas. Furthermore, HSE's results will also be impacted by a decrease in the price
of crude oil inventory. They have crude oil inventories that are feedstock, held at terminals or part of
the in–process inventories at its refineries and at offshore sites. Additionally, they have natural gas
inventory in storage that could have an impact on earnings based on changes in natural gas prices.
These inventories are subject to a lower of cost or net realizable value test on a monthly basis. o
Foreign Exchange Risk Management: HSE's results are affected by the exchange rates between
various currencies, including the Canadian and U.S. dollar. HSE enters into short–dates foreign

Transition To College
"Please stand, you may now move your tassel from right to left. Years of hard work and dedication
have culminated into this single moment. Congratulations Parkdale class of 2015 you are now high
school graduates!" As our high school career finally comes to a close, the next chapter of our lives
quickly begins with college. Leaving behind our mundane routine and families we are now officially
independent young adults. The transition from high school to college can be scary for the average
incoming freshmen but, students will find that if they prepare themselves for the rigor of college
over the summer they will adjust to the college lifestyle quicker than their peers.
There are many ways incoming freshman can start preparing for college before the arrival of the
first day of class. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many colleges try to find the most suitable way for assisting freshmen students with a successful
transition into college; these often involve inclusive orientation programs, and miscellaneous college
club interest meetings. Pre–College programs are also helpful for incoming students to get a glimpse
of what's to come. Summer enrichment programs are extremely beneficial. These programs help
students with the evolution of college life and the triumphs lying ahead. Every incoming freshman
looks forward to the day they are giving complete freedom, free rein from the chains of their parents
rules. Participating in these summer enrichment programs will get you accustomed to becoming
more independent, getting the real experience of living on campus and learning how to balance
maintaining your school work and social life. College is a very diverse environment with the

Essay about Urban Homelessness in Canada
Definition of Homelessness
Homelessness can simply be defined as the lack of house or shelter. Hulchanski (n.d.) believes that
homelessness is "a great unresolved political and social problem of our time." He defines
homelessness as:
The absence of a place to live (a house or apartment or room – the physical structure) – which
includes the absence of belonging to a place and the people living there (a home, in the
social/psychological sense). [It refers to] situations in which people lack regular and customary
access to adequate and appropriate conventional housing (the physical structures that are designed
and intended to be permanent residential accommodation). A person who has no regular place to live

At risk of houselessness refers to people who are at grave risk of losing their housing.
This group includes "...those facing the risk of losing their shelter either by eviction or the expiry of
the lease, with no other possibility of shelter in view. Prisoners or people living in other institutions
facing their release and having no place to go to, are considered as part of this population" (Springer,
2000).
What Causes Homelessness
Springer notes that before people becomes homeless or houseless, they first experienced inadequate
housing. "Before becoming houseless, many people have been living in "substandard housing"
situations. ...Households with a feeble and perhaps insecure income are likely to live in substandard
housing units and might also experience houselessness because of economic difficulties" (Springer,
2000).
For Jahiel (1992), homelessness happens not only because of people's economic difficulties. Jahiel
(1992) believes that "homelessness does not occur in a social vacuum. He argues that the events that
make people homeless are initiated and controlled by other people whom our society allows to
engage in the various enterprises that contribute to the homelessness of others. The primary purpose
of these enterprises is not to make people homeless but, rather, to achieve

Family Entertainment Center ( Hffec )
Havn Fun Family Entertainment Center (HFFEC) is in the industry of Family Entertainment Centers
also known as FECs. Family entertainment is a very profitable business because families are always
looking for affordable & local facilities to enjoy their time together. We want to help restore the
broken bond between families caused by many outside forces, the busyness of life, and common
distractions that drive them apart. We plan to make fun cool again. Starting out in Beaumont, Texas
we have the advantage of entering into a place where strong family values are important. As a child
growing up in this city I remember there were many places to go to have fun. Places like Putt–Putt
Golf, a skating rink that was off Highway 105 where after the skating stopped at midnight it would
turn into a dance floor where people could dance, mingle, have good clean fun until they closing
time. There were also a small amusement park with children's amusement park, rides and games.
There was also a Go–Kart riding place for families to just ride around the track laughing and
smiling. After moving away from Beaumont, I moved into bigger cities where I saw family fun on a
greater level. Visiting six Flags in Atlanta introduced me to plenty of fun, excitement, and
amusement on a grand scale.
We want to bring that same kind of family oriented fun, love, and excitement to the city of
Beaumont. We will have some of the latest technology in the Family Entertainment Industry
including video gaming

Factors That Influence The High Prevalence Of Hcv Among Pwid
Hepatitis C (HCV) is a blood borne virus that can lead to chronic liver disease and liver failure. In
Canada, nearly 250,000 people have an active Hepatitis C infection (Strike, Leonard, Millson,
Anstice, Berkeley, & Medd, 2006). People who inject drugs (PWID) are disproportionately
represented in this statistic accounting for over 66% of those infected (Strike et al., 2006). Needle
sharing among PWID is oft cited as one of the leading causes of HCV transmission (Strike et al.
2006). The objective of this paper is to explore the factors that influence the high prevalence of
HCV among PWID, as well as, explore successful interventions and how they can be applied to a
community health nursing practice. Firstly, using population statistics I will define the population of
"people who inject drugs". Next, I will provide comprehensive information about the Hepatitis C
virus and modes of transmission. I will also analyze the behavioral, structural and attitudinal factors
that increase the prevalence of HCV among PWIDs. I will then present research on an effective
primary prevention intervention, the needle exchange program. In this section I will also explore
how the development of trust with PWID clients and healthcare staff can increase health care
utilization and reduce needle sharing. I will then discuss two community health nursing standards
(Standards 1 and 3) will guide my work in Parkdale CHC's NEP. Lastly, I will outline how the I will

Analysis Of The Kern 's Article ' Gendered Urbanization '
In relation to this, Kern's article "Gendered Urbanization" illustrates how the factors attracting
affluent women to the new condominiums in Parkdale are often the same instruments of oppression
against the residents; according to her research, an attractive aspect of the new condominiums are
security measures put into place to keep out the impoverished, and therefore dangerous,
communities within Parkdale, such as a 24–hour concierge, double locks on all apartment doors, and
a video monitor at the front desk. Even if "street[s] are very quiet" (Kern 372, III) the design of the
buildings project and imply a criminal, unpredictable nature onto the original residents of Parkdale,
and "enshrines these expectations into the built environment". One resident interviewed stated " my
[apartment] has twenty–four–hour security, and they don't let anybody in without talking to security.
Residents are not allowed to let anybody in, even if you open the doors" (Kern 372, IV). Therefore,
the community lost to the shift in housing rates is not replaced with incoming residents, but rather
the two communities are segregated by classist infrastructure and stereotypes that push the lower
income people to the outskirts of Parkdale. This leads to a huge sense of isolation and unease in the
community of original Parkdale residents because, not only are they threatened and disadvantaged
financially, the implantation on these condominiums are actively keeping them out.
In this same line of

Senior Year Essay

  • 1. Senior Year Essay The first quarter is always the hardest for me, this one especially as I work a lot after school. Being senior year I was looking to take an easy route, but instead I took hard classes to keep challenging myself; looking back now I should have taken the easy route. The biggest struggle has been finding time to work in homework after work, getting my work in on time, and I'm looking to improve my quality of work for the next quarter. Working after school is a good way to make money and I love my job, but it has been a challenge to find time for work. Usually after work I have to drive back to parkdale and do some chores, giving me a small time for homework. I love sleep to much to sacrifice it for work. I am working on my time management and ... • 3. Bayview Yards: Urban Landscape Landscape, when applied to an urban context, no longer refers to prospects of a pastoral scene but rather becomes a mean of connecting objects and spaces around it, as well as accommodating the dynamic processes and events that move through it. These urban landscapes are not only defined by their form, but by the program that surrounds it, as well as its ability to connect with the user through its underlying function. The snow dump known as the Bayview yards, is an example of such urban landscape. Bayview Yards is a 16 acre piece of land that is currently home to a derelict city workshop and a massive area designated for a snow dump. Through the site's history and function a new opportunity comes forward to redefine the landscape, extenuating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The challenge posed here is to bring the viewer closer to the site and experience it's every transformation. My proposed intervention introduces a series of winding pathways dedicated to pedestrian circulation. When walking through, the snow would obscure the view around each turn, revealing a new path. These pathways would be heated, as their main aim is to be functional in the winter, and would connect to the streets that surround it. The paths can be used either pragmatically, as a means to reach another destination. Or as a leisurely function to stroll down a winding path to the riverside. The snow mounds in turn would need to conform to these paths, and would be constricted horizontally. However they would still maintain its irregular shape, rising vertically each time snow is ... For example, one of the last manufacturing businesses in Liberty Village, Canada Bread, left in 2013; previous to its closure, residents expressed irritation due to the factories noise and shipments (Cantugal et al 2009; Flavelle 2010). • 9. How Gentrification Is Changing The Way That People View... Introduction Parkdale is one of the most diverse areas within the city of Toronto. Gentrification is very visible to someone who was walking through this area with the upgrading of condos, shopping and working establishments. While reading the landscape of South Parkdale people are able to clearly see how gentrification is changing the way that people view this area. Gentrification is something that happens everywhere in Toronto but has slowly started taking over South Parkdale. With the slow changing from old to new in South Parkdale it is visible to see how culture and social power can control how things change. Another thing that influences changes in South Parkdale is that people want a more modern look when enjoying a city. Even though gentrification may seem to be a positive aspect there are still many things that are negative to do with gentrification. Gentrification is a touchy subject that has affected South Parkdale in one way or another. Gentrification in Toronto South Parkdale is looked at to be one of the most gentrifying areas within Toronto. Many people are wanting to live closer to the inner city becoming more attractive to those with money to make housing choice's in the downtown core (Slater, 2003). They have taken advantage of the rush of real estate forcing a lot of people to be displaced. Queen's Hotel in South Parkdale has caused a lot of gentrification driven displacement pushing property value up within Parkdale (Truong, 2013). Many long–time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is tied into education needs, food, security; health issues both mental and physical, employment issues, etc. Don't forget the whole picture." ("Boxed In" 2005 pg. 108) Throughout my research I found there is a real cry out for action on providing more affordable house not just locally but throughout the country. There needs to be more funding available to build more gear to income or subsidized housing and all levels of government need to take action. Homelessness has different meanings to different people; someone who has never been homeless might think homelessness is a person who lives on the street, in a tent or in a box. There are many people that are at risk of becoming homeless and some of the risks are; people with mental health issues, women leaving domestic violence, loss of income, addictions and death of person who was helping to financially support them. Families require stabilized housing that is affordable, safe and maintained. If they don't have stabile housing they are moving more often and this can effect the children's education when being moved from school to school. The parents are unable to focus on the other areas of their lives when they are unable to find decent housing. As a result of the housing boom from 2005 to 2008 this had caused prices of houses to increase around 30% within that time and I don't think that employment incomes went up that amount. This has caused hardship in many people's lives that have overextended themselves as well as made themselves house poor. With house prices rising up, it has made it difficult for people to be able to find affordable adequate housing to rent or to purchase. Throughout my placement, I focused mainly on two different children (1 from each school); one child diagnosed with ADHD and the other child diagnosed with ASD. According to Fortune (2017) ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood (Lecture 8, slide 2). A child by default already has high energy levels and constantly needs to be active however according to Fortune (2017), ADHD can be categorised in three types: predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive–impulsive presentation and combined presentation (Lesson 8, slide 3). The child (Jon) with ADHD with whom I worked was diagnosed with predominantly hyperactive impulsivity presentation. Jon had a hard time waiting for activities to start, and once they did, he would not follow the rules instead he would run up on the benches then come on the court to play with another child who was not his partner then he would run back to the instructor to complain he was bored and wanted to do other things (the same behaviors happened when we switched activities). However, I developed an intervention plan for Jon so that he can stay still long enough that he can focus on tasks and be able to participate with the other children. The intervention plan stated that Jon needed to release his energy, and gets bored very quickly, therefore, I came up with a schedule for Jon to follow throughout the ... • 21. Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory Of Moral Development Introduction "The conscience of children is formed by the influences that surround them; their notions of good and evil are a result of the moral atmosphere they breathe" Jean Paul Lawrence Kohlberg (the pioneer of the second major perspective on moral development) proposed that moral reasoning is developed when people pass through three levels which comprise of two stages each as they grow older. He investigated the nature of moral thought by interacting with children, presenting them with a story in which moral dilemmas were faced by the characters in the story. This is what led to the birth of his theory of moral development. This essay therefore seeks to practically apply Kohlberg's thesis to the real world. Kohlberg on Moral Development A professor at Harvard University developed a theory of moral development which incorporated the thinking of a Swiss psychologist named Jean Piaget and an American philosopher named John Dewey (Barger, 2000). The professor went by the name Lawrence Kohlberg. Kohlberg mainly used Piaget's theory of moral development as the foundation to develop these ideas further (Piaget, 1932). He incorporated the method of telling a story that presents a dilemma that Piaget came up with, which would give people options for them to choose what they would feel is 'right' choice (Kohlberg, 1958). Kohlberg (1984) presented the dilemmas as moral dilemmas, and the way an individual reasoned the dilemma would determine the stage (with regards to moral development) in which he would classify them. • 25. Contracts Notes DURESS 1. Generally If one party pressures the contractual consent of another by duress the contract is voidable by that other party (See Also s 52A TPA and s 39 FTA). The common law has long recognised that duress, in the form of coercion of the plaintiff's will through illegitimate pressure or threats to the plaintiff's interests, render a contract voidable (Barton v Armstrong). Traditionally, the common law concept of duress was limited to actual or threatened violence to the person of the contracting party or their family or near relatives constitutes duress (Seear v Cohen; Barton v Armstrong). For the purposes of economic duress, 'unconscionable conduct' refers to the effect of the pressure, upon the quality of the consent of the pressured party, rather than the quality of the conduct of the party against which relief is sought (Westpac Banking Corporation v Cockerill). Economic duress may include a threat to break a contract unless it is renegotiated without any legal justification for doing so (North Ocean Shipping Co Ltd v Hyundai Construction Co Ltd (The Atlantic Baron)). Contract Modification Cases: Cases involving contract modification may be difficult to resolve in practice. It has been suggested that a threat to breach a contract unless it is modified may be distinguished from a warning, request or offer. A threat is a proposal to bring about an unwelcome event unless the recipient of the proposal does something (Atlas Express Ltd v Kafco Ltd). A warning is a prediction that an unwelcome event will happen or that it will happen if circumstances arise – this is different to a threat, as the speaker has no control over the unwelcome consequence (Williams v Roffey Brothers and Nicholls). o For example, subcontractors whose costs rise dramatically midway through the contract sometimes advise the head contractor that unless they are paid more, they will be forced to breach the contract. • 27. Reflective Paper On Moral Responsibility Reflective Paper Regarding Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals Dalia M Al–Rubaye Parkdale High School Abstract This paper is generally about the correlation between moral responsibility and rehabilitation. Moral responsibility was examined in the context of criminals and ordinary people. What brings about a crime, and what impels an individuals to commit an action that he realizes is wrong. Also, the concept of rehabilitation and the way in which it is applied were examined to deliver a better understanding of issues regarding criminals. Examining these concepts was the key used to depict the moral responsibility, that's innate in people, and how it should be considered in rehabilitating criminals. Key words: Morality, self respect, conscience, rehabilitation Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals I am a person with very little knowledge regarding criminology. Luckily, I've acquired some knowledge from being a girl who loves to read about philosophy. Linking between the morals I've learned as a religious person and the theories about the innate format of a human being presented by philosophers, I was able to initiate my thinking process and organize my ideas. My ultimate goal was to get to the point where I'm able to decide whether the society and I are morally responsible of rehabilitating criminals or not. Based on my trivial knowledge, I think that we, as individuals habitating the same community, are morally responsible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question of why individuals commit such horrendous acts have been analyzed and discussed as society grapples to deal with such devastating incidents. The field of Criminology has several theories as to why people commit unlawful actions. With respect to the case of Michael Briere, a murder involving pedophilia, the Rational Choice Theory and the Control Theory offer the best answer to the question of why he committed this extreme deviant felony. The Crime Michael Briere was a thirty–five year old employed software developer who lived alone in a rented house in the Parkdale area of Toronto (Moore, The Globe and ... However, his actions fit with the Rational Choice Theory which states: "Sometimes emotional arousal at the moment of a crime can be acute, therefore would be offenders find themselves out of control, and rational considerations are far less salient" (Encyclopedia.com). Since pornography was made readily available on the internet, Briere had been viewing it to satisfy his sexual desires. His rational brain prevented him from acting on any impulses he may have had to act it out on a victim. He was aware that the possible consequences would cause him too much pain in the form of incarceration and social ostracism. On May 12, 2003, having his arousal peaked by watching pornography, he lost control of his ability to control his actions through rational thinking and grabbed Holly. This was not something he had planned out. He had never seen Holly before and picked her only because she happened to be there. There were also no authority figures around, such as parents, adult neighbours, or potential competent witnesses. In his interrogation, Briere confessed that he would have let Holly go if she started to struggle because he was afraid that this would draw the attention of someone and he would be found out (Greenaway). Once having committed the kidnapping and sexual assault, Briere now turned his attention to avoiding detection and punishment. Briere did not kill Holly because he would experience pleasure from this act; he did it to prevent Holly from becoming a witness to his crime. While the Control Theory holds true with regards to the law and the element of punishment as means of controlling behavior, as clearly this had prevented Briere from ... Some people may manifest no symptoms; at the other end of the spectrum is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, characterized by flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent expectation of danger, constriction (dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis 2001). A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses: Instead of diagnosing and treating "victims," find ways to make the learning environment safer for everyone (Horsman 1997). Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which institutions make personal and structural violence possible and legitimize it (Pearce 1999). Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b; Williamson 2000). What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring extreme situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations, learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in response to trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the victim for "inappropriate" learning or responses, but to underscore the importance of resources and support and the recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs. In addition, the Atherley Furniture Company greatest threat is the decreased market for their "Parkdale" model. The "Parkdale" model has the most time consuming and costly production. With lack of a market for this model, the company stands to continue to lose profits. In conclusion, if the company wishes to continue to operate their chair division profitably as well as efficiently, the above issues need to be addressed and corrected. The students are allowed to choose a four elective, two each semester, out of the four one has to be under technology and one from arts. This is designed so the students can experience a wide range of subject which will help them develop a wide range of skills and knowledge. It also exposes them to different fields and how different subject require have their unique method of thinking and applying knowledge. For each subject the curriculum outlines the objects, content and evaluation (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017). The connect program is designed using a humanistic approach (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2017). Essay In this project the main focus is to investigate the topic of "is there more private traffic than commercial traffic on Good Luck Road due to the land usage along the road? Good Luck Road is a road system that connects both College Park and New Carrollton, further surrounded by institutions and other road systems leading to both DC, Virginia, and other cities. The road is located in Riverdale, MD, a town in Prince Georges County. The road's geographical coordinates are (latitude) 38° 58' N / 76° 54' W (longitude). Due to that so, Good Luck road would have more private because its majority environment is consumer oriented while its minority resides within its connected transportation to business oriented communities. This could be exemplified in the many neighborhoods that surround Good Luck Road, which would influence more stores, markets, and shopping malls that wouldn't be of institutions that cater to a workforce but a specific community of amenities and other sustainable attributes. In that, there would be more private traffic to meet these needs. Another factor that affects the private traffic is the productivity within the workforce in the area because a specific company would require a specific car or if promoted to such height, it can also be known as a car that was paid by the company. But yet, the environments that connect a specific road way to another community affect its traffic as well. In relation to DC, the environment is likely to have an equal occurrence of both kinds of traffic private because of how many big productions and companies that dwell within the business district and then the small institutions that share the neighborhood's direct interest. • 42. Gentrification Of The South Parkdale Neighborhood The gentrification process can be seen through the demographic and physical changes of the South Parkdale neighborhood. Gentrification is "the invasion of working–class areas by the upper– and middle–classes, who upgrade shabby, modest housing into elegant residences, resulting in the displacement of all, or most of the original working–class occupiers". (Lyons, 1996) South Parkdale is a neighborhood in downtown Toronto that faces problems of gentrification. This problem has been ongoing since the nineteen fifty's'. • 44. US Geological Survey Essay Introduction During the years of 1943 and 1944, Karl M. Waage conducted a study for the U.S. Geological Survey. The study was used to determine if the high alumina clays in south–central Colorado could be mined as a possible source of aluminum. High alumina clay, also known as refractory clay, is used for making brick and other materials that are exposed to high temperatures. The refractory clays in the study were contained within formations dating to the cretaceous period (Waage, 1953, p. 2). The layers, called strata, that contain the clay are exposed in the foothills of Pueblo, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, and Custer Counties. In addition, the clays can be found on the surface over much of the plains. The study area of the report focused on the clay mining districts in the counties mentioned above (Waage, 1953, pp. 2–3). The non–refractory clay at Grape creek is located in the upper unit of the Dakota formation where it transitions to the Graneros formation (Waage, 1953, p.79). The Graneros formation is younger than the Dakota formation; therefore, it overrides the formation. The Graneros is at most 200 feet thick and consists mainly of a grey to black shale (Waage, 1953, p. 53). Analysis of the clay of the Glencairn at grape creek determined that the clay contained about 26 percent alumina. Therefore, due to the lower percentage of alumina, the clay was semi–refractory in grade. However, it was also determined that all the accessible clay of the Glencairn member had been exhausted (Waage, 1953, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Housing In Toronto Essay Within the City of Toronto, there is a heavy concentration of social housing, in the form of both houses and buildings, in the space South of St. Clair Avenue, bordered by Jane St. to the West and Woodbine Avenue to the East. Within this space however, rather than being evenly spaced out, social housing developments are clustered within certain neighbourhoods, such as in and around Parkdale and between the neighbourhoods of Moss Park, Regent Park, and the Garden district. Outside of this space, generally speaking, social housing is placed further apart with some exceptional clusters, such as the 18th and (portions of) the 4th community housing units, as well as the Yonge–Eglinton area. In the peripheries of the city, social housing developments are mostly located along major arteries, and there are very few houses, as opposed to buildings. The people living in such developments can be closer to their jobs and commercial activity. • 56. Essay about Urban Homelessness in Canada Definition of Homelessness Homelessness can simply be defined as the lack of house or shelter. Hulchanski (n.d.) believes that homelessness is "a great unresolved political and social problem of our time." He defines homelessness as: The absence of a place to live (a house or apartment or room – the physical structure) – which includes the absence of belonging to a place and the people living there (a home, in the social/psychological sense). [It refers to] situations in which people lack regular and customary access to adequate and appropriate conventional housing (the physical structures that are designed and intended to be permanent residential accommodation). This group includes "...those facing the risk of losing their shelter either by eviction or the expiry of the lease, with no other possibility of shelter in view. What Causes Homelessness Springer notes that before people becomes homeless or houseless, they first experienced inadequate housing. "Before becoming houseless, many people have been living in "substandard housing" situations. ...Households with a feeble and perhaps insecure income are likely to live in substandard housing units and might also experience houselessness because of economic difficulties" (Springer, 2000). For Jahiel (1992), homelessness happens not only because of people's economic difficulties. Jahiel (1992) believes that "homelessness does not occur in a social vacuum. Family entertainment is a very profitable business because families are always looking for affordable & local facilities to enjoy their time together. We want to help restore the broken bond between families caused by many outside forces, the busyness of life, and common distractions that drive them apart. We plan to make fun cool again. Starting out in Beaumont, Texas we have the advantage of entering into a place where strong family values are important. As a child growing up in this city I remember there were many places to go to have fun. Places like Putt–Putt Golf, a skating rink that was off Highway 105 where after the skating stopped at midnight it would turn into a dance floor where people could dance, mingle, have good clean fun until they closing time. There were also a small amusement park with children's amusement park, rides and games. There was also a Go–Kart riding place for families to just ride around the track laughing and smiling. • 60. Factors That Influence The High Prevalence Of Hcv Among Pwid Hepatitis C (HCV) is a blood borne virus that can lead to chronic liver disease and liver failure. In Canada, nearly 250,000 people have an active Hepatitis C infection (Strike, Leonard, Millson, Anstice, Berkeley, & Medd, 2006). People who inject drugs (PWID) are disproportionately represented in this statistic accounting for over 66% of those infected (Strike et al., 2006). Needle sharing among PWID is oft cited as one of the leading causes of HCV transmission (Strike et al. 2006). The objective of this paper is to explore the factors that influence the high prevalence of HCV among PWID, as well as, explore successful interventions and how they can be applied to a community health nursing practice. Firstly, using population statistics I will define the population of "people who inject drugs". Next, I will provide comprehensive information about the Hepatitis C virus and modes of transmission. I will also analyze the behavioral, structural and attitudinal factors that increase the prevalence of HCV among PWIDs. I will then present research on an effective primary prevention intervention, the needle exchange program. In this section I will also explore how the development of trust with PWID clients and healthcare staff can increase health care utilization and reduce needle sharing. I will then discuss two community health nursing standards (Standards 1 and 3) will guide my work in Parkdale CHC's NEP. Lastly, I will outline how the I will apply my knowledge of HCV ... • 65. Analysis Of The Kern 's Article ' Gendered Urbanization ' In relation to this, Kern's article "Gendered Urbanization" illustrates how the factors attracting affluent women to the new condominiums in Parkdale are often the same instruments of oppression against the residents; according to her research, an attractive aspect of the new condominiums are security measures put into place to keep out the impoverished, and therefore dangerous, communities within Parkdale, such as a 24–hour concierge, double locks on all apartment doors, and a video monitor at the front desk. Even if "street[s] are very quiet" (Kern 372, III) the design of the buildings project and imply a criminal, unpredictable nature onto the original residents of Parkdale, and "enshrines these expectations into the built environment". One resident interviewed stated " my [apartment] has twenty–four–hour security, and they don't let anybody in without talking to security. Residents are not allowed to let anybody in, even if you open the doors" (Kern 372, IV). Therefore, the community lost to the shift in housing rates is not replaced with incoming residents, but rather the two communities are segregated by classist infrastructure and stereotypes that push the lower income people to the outskirts of Parkdale. This leads to a huge sense of isolation and unease in the community of original Parkdale residents because, not only are they threatened and disadvantaged financially, the implantation on these condominiums are actively keeping them out.
