Kentucky's Senate Bill 1 from 2009 requires updating the state's education standards to focus on preparing students for college, careers, and global competitiveness. The bill mandates that standards be shorter, clearer goals for what students should learn. It also requires that professional development for teachers include instructional uses of technology, recognizing that today's students are more technology-savvy. One school noted upgrading its computer lab significantly increased technology use in order to effectively teach modern students.
