HORROR AUDIENCES
Why do some people enjoy watching Horror movies?

Although all Horror movies are frightening and or shocking there are 3 subgenres within the
whole genre itself. They are;
Slasher
Paranormal
Psychological
Most people that choose to watch Horror movies are because they contain the ‘Thrill Factor’.
Many people like this as it gives them a much more exciting and blood rushing experience as
appose to another genre such as a romance which focuses upon the emotions of the consumer, or
a comedy which is aimed to make their consumers laugh. These are all very different to each
other and more so to a Horror movie. Horror movies are said to be movies that the audience
always remember due to their high adrenaline rush.
Who are the Target audiences for Horror movies?
Horror films are mainly directed at those in the age range of 15-24. They are also said to be
mostly aimed at men as they are said to be more likely to be able to interact with the characters
on screen, although women can also interact with those on screen too but it is believed they
would tend to react differently. However more recent studies have shown that the majority of the
audience in Horror movies are women.

Although The Exorcist (1973) is an old film and they would
have intended a different target audience to what
audience they have in today’s society it is very similar
to my film idea. This is due to the fact that they are
both based around the persona being possessed with
                  the sematic field of Religion.
