Analysis Of Marcus Borg s The Bible
Recently I have been overwhelmed by the various conflicting views on the interpretation the
bible. Many people say that to be a Christian you must follow and believe the bible verbatim.
However, I realize that it is nearly impossible to do that because of the context in which it was
written. Marcus Borg s has successfully provided a logical way to read the bible, with still being
able to respect and incorporate older Christian traditions, but also focusing and taking into
consideration the modernized world and reality in which we read the bible today. Hence the
essential subtitle, Taking The Bible Seriously But not Literally. I salute Borg s for taking on the
challenge of addressing a burning issue that separates two distinct group of... Show more content on

Therefore, the way we see affects the way we read. As we enter the twenty first century, we need
a new set of lenses through which to read the Bible. The older set, ground and polished by
modernity, no longer works for millions of people. These lenses need to be replaced. The older
way of seeing and reading the Bible, has made the Bible incredible and irrelevant for vast
numbers of people... The need for new lenses thus exists within the church itself. I fully agree
with this assertion formed by Borg. The new and constantly evolving ways of science,
technology, and analytical thinking, have led many people to reject the teachings of Bible. To
look at the Bible through the eyes of a non Christian, it would be easy to make rational
altercations against its accuracy. Borg included the counterargument that is made by many
conservative evangelical Christians, which is, God said it, I believe it, and that settles it. As if
this blunt answer to the textual variants, could possibly hold any value to a non believer. Similar
to Borg, I believe that it is necessary to address the context and differences of the time period that
the Bible was written in, and rather than completely denying the scientifically advanced ways of
todays society, incorporate it as a prompt to a better understanding of the scripture. Another
analogy used by Borg in the first section of his book; came from the traditions of Buddhism, where
the teachings of Buddha were seen as a finger pointing to

The Chosen Event
The Chosen Event Although Meteorology has a variety of interesting subjects, there is one specific
event that I would like to focus on for analysis, lightning. Lightning does not receive as much
attention because it doesn t cause as much destruction as hail, tornado, or hurricane. However, it is
just as deadly. Lightning is intense, short, and a massive spark of electricity that is usually found in
a thunderstorm. For these reasons, I would like to focus on this event at two locations. One is the
lightning capital of the United States, Florida, and the other location is in Venezuela, which is
known as the everlasting storm. I would like to compare how often stores occur in these areas, how
many lightning strikes occur in each area on average

Modern Day Architecture Is Affected By Gothic Cathedrals
Today, many people probably would not believe someone if he or she told them the term gothic
had ever related to Christianity in any way, but, believe it or not, gothic was the term applied to a
certain type of architecture that had everything to do with Christianity. From the style of a gothic
cathedral to the art showcased inside a gothic cathedral, many Christians, poor and rich, sought
these buildings to bring them one step closer to God and saw these cathedrals as spiritual realms to
heaven. In this paper, it will soon be discovered how many things influenced gothic architecture,
what advancements had been made to create gothic architecture, and even how modern day
architecture is influenced by gothic cathedrals. By examining these three... Show more content on

Romanesque architecture was more of an enclosed, brick building, as opposed to the open, light
filled cathedrals seen in gothic architecture. An essay written by Valerie Spanswick entitled
Gothic Architecture: an Introduction, explains most of the basics of both romanesque and gothic
architecture. The most obvious difference between the two types of architecture is the arches;
while romanesque settles for a low, rounded arch that hardly supports itself, gothic aims for a
pointed arch that will help support itself and, therefore, relieve the stress on other parts of the
building. Moreover, romanesque architecture also sported massive thick columns to make up for
supporting extra weight the arches could not, while gothic has slender columns, due to the
amount of weight the pointed arch can support. Also, stated in Gothic Art and Architecture,
flying buttresses, which are buttresses slanting from a separate pier, were inserted in gothic
cathedrals and assisted on relieving even more stress and weight. These buttresses assisted in
not only relieving weight but also leaving more room for windows to be placed, incorporating
Suger s ideas for light. These windows were often stained glass and, just like the art, portrayed
some biblical story. When hit at the right angle, the glass would project otherworldly light that
made the churches appear as a bridge between a spiritual and physical realm (cite). In addition,
glass was not the only thing that made these churches spectacular. Gemstones and gold were
among the many things that assisted in making people feel as if they were in another realm. Suger
himself even wrote, ...the loveliness of the many colored gems has called me away from external
cares...and that, by the grace of God, I can be transported from this inferior to that higher world ,
making it his mission to have anyone that entered the church

Social Deviance And Social Deviance
Social deviance is considered a broad term, it tends to describe actions or behaviors that violate
society s norms. Norms, in a simple context, are rules by, which members of society are expected
to conform to. When it comes to discussing the term deviance, it tends to mean a person s failure
to conform to unspoken rules established by society. Social deviance can have many forms and
interpretations. Deviant acts are primarily relative to the setting because deviance in one place
could be considered non deviance in another place. Theft, violence, murder, or any kind of
criminal behavior, can be considered either deviant or non deviant, depending on the context. It
s coming up to countries, establishments, and governing bodies to determine, which acts are and
aren t acceptable. An example, could be murdering someone for drugs is not acceptable, but
murdering someone in an act of self defense is. It can be concluded, all acts of deviance are
subjected to review and accepted on the condition that it fits what society holds acceptable. Acts
of deviance can result in some very positive outcomes.(Why is this here?) Everyone has
unconsciously committed an act of deviance, in addition, have conformed to society s norms, as
well. A un establish rule in society is to always pay for one s food prior to consumption.
However, I do not always conform to this social norm. For example, when I go grocery shopping I
tend to consume food that has not been purchased, yet, while walking

Taylor Swift Supremacy
Is Taylor Swift subtly supporting white supremacy through her music? One blogger certainly
thinks so and has penned a blog post about Taylor s silence in the wake of white nationalists and
alt right members co opting lyrics in her song. Taylor Swift threatened to sue the author of the
post for defamation and was quickly blasted by the ACLU for bullying, saying the racist
allegations are protected free speech. A potential court battle is brewing between Taylor Swift and
the American Civil Liberties Union. The nonpartisan nonprofit organization notified Taylor s
attorneys that it stands by a California based blogger who accused the Bad Blood singer of
clandestinely giving a nod to the alt right movement and enabling its racist agenda. The... Show

Swift s legal team said the accusations are provably false and defamatory and demanded that the
PopFront blog take down the inflammatory story or legal action will follow. The ACLU chimed
in on the brewing court battle. Risher s team notified Taylor s lawyers that neither the blogger
nor the site owner is under obligation to retract the post and have no legal requirement to do so.
The blog post is a mix of core political speech and critical commentary; it discusses current
politics in this country, the recent rise of white supremacy, and the fact that some white
supremacists have apparently embraced Ms. Swift, along with a critical interpretation of some of
Ms. Swift s music, lyrics, and videos. Criticism is never pleasant, but a celebrity has to shake it
off, even if the critique may damage her reputation, not even in your wildest dreams could Swift s
claims constitute defamation. Herning decried Taylor s actions, saying the press should not
succumb to bully tactics from rich celebrities and well compensated attorneys retained to fight their
battles against diminutive figures. These scare tactics may have worked for Taylor in the past, but I

The Misrepresentation Of Minorities For The Mainstream...
The misrepresentation of minorities for the sake of the mainstream film industry has existed since
the foundation of the Hollywood industry. While the industry favors the white male as the ideal for
audiences to cheer towards victory, those who once played both racist and stereotypical characters
are now taking the opportunity to speak out against the mainstreamideal. Out of the several minority
groups working to change the definition of mainstream media to favor minorities, ... the recent
expansion of Asian American roles on television has paradoxically ushered in a new generation of
actors with just enough star power and job security to speak more freely about Hollywood s larger
failures (Hess). Unfortunately, the mainstream film industry seems to continually work against the
sense of positioning minorities into leading roles, or much of any role in the big blockbusters
Hollywood, and other mainstream productions, bank upon each year. The Asian male has long been
the victim of racism, misrepresentation, and emasculation by the mainstream, and it continues to
exist. Although, films are coming out, mostly from independent filmmakers, that counteract the
racist Hollywood foundation, even if it s in a very small degree. One film to have been held up as
an opposition to this victimization of the mainstream film industry, Better Luck Tomorrow, directed
by Justin Lin. By using an all Asian cast of young men to tell a coming of age story, Better Luck
Tomorrow is praised for

Analysis Of The Great Cat Massacre
Darnton does a fantastic job about inviting the reader into to the text. This can best be described a
tour of Darton s mind and thoughts with no particular bias. Through further analysis of Darton s
The Great Cat Massacre reveals that not all subjects in the seventeenth and eighteenth century
benefited from the enlightenment. These essays and short stories tell us that the peasants,
described in Peasants Tell Tales have violent, nasty, and brutal outlooks on life based on their
harsh upbringing and the stories they told and passed down. Similarly, the workers in Workers

For instance, the story of Little Red Riding Hood doesn t end in a typical Disney style with Little
Red taught her lesson to not talk to strangers. Rather the story begins with a strip tease and
concludes with Little Red in conversation with her Grandmother in bed saying, Oh grandmother,
what big teeth you have! The wolf (disguised as the grandmother) then says, It s for eating you
better, my dear (Darnton 10). Then he eats her! How could this awful graphic content get into a
children s story? Darnton s ideas were simple, History looked immobile at the village level,
because seigneurialism and the substance economy kept villagers bent over the soil, and
primitive techniques of farming gave them no opportunity to unbend (Darnton 25). With this,
life as a peasant was miserable so miserable that, In Crulai, Normandy 236 of every 1000 babies
died before their first birthday during the seventeenth century (Darnton 27). Death played a
gigantic role in a peasants life so much that it contaminated their stories, as well, gearing the
peasants towards survival as their main goal and or being the boss of other peasants. The tale of
Puss n Boots can support that claim, the version most kids know is a classic man s best friend tale
about a cat/fox helping the owner revamp his life and eventually become rich once again. Now
passed down through peasants the story speaks of the cat as a fairy (La Renarde) that solves
riddles and puzzles which

Left Ventricular Assist Device Essay
Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVADs) has evolved into long term use as bridge to transplant
and as destination therapy for those with severe end stage heart failure. However, treatment and
readmission rates of Heart Failure (HF) and LVAD patients is a serious matter to hospitals
because the reduce reimbursement rates that hospitals receiving if these patients are re admitted

However, 1st year survival in LVAD patient is higher than 85%. Unfortunately, 69.8% of the LVAD
patients get readmitted to hospital in first 6 months after the device implantation (Topkara et al.,
2010). LVAD patients live with this device as the last option unless they get new hearts
(Rowland et al., 2012). If the device malfunctions or stop their lives can end immediately
(Rowland et al., 2012). Therefore, the focus has to be on their follow up cares after they get
discharged from the hospital (Banbury et al., 2003). Literature reviews as well as hands on
experience support that APN directed care post discharge were able to reduce hospital
readmissions and increase the quality of life of HF patients (Takeda et al., 2012). The APN,
evidence based team, supports the LVAD patients by phone calls, home visits, frequent education
and 24 hour emergency hotline (Polisena et al., 2010). This type of care has been seen at many
facilities, including Hackensack University Medical center where I have encountered both pre and
post operative LVAD patients which have a extraordinary APN driven evidence base practice
approach to these patients.
Significance of the Problem

(Rowland et al., 2012). Also, 69.8% of the LVAD patients get readmitted to

Mad Cow Disease Chapter Summary
Maxime Schwartz s novel, How the Cows Turned Mad: Unlocking the Mysteries of Mad Cow

job in describing each scenario to the point in which many people can understand. Even with the

This was my favorite due to the fact that it allowed for a connection between each story as well
as showed a possible progression of the disease. Secondly, it showed many different ways an
animal can get affected by this disease. This allowed for a broader scope of understanding as it
showed that there was more than one symptom, when it come to this disease. I also really
enjoyed the progression of book as it when chronologically, when it came to the instances. This
allowed for a cohesive understanding of the material as well as a more collective though when it
came to the disease itself. One thing I did not enjoy about this book was the combination of
French words. I understand that it is a translated novel from french, but there were some parts in
which, I could not understand due to some of the symptoms were in french. All in all, the novel
was quite intriguing as it caught my attention and edged me to read more. I enjoyed the
integration of the progressive stories that lead to the culmination of his research. By visually
allowing the reader to explore the disease I feel that it would help to audience to become more
engrossed in the progression of the disease over time. The general tone of the book is somber,
which is to be expected when dealing with the neurological infections being discussed, but the final

Brain Tumors
Brain tumors are devastating depending on their malignancy and also their propensity to cause
neurological deficits which may cause permanent disability. Malignant brain tumors can occur at all
ages [1 2] and are associated with poor prognosis. Surgery forms the mainstay of treatment for brain
tumors [2 5]. It is well known that significant tumordecompression is associated with a relatively
favourable prognosis [6 10]. An important challenge in braintumor surgery is the accurate
recognition of the tumor existence and positioning [11]. The tumor positioning has an unique
importance in brain tumorsurgery. Tumors in the brain are surrounded by normal brain tissue. The
lesions which are sited within the substance of the brain are called intra axial tumors. Those in
close proximity of the brain, but displace brain tissue are called extra axial tumors. Even extra axial
tumors may invade brain tissue. In both cases, the functioning brain tissue surrounds the tumor.
Various preoperative and intraoperative techniques have been utilized in neurosurgery for detection

The exploding growth of social technologies has drastically altered the way people communicate.
As a result, the utilization of social technologies to move a business forward has become
widespread. Software tools such as blogs and wikis and social network platforms like Facebook and
Twitter and other communication technologies are helping to advance businesses. These new

Knowledge sharing is of vital importance for the success of organizations. So in order to
successfully share both types of knowledge, tacit knowledge must be articulated. With the
advantage of Web 2.0technologies, organizations are able to achieve this objective.
The use of Web 2.0 technologies in organizations has introduced innovative ways of
collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing. The result of which is a more productive

wave of Internet technologies that allows users to do more than just access information online.
(Gardner, n.d.) Blogs, wikis and social media technologies are examples of the Web 2.0
applications that businesses can use. These social technologies deliver benefits by multiplying the

Hot Coffee, By Susan Saladoff
Homework Assignment I: Hot Coffee The movie, Hot Coffee , is a documentary film that was
created by Susan Saladoff in 2011 that analyzes the impact of the tort reform on the United States
judicial system. The title and the basis of the film is derived from the Liebeck v. McDonald s
restaurants lawsuit where Liebeck had burned herself after spilling hot coffee purchased from
McDonald s into her lap. The film features four different suits that may involve the tort reform. This
film included many comments from politicians and celebrities about the case. There were also
several myths and misconceptions on how Liebeck had spilled the coffee and how severe the
burns were to her. One of the myths was that many people thought she was driving when she
spilled the coffee on herself and that she suffered only minor burns, while in truth she suffered
severe burns and needed surgery. This case is portrayed in the film as being used and misused to
describe in conjunction with tort reform efforts. The film explained how corporations have spent
millions of dollars deforming tort cases in order to promote tort reform. So in the film Hot Coffee
it uses the case, Liebeck v. McDonalds, as an example of large corporations trying to promote the
tort reform, in which has many advantages and disadvantages to the United States judicial system.
The tort reform is often proposed by the Republican Party in which it changes the civil judicial

As stress accumulates, depressive moods and thoughts develop day after day which creates an
unhealthy atmosphere for anyone. This could lead to negative thoughts and unproductivity of any
task at hand. However, one of the solutions discovered to help with the depressing thoughts and
moods was through dreaming at night. According a study performed by Rosalind Cartwright, the
study showed that 72% of the subjects had less depression after dreaming (Chatterjee). How was
this possible? There was a decreased development of depression while moods changed throughout
the night. This could be explained by experiencing a pleasant dream which causes a release of
pleasure neurotransmitters such as serotonin or dopamine. Pleasant dreams could be anything from
superpowers related to even sexual. Another interesting thing about dreams, it can help someone
find a problem that is bothering them through nightmares or dream adventures. Therefore, an
explication of a dream can lead to understanding personality dynamics and promote behavioral
change (Merced 183). Dreams could point out personality dynamics that need changing following
a traumatic experience. People s personality changes with every experience that occurs to them;
therefore, it is possible to be happy one day then sad another day. Dreams can lead the dreamer to

Persuasive Speech On Killer Whales
Persuasive writing: Keeping Killer whales in Captivity.
There is no debate that one of the most attractive, human friendly and intelligent beauties in nature
is the killer whale, more commonly known as the orca. The orca is in the dolphin family, but
capable of learning human traits and freely interacting with them without causing any harm. Their
curious behavior and acrobatic moves make us enjoy their company through watching and spending
time in the waters with them. However, the gradual decline in the population of the orca is a
worrying trend that sparks another kind of debate. Our interactions with killer whales is endangering
their survival in the ecosystem, which should not be the case (BioExpedition 1). Our interaction

However it is critical to understand that when they are conserved in captivity, we prevent them
from getting their main biological needs from the ocean as a natural habitat. With their wide
food spectrums, orcas hunt for turtles, sea lions, crabs, seals and many other food varieties
depending on their ecotypes. This makes them travel over large regions in the ocean in search
of the same. Just as human beings are top of the food chain with regards terrestrial animals, so
are orcas in the oceans. It is therefore important to raise our voices against this practice to avoid
the risk of classifying them as endangered species. Even though the whales gave me so much in
my life and my career (BioExpedition 1), he grew to believe that the whales physical and
emotional well being was incompatible with captivity. Confined to unnatural social groups for the
convenience of their owners, bored and restless, forced to perform tricks for food that trainers
withheld as punishment, they occasionally slipped, he writes, into the dark side (Adler 2).

Analysis Of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince
Matt Hodel
Dante
Ms. Harlow
7 May 2012
Perversions of Hell in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince J. K. Rowling, along with many
other modern fantasy authors, owes a great deal to Dante in the formulation of her best selling
series. Though the subject matter she undertakes a magical world of witchcraft and wizardry
would have, in Dante s eyes, landed her in the eighth circle of the Inferno, fourth pouch, Rowling
would arguably have been unable to create the magical universe of Harry Potter without immense
inspiration from The Divine Comedy. In an overly simplistic picture, Voldemort might be thought of
as a representation of Satan, arrogantly believing that he has the power to conquer the whole
wizarding community, let alone the entire world, with his magical faculties. Indeed, similar to
Satan, Voldemort exemplifies the damning qualities of greed, wrath, violence, deceit, and betrayal
every step of the way on his path to power.
Nevertheless, Rowling s most visible debts to Dante appear in the aura given off by the darker
scenes of her novels. Such chapters evoke a feeling unquestionably reminiscent of The Inferno to
anyone familiar with Dante s work. Specifically, near the end of the sixth installment of the series
is a chapter in which Dumbledore, a Virgilfigure, takes Harry, the Dante to Dumbledore s Virgil,
on an attempt to destroy the first of seven horcruxes. The chapter alludes to Canto III of The
Inferno through a series of direct contrasts with

Stereotypes And Perception Of A Worldview
Introduction In our first class we discussed that a worldview acts as a filter through which we
understand and perceive phenomena (Koltko Rivera, 8). This discussion was very important, as
understanding the meaning of the term worldviews laid the foundation on which the following
classes could be built upon. We don t see things as they are, we see them as we are (Koltko
Rivera, 3) was the statement that stood out most for me, it explained how we are each shaped
by our own personal experiences and therefore we each have our own unique way of viewing the
world. Stereotypes play a huge part in our worldview, they aren t necessarily a bad thing but they
aren t exactly good either. Stereotypes are a widely believed, oversimplified idea or belief of a
particular type of person, people or thing (Online Oxford dictionary). As people living in South
Africa, we come into contact with people from other cultures on a daily basis, so it is of vital
importance that we are able to identify stereotypes as stereotypes, and challenge and change them
if the need be. I think worldviews are an amazing thing, as much as it can be a conflict causing
issue, it also allows us to gain knowledge and helps us understand and empathize with other
people. Engaging with different people with different worldviews allow us to change the filters
through which we view phenomena and see them in a new, different light. Gender Worldviews
Before this class, I had considered feminism to be a bad thing.

Analysis Of The Play The Red And Brown Water Essay
Experience Essay About a month ago, my friend invited me to a play on campus that he was
going to be staring in. The play was titled, In the Red and Brown Water, and it was located at the
Annex theatre. I was curious to know what the play was about so that I can get an idea of what to
expect. He mentioned that it is a detailed representation of black culture in the projects of
Louisiana. Being that I am an African Americanmale who was raised in a predominately white
community, my interest in going to this play suddenly grew. The only knowledge I have about
the projects is through media and knowing the general stereotypes of an inner city area. When I
attended the play, I had a fantastic learning experience, and noticed several connections to the
texts that we study in the course. To begin with, the scenery of the play wasn t traditional by any
means. Rather than this being a common stage with a large crowd, this was a black box theatre
play. Basically, the stage was in the middle of the room and the audience surrounded the
performers. The room was about the size of an average high school classroom, which made the
play more personal. In fact, the actors would interact with the crowd at times throughout the play.
Next, when I first entered the room, I sensed a smooth vibe from the way the room looked. It was
very dim and the director played songs by black artist from our generation to serenade the audience
with black culture. At this moment, I began to feel very

Since the sport of mixed martial arts was first introduced to the United States in 1993, it has been
the subject of much heated political debate. The opponents of mixed martial arts have leveled
numerous arguments against the sport, and under the leadership of Arizona Senator John McCain,
they even succeeded in forcing the sport from national pay per view carriers, and convinced
several states to ban the sport (Silverman). The four year forced hiatus that the sport experienced
from 1997 until 2001 was a direct result of the political onslaught headed by Senator John McCain

The Impact Of Online Communities On Physical Social...
Abstract
Nowadays, people spend much time in online communities to network with virtual friends and play
role plays. They provide an advantage for people with special needs who cannot leave the house,
because they benefit from the accessibility of the internet. Moreover, they help people who often
move to stay in touch with their friends. Nevertheless, spending too much time in online
communities leads to drawbacks in the development of the user s personality. More energy is
dedicated to the virtual life than to real life and people lose track of their personalities while busy
building online ones. Also, frequent users of online communities have difficulties beginning
meaningful real life relationships. Virtual friendships are shallow... Show more content on

People meet online to run blogs, meaning online diaries, share information and photos, exchange
Youtube videos or unionize in a political, cultural, social and economic way (Das Internet als
soziales Erlebnis, 2007). But not only can real life people get together and share common interests,
they can also abandon their individual personalities and become somebody else: Second Life, a
virtual world, allows their members to create an avatar of their choice and guide it through its world
with virtual people, entertainment, opportunities and semi virtual marketplaces (Second Life,
2008). According to Computer Industry Almanac Inc. (2007), more than 1.2 billion people use the
internet worldwide and the largest online community has over 200 million members. Nevertheless,
the effect on physical relationships must be investigated. Although online communities provide
social advantages for certain groups of people, they cannot replace real life relationships due to
their limitation of peoples abilities of developing their own personalities and the loss of the sense of
profound interpersonal relationships.
Discussion
Online communities provide social advantages for two groups of people. First of all, persons with
certain handicaps that limit their mobility can benefit from the easy handling and accessibility of
the internet. They get the chance to interact with other people disregarding their special needs. For
example, someone who cannot leave their house due to an illness is

Effects Of The Great Plains Region
Introduction
During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and
agriculture of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl,
was caused by severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper
understanding of Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme
dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching
the east coast.
Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the
Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was
experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be
much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their
paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In
their paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that
have been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and
temperature in the Great Plains area. The models and methods discussed include the Palmer
Drought Severity Index, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, and the Community Climate
System Model.
In this paper, I will describe in fuller detail the three models discussed in the paper by Hoerling et al

Miniature Circuit Breakers are electromechanical devices which protect an electrical circuit from

Analysis of The Hunger Artist by Kafka
Hunger is a term that is often defined as the physical feeling for the need to eat. However, the
Hunger Artist in Kafka s A Hunger Artist places a different, more complex meaning to this word,
making the Hunger Artist s name rather ironic. The hunger of the Hunger Artist is not for food. As
described at the end of the essay, the Hunger Artist states that he was in fact never hungry, he just
never found anything that he liked. So then, what does this man s hunger truly mean? What drives
the Hunger Artist to fast for so long, if he is truly not hungry? The Hunger Artist salivates not for
the food which he is teased with, nor does he even sneak food when he alone. The Hunger Artist

Instead, he would show off for the guards that were supposed to watch him, to make sure he
never ate a single thing, ?He was quite prepared to spend the whole night entirely without sleep
with such watchmen; he was prepared to swap jokes with them, to tell them stories about his
nomadic life and listen to their stories in turn, anything just to keep them awake to be able to
show them again and again that he had nothing to eat in his cage, and that he was fasting like no
one of them could fast.? (Kafka, 256). The Hunger artist was addicted to fame, and made every
attempt to show off his skill.
It seems ironic, however, that when his fans were near him, he would show no effort to interact
with the crowd. No stories, jokes, or anything of the like with which shared with the watchmen.
Instead, he seemed to take the fans for granted, almost treating the fans as if they were weak and
unimportant, ? occasionally even stretching his arm through the bars to let them feel how skinny he
was, but then again withdrawing completely to himself, paying attention to no one.? (Kafka, 256)
The Hunger Artist assumes that the crowd will always be there, witnessing and admiring his
skills, constantly wondering, ?How does he do it?? So, as time goes on, the hunger artist becomes
more and more expecting of his crowd, hungering more and more for the fame and love that his
fans seemed to give. Unfortunately, every star, no

The Use of Discourse Markers
So um, I mean yeah I was wondering if like, you had any job openings for this summer? This was
the way a potential employee approached my dad, asking if he had a position for them to work
this summer. Filler words such as um and like are used very commonly throughout conversations
between individuals in this day and age, many individuals not even realizing they are using them.
But why do we use discourse markers? And do they make people seem unprofessional or
uneducated to potential employers? One view of the use of discourse markers comes from Jean
E. Fox Tree, a cognitive psychologist who works at The University of California Santa Cruz. Her

The women also typically thought they used less filler words than the men. This was surprising,
as it was not expected that there would be a difference in how many filler words they thought
they used. While this data may not be representative for men and women of all ages, it does give a
good idea of how college students differ using discourse markers.
In the second part of my experiment, the participants were told the experiment was actually
about the use of filler words, and then they were asked to answer the question Can you describe
the moment you said goodbye to your parents before they left you at college? . When the
participants concentrated on not using discourse makers, the number of times they used them
went down drastically. Two out of the three women and all three men told the whole story
without using a single filler word or discourse marker. But while they were not using these words,
there were awkward silences in which the participant would think about what to say next. This
was very interesting, as it may explain another reason why we use discourse markers and filler
words. We want to avoid these awkward silences in which neither person is saying anything, so we
use these words and phrases to cease the

the child begins to show disobedient behavior. Disobedient behavior can constitute excessive noise,

Children in third world countries are prospering immensely with the introduction of technology in
their culture by teaching the young children the importance of change, liveliness and

groundbreaking change implemented by technology in these poorer societies. Charles Kenny,
senior fellow at the Center for Global Development stated, This technology wasn t developed as

natural adopters of new technologies and certainly the potential for technology and digital

Kenny later says that it is vital the young children of the world are encountered with the
exposure of technology because they are the best group who can work on projects to make a

advancement and often blame it for the poor social structure in society. Kenny and the article
make a very valid and reasonable point because technology is really the gateway to change for the

different countries. Although, the article does not describe the negative implications technology
has on a younger demographic when it comes to the issue of pedophilia and cyber safety. The

Mind In Hegel s Decade Of The Brain
Our modern understanding of the human mind is much different than it was in the 17th to 19th
century, all the results from scientific research on brain studies during the Decade of the Brain.
Before, Mind was viewed as a real object but now we realize that people process information
somewhere, someplace in the brain. It was a creator of ideas with the personality. Today we realize
that it is what the rain does, an expression of neural networks processing information. And indeed
computer programs are being built to emulate that process. It is not an ethereal entity that can create
memories nor complete pictures on a scratchpad but along neural fibers that reconstruct outlines of
pictures. There are various states of consciousness and using language we hypothesize ideas, which
are then checked out on the opposite side of the brain against reality. And sometimes the physiology
falters and Mindgoes berserk. But what that describes is a natural process with information
provided from the senses. It is not in communication with higher beings. It is simply engaged in
working out problems. Mind is thus a process and in fact dialectics is the very process that
engages Mind. Self recognition that Hegel had in his mind was looking for what was outside the...

being born as energy. Eventually what happens instead is that as the system cools into matter, it
develops particles that have charge and here is a substance that recognizes itself and stays away
from itself while pulling in particles of opposite charge. These can be thought of as the underlying
principle for self recognition. And self awareness mechanism that evolve into more sophisticated

The Debate Over Vaccinations for Adults and Children Essay
A very controversial issue these days is whether or not to receive immunizations. I am a young
mother and I tend to follow my mothers and doctors advice when it comes to mine and my
children s health, I feel as though my doctor has the best advice on how I can keep us all happy
and healthy, however this is not the case for everyone. Many questions have arisen about
immunizations and there are quite a few people who are either hesitant to or will not have
themselves and their children immunized.
I am a person who believes that children and adults should be immunized, by not receiving
vaccinations it is possible to be putting the public at risk for more diseases. It should not matter
what the parents philosophical or religious views are. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This enables our bodies to develop the antibodies to fight off the disease without having to get sick
first.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most childhood vaccines are 90 99% effective
in preventing disease. Under some circumstances the children that have been vaccinated do get the
disease; they usually have milder symptoms with less serious complications than a child who has
not had the same vaccination. This proves that there are more risks with not being vaccinated than
being vaccinated.
Back in 2005 there was an outbreak of rotavirus gastroenteritis in Nicaragua, this caused high
mortality and hospitalization. There was a case study done to see if the children who had passed
away had access to routine immunizations, in which the children should have been given the
rotavirus vaccination. The results of this study showed that with a rotavirus vaccine the seasonal
outbreaks could be diminished.
Rotavirus gastroenteritis is not the only disease that has been an issue. Polio paralyzed about
37,000 and killed about 1,700 every year in the 1950 s in the United States. About 15,000 people
died each year from diphtheria before there was a vaccine, and up to 70,000 children a year were
hospitalized for rotavirus.
There are also financial reasons that children should receive their vaccinations. According to a
statistic from the Centers for

Causes Of Post-Polio Syndrome
Post Polio syndrome is a musculoskeletal problem which occurs after an individual has had polio
(LaRocco, 2011). There are about 440, 00 people that survived polio (LaRocco, 2011). It is
estimated that between 15% and 80% of people with polio will have post polio syndrome. Post
polio syndrome generally occurs 15 years after the polio virus has subsided (LaRocco, 2011). The
symptoms are muscleweakness, atrophy, pain, fatigue, and cold sensitivity. Fatigue can impair
cognition as well as other symptoms (Grafman et al., 1995). The symptoms can come on slowly
or quickly. Medications haven t been proven to work well in treating the muscle symptoms, but
rehabilitation may help (LaRocco, 2011). Pain and the psychiatric problems are important to
control. Medication such as aspirin, hot pads and cold pads can help alleviate pain. Post Polio
syndrome is not usually life threatening (LaRocco, 2011). The brainstructures affected in post polio
syndrome are those involved in motor learning and control (Grafman et al., 1995). These include
structures such as the cerebellum, cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, and globus pallidus. There can
also be gray matter lesions in the reticular formation or white matter scarring of the corticospinal
tract (Grafman et al., 1995). An MRI is important to examine the brain structures... Show more

This means the individual has frequent muscular contractions during sleep (Araujo et al., 2010).
This can cause insomnia or tiredness during the day. Individuals with post polio syndrome are
generally pretty tough, and it takes a lot for them to accept modifications for activities. Exercise is
important for those with post polio syndrome (Halbritter, 2001). It can be difficult for individuals
with post polio syndrome to participate in work or school, due to the pain and fatigue (Halbritter,
2001). Driving may have to be adjusted, depending on the affected area (Halbritter,

Human Factors Of Walmart
Walmart: The Human Factor
The employees welfare in Walmart is poor. According to the two employees interviewed, Walmart
has been forcing its employees to work through meals without extra pay. Employees are also
forced to work long hours without extra pay. This has contributed to regular employees strikes due
to their unpaid overtime dues and low wages (Mitchell, 2015). Another human behavior facing
Walmart is lack of appropriate measures to ensure employees safety. The employees interviewed
indicated they are locked in stores during evening hours, and any attempt to use emergency exits is
punishable. This is a sign of poor management of employees and may lead to low motivation as they
feel less valued by their employer. The leaders in the firm indicate that the lock in policy is meant
to prevent employees from stealing goods from the firm. This shows that the relationship between
the administrators and the employees is poor. This may explain why customers complain of poor
customer service in the stores.
The other human behavior problem in Walmart is poor employees training. The employees
indicated that they are not exposed to the necessary training before they are employed in Walmart.
This leads to difficulty in carrying out their duties leading to poor customer service. There is also a
problem in the way the organization rewards its employees. It is only managers and the senior
officials in the organization who enjoy performance incentives. Junior employees are not given

Pectin Essay
The assay measured the ability of pectin to cause cell death. Both pectin samples induced necrotic
cell death in HT 29 cells, both pectin concentration and pectin type had a significant (p 0.0001)
effect on cell cytotoxicity. 400W treated pectin at 0.75 mg/ml concentration induced
14.41В±1.64% LDH activity while 0.1mg/ml resulted in 6.40В± 0.59% cytotoxicity, on the other
hand the 200W treated pectin at 0.1mg/ml concentration induced 3.09В±0.28% while 0.75mg/ml
induced 6.83 В± 0.80 % cell cytotoxicity. The ability of modified pectin to induce cell
cytotoxicity was recently reported [23], 3mg/ml of heat modified citrus pectin induced over
approximately 20% and 15% cell cytotoxicity in HepG2 cells and A549 cells respectively after
24hours exposure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
400W sonicated pectin had small molecular weight pectin fractions compared to 200W pectin,
which could have enhanced its transportation into the cells, hence higher concentration of 400W
sonicated pectin entered the cells leading to its higher activity than high molecular weight 200W
treated pectin. Moreover, 400W sonicated pectin had higher galactose and arabinose content
which are known to play a role in pectin induced cell death. It was reported that galactose rich
pectin has higher biological activity than low galactose content pectin, for instance MCP is rich in
galactose and galacturonic acid which are attributed to its activity [16,42]. Measuring the release of
the intracellular enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme by cells after exposure to a
compound is a reliable measure of compounds cytotoxicity to

  • 2. Analysis Of Marcus Borg s The Bible Recently I have been overwhelmed by the various conflicting views on the interpretation the bible. Many people say that to be a Christian you must follow and believe the bible verbatim. However, I realize that it is nearly impossible to do that because of the context in which it was written. Marcus Borg s has successfully provided a logical way to read the bible, with still being able to respect and incorporate older Christian traditions, but also focusing and taking into consideration the modernized world and reality in which we read the bible today. Hence the essential subtitle, Taking The Bible Seriously But not Literally. I salute Borg s for taking on the challenge of addressing a burning issue that separates two distinct group of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the way we see affects the way we read. As we enter the twenty first century, we need a new set of lenses through which to read the Bible. The older set, ground and polished by modernity, no longer works for millions of people. These lenses need to be replaced. The older way of seeing and reading the Bible, has made the Bible incredible and irrelevant for vast numbers of people... The need for new lenses thus exists within the church itself. I fully agree with this assertion formed by Borg. The new and constantly evolving ways of science, technology, and analytical thinking, have led many people to reject the teachings of Bible. To look at the Bible through the eyes of a non Christian, it would be easy to make rational altercations against its accuracy. Borg included the counterargument that is made by many conservative evangelical Christians, which is, God said it, I believe it, and that settles it. As if this blunt answer to the textual variants, could possibly hold any value to a non believer. Similar to Borg, I believe that it is necessary to address the context and differences of the time period that the Bible was written in, and rather than completely denying the scientifically advanced ways of todays society, incorporate it as a prompt to a better understanding of the scripture. Another analogy used by Borg in the first section of his book; came from the traditions of Buddhism, where the teachings of Buddha were seen as a finger pointing to ... Lightning does not receive as much attention because it doesn t cause as much destruction as hail, tornado, or hurricane. However, it is just as deadly. Lightning is intense, short, and a massive spark of electricity that is usually found in a thunderstorm. For these reasons, I would like to focus on this event at two locations. • 4. Modern Day Architecture Is Affected By Gothic Cathedrals Today, many people probably would not believe someone if he or she told them the term gothic had ever related to Christianity in any way, but, believe it or not, gothic was the term applied to a certain type of architecture that had everything to do with Christianity. From the style of a gothic cathedral to the art showcased inside a gothic cathedral, many Christians, poor and rich, sought these buildings to bring them one step closer to God and saw these cathedrals as spiritual realms to heaven. In this paper, it will soon be discovered how many things influenced gothic architecture, what advancements had been made to create gothic architecture, and even how modern day architecture is influenced by gothic cathedrals. By examining these three... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romanesque architecture was more of an enclosed, brick building, as opposed to the open, light filled cathedrals seen in gothic architecture. An essay written by Valerie Spanswick entitled Gothic Architecture: an Introduction, explains most of the basics of both romanesque and gothic architecture. The most obvious difference between the two types of architecture is the arches; while romanesque settles for a low, rounded arch that hardly supports itself, gothic aims for a pointed arch that will help support itself and, therefore, relieve the stress on other parts of the building. Moreover, romanesque architecture also sported massive thick columns to make up for supporting extra weight the arches could not, while gothic has slender columns, due to the amount of weight the pointed arch can support. Also, stated in Gothic Art and Architecture, flying buttresses, which are buttresses slanting from a separate pier, were inserted in gothic cathedrals and assisted on relieving even more stress and weight. These buttresses assisted in not only relieving weight but also leaving more room for windows to be placed, incorporating Suger s ideas for light. These windows were often stained glass and, just like the art, portrayed some biblical story. When hit at the right angle, the glass would project otherworldly light that made the churches appear as a bridge between a spiritual and physical realm (cite). In addition, glass was not the only thing that made these churches spectacular. Gemstones and gold were among the many things that assisted in making people feel as if they were in another realm. Suger himself even wrote, ...the loveliness of the many colored gems has called me away from external cares...and that, by the grace of God, I can be transported from this inferior to that higher world , making it his mission to have anyone that entered the church ... • 5. Social Deviance And Social Deviance Social deviance is considered a broad term, it tends to describe actions or behaviors that violate society s norms. Norms, in a simple context, are rules by, which members of society are expected to conform to. When it comes to discussing the term deviance, it tends to mean a person s failure to conform to unspoken rules established by society. Social deviance can have many forms and interpretations. Deviant acts are primarily relative to the setting because deviance in one place could be considered non deviance in another place. Theft, violence, murder, or any kind of criminal behavior, can be considered either deviant or non deviant, depending on the context. It s coming up to countries, establishments, and governing bodies to determine, which acts are and aren t acceptable. An example, could be murdering someone for drugs is not acceptable, but murdering someone in an act of self defense is. It can be concluded, all acts of deviance are subjected to review and accepted on the condition that it fits what society holds acceptable. Acts of deviance can result in some very positive outcomes.(Why is this here?) Everyone has unconsciously committed an act of deviance, in addition, have conformed to society s norms, as well. The misrepresentation of minorities for the sake of the mainstream film industry has existed since the foundation of the Hollywood industry. This makes them travel over large regions in the ocean in search of the same. Just as human beings are top of the food chain with regards terrestrial animals, so are orcas in the oceans. • 21. Analysis Of Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince Matt Hodel Dante Ms. Harlow 7 May 2012 Perversions of Hell in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince J. K. Rowling, along with many other modern fantasy authors, owes a great deal to Dante in the formulation of her best selling series. Though the subject matter she undertakes a magical world of witchcraft and wizardry would have, in Dante s eyes, landed her in the eighth circle of the Inferno, fourth pouch, Rowling would arguably have been unable to create the magical universe of Harry Potter without immense inspiration from The Divine Comedy. In an overly simplistic picture, Voldemort might be thought of as a representation of Satan, arrogantly believing that he has the power to conquer the whole wizarding community, let alone the entire world, with his magical faculties. Indeed, similar to Satan, Voldemort exemplifies the damning qualities of greed, wrath, violence, deceit, and betrayal every step of the way on his path to power. Nevertheless, Rowling s most visible debts to Dante appear in the aura given off by the darker scenes of her novels. Such chapters evoke a feeling unquestionably reminiscent of The Inferno to anyone familiar with Dante s work. Specifically, near the end of the sixth installment of the series is a chapter in which Dumbledore, a Virgilfigure, takes Harry, the Dante to Dumbledore s Virgil, on an attempt to destroy the first of seven horcruxes. The chapter alludes to Canto III of The Inferno through a series of direct contrasts with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Stereotypes And Perception Of A Worldview Introduction In our first class we discussed that a worldview acts as a filter through which we understand and perceive phenomena (Koltko Rivera, 8). This discussion was very important, as understanding the meaning of the term worldviews laid the foundation on which the following classes could be built upon. We don t see things as they are, we see them as we are (Koltko Rivera, 3) was the statement that stood out most for me, it explained how we are each shaped by our own personal experiences and therefore we each have our own unique way of viewing the world. Stereotypes play a huge part in our worldview, they aren t necessarily a bad thing but they aren t exactly good either. Stereotypes are a widely believed, oversimplified idea or belief of a particular type of person, people or thing (Online Oxford dictionary). As people living in South Africa, we come into contact with people from other cultures on a daily basis, so it is of vital importance that we are able to identify stereotypes as stereotypes, and challenge and change them if the need be. I think worldviews are an amazing thing, as much as it can be a conflict causing issue, it also allows us to gain knowledge and helps us understand and empathize with other people. Engaging with different people with different worldviews allow us to change the filters through which we view phenomena and see them in a new, different light. Gender Worldviews Before this class, I had considered feminism to be a bad thing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The play was titled, In the Red and Brown Water, and it was located at the Annex theatre. I was curious to know what the play was about so that I can get an idea of what to expect. He mentioned that it is a detailed representation of black culture in the projects of Louisiana. Being that I am an African Americanmale who was raised in a predominately white community, my interest in going to this play suddenly grew. The only knowledge I have about the projects is through media and knowing the general stereotypes of an inner city area. When I attended the play, I had a fantastic learning experience, and noticed several connections to the texts that we study in the course. To begin with, the scenery of the play wasn t traditional by any means. Rather than this being a common stage with a large crowd, this was a black box theatre play. Basically, the stage was in the middle of the room and the audience surrounded the performers. The room was about the size of an average high school classroom, which made the play more personal. In fact, the actors would interact with the crowd at times throughout the play. Next, when I first entered the room, I sensed a smooth vibe from the way the room looked. It was very dim and the director played songs by black artist from our generation to serenade the audience with black culture. At this moment, I began to feel very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The four year forced hiatus that the sport experienced from 1997 until 2001 was a direct result of the political onslaught headed by Senator John McCain (Silverman). • 29. Effects Of The Great Plains Region Introduction During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and agriculture of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl, was caused by severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper understanding of Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching the east coast. Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In their paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that have been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and temperature in the Great Plains area. The models and methods discussed include the Palmer Drought Severity Index, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, and the Community Climate System Model. It seems ironic, however, that when his fans were near him, he would show no effort to interact with the crowd. No stories, jokes, or anything of the like with which shared with the watchmen. Instead, he seemed to take the fans for granted, almost treating the fans as if they were weak and unimportant, ? occasionally even stretching his arm through the bars to let them feel how skinny he was, but then again withdrawing completely to himself, paying attention to no one.? Mind In Hegel s Decade Of The Brain Our modern understanding of the human mind is much different than it was in the 17th to 19th century, all the results from scientific research on brain studies during the Decade of the Brain. Before, Mind was viewed as a real object but now we realize that people process information somewhere, someplace in the brain. It was a creator of ideas with the personality. Today we realize that it is what the rain does, an expression of neural networks processing information. And indeed computer programs are being built to emulate that process. It is not an ethereal entity that can create memories nor complete pictures on a scratchpad but along neural fibers that reconstruct outlines of pictures. There are various states of consciousness and using language we hypothesize ideas, which are then checked out on the opposite side of the brain against reality. And sometimes the physiology falters and Mindgoes berserk. But what that describes is a natural process with information provided from the senses. It is not in communication with higher beings. This proves that there are more risks with not being vaccinated than being vaccinated. • 40. Causes Of Post-Polio Syndrome Post Polio syndrome is a musculoskeletal problem which occurs after an individual has had polio (LaRocco, 2011). There are about 440, 00 people that survived polio (LaRocco, 2011). It is estimated that between 15% and 80% of people with polio will have post polio syndrome. Post polio syndrome generally occurs 15 years after the polio virus has subsided (LaRocco, 2011). The symptoms are muscleweakness, atrophy, pain, fatigue, and cold sensitivity. Fatigue can impair cognition as well as other symptoms (Grafman et al., 1995). The symptoms can come on slowly or quickly. Medications haven t been proven to work well in treating the muscle symptoms, but rehabilitation may help (LaRocco, 2011). Pain and the psychiatric problems are important to control. Medication such as aspirin, hot pads and cold pads can help alleviate pain. Post Polio syndrome is not usually life threatening (LaRocco, 2011). The brainstructures affected in post polio syndrome are those involved in motor learning and control (Grafman et al., 1995). These include structures such as the cerebellum, cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, and globus pallidus. There can also be gray matter lesions in the reticular formation or white matter scarring of the corticospinal tract (Grafman et al., 1995). An MRI is important to examine the brain structures... Individuals with post polio syndrome are generally pretty tough, and it takes a lot for them to accept modifications for activities. Exercise is important for those with post polio syndrome (Halbritter, 2001). It can be difficult for individuals with post polio syndrome to participate in work or school, due to the pain and fatigue (Halbritter, 2001). Driving may have to be adjusted, depending on the affected area (Halbritter, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Human Factors Of Walmart Walmart: The Human Factor The employees welfare in Walmart is poor. According to the two employees interviewed, Walmart has been forcing its employees to work through meals without extra pay. Employees are also forced to work long hours without extra pay. This has contributed to regular employees strikes due to their unpaid overtime dues and low wages (Mitchell, 2015). Another human behavior facing Walmart is lack of appropriate measures to ensure employees safety. The employees interviewed indicated they are locked in stores during evening hours, and any attempt to use emergency exits is punishable. This is a sign of poor management of employees and may lead to low motivation as they feel less valued by their employer. The leaders in the firm indicate that the lock in policy is meant to prevent employees from stealing goods from the firm. This shows that the relationship between the administrators and the employees is poor. This may explain why customers complain of poor customer service in the stores. The other human behavior problem in Walmart is poor employees training. The employees indicated that they are not exposed to the necessary training before they are employed in Walmart. This leads to difficulty in carrying out their duties leading to poor customer service. There is also a problem in the way the organization rewards its employees. It is only managers and the senior officials in the organization who enjoy performance incentives. Junior employees are not given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Pectin Essay The assay measured the ability of pectin to cause cell death. Both pectin samples induced necrotic cell death in HT 29 cells, both pectin concentration and pectin type had a significant (p 0.0001) effect on cell cytotoxicity. 400W treated pectin at 0.75 mg/ml concentration induced 14.41В±1.64% LDH activity while 0.1mg/ml resulted in 6.40В± 0.59% cytotoxicity, on the other hand the 200W treated pectin at 0.1mg/ml concentration induced 3.09В±0.28% while 0.75mg/ml induced 6.83 В± 0.80 % cell cytotoxicity. The ability of modified pectin to induce cell cytotoxicity was recently reported [23], 3mg/ml of heat modified citrus pectin induced over approximately 20% and 15% cell cytotoxicity in HepG2 cells and A549 cells respectively after 24hours exposure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 400W sonicated pectin had small molecular weight pectin fractions compared to 200W pectin, which could have enhanced its transportation into the cells, hence higher concentration of 400W sonicated pectin entered the cells leading to its higher activity than high molecular weight 200W treated pectin. Moreover, 400W sonicated pectin had higher galactose and arabinose content which are known to play a role in pectin induced cell death. It was reported that galactose rich pectin has higher biological activity than low galactose content pectin, for instance MCP is rich in galactose and galacturonic acid which are attributed to its activity [16,42]. Measuring the release of the intracellular enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme by cells after exposure to a compound is a reliable measure of compounds cytotoxicity to ...
