The document summarizes the film trailer "Deception" and how it uses conventions of real film trailers. The summary discusses the narrative structure, target audience, camera shots, sound and editing pace used in the trailer. Specifically, it opens with the dead body, introduces the main characters, shows a problem developing between the sisters, and includes a series of events. The target audience is identified as 20-35 year olds of both genders. Various camera shot types, including close-ups, are used. Music and voiceover are included to build suspense. Fast-paced editing is used to create a dramatic feel. Overall, the trailer aims to follow conventions of the crime/thriller genre while also challenging stere

4. Genre
• You are able to see that the genre of the film is crime/thriller through the
camera, sound, editing, and mise-en-scene. These all put together the
genre and along with the other generic conventions of a trailer, our trailer
has a well constructed narrative, target audience, special effects, suitable
music and the right pace. The ways in which the genre is portrayed in our
trailer are as follows: the mysterious looking characters, the plotting of a
murder through a text, the mysterious meeting, the unseen face who gives a
handshake, the voiceover over the dead body, the dialogue, the mysterious
on going music, chase scene, flashbacks, character in misery.
Main character
• The main character of both crime genre and thriller genre is mainly male.
This is because the target audience for crime/thriller is mostly male. We
though to challenge this convention and make the main character a female.
This was we thought that as well as challenging the stereotype, we will also
attract more female audience to watch our crime/thriller. This is the reason
why we aimed our film at both females and males. We had a few different
scenes compared to other crime/thrillers such as not having fight scenes or
explosions.
5. Captions from the trailer. genre
This scene makes the crime leak through; the character is texting on her mobile phone
and she types “ I need a favour”. The constant going back to a zoom in of her eyes
brings the thrill into the scene and the audience may make predictions of what she is
asking for. Together the thrill and the crime illustrates our final chose genre of a
combination of the two-crime & thriller. The fact that this scene comes immediately after
her crying showing that this text will take the next action of revenge. However, she is
asking for help because she cannot accomplish this task herself. Her vulnerability and
femininity is shown when she was crying and now again when she is asking for help;
this further suggests that she is a weak character and so the audience must sympathise
with her. The zoom in of her eyes and back to the screen show her certainty of the text
and that she is fully aware of what she if typing and she is stern on her decision. At this
point of the trailer, the audience will want to know what favour she is asking for and who
she is asking.
The idea of using a phone as a source for contact or help was from ‘the November
man’ crime film trailer. In this trailer the character is phoning someone and we are
forced to look at his stern facial expressions. We also got the idea of having the
characters eyes reveal seriousness because we though that this is a good way to make
the audience be engaged with the character. The character in ‘the November man’ was
phoning someone and talking quietly; there were several cuts from him and back to the
girl he was calling. The difference between our scene ‘deception’ was that we chose the
character to text instead because we wanted less dialogue and more of the mysterious
background music. Also we thought that the quietness of the character brought more
mystery and thrill. Therefore, we decided that we would do cuts from her eyes to her
text, back and forth for effect and emphasis.
The Novemeber Man
6. Continued: genre
The characters are looking at each other and the camera is
positioned behind the shoulder. This means that the person
that the main character is talking is hidden to the audience
and we do not know who this is. There was a scene in ‘the
November man’ where the camera was over the shoulder of
the character and the other character was talking. The
meeting in our trailer ‘deception’ looks mysterious because it
is set in a dark forest and the character is very serious and
looking around to see if the forest is empty or not before she
goes on taking. Compared to ‘the November man’ the setting
is very different, the lighting is more lighter in the November
man trailer and the character has a sly grin on his face.
The handshake that we have in our trailer is also very mysterious because the audience will
know that there has been some sort of agreement of something. Also th fact that the other
character is wearing gloves poses more questions about who this hidden character might be.
The audience may automatically think that this character is a male only because the main
character said “make sure she’s gone by tomorrow ok”, so the audience will think that she
has requested a hit man for her job. We know that a crime will take place with this dialogue
because we know that the main character is trying to get someone killed.
Chase scene
The chase scene in our trailer emphasises the genre of crime and thriller. This is because
in a crime and thriller film the character are constantly in action to achieve the aim set. Or
them in some cases to fight against another criminal or if the character is a female, then
she may be trying to run away from someone who is trying to harm her. This scene from
our trailer is set in the woods and so this makes the thrill of being alone and vulnerable
more apparent. It also develops on what may happen to the girl who is being chased, and
the audience may conclude that a rime scene will take place in the forest at this time.

7. Narrative
• The narrative of a typical film trailer is as follows:
-the opening
-build up
-problems
-events
• In our trailer ‘deception’ we have made the narrative of
the film clear, but we have made sure that we have not
given away too much of the story or any of the ending.
The narrative of our trailer shows the progression of
taking action. We have made the narrative reflect on our
chosen genre so that we have made a suitable genre for
the suitable target audience. We can only be sure that
the narrative is clear if we divide the trailer in the
opening, the build up of the trailer, the problems that
characters face, and the series of event that are shown
to illustrate the genre.
8. Captions from the trailer. Narrative
1) In the opening, we are introduced to the scene of a dead body and a voice over saying “this is not a suicide, this is a murder,
this person has been hit with a rock”, there is then a credit saying ‘with Michael Pearce’ which comes up as the voiceover is
being heard. This is the unique selling point as we are mentioning that the film has the voice of this actor and so people may
want to watch it because of the star. We are also introduce to the two female characters as there names appear on the screen
too. When their names appear they are arguing, so this automatically brings suspense to the scene.
Michael Pearce Shiwa nameSara name
2) As we build up, there is an intertitle saying ‘the story of,,,’ after this Intertitle, we go back to the two female characters,
which were introduce in the opening, so we know that they are the two main stars of the film. However only this time they
are happily talking.
9. 3) There is a problem that has occurred between the two sisters but this
becomes more apparent when one of the characters is crying in a
small dark, empty room. This problem leads us onto what the film may
be about and how this character will get herself out of the problem (if
she can). The scene goes from the sisters arguing, to them being
happy and then back to one of the sisters crying. This is put in place to
make the audience want to ask questions.

4) There are then a series of events that take place such as the meeting, the chase scene, the phone plotting, the flashback of
the sister happily talking an walking as well as the dead body that was shown at both the beginning and end of the trailer.
10. Unique selling points
• The main characters in film trailer are always the selling point for the film. They are always introduced at the
beginning and their name is always appeared in the trailer to let the audience know that a film ‘star’ is in the
movie. We had done this in DECEPTION, by writing the characters names as they speak. This is a way of selling
the film to the target audience because sometimes, if an actor is always in a certain genre film, then they are
associated with that genre and people know that they are the best actor for that role. Therefore, when they see
that ‘stars’ name in a film trailer they already have a view of the film being good and so will want to watch it.
• Another unique selling point for a film trailer would be the special effects. In many films special effects are used to
create creative scenes and to attract the audience to come and watch the film. Sometimes, these effects are
done through CGI. In my film trailer, we did not use CGI however, we added special effects in the trailer with the
facilities on the premiere elements software. There were many tools that we used and many effect and transitions
that were there to use. The chase scene in our trailer would be seen as a special effect as the camera was shaky
and had a hand held effect. This was an action scene and a main part of our trailer so it would be a key scene.
We used transitions that wiped the scene, or zoomed in the scene so that there were a variety of skills being
shown. We also used text transition so that the titles and the character names have a ‘typed effect’
• Another main unique selling point was the dialogue and the voiceover. This is a unique selling point because what
the character say and how they say it may depend on whether someone wants to watch the film or not. A trailer
does not usually have much dialogue in it apart from a couple of voiceovers, that’s why these few sentences of
dialogue should be relevant, catchy and meaningful.
typing effect.
11. Target audience
• The target audience for our trailer would be 20-35 year
olds both male and female. This was influenced after
research into target audience for the crime and thriller
genre. We found that this age group are most likely to
watch a crime/ thriller. However, results showed that the
majority of this age group will be males. We challenged
this convention making our trailer have the main
characters as females so that females would also be
interested in this genre. We evaluated that the reason
behind why more males prefer crime/thriller over females
may be because there is action and fast paced editing in
this genre, and males are stereotypically associated with
liking action. We had the age certificate as 15 because
we though that both crime and thriller is not suitable for
the younger audience. Also due to certain scenes like
chase scenes and murder scenes, we are sure that it
wouldn’t attract an audience below 15 years.
12. Camera-shot types
• It is important to make sure that the camera is used
effectively when filming. This means that having the
correct equipment for the camera as well as positioning
the shots in various different ways that are effective. We
analysed many trailers to see the shot types that are
used for effect and we found that many trailer have
zoom-ins, long shots, wide shots, shot reverse shot and
extreme close-ups. These shot types are used so that
there is an effect on what the scene is showing. For
example, on trailer that I analysed was ‘the November
man’. In this trailer there was an establishing shot at the
beginning of a trailer and this shot was taken as an aerial
shot. This was an effective way to begin a trailer.
13. Captions from the trailer. camera
• Our trailer begins with a close-up of the dead body covered in a black bag, the camera then zooms into the black
bag so that we have an extreme close up. There is a voiceover this shit and then the camera zooms out so that
there is a long shot of the body.
• We then had a two shot
where the two main
characters were having
a conversation. There
was shot reverse shot
as each of them were
talking. This shot was a
medium shot so we
could see up to their
waist. This scene then
went in to a wide shot
where we could see the
background and see a
full view of them.
• In ‘the November man’ there were many two shots.
Sometimes to show a fight between two characters,
or sometimes to talk about a crime.
14. Continued: camera
• Our trailer has many
zoom ins of the
characters and the action
that they are in. however,
there is one part of the
trailer where there are a
lot of extreme close-ups.
These were of the main
characters eyes while she
was texting on her phone.
We saw an extreme close
up of the eyes in ‘the
November man’ trailer an
so we chose to use this
convention as we thought
it was an effective way to
have a direct contact with
the character, and be able
to see their true
expression.

The November man
• There is then an over the shoulder shot when the
character is having the mysterious meeting in the
woods. After this meeting the camera is placed at a
birds eye angle to get the hand shake.
Birds eye view
• At the end of the trailer, there is a high angle shot to show the dead body covered in a bag, and to show the surroundings
around. This is similar to the high angle establishing shot that was at the beginning of ‘the November man’ trailer. We filmed
this standing on a high surface so that we could get a shot that looked a bit like an aerial show but not as high.
The November Man
The Novemeber ManOur trailer- DECEPTION
15. Sound
• We have a non diegetic soundtrack playing throughout the trailer. The pitch of the music gets higher when the
character is running. This is to show action and to bring suspense. The music also gets upbeat when she is
texting on her phone to show that there will soon be action. Also to show that she is preparing for some kind of
action.
• The music soundtrack
that we chose to have
playing was the
instrumental version of
‘recovery’ by James
Arthur. This was because
the beginning of the
soundtrack sounds
mysterious and so we
thought this fitted in well
with our chosen genre of
crime and thriller. To get
this soundtrack I went
onto YouTube converter.
When we were inserting
the soundtrack in premier
elements the music did
not start till about 7
seconds in, so we had to
crop the beginning of the
music track on an online
software called ‘mp3
cutter’. On mp3 cutter, we
cut the beginning of the
song ion just 3 simple,
easy, quick steps:
• We also used this software again when we
had the chase scene in the trailer. In this
part of the trailer we wanted an upbeat
fast paced music but the soundtrack was
falling at a slow pace if we left it to flow
throughout the trailer. Therefore we used
this software to cut the high, fast paced bit
of the music and inserted in the chase
scene onwards.
• We had a voiceover at the beginning of
the trailer which was there to add effect to
the image that was shown whilst the
voiceover was playing.
• There were only 2 main dialogues in the
trailer. On where the sisters are arguing
and the other where the character ids
having the mysterious meeting. Dialogue
is put in place so that the audience know
what is going on and to set the scene.
16. Editing-Pace
• There is then a tracking shot, where the camera follow the two sisters walking up the pathway. This scene continues to go on
behind the characters shoulders almost like we are standing behind them and following them. When they are sitting on the
bench, we see their side view of their face talking and laughing and then we come to a front view of them talking and laughing
in the same location. This is similar to the tracking shot in ‘the November man’ trailer when the main character is running
toward the car and the camera is following him. As well as many of the fighting scenes where the camera is following his action.
• Edited so meaning is clear. We had many cuts from shot to shot because trailers have many cuts. Fast short cuts give an
effect to the trailer because it makes it more un-chronological and trailer like. Fast paced editing gives a dramatic feel to the
trailer and builds tension.
• We had a montage of images during the end of the trailer showing flashbacks, plotting and the death scene. These were all
fast paced and were coming up one after another with just a cut between each.
• We also had a ‘hand-held’
shaky effect when there
was the chase scene. The
camera felt like it was
moving as the character
was running, this was
effective as the audience
can feel like they are
behind the character in
danger.
17. Captions from the trailer: editing
• On premier elements we added transitions from shot to shot so that the trailer looks more professional and similar to other
trailers. This software had many transitions to choose from as well as effects that we added onto our shots. In addition we
added text transitions such as the typing effect.
• The main transition
that we used from
one scene to
another was ‘dip to
black’ this would
make the screen go
black for a second
and then to the
other scene. This
transition added
more cuts to our
trailer, which is
what we originally
wanted.
• We used the ‘fade in’ text transition which had a typing effect; the letter
came one by one like a typewriter
We added a few effects on the dead body such
as ‘sparkling’. This was to bring attention on the
dead body and to bring emphasis. Also because it
was at the beginning of the trailer, the audience
may question who the dead body is so as soon as
the trailer starts, there is already suspense and
tension
18. Continued: editing
• We had several shots in black and white.
This was a main effect that we used
because we wanted to set the scene of a
dark, dull atmosphere. This is a generic
convention of crime and thriller films that
we developed and used.
• This transition was the ‘wipe down’ effect. When the
character swears, the scene wipes down to go to
the next intertitle which is ‘falls apart’. This is a
dramatic effect and adds pressure and
exaggeration.
• This effect was a zoom in of the rock. The camera zooms into the
handshake, to get to the zoom in of the rock. This adds effect
because it emphasises on the rock.
19. Mise-en-scene
• In our trailer we had to make sure that we were using
Imaginative and appropriate use of mise-en-scene. Mise
en-scene includes the following: lighting; costume/make-
up; props; setting; acting. Mise-en-scene is important
when filming in order to make sure that the genre is
noticeable and also to make it look realistic, professional
and well constructed. If the mise-en-scene is not used
properly, the trailer would not have been suitable for the
target audience, wouldn’t have met the genre
requirements and also wouldn’t looked like we thought
and planned the trailer properly.
20. Lighting
• The lighting in our trailer was different throughout. We had lighter backgrounds when the sisters are happy and darker when
the characters are in misery or then when there are mysterious scenes going on. We have the natural daylight when they are
sitting on the bench, this is to bring about the happy, cheerful mood and relationship that they have to begin with.
• We have dim light when the character is in the house crying to show a dull side of the film.
• The lighting is also dark but natural when the chase scene happens and when the mysterious meeting takes place. This is to
emphasise the genre of the film as well as to add a little thrill and darkness to the movie.
• We have this scene twice in the trailer. Once at the beginning and once during the end. The one that was at the beginning
was in colour and the one at the end had a black and white effect on it. This was to show that at the beginning the sisters
were happy, and then during the end, they ‘fell apart’ as the intertitle had shown. It can also be used to show that it is a
flashback that the audience are watching.
beginning
END
21. Costume/make-up
• The costume is important to notice when creating a film because you have to make sure that if
there are any special costumes that the character has to wear then it must be worn. Also if there
are any special make-up techniques needed on the character such as a bruise or a scratch, then
that it is considered as well. However, in our trailer, we didn’t need any special costumes or
make-up. The characters were fine to act in their casual clothes and so we showed this is the
wide shots in the trailer. Although the main characters did not need a special costume, we
wanted to make sure that the mysterious person in the forest (who was shaking the characters
hand) was wearing black. This was so that they were not recognisable and they were almost
camouflaged in the dark background. We made sure that this character was wearing gloves so
that the audience cannot tell whether the character is male or female by looking at the hands.
22. Setting
• Our trailer is mainly set outdoors. We have a couple scenes in the house, however, the main scenes take place in the forest.
• These few scenes are taken in the house because
it is showing that the action has not yet started.
This is preparation and she is plotting in the
comfort of her own house. The crying scene
shows that she is looking for some comfort so she
is in her own house in a small room trying to calm
herself down.
• These scenes
were set
outdoors in
the forest at a
late time,
when it was a
bit dark to set
a dark scene
and that
something
bad is going
to happen,
maybe a
crime
• These scenes were set outdoors
but in the daylight to show a happier
mood
23. Props
• Props are used in film trailer to give a flavour of the genre and also to show what action will be held. For example, if there are
guns/weapons shown in a trailer, the audience will know that they are expecting murders and killing. Or if the prop is something
like a book or a jewel/treasure, then you know the film is most likely based around that main prop. In our trailer ‘deception’ we
had three main props, these were: the phone; the rock; the dead body.
• The phone was main prop
because the character was
using it as a way to plot
something. Plotting in a
crime genre is a generic
convention and using a
phone is a very common
way to plot or plan
something. A phone is a
more appropriate way of
plotting something
because the film is set in
the modern century, where
mobile phones are used on
a daily basis.
• The rock in our trailer is the main prop because
the voiceover at the beginning says how it has
been used to commit a crime. The voiceover at
the beginning of the trailer says “this is not a
suicide, this is a murder, this person has been
hit with a rock”. The rock has been used to
murder someone, therefore, this prop is a main
prop and is zoomed into.
• The dead body was another main prop in our trailer because it was the result of
the crime. We made this dead body by putting our coats, hoodies, bags and spare
clothing into black dustbin bags and shaping it into a body shape. We made the
head of the body by putting a basket ball in the bag, this gave the head shape and
the body looked more realistic. In a crime genre film, there is always a murder, so
the fact that we had a dead body in our trailer explained that we were following the
generic conventions of a crime/thriller genre film.
24. Credits & Intertitles
• The credits are shown at the end. These are who the actors are and who the film distributors and producer
are as well as the directors and other cast. This can sometimes be shown during the trailer as well to
introduce the character the way we did. In our trailer we had the names of the ‘stars’ during the trailer and
then we also put credits at the end saying that they were in the film. Intertitles are there to make the narrative
clearer and also to make the audience know a little bit about what is going on.
• The Intertitles reveal only the attractive bits so that it makes the audience want to see the film rather than
giving away too much of the story and making the trailer seem like a short film rather than a trailer. We had
to make sure that the Intertitles/ dialogue/ voiceover fitted with the image/scene that was being shown and
that all the Intertitles flowed from each other.
25. Continued: Intertitles
• The Intertitles are supposed to go with the scenes that are shown afterwards. In my trailer we have done this.
Some examples from our trailer:
26. Film distribution/production
company logo
AND age restrictions
• Trailers generally begin with age restrictions, the production company logo and the distributors. This is because
instantly the audience will know who they are and whether the film is for them. The company logo can sometimes
be the reason as too whether or not the audience will watch the film or will enjoy it. Big companies like Warner
bros, 20th
century fox and universal have produced blockbuster and so the reputation of these companies will
make the mind up of audiences. Normally, huge companies like mentioned have a higher budgets and higher
quality films, so this can instantly be a reason as to why someone will want to watch the film.
• Production logos are generally just up for a few seconds, they are only there to show who has made the film.
They often have creative designs to catch the audiences attention so that they can be promoted an gain extra
money and a greater audience. Lower budged films do not have as creative logos because of the limited
resources available, unlike mega companies.
27. Length
• The length of trailers are typically 2-3 minutes long; our
trailer is just over 2 minutes long. They should be short
and not give too much of the story away. They should
also not give away the ending of the film as the idea of a
trailer is to attract and bring suspense for the audience,
and if the ending is given away, it will be pointless to
watch the film. Film trailers should have key scenes from
the film and only the best bits with loads of action and
effects are shown. If trailers are too long, then it will feel
more like a short film, which is not the aim of a trailer.
Trailers have scenes that are not in chronological order
so that the main storyline is not given away.
28. Film title AND releasing information
• The title of the film is used in trailers to showcase the name of the film in a more creative way than just plain text. The title
often have different picture effects and it has a link with the genre of the film. Although there are many effects that are
available for mass companies, the film title is always kept as simple as possible, this is because simplicity will remind the
audience of what the name is and they can spread the word to other about the film on social network sites so that the film
has more viewers.
• Releasing information can include the date of when the film will be released in cinemas or then occasionally, film trailer just
have ‘coming soon’ at the end of the trailer to make the audience stay up to date with the releasing of the film. We chose to
have ‘coming soon’ at the end of our trailer to get our audience waiting in anticipation!
30. Typical conventions of film
magazines
• Masthead-this is usually at the top in bold font. It is clear
and short.
• Strap lines- these are usually on the left of the
magazines and are an insight on what the magazine
includes.
• Barcode-this usually very small in the corner of the
magazine. Sometimes with it is written the issue number
and the date
• Main image-this is the main attraction for the audience.
The image is supposed to be clear and carefully laid out.

The masthead is placed at the top of
the magazine in big bold font. This is to
stand out to the audience. We have
chosen to do the masthead in white
font because the rest of the magazine
has dark, dull colours so therefore, this
is shocking white and stands out most.
We have chosen to have a close up of
the main image. This challenges the
typical conventions as they usually
have medium shots or long shots. We
chose to have a close up because we
wanted the characters expression to
be shown. We also wanted the
audience to be able to sympathise with
her as it is visible that she is in fear
and distress due to the tears and direct
eye-contact.The headings of the Straplines
(starring, heads up and including) are
written in white in a red box. This is to
stand out to the audience. We thought
that if the headings stand out then the
audience will want to read the
Straplines underneath. The headings
are short, so that the reader is not put
off.
The film title is placed at the bottom of the magazine and is quite large. This is to let the
audience know what film magazine it is but also for the primary purpose of attraction. It is the
only thing yellow on the page as well as ‘2015 preview’ to show the link; that deception Is a new
film. On top of the title is written ‘most shocking film of 2015’, to attract readers and make the
film feel like it is a ‘must see’. Also it is a new edition and so it will attract regular ‘total film’
The footer is another way to
attract the audience. By saying
‘PLUS’, it shows that the
magazine offers that little bit
extra.
He age certificate is written on
the magazine so that the
audience can automatically
know if the magazine/film is
for them
The straplines on the magazine are
placed in the left side if the magazine.
They are in the ‘c’ motion. This is a
typical convention of a magazine. One
of the Straplines says free cinema
tickets’. This strapline will attract the
audience because he magazine is
giving them something for free. The
Strapline ‘meet the cast’ will attract the
audience because they will be able to
get closer to the stars in the film that
they enjoy. Also the last strapline says
‘ exclusive interviews’, this explains
how it is something special.
This is the flash on the magazine. It
has the thing that is supposed to stand
out most to the audience. It has
written in it “Liam Neeson REVEALS
ALL”. This will stand out to the
audience because it means that
nothing will be hidden from them.
This skyline comes with the skyline. It
is saying how all the films from ‘total
film’ are modern and will interest those
in today's society.
34. Typical conventions if a film poster
• Film title must be visible and stand out
• Releasing information
• Film cast must be included. The audience should be able
to see the starring actors
• Production company, directors, producers and other
credits. These are usually at the bottom in small text
• the poster should be eye-catching and show the genre
clearly
35. Analysing our film poster
We got our inspiration for our main
image and title from this existing
poster. The main mage on our
poster has 2 people and so does the
‘parker’ poster. Also one of the
character is giving direct eye contact
and the other is looking elsewhere.
In our poster ‘deception’ we have
the victim giving eye contact,
whereas in the ‘parker’ poster, the
woman is giving eye contact and
she looks like the evil one.
Furthermore, the main image (2
people) are both placed in the
centre. The shots are also similar;
they are both long shots and the title
is positioned in the same place-just
below the middle of the poster. The
title is written big and bold so it is
unmissable. The house-style of the
‘parker’ poster is mainly black and
red. The house-style for our poster
is mainly black and yellow. On our
poster one character is wearing
black whilst the other is wearing
god; this is similar to the ‘parker’
poster where the male is wearing
black and the female is in greyscale.
In both posters the main models are
mainly showing a side view.
Existing poster ‘parker’

Existing posters ‘offender’ & ‘public enemies’
We got inspiration on where to place
the ‘stars’ names from the ‘offender’
poster. They are placed on top of the
poster almost like a skyline. They are
written in larger text than the other
credits. This is because they are the
main characters in the film and so
they are supposed to attract the
audience to buy the poster. A poster
is also made to advertise the film
before the releasing and so the cast
names are the main marketing
strategy. The ‘offender’ poster has
written their stars names in orange,
we have chosen white. The font
colour is normally chosen after
deciding the background, to see
which one contrasts well with it.
We got inspiration of where to place our extra credits from ‘public
enemies’ poster. Some posters have their credits at the top.
However, after many different attempts, we thought that placing them
at the bottom will look like a more organised poster. They are there
to inform producer and director information as well as the cast.
‘public enemies’ has the release date in the credits box. We have
chosen to add ‘coming soon’ rather than a date to bring anticipation
to the audience.
This is something that we added on our poster. We thought that a
quote to say how good the film is will attract the target audience.
Also the guardian describe the film as “SHOCKING” and THRILLING
film of the year”, which links back to the genre, as a thriller is meant
to be outrageous.
37. Overall
To conclude, I think that we produced the three products very carefully
and followed the codes and conventions of crime/thriller genre films.
Generally, we followed and devolved the typical codes and
conventions for our two ancillary texts and main products because
we felt that theses conventions were the reason why existing
products look professional and realistic. We didn’t challenge any
major conventions for our products because if we did so, we would
probably make them look les effective. Also from audience
feedback, we gained knowledge that they liked many of the typical
conventions so in order to make successful appealing products, we
had to listen to our audience feedback. Throughout the process of
making the products, I feel as though my skills have developed
vastly in terms of new technologies. Also, I am more aware now,
that asking for audience feedback as you go along is very important
to ensure that you make a product that they will be attracted to. I
think that by following the codes and conventions for our main
products and two ancillary texts, I feel more confident in the
products and feel as though they are successful, attractive and fit for
purpose.
