14. What is the difference between a monocot and a dicot seed?
Monocot seed has only one seed leaf inside the seed coat. It
is often only a thin leaf because the endosperm to feed the
new plant is not inside the seed leaf. Dicots have two seed
leaves inside the seed coat. They are usually rounded and fat,
because they contain the endosperm to feed the embryo
plant. Seed has its main parts. Hypocotyl is beneath the
cotyledons. It is the off-white part of the embryo where the
young root stem of the seed begins. Embryo is consisting of a
plumule which develops into first leaves. Cotyledons
provides food for the plant when it first breaks out of the
seed coat and before it has time to establish its roots or make
its own food. Epicotyl is above the cotyledons produces the
stem and leaves. Seed Coat or Testa is the protective covering
of the seed.

15. When the seed settles in the
soil, it takes in water, swells up
and breaks open so that the
new plant can grow out. This
process as shown in figure 3 is
called germination.

17. When the first sign of life
from a seed appears out
of the soil, it is called
seedling.

19. The seedling in figure 4 continues to
grow to its full maturity. When
plants become mature, they get
stronger roots and an increased
number of branches and leaves as
shown in figure 6. The newly
produces seeds disperse across the
land and begin their new life as a
plant.

21. One benefit of having plant in the environment is
that it gives oxygen to us and so many people
really love planting because of this beficial effect
of plants in the environment. It becomes one of
the hobby of the people in their backyard during
quarantine. They use to post on their facebook
about new plants they bought and cared for.
Some of them make use of lanscaping as their
hobby. Landscaping is the activity of designing or
improving gardens and the surroundings to make
them attractive and beautify as what you see in
figure 7 below.

because they help in so many ways. Plants
release oxygen into the atmosphere by
means of photosynthesis. Plants from the
ocean are best plants that provides air that
we breathe. Plants help in some
environmental issues we are facing today,
like burning of fossil fuels that resulted to
high level of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere. Plants can store carbon dioxide
from the atmosphere especially the
terrestrial and ocean plants.
