Schooling 50 years ago had fewer rules, with students getting detention or sent to the principal's office for misbehavior. Classes had 20-30 students and studied subjects like mythology, phonics, math, and social studies. Students would eat lunch in their classrooms or go home, as cafeterias and hot lunch were not available. Playground equipment was limited, so children played games like jump rope, marbles, soccer and football. The small schools went only to 6th grade, starting each day with prayer and Bible reading.
