Schooling 50 years ago…
School rules In the past they didn’t have much rules but if they broke something they would either get detention or go to the principals office. The rules were They weren’t allowed to chew gum No talking to their neighbour.
What they studied in class Students got to pick which reading/English class they wanted to be in. They studied subjects like Greek & Roman mythology , phonics (typing but no computers), math, social studies etc. they would have to learn to spell all their words or the teacher would circle it in red pen then make you write it 5-10 times on the chalkboard.
Number of students in a class The classrooms were pretty small but they had 20-30 students in a classroom but 200 students in the whole school. Other classes had 16 students.
lunch 50 years ago students would eat lunch in their classrooms or had a choice of going home and having lunch. There were no cafeterias or hot lunch.
Playgrounds They would slide down the slide with paper wax from their lunch. Playground equipment wasn’t available in their time so they played jump rope or marbles. They played a lot of soccer, football etc.
Anything else that was different? the school was small and went up to only grade six Everyday in the morning they start with a prayer and their teacher would read from the bible There was only one computer in the classroom and the students had to raise money to buy it , it was a commodore 64.
