On the school yard they had a jungle gym They had wooden toys Had a choice of going home for lunch or just to eat in the classrooms at lunchtime. Playground
Library The library was little but had lots of books There were no computers in those times. Used card catologs to search for books Usually students weren't allowed to use the library until you were grade 3 unless they were good readers.
Twenty to thirty students were in a class Kindergarten had about thirty-two kids There were small rooms in a classroom Students in a class
What was studied? Students got to pick which English and reading classes they wanted to take. Students learnt how to spell by when the teacher circled a word with her red pen and made them write it 5 or 10 times on the chalk board. Maths, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Language, Art, Music, Physical. Education and Health was studied. For maths there weren't calculators.
School Rules. There we not much rules in those days but if someone broke a rule they had to serve detention. Students weren't allowed to chew gum or talk to their neighbour. For detention students wrote lines, stayed in after school doing extra work and cleaning up the classroom.
Schools went up to only six grades. School started everyday in the morning with a prayer and teacher read from the bible. Students walked to school or rode a horse to get there. Was there anyfing else that was different?
