Emily Darter is interested in becoming a school counselor. She enjoys helping people and finds her religion very important. After taking surveys, she learned she is social, works well with others, and likes organization. Her resume shows she has experience in clerical work and childcare. She is involved in many extracurricular activities and volunteer work. Emily researched the job duties, requirements, hours, salary and educational programs for school counselors to further explore this career.
A philosophy on the role and scope of the school counselor in the modern school system. A focus on academic, career, and personal/social domains. Building a collaborative, community environment for diverse families and schools.

2. A GLIMPSE INTO THE LIFE OF
EMILY…
After taking multiple surveys on
missouriconnections.org, I know that I am
a very social person, I work well with
others, and like to be very organized.
I love people!
I enjoy being around others, and helping people in
any way that I can.
My religion is very important to me.
I would love being a school counselor because I
would only have to work 5 day weeks, and I would
always be able to attend church services.

17. JOB INTERVIEW
This past year, I interviewed my high school counselor
to see if I might be interested in counseling as a
career. Here is a sample of some of the questions I
asked:
What would a normal day at work look like for you?
How many hours of overtime work do you complete in a week?
Is being a school counselor a very structured job? Do you have a set
schedule that you follow each day?
How much work do you work over the summer to prepare for the
next school year?
Do you attend training courses that benefit your job often?
What degrees did you have to obtain to be able to become a
counselor?
Would you recommend being a school counselor to someone who is
interested or researching the profession?
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
18. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Iam involved in a lot of service/volunteer
activities that will help enhance my
employability in later years.
Mayor’s Youth Council: Assists the mayor/city
administration with projects concerning the town.
Beta Club: Promotes the ideals of academic
achievement, character, service and leadership
among elementary and secondary school students.
Key Club: A club that helps build leadership through
school and community activities.
Future Business Leaders of America: Helps
promote leadership and builds good business
attributes.
20. COMMUNICATION
This past summer I attended a church camp in
Nashville, TN. I got to go out into the city and minister
to mistreated children. I spent the entire week at a
church VBS planning crafts for the kids. I loved to give
the kids attention that they would never have
received anywhere else. It really helped me to realize
my true calling in life. I have the potential to make a
difference.
