A fight breaks out between inmates Carla and Nicole in the prison dining hall after Yasmin accidentally bumps into Carla. Their argument escalates into a physical altercation as they start throwing punches at each other on the floor while other inmates gather around and cheer. The guards Watson and Borris rush in to separate the two fighters and take them, along with Yasmin, away to be locked in their cells for the night as punishment.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Scene 8 dining hall Written by me
1. Scene 8 Dining Hall
The bell rings for dinner, and all the inmates come marching in a sequence. At one end of the
concert hall 3 dinner ladies are standing waiting to serve the inmates with Mr Watson on one side
and Borris on the other.
Mr Watson: COMEE ONN LADIES, chop chop now get in line and get your slop!
Borris: YEAH! You heard him, don’t waste our time
Inmate: ermm hows about you just Shut up , we don’t take orders from a little man like you.
Mr Watson: Leave him alone you , hes new. So you’ll be seeing his face alot!
Borris : Gulps and looks down with a bit of embarrassment
Inmates: Well that says it all..
The inmate looks up and down at borris moves closer to him and gives him a little fright then she
moves passed him laughing.
There is a Message on the Tannoy announcement from the governer for all Guards to see her in
her office immediately.
Mr Watson: Come on Borris Mrs Sullivan needs us.
Borris: But we shouldn’t really leave...
Mrs Watson: NO BUTS BORRIS , The lady has spoken, we’ll only be 5 minutes.
Borris: Your right what can happen in those five minutes...
The guards leave unnoticed.
As all the inmates sit down in lines to eat their food .Yasmin walks to the canteen after everyone’s
sat down then Carla walks in and over to the canteen followed by Nicole a few minutes later.
Yasmin is looking around the dining hall to see where she can sit, after other inmates showing her
that she is not welcome to sit anywhere she slips and falls into Carla.
Carla: What the ...
Carla takes a deep breath and looks down at herself, while all of the inmates look at them in the
middle of the dining hall in shock whispering to each other and moving away from them, Yasmin is
stuck on the spot, really scared and speaking with a stutter..
Yasmin: Oh my god Im..im so..so..so Sorryyy...
Carla: YEAH YOU WILL BE WHEN IM FINISHED WITH YOU, you lil brat...
Yasmin: I didn’t mmm..meaan it
Carla: well Il mean every single bruise and cut I leave on your body!
2. Carla Grabs Yasmin by the hair and starts to speak to the other inmates as they gather around.
Carla: New girl wants to know what it’s really like in here , don’t you(trying to mimic her
sweet voice).. she wants to be taught a lesson...Il show her one she never forget!
Nicole at the canteen walks over and pushes people out the way and shouts out
Nicole: Oiiii why don’t you mess with someone your own size, you good for nothing tart
All inmates move right back now even more shocked and completely silent to what has just
happened. Carla lets go and pushes the newbie who falls to the floor hurt, and looks up slowly at
Nicole who are now facing each other at a distance in the middle of the hall.
Carla: Excuse me...
Nicole: You heard me, why are you acting like your something big your worthless bag of filth
Carla: Oh so big mannn decides to speak up now yeaah, just get out of here before I do
some real harm
Nicole: Oh I get it, the truth hurts does it..
Carla: What are you on about you Canker?
Carla looks at the other inmates smiling and shaking her left and right
Nicole: well I don’t know my dearest friend why don’t you tell me, or hows about you tell
everyone here how messed up that mind of yours is, how you lied in court about me knowing that
you were going to stab Kate....
Nicole’s tone in voice changes to a much softer and hurtful tone
Nicole: How you tricked your best and only friend for a selfish and stupid reason and yet i
didn’t think anything bad in it cus you meant everything to me and I would do anything I can for you
Carla: Your actually the Stupid one...you knew how much he meant to me ... how can some
random nobody comes along and decide to try it with my man, I thought you would understand.
Nicole: I guess what we were has really gone well You know what I thank god I don’t see you
in the same way , cus im doing so much better without you.
Nicole turns around to walk away when Carla mutters a comment about her
Carla: I always was the stronger and better one, even when we were little girls, people will
never change.
Nicole forgets about everything that just happens and thinks about the last words Carla just said
and turns around, leaping onto Carla from behind. Here both Carla and Nicole are fighting and
ripping, scratching and punching each other on the floor.
Nicole: That’s it, you wanna piece of me..WATCH!
3. Inmates are now gathered around shouting and cheering at both girls on the floor.
Both Guards now re-enter the hall, realising what is happening and running in at the same time
calling for back up.
Mr Watson: EVERYONE GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY
Watson grabs Carla and Borris grabs Nicole
Borris: Both of you cut it out... And you Yasminn come with me now...NOW
The three girls are separated and taken away- the three characters exit the scene with the Watson
and Borris, while the rest of the guards run in Pushing and telling the rest of the inmates to go
back to their cell.
Once everyone else has exited the stage, the three girls are walking back in this time handcuffed
with Mr Watson standing in front and Borris at the back being led to their cell.
One by one they are let into their individual cells (which are right next to each other)
Mr Watson: Well after your clever moves you guys are locked up in there till tomorrow, no Free
time you disgraceful Idiots...
Borris: Yeaah (tutting at them)
Both Guards leave the three Women who are sitting thinking and looking down. Thats where the
song starts.
