Quality Center has been the most widely adopted test management solution in the market to date, but times are changing with the completed acquisition by Micro Focus. Unfortunately, Micro Focus’ published 4-year plan focuses on profits and cost cutting, meaning a shift away from innovation and customer service.
Join us to learn how QASymphony champions the modern tester, as we highlight our 3-year strategic plan. We’ll highlight customers who have successful made the switch from Quality Center to qTest and share our experience migrating dozens of customers from HP Quality Center, following best practices for making a smooth transition into the next generation of test management.
Jay Luker will be presenting an introduction to Ghost Inspector, a cloud-based web UI testing service that takes some (some!) of the pain away from creating browser-based, web application tests. Think Selenium, but for projects that are short on the resources, infrastructure and/or coding expertise to confidently develop and manage a suite of fully automated, “good-enough” UI tests.
Jay is a Senior Software Engineer at Harvard DCE where he works on back-end applications and software for analytics data collection, deployment automation, and integration testing for the Extension School’s video processing and delivery system. Previously he has been an IT Specialist at the Smithsonian Astrophysics Data System, and a Software Developer at Ex Libris.

Easy Setup for Parallel Test Execution with Selenium DockerSargis Sargsyan
Parallel execution of test cases is one of the important requirements of a modern test automation framework.
Generally, to run Selenium Suite in parallel, we use selenium grid and distributing tests across multiple machines which will reduce the time required for running tests. To run tests in parallel, we need to configure Selenium Grid with Hub and Nodes where the hub is the central point which will receive test requests along with configurations or capabilities. Based on the request received, the hub will distribute tests to the registered nodes.
Selenium has made a set of Docker images which are available on Docker Hub. We have Selenium Grid, and the browser images - Chrome and Firefox. There are also images with the debug versions which will let as view the test execution.
In this session, we will go through the Selenium tests parallel run setup and configuration.
A quick start guide to start working with Robot Framework.
End to End flow form installation to test case automation to verifying result, using both GUI and Command Prompt options.

How to Implement Micro Frontend Architecture using Angular FrameworkRapidValue
Micro-frontends are small applications mostly divided by subdomain or functionality working together to deliver a larger application. Sometimes your frontend app might be a small part of another big application or your app consists a lot of sections and features which are developed by different teams or your app is being released into production feature by feature with developed by separate teams. If you are in one of these situations then you need to think about Micro Frontends. For more information visit: https://www.rapidvaluesolutions.com/
Nomad is popular as an efficient, lightweight container orchestrator. But a truly efficient, lightweight deployment environment can only be built on a minimal Linux that is designed specifically for running containers.
In this talk, we introduce Flatcar Container Linux to the Hashicorp/Nomad community. Already well known and widely deployed by Kubernetes users, Flatcar works just as well – or perhaps even better! – for Nomad.
Flatcar Container Linux is a secure, immutable, auto-updating, lightweight Linux operating system. This makes Flatcar a perfect match for Linux containers running on Nomad: nodes will update automatically and stay secure in a simple way, without the administrator having to do the heavy lifting.
This talk will explain best practices for deploying Nomad on Flatcar and demonstrate a Nomad cluster running on Flatcar.
Introduction to Spock: A Unit Testing FrameworkKnoldus Inc.
When it comes to true unit tests, having a mocking framework such as Spock for Java is essential. Using a mocking framework ensures that your unit tests are fast, self-contained, and deterministic. A mocking framework can help you fake external systems, pre-program your classes with expected responses, and test hard-to-replicate error conditions.
In this, we will cover the Spock testing framework, an emerging framework that can be used to test both Java and Groovy code. Unlike Mockito, Spock is a complete testing framework that can function on its own (Mockito works in addition to JUnit).
You’ll understand:
~ How Spock tests leverage existing JUnit infrastructure
~ Spock annotations and where they apply
~ Spock mocks and stubs and how to take advantage of them
And you’ll be able to:
~ Set up test fixtures
~ Run testing methods before and after tests and test classes
~ Mock classes and interfaces set expectations, and validate them
The Test Automation Pyramid is a useful model to help us understand and discuss automated testing efforts. Generally speaking it is a good practice to have lots of unit tests, fewer component integration tests, fewer API tests, and even fewer UI tests.
This presentation will introduce you to Container, Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) with a live demo. This also explains Kubernetes basic concepts such as Pod, Deployment, Service, Ingress, and Rolling Update.

HOW AND WHY GRAALVM IS QUICKLY BECOMING RELEVANT FOR YOULucas Jellema
Starting a Java application as fast as any executable with a memory footprint rivaling the most lightweight runtime engines is quickly becoming a reality, through Graal VM and ahead of time compilation. This in turn is a major boost for using Java for microservice and especially serverless scenarios. For a long time GraalVM seemed merely an exotic research project in an Oracle lab. However, things are moving fast now. A production ready GraalVM release is available – so we can start to leverage its goodness.
Microservice frameworks like Quarkus fully leverage GraalVM – and Spring is rapidly embracing it as well. The second major pillar of GraalVM is its polyglot capability: it can run code in several languages – JVM and non-JVM such as JavaScript/ES, Python, Ruby, R or even your own DSL. More importantly still: GraalVM enables code running in one language to interoperate with code in another language. Forget Rhino and Nashorn: Java to JavaScript interaction is so much better on GraalVM. Want to leverage Python libraries from Java? Or a C++ routine? GraalVM supports many and increasingly more forms of interoperability.
This session introduces GraalVM, its main capabilities and especially its practical applicability – now and in the near future. There are demonstrations of ahead of time compilation and use of Java based serverless functions with tiny run times and ultrafast startup. Quarkus and Apache Camel on Graal VM are shown and examples are presented of runtime interoperability of various non-JVM languages with Java.
This session aims to shed some light on an emerging test automation tool, Cypress. Cypress resolves many of the test automation problems that a QA or a dev may face in UI Web Automation testing. And after a walkthrough, we will compare cypress with Selenium as well.

The 3 Pillars of Remote Application DevelopmentJenna Starmer
Application development is already challenging in the best of times, so how can you handle it when your entire development team is suddenly working from home? According to a Gartner survey, 88 percent of companies have encouraged or required employees to work from home since March 2020.
Unfortunately, this has set too many AppDev teams adrift, unprepared for the new normal of telecommuting. Some businesses have adopted stopgap solutions that aren’t sustainable in the long run, while others are feeling the pinch of tightened budgets and stressed employees. If you’ve got challenges here too, we can help.
Watch the hour-long webinar where we’ll discuss the three essential factors that separate the high achieving remote application development teams from those struggling to adapt.

AWS re:Invent 2016: Lift and Evolve – Saving Money in the Cloud is Easy, Maki...Amazon Web Services
Every enterprise knows by now that it can save money by simply lifting and shifting workloads to the cloud, but many are missing the larger opportunity to also make money by moving. While quick costs savings are good for the bottom line, they do little to move the top line numbers. To achieve both savings and earnings, corporate thinking about technologies must change in order to enable faster processes leveraged enterprise-wide. In this session we will explore multiple customer success stories where the customers have evolved from leveraging basic compute and storage products (EC2 and S3) to integrating new services into operations by leveraging Lambda, DynamoDB, CodeDeploy, etc. Once this is achieved, enterprises are enabled to manage and deploy code rapidly in a programmatic and elastic secure network, ensuring governance and security standards across the globe. We will look at the migration process trusted by hundreds of clients as well as how to cope with the process and people components that are so important to enable agility, while focusing heavily on the technology. The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) and 2nd Watch story will dive deep into the technology that allows TCCC to manage hundreds of AWS Accounts, hundreds of workloads, thousands of instances, and hundreds of business partners around the globe. TCCC’s Configuration Management System has Puppet at the core and relies on over a dozen core and emerging AWS products across accounts, availability zones and regions. This complex and globally-available system ensures all of TCCC’s workloads in AWS meet corporate policies but also allows for rapid scale of both consumer and enterprise workloads. Session sponsored by 2nd Watch.

Using Lean Thinking to identify and address Delivery Pipeline bottlenecks: This session explores 'Lean Thinking' techniques to help identify 'bottlenecks' in your delivery pipeline that can be addressed by adopting DevOps
The idea behind DevOps is to demolish the wall between development and operations, and encourage more collaboration and accountability between both groups so that everyone feels responsible for the code no matter where it is in the software development lifecycle. For better understanding of DevOps, we have answered the 5Ws of DevOps.
Value stream management is essential for dev ops v4DevOps.com
Join us for a live webinar on December 13th to learn why you can’t have effective DevOps without Value Stream Management.
While DevOps provides capabilities that improve a business value stream through the implementation of culture, toolchains, orchestration and automation, DevOps alone without Value Stream Management is not sufficient to realize business benefits.
Don’t spend the time and money on DevOps alone and NOT get to reap the rewards for the business!
Attend this webinar to hear Marc Hornbeek of Trace3, and Jeff Keyes of Plutora discuss how you can leverage all of the data from your DevOps tools chains to provide real-time analytics, and codify policies that must be orchestrated to realize benefits of a business value stream.

Manual Testing is Dead. Long Live Manual TestingQASymphony
‘Manual testing’ as a term used to describe testing is extremely confusing. What exactly are they attempting to describe? What do people believe is happening? I believe ‘Manual testing’ displays a lack of consideration of the work, thinking, and effort that goes into testing. However, this depends on who is using the term and why. If testing consists of point and click, then ‘Manual testing’ may be apt. If testing consists of test ideas, prep and experimentation, I don’t believe the term ‘Manual testing’ suits. We need to address this and clarify there is no automation testing or manual testing. There is testing. This talk will be about testing and the need to be able to discuss it more clearly.
How do you address an organisations’ “quality problem”? Mark will be talking about his role as Head of Quality at Cambridge Assessment and exploring how he is approaching getting the answers to that very question.
Moving QA from Reactive to Proactive with qTestQASymphony
An overview of QASymphony's qTest product suite and product roadmap, including how qTest continues to push forward in the areas of agile testing, exploratory testing, BDD, automation integration, quality metrics and applied AI for testing, and how QASymphony is working to help test teams transition from reactive to proactive QA.
Over the course of my career I’ve reviewed the performance of countless software testing organizations, test teams, and testers looking for ways we can improve. Typically, the first suggestion when asked "how can we improve the state of testing here", usually relates to something that OTHER people should do. Very few people or teams take an introspective approach to improvement based on their own values and principles. Through this talk, I’ll share the review model and heuristics I use to identify things that are working and areas for improvement including efficiency, process improvement, and aligning your test approach for relevance to your business.
You’re an introvert. You do your best work when you can think a problem through alone in a quiet space. You express yourself better in writing or when you have a heads up before a meeting. But your company is cool! So your office resembles a sweatshop: large rows of desks squished into a concrete room with minimal sound deadening. And you company culture encourages team work! So anyone can call you or stop by your desk with immediate requests of varying levels of emergency. You’re always being put on the spot, only later to think of who would be best qualified to answer the question, what a better solution might be, or where an inefficiency could be eliminated. In my talk, I’ll frame my learnings from Quiet by Susan Cain and Introvert Power by Laurie Helgoe with personal experiences about how to function effectively in offices unfriendly to introverts. I’ll explore how American culture rewards those who speak the most over those who have something to say.
Learn how TUI UK&I selected qTest as their preferred replacement Test Tool to meet their current and future Enterprise Testing challenges. How they successfully implemented qTest and where they hope to be in 12 months’ time.

BIZDEVOPS – DELIVERING BUSINESS VALUE QUICKLY AT SCALE
65+% of surveyed organizations are currently on the path to switch to DevOps or have already implemented the process, and the benefits of a properly implemented DevOps program are clear – quicker time to customer value, better alignment between businesses and customers, and a better ability to respond to customer input. However, when it comes to DevOps adoption, many teams rush to focus on one specific issue within one area when they would actually benefit more from aligning business, development, testing, and operations up front. The five major problems in DevOps adoption include:
Lack of Test Automation Coverage
Lack of Visibility into Testing
Maintaining Various Test Versions and Aligning Tests with Versions of Source Code
Maintaining a Single Source of Truth in the Testing Process
Understanding Where Business Value Currently is in the “BizDevOps” Pipeline
After helping hundreds of customers in their DevOps journeys, these three industry experts will cover these major problems, as well as innovative strategies to overcome them:

Quality Jam 2017: Paul Merrill "Machine Learning & How it Affects Testers"QASymphony
Machine Learning is all the rage. Companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are investing extreme sums of money into their ML budgets. But what is it, and more importantly, how will it affect me, as a tester? Last year, Paul was at a testing conference where a group of 5 executives decreed adamantly that ML would replace testers within the next few years. Anytime 5 executives agree on anything he questions it. So he wanted to learn if they were right. Over the last few months, Paul has researched and learned about ML. He's talked with industry experts in the field and testers with expertise in ML. He wanted to know what they had to say about this decree. He wanted to know, "is testing in danger of being automated by ML?"
Paul Merrill talks about what he's found in his research, provides an introduction to ML, and give info to decide for yourself if the future of testing will be in the hands of ML algorithms.

Developing Distributed High-performance Computing Capabilities of an Open Sci...Globus
COVID-19 had an unprecedented impact on scientific collaboration. The pandemic and its broad response from the scientific community has forged new relationships among public health practitioners, mathematical modelers, and scientific computing specialists, while revealing critical gaps in exploiting advanced computing systems to support urgent decision making. Informed by our team’s work in applying high-performance computing in support of public health decision makers during the COVID-19 pandemic, we present how Globus technologies are enabling the development of an open science platform for robust epidemic analysis, with the goal of collaborative, secure, distributed, on-demand, and fast time-to-solution analyses to support public health.
Code reviews are vital for ensuring good code quality. They serve as one of our last lines of defense against bugs and subpar code reaching production.
Yet, they often turn into annoying tasks riddled with frustration, hostility, unclear feedback and lack of standards. How can we improve this crucial process?
In this session we will cover:
- The Art of Effective Code Reviews
- Streamlining the Review Process
- Elevating Reviews with Automated Tools
By the end of this presentation, you'll have the knowledge on how to organize and improve your code review proces

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.
Enterprise Resource Planning System includes various modules that reduce any business's workload. Additionally, it organizes the workflows, which drives towards enhancing productivity. Here are a detailed explanation of the ERP modules. Going through the points will help you understand how the software is changing the work dynamics.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
