AN INTELLIGENT REAL-TIME WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK TRACKING SYSTEM FOR MONITORI...ijassn
The advancement of wireless sensor networks yields a variety of wireless sensor network for wildlife tracking. One typical application for wireless sensor networks is in animal tracking and monitoring in wildlife environments. A significant number of studies have been done in tracking animals with sensor networks. However from the recent literature it is observed that there is no much study has been done on an intelligent real time sensor network that is capable to alerting the rangers an incidence of animal poaching before it happened. In this paper an intelligent wireless sensor system for tracking and monitoring rhinos and elephants is proposed.

Desert Locust threat to West Africa (144th FAO Council, 12 June 2012)FAO
Desert Locust lives in the deserts of Africa and SW Asia. They need good rains to reproduce and increase in number. This is exactly what occurred along both sides Algerian/Libyan border. Good rains fell late last year and locusts have been breeding and increasing during the past six months. Normally Algeria and Libya are able to control the locusts, stop swarms from forming and prevent their movement south to the Sahel in W Africa. Insecurity this year does not allow full access to infested areas by ground teams (Algeria estimated they could reach only 15% of potentially infested areas). Libyan capacity to carry out control efforts has been affected in the past year. Although both countries carried out control operations, they could not prevent swarms from forming in May.
The Giraffe Centre Nature Trail boasts a thriving population of more than 70 bird species. In our ongoing quest to understand and preserve the natural world, it has become crucial to meticulously document the avian diversity within our sanctuary. This entails not only cataloging the various bird species and their habitats but also delving into the intricacies of their environments. Most importantly, we aim to involve and educate eager learners in this enlightening process. Herein lies the account of our inaugural bird ringing expedition at the Giraffe Centre Sanctuary.

This study entitle propose strategies to enhance the biodiversity status and traditional knowledge systems relevant for the conservation of Pan troglodytes ellioti was undertaken in the Kimbi-Fungom National Park (KWFR) and Kom-Wum Forest Reserve (KWFR) Northwest region of Cameroon. The main objective was to investigate sustainable tactics that will contribute to trim down pressure on Pan troglodytes ellioti and other flagship species around the study areas. Data collections were undertaken with the help of interviewed administered questionnaires, informal interview using interview guide, group discussion and direct observations activities. Following interviewees response, sixty eight (68%) of the respondents were confident that they could take up effective management of the K-FNP and K-WFR. Equally, 92% of respondents agreed to the fact that increasing population, poverty increment, insufficient modern health facilities, influx of new cultural activities due to loss of traditional taboos and totemic beliefs, remains greater threat to chimpanzees in the study areas. Most of the interviewees (74%) agreed that updating of knowledge on the abundance and distribution of chimpanzee, identifying location of all human activities especially huts, farms, shortcuts and illegal market in the park/reserve through regular patrols with eco-guards to reinforce order and ensure a better protection for chimpanzees is vital. Much more, 95% of respondent accepted the fact that old and new traditional knowledge of conservation such as taboos/law, totemic beliefs, sacred forests, royal species, automatic spiritual sanction, harvesting seasons should be revived and encourage through traditional institutions/council to better protect chimpanzees. Furthermore, 85% of interviewees accepted the suggestion that to get rid of poor traditional practices that uses chimpanzee’s body parts/meat for medicine and rituals, can be replace with goats, sheep, pig, fouls body parts/meat. To reduce over dependent and conflicts on chimpanzees products and other natural resources, 97% of the respondents were in favour that income generating micro-projects such as fish farming, animal rearing, and market gardening should be promoted. Providing jobs through ecotourism activities such as forest clearance and excursions, construction of adequate and equip infrastructures were highly welcome by 99% of interviewees. To attain all these, regular conservation educational programmes in schools, meeting places and in “ngumba” houses should be promoted to well sensitize population on chimpanzee’s conservation.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Greater Limpopo Trans-frontier Conservation Area (Kruger, Gonarezhou)
GACF Executive Summary:
The GES Group (GES) is the sponsor of the GES Africa Conservation Fund
(GACF). GES operates the leading Wildlife Management and Conservation
Group in Africa and protects the largest private Rhino population in the world with
over 1,500 Rhinos under direct protection. GES is also increasingly concerned
about the significant rise in poaching of Elephants in Sub-Saharan Africa, which
must be mitigated with the Anti-Poaching Helicopter Support.
GES Website: http://neahgesafrica.com/
GACF is a non-profit entity dedicated to protecting and preserving both Africa’s
and the world’s most endangered species. GACF was established as a direct
response to international wildlife exploitation and poaching. Organized crime
within the wildlife arena is crippling the animal populations as well as severely
changing the face of conservation. GES applies specialized anti-poaching
operations, general security, and intelligence services. “GES has a social
responsibility to give back to the African Continent” and GACF reflects this
support.

GACF ANTI-POACHING HELICOPTER APPEAL FOR DONATIONS
Executive Summary:
The plight of the Rhino and other endangered species is no new topic and
certainly needs no further introduction. Neither is the seriousness of the situation
a matter for dispute. Recent months has seen poaching escalate from Rhino to
Elephant and Lion populations.
Case in Point: The fight for the future of the Rhino will be held on the Private
Nature Reserves. Over forty-five (45) percent of the remaining White Rhino are
under the care of Private Nature Reserves and Breeders.
It is, therefore, essential that poachers are apprehended and poached articles
recovered even after these animals have been killed. This would not bring back
the animal, but the recovery of the merchandise starves the poaching cartels of
funds, funds that are being used to grow their criminal empires. With each horn
or tusk that leaves the borders of South Africa, the poaching rings become
exponentially more powerful and better equipped, elevating the problem to the
point where they will become unstoppable.
The Great Elephant Census, led by the nonprofit Elephants without Borders,
conducted an aerial survey of 18 African countries. Results indicated that in 15
of those, 144,000 elephants were lost to ivory poaching and habitat destruction
in less than a decade.
It is clear that the Elephant poaching crisis has moved from East and Central
Africa and is threatening Southern Africa. The countries with the greatest
losses were Tanzania and Mozambique, with a combined loss of 73,000
elephants to poaching in just five years. South Africa’s Elephants are at
substantial risk.
The majority of National Parks have inadequate quick response ability and
individual reserves are unable to finance a high-value asset such as an
Anti-Poaching helicopter, not to mention the fact that they would also need
to develop the in-house capability to use these tools effectively in anti-
poaching operations.
GACF Anti-Poaching Paradigm Shift:
GACF offers an integrated approach to anti-poaching with a turnkey service
solution to overcome the conservation challenges faced by the Nature Reserves
and National Parks. GACF offer a quick response force by helicopter that can
service any number of reserves with an immediate capability to supplement their
existing anti-poaching teams.
4. RhinoAndFriends@gesafricafund.com March 2017 http://gesafricafund.com
Helicopters are force multipliers and while they cannot replace the Rangers on
the ground they provide them a quick response time and maneuverability that is
otherwise unobtainable. This minimizes the poachers’ opportunities for escape.
The cornerstone of this operation’s success is the helicopter’s availability to all
Nature reserves in the area, thereby alleviating the financial burden of an Anti-
Poaching Helicopter on the individual reserves.
GACF provides an effective anti-poaching aviation based reaction force, by
ensuring mobility and quick response. This project enhances the entire anti -
poaching effort in the greater Kruger Nature Reserves.
GACF intends to contribute a minimum of 30 flying hours per month towards the
operating cost of an Anti-Poaching Helicopter. These hours are then awarded to
the reserves participating in the Greater Kruger/Mozambique area at a greatly
reduced cost. This significantly enhances the ability of the reserves to:
Protect Endangered Animals From Being Poached
Apprehend Poaching Suspects
Provide Cohesive Cooperation Between the Private Nature Reserves, the
Kruger Park and Law Enforcement
Summary Budget:
ITEM DETAIL
ANNUAL
AMOUNT
Pilot Salaries 2 pilots required for day standby $200,000.00
Helicopter MI2 Helicopter $350,000.00
Fuel Fuel per Month $200,000.00
Facilities Hanger/Storage and crew room facilities $40,000.00
Insurance On all assets $15,000.00
Equipment Technology/Service on Helo $200,000.00
TOTAL 12 Month Budget $~ 1,000,000.00
Project Details:
Aim: Provide a quick response aviation platform supporting all anti-poaching
operations in the Greater Kruger Nature Reserve(s) / Mozambique area, thereby
integrating the anti-poaching effort to eradicate Elephant poaching.
5. RhinoAndFriends@gesafricafund.com March 2017 http://gesafricafund.com
Objectives:
Provide a quick response aviation platform for the reserves 365 days per
year
Provide the backbone required to operate a helicopter effectively
Provide a response team on standby to assist Rangers when required
Train all Rangers in helicopter operations to ensure any ranger can
respond with the helicopter
Provide an operations room to coordinate the entire anti-poaching entity
Provide proper ground to ground and ground to air communications
Evidence of importance and relevant background info on the project:
After extensive participation in the anti-poaching environment, it has become
evident that efforts on the ground, although extensive and vitally important, are
not sufficient to ensure the survival of the Elephant.
Rangers spend hours on foot tracking poachers only for them to escape under
the cover of darkness. Once an animal is poached (killed) and de-horned/de-
tusked there is minimal time available to effect arrest and quick response is
imperative. The field of operations is too large and its’ borders too porous to be
effectively patrolled on foot. Having a helicopter quick response team deployable
at any stage enables GACF to deploy “Stopper Groups” in the Bush ahead or
behind the advance of the poachers. A response team can also be delivered
directly to an incident with the required recourse to ensure an effective arrest and
prevent the death of an animal.
How will the project be undertaken to meet its aim?
This project will ensure that the required resources are available when and where
they are needed and when it’s needed to affect an arrest. It will ensure air
support to all the Greater Kruger Nature Reserves/Mozambique, as none of them
are capable of funding air support on their own.
What does Project Condor Involve?
For the project to be successful the following are critical support resources:
Command and Control Center (Operations Room)
Communication Systems and Lines of Communication
Available Quick Reaction Force
6. RhinoAndFriends@gesafricafund.com March 2017 http://gesafricafund.com
