The Problem
Save the Rhinos
During 2014, in South Africa alone a
staggering 1,215 rhinos were killed by
poachers, that’s one every eight hours.
An average a parks scale is 20,000 Km which is
very hard for rangers to control such a large
scale and is badly communicated over the
day/night

Challenge
To come up with an innovative idea to
physcially stop poachers and save the
Rhinos

Research
There are three main parks in South Africa
where Poachers kill for Rhinos
Rangers are not fully equipped and don't
make it on time to capture the poachers
and need more sufficent equipement
South African Deapartment of Enviromental
Affairs says: "Law enforcement plays a
crucial role in deterring poachers, however
there is no single answer to combat the
current poaching crisis. A multi-faceted
approach is required including ongoing
anti-poaching and monitoring patrols,
community conservation and environmental
education schemes, captive breeding,
translocations and demand reduction
projects in Asia"

Research
Rhino poaching has reached a crisis point,
and if the killing continues at this rate, we
could see rhino deaths overtaking births in
2016-2018, meaning rhinos could go
extinct in the very near future.
Rangers do not feel safe with the current
equipment they have

Drones are used in the military to detect
bad movement on the ground. They are
equipped with cameras and sensors which
can give rangers a birds eye view of what’s
happening and have the ability to
surveillance a large scale and
communicate to ground level
