Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and filmmaker known for his innovative movie title sequences and film posters from the 1950s-1960s. He used simple geometric shapes and minimalist designs to set the mood of films, differing from typical posters showing celebrities. His work, inspired by Bauhaus and Russian constructivism, encouraged active viewer participation. Bass' title sequences for films like "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" and "The Man with the Golden Arm" influenced many to see them as a new art form within films.
