2016 KS2 SATs Timetable
Monday 9th May - Thursday 12th May
2. 2016 KS2 SATs Timetable
Monday 9th May - Thursday 12th May
• During SATs week the children will be able to come into school from
8:30am so that they can settle in class and relax before the day
begins.
• We encourage all children to bring in a healthy snack to enjoy before
the morning tests begin.
• Children will then head to their usual Literacy and Numeracy groups so
that they are in familiar surroundings for their tests.
• We strongly encourage children to come in for their SATs tests even
if they are feeling a little under the weather (within reason). If your
child is unwell and just comes in to take their test before heading
home afterwards that would be fine.
3. Reading Test
Monday 11th May
• The children will have one hour to work through the booklet at their
own pace. There are 3 texts, each with accompanying questions.
• The answer booklet contains different types of questions, focusing
on a range of techniques. Such as ….
4. Grammar, Punctuation and
Spelling Test
Tuesday 10th May
.
• The children have 45 minutes to complete the Grammar and
Punctuation test.
• Unlike the reading tests the adults can support the children by
reading the questions to them if requested.
• The Grammar and Punctuation test consists of 40 – 50 questions in a
variety of formats.
• The spelling test is taken immediately afterwards and consists of
twenty sentences which are read aloud to the pupils. Each sentence
has a word missing which the pupil must then fill in.
5. .
Maths Paper 1 and 2
Wednesday 11th May & Thursday
12th May
The new Mathematics assessment system consists of
3 tests: Arithmetic, Reasoning 1 and Reasoning 2.
• There is no longer a mental mathematics test
• There is no longer a calculator paper
• A pupil’s marks from all 3 tests will be aggregated to
calculate their overall mathematics level.
• Adults can support the children by reading the
questions to them if requested.

CGP Revision books
We recommend the CGP revision guides for SATs revision. Each
book gives the children step by step support on specific areas of
the curriculum and the question book then allows them to test
themselves.
If you are interested in purchasing a book for your child then
please complete the order form before leaving.
We request that you allow us to choose the appropriate maths
books for your child based on the level that they are working
towards in school.
Maths study book and question
book – £4.95
SPAG SATs busters - £4.95
7. What can you do to help at
home?
• Encourage your child to revise regularly (little but
often).
• Prompt your child to practise basic skills (e.g., the
times tables and the 4 operations).
• Support your child with selecting appropriate
areas to work on and finding relevant resources.
• Help your child to get a good night’s sleep in
advance of the tests and a healthy breakfast on
the day.
8. What can you do to help at
home?
• Maths: times table games, problem solving (recipes,
shopping, measurement, etc.)
• Grammar: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs- find any
excuse to talk about them!
• Reading: not just reading, but discussing books,
characters, settings, themes and authors. How is this
character similar to another you know?’ ‘Can you
find a quote in the book that shows?’
9. .
What will the children need to bring?
We will provide all of the resources required for the
children to take the tests.
The children may wish to bring:
• A healthy snack
• A water bottle
• A pillow!
• One small lucky charm. This must not be too
valuable/delicate as it will be the child’s responsibility
to look after it.
• PE kits to be brought in every day.
10. .
Resources
Following this week’s tests, we will be issuing each child with
a revision pack. Each pack will contain a variety of resources
targeting the areas in which your child needs to improve.
We will also supply each of the following documents:
•Revision tips
•Practice test materials
•A glossary of terms for the grammar and punctuation test
•A glossary of terms for the Mathematics tests.
•A suggested spelling list.
•School website: useful links and access to the Sample
