  1. 1. Welcome to Mrs. Bassett’s 5th grade class Thank you for sending your child to MPH and letting me be a part of his/her life.

  3. 3. My Philosophy <ul><li>Train a child up in the ways he should go (Proverb 22:6) </li></ul><ul><li>To whom much is given, much is expected (Luke 12:48). Therefore all students should be treated fairly, but not necessarily equally. If your child has special needs, please let me know now. </li></ul><ul><li>Self esteem is built by being skillful, appreciated, and responsible. </li></ul>

How to help your child be successful <ul><li>Healthy breakfast, </li></ul><ul><li>Nine (9) hours or more of sleep, </li></ul><ul><li>No chaos at home…provide routines and family time. </li></ul><ul><li>Garbage in from the media- garbage out from your child, </li></ul><ul><li>One hour of study time with no distractions each night whether your student says s/he has homework or not. </li></ul><ul><li>You've got 4 years left to fill the reservoir from which you will draw good will for the next 7 years </li></ul>

Practice as suggested on sheet </li></ul><ul><li>. Laminated Practice Set - Practice a letter set until your child can do the problems in one minute </li></ul>

  26. 27. Becoming a contestant <ul><li>Math contest - Students choosing to participate can get study guides. Those who do best on the class test will represent class at the March competition. </li></ul><ul><li>Spelling Bee - Students choosing to participate will all be given the same words. The two who miss the least will represent the class. </li></ul><ul><li>Geography Bee - Students choosing to participate will all be given the same test. The two who miss the least will represent the class. </li></ul><ul><li>Tar Wars Poster - All students start their posters in class Posters. </li></ul>2007-MPHM had 1st and 3rd place winners in the state
  27. 28. Science Fair <ul><li>In March </li></ul><ul><li>Every child must do an EXPERIMENT, not a demonstration </li></ul><ul><li>Only work with another student if it can be done outside of school time </li></ul>
  28. 29. FYI <ul><li>Lunch visits- Students have quiet lunch until 11:00. If you would like to have lunch with your child, you may use an empty table by the serving line to visit. </li></ul><ul><li>Appointments-The best time for appointments is during lunch10:45-11:30, or after 2:30. </li></ul>

Dress Code <ul><li>Uniforms- The purpose is to “foster self-respect, modesty and appropriate behavior which enhance a positive Christian image..” Students may wear only uniform bottoms and shirts . Skirts /shorts must be no shorter the 2” above the knee. Shirts must be tucked ” while on parish grounds”. Any bottoms that have loops must have a belt worn with it.. Only solid colored socks that compliment the uniforms are to be worn. </li></ul>
