Satire Essays On Smoking
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Satire Essays on Smoking" can present both challenges and
opportunities for creativity. While satire allows for a playful and humorous exploration of a
serious topic like smoking, striking the right balance between wit and conveying a meaningful
message can be a delicate task.
Firstly, one must navigate the thin line between humor and sensitivity, as smoking is a health
concern affecting many individuals. It's crucial to avoid offending or alienating readers while
still using satire to shed light on the absurdities associated with smoking culture.
The challenge lies in weaving a narrative that combines humor with a poignant critique of the
tobacco industry, societal attitudes towards smoking, and the impact on public health. Finding
the right tone to engage readers in a lighthearted manner while addressing the serious
consequences of smoking demands a careful approach.
Furthermore, crafting effective satire requires a deep understanding of the target audience. What
might be amusing to one group could be offensive to another, so the essay must be tailored to
resonate with the intended readership.
Research becomes a vital component, as a well-informed essay can employ facts and statistics to
enhance the satirical elements. This blend of humor and factual information not only entertains
but also educates the audience on the harms of smoking.
In the end, writing a satire essay on smoking demands a delicate dance between humor and
responsibility. It involves understanding the audience, researching the subject thoroughly, and
employing creativity to deliver a compelling narrative.

What Does Girl On Fire Mean
Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys is an empowering song wrote to emphasize the strength
in women of all jobs. Alicia Keys, who has always promoted female empowerment,
wrote this song to explain how she was feeling in a woman in this society. Within the
song and the music video, the song talks about a women who really has the typical
femalejob. She is a mom who takes care of her kids, cleans, and really runs the
household. The message, however is not shaming women who are in this role.
Instead, the song speaks of how women are strong no matter what role they play in
the world. Keys speaks about how we live in this world where women are so
oppressed, but because we are so strong, we are going to stand our ground and fight
for what we believe in
Federal Bail Reform Movement
The United States Pretrial Services is a Federal Judicial System. This system
provides more information about defendants in a small timely matter, to assist the
court in making release and detention decisions. The Federal Bail Reform Act of
1966 was primarily focused in making this decision fairer and rational on the release
of defendants on the least and restrictive conditions that would assure the defendants
appearance at trial when required. The Bail Reform Act eliminates the courts
reliance on money as the sole purposed of pretrial release. The release and detention
must be base sole based in nonappearance or danger risk. Therefore, the United States
Pretrial Services as intended by Congress, provides judicial officers with verified and

I have written formal bail reports from a handwritten report, filled out forms for
illegal immigrants, open files into their program (PACTS) and follow up with
defendant s third party custodian to check if they have any problems or changes to

this internship will help me overcome it before it is over. To be in a Law

communicate with others. I definitely recommend this internship for Criminal Justice
students who are interested to learn about the federal system and would like to get

them after the internship is over. I believe students should know more about the

Foreword
This little volume (the result of meditation and experience) is not intended as an
exhaustive treatise on the much written upon subject of the power of thought. It is
suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to
the discovery and perception of the truth that
They themselves are makers of themselves
by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master
weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance,
and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now
weave in enlightenment and happiness.

Such is the conscious master, and man can only thus become by discovering within
himself the laws of thought; which discovery is totally a matter of application, self
analysis, and experience.
Only by much searching and mining are gold an diamonds obtained, and man can
find every truth connected with his being if he will dig deep into the mine of his
soul. And that he is the maker of his character, the molder of his life, and the builder
of his destiny, he may unerringly prove: if he will watch, control, and alter his
thoughts, tracing their effects upon himself, upon others, and upon his life and
circumstances; if he will link cause and effect by patient practice and investigation,
utilizing his every experience, even to the most trivial, as a means of obtaining that
knowledge of himself. In this direction, as in no other, is the law absolute that He
that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened ; for only by
patience, practice, and ceaseless importunity can a man enter the Door of the Temple
of Knowledge.

Effect of Thought on Circumstances

The Basics of Toilet Training Essay
The process of toilet training may be considered the most challenging process that
parents encounter with their child during the early stages of his or life. Toilet training
can be described as an individualized developmental process that all children will
progress at their own developmental pace and temperament, not the child s
chronological age. Toilettraining should be a natural result of the child s
developmental readiness. Therefore the primary goal can only be achieved when the
child is ready and willing. Just like any learning process for a child, including toilet
training, it effects the development of the whole child and it is important that the
child has the necessary physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills to begin....

During the toilet training process, a child must obtain body awareness and be able to
associate bodily sensation to the result that follows, poop or pee. Then after he
masters that skill he must acquire the certain skills that will allow him to picture what
he wants to do (use the toilet), create a plan to get here, begin using it, and remain in
place long enough to finish, which requires both memory and concentration
(Wolraich 26). The next and probably most difficult readiness sign a parent must
recognize before starting the toilet training process is emotional growth.
There are many emotional issues that can greatly affect toilet training that include
a eagerness for independence, a child s need for control, testing of rules and limits,
desire to win parents approval, and fears of toilet use. If a child resists the idea of
using the toilet when mentioned he may be experiencing an emotional issue and the
parent should wait for a better time to follow through with the process. If the child
is continually repeating signs of resistance a parent may want to rethink if it is too
soon to begin the process and understand that the child may be going through a
major change in the his life that is creating stress. Parents should know that it is not
the best time to toilet train when a new baby is expected soon or has recently
arrived, the family has newly moved, the child has just
Inside The Russian Revolution Analysis
Inside The Russian Revolution
By Alex Pearsall
Class of 2015
The Russian Revolutions, a series of revolts, coordinated by 3 very powerful men
part of a powerful group called the Bolsheviks, at a time when Russia future seems
uncertain. Men and women will fight for what they believe is the right government,
it will take only a couple of months for the entire Russian infrastructure to be torn
apart. A time when war wages on and hunger and sickness is at home, a time when
millions of lives are being taken by the war. But this time, citizens will not shrug it
off and go on with their lives. No, this time is different, this is the time of the Russian
Revolution.
Let s start with the beginning and why the Russian Revolution Began. People were

Instead Germany wanted Lenin to go to Russia and have Russia get out of the war to
help Germany. Then Germany sent Lenin on a locked train to Russia, where he
supposedly got money from Germany. This is why people thought Lenin was a
spy. Many people did not care though, the Bolsheviks did not care one bit and
neither, at this time, did the provisional government care as well. But to this day
we will never know the relationship between Lenin and the Germans. Now the
Bolsheviks were powerful and wanted very much to keep the way they set it up.
Then Lenin dies on January, 21, 1924, at exactly 6:30 pm. Now Joseph Stalin and
Leon Trotsky would have to decide who would take Lenin s place. Stalin forced
Trotsky in to exile and got rid of the threat for his power. Stalin would now be able
to mold Russia into whatever he would like. By 1928 Stalin is head of the
communist party. Lenin never wanted Stalin to get into power, calling him evil
and cold hearted. Stalin now had the power to become an absolute dictator, and he
took the opportunity at hand. Russia is now in the hands of a very terrible ruler,
Joseph Vladimir, or after he changed his name to Stalin, meaning man of steel. He
has gotten rid of the republic that was once Russia, and turned it into his country
and no one else s. Most of the Bolsheviks leaders are rounded up and killed by
Stalin during the great purge. He gets rid of every Bolsheviks idea for the
government, and makes up his own dictatorship called totalitarianism. Stalin caused
police terror, indoctrination, and censorship. The censorship that Stalin used
everything that was read or watched. He wanted the media to portray him as a hero,
kids would stand in front of their desks and say, thank comrade Stalin for this great
life. He also launched the great purge in 1937 which

phenomenal #growingupblack. The hashtag has become a fun way for the black
community to bond together and reminisce about childhood memories. Although, the
hashtag started on social media the statement of the hashtag #growingupblack has a
deeper message. In between the lines #growingupblack is a form of activism that is
continuously spreading with the help of social media. The hashtag #growingupblack
is the ultimate insider that the black community nationwide can relate too. The
hashtag growingupblack is self explanatory. The hashtag recounts the good, bad and
hilarious moments about the experiences of growing up black. Rather, it recounts the
time you went to the store and your mother told you not to touch nothing or that
memory when your mother warned you to be in the house before the streetlight came
on, it takes one down memory lane. For, many the hashtags brought back laughable
moments. This hashtag created rib tickling visuals (meme) of ones most precious

community to willingly embracing and accept, the things that may have been

The Impact Of Technology On The Civil War
Technology has not only significantly improved daily life, but it has also changed
warfare. In the 1860 s, controversies of the practice of slavery, westward expansion,
and political authorities caused high tensions between the Northern Union and the
Southern Confederacy. As the tensions built up, the Civil War began on April 12th,
1861 after the secession of the Southern states. Determining the independence of the
Confederacy and the fate of the Union, the Civil War was a period of major
technological transformation. In 1865, the Union officially won the Civil War with
advantages such as industrialization, a larger population, and most importantly,
technological innovations. Advancement in technology, such as the telegraph,
railroads, and rifles, effectively changed the Northern military strategies by
establishing a rapid network of communication, providing an efficient and safe
system of transportation, and improving the performance of the weapons. Unlike the
Confederacy army, the Union had the telegraph system that established a rapid
network of communication. Before the telegraph system, the Northern army had no
direct communication with the President, which led to unnecessary stagnation. For
instance, General in Chief, Winfield Scott, was so accepting of the tradition of being
unable to communicate rapidly with the front that he took a nap during the battle
(Wheeler). However, with the telegraph, President Lincoln was able to directly
communicate with the battlefield

Portrayal of Man in The Brothers Karamazov
Debauchery, dueling, infidelity, orgies, and even monastery life are all used to help
Fyodor Dostoevesky define his characters in The Brothers Karamazov. At the
beginning of the novel, the reader becomes filled with contempt for a few members
of the Karamazov family, yet filled with admiration for others. The legitimate
members of the Karamasov family each represent a separate aspect of human
character, which is applicable to society. In some ways the characters resemble
separate factions and cliques of society that most often argue, but together can be
productive. This is shown not by direct implication, but rather the reader discovers the

. . but yet he won t get a farthing from me. The wenches won t come to me of their
own accord, so I shall want my money (157). Every member of mankind must admit
that they too have an aspect within them that is much like Fyodor. There are times in
life when the thought of self is all consuming, and therefore one begins to act a part,
and care little for others well being.
Dmitri Fyodorovich Karamazov, the oldest son of Fyodor by his first wife,
characterizes stubbornness and pleasures of the flesh. In a search for happiness
and fulfillment, Dmitri s life consists of chasing women, drinking, fighting, and
gambling. Lacking his father s cool head for business, Dmitri, or Mitya as they call
him, is willing to spend any amount of money on items for pleasure. Aware of his
financial downfalls, Dmitri even admits With me money is an accessory, the
overflow of my heart, the framework. I threw away money by the handful on
music, rioting and gypsies (97). Knowing this, merchants take advantage of him,
and he remains almost constantly in debt. He is a very passionate character, always
acting in a situation before taking time to think things over. Living for the moment,
Dmitri fails to look for the big picture and lives life in the small picture to its fullest.
Speaking of his love, Dmitri states, I went to beat her, and I stayed (107). The

Analysis Of The Poem The Odyssey
Penelope is identified by relatively few epithets within the last six books of the
Odyssey, and indeed, throughout the poem. Her most common epithet is
circumspect, although she is also referred to as the respected wife of Odysseus and
the daughter of Ikarios with relative frequency as well. It is not until the end of the
poem, specifically Book Twenty Four, that Penelope gains a broader spectrum of
identifying epithets, including blameless and prudent (Homer, Odyssey24.194, 198).
Her identification as circumspect is important to the overall theme of
ОЅПЊПѓП„ОїП‚ (homecoming) in the Odyssey. In addition, the manner in which
she is described within the poem stays relatively stable until the last two books,
wherein Penelope gains greater depth as a female character when she is reunited with
her husband. Penelope, like most women, is identified through her male relatives, in
this case through her husband Odysseusand her father Ikarios. This is not an
uncommon style of epithets, even amongst the suitors. This is therefore not meant
to diminish her role as regent of Ithaka while Odysseus is away at war. However, it
should be noted that Penelope feels that her identity is controlled entirely by
Odysseus (Homer, Od. 18.251 255). Despite this, Penelope is very much her own
independent character, as is shown by her adept ability at stalling the suitors and
ruling as regent over Ithaka for the duration of Odysseus absence.
The most common epithet of Penelope is
Main Methods Of Measuring Astronomical Distances
Main methods of measuring astronomical distances:
Scientist used different type to find the astronomical distances. Cosmic distance
ladder is used to find the astronomical distances, which includes five different
methods to find the astronomical distances.
Radar ranging:
Radar ranging is used to find the distance of the planets which are near. This
method works by striking a beam of radio waves towards the object, the radio waves
after striking the object will come back as echo. So, the time taken by the radio
waves to come back in the form of echo can be used to find the distance of the object.
Parallax:
Parallax is used to find the distances of the stars which are near. This method works
by measuring the distance of object from two different positions. First you measure
the distance of the star from a specific position and then after six months when the
earth is on the opposite direction of the sun we measure the distance of the star again.
At that position, the star appears to move slightly than last. The parallax angle the
star makes can be used to find the distance of the star through the help of
trigonometry.
Main sequence fitting:
Main sequence fitting method is used to find the distance of the clusters of the stars.
Clusters is group of stars which are next to each other. This process works by finding
the apparent magnitude of the cluster from the earth. Then, we find the distance of
the exact distance through the help of parallax methods. This distance of the
Abuse Of Alice Power
Alice ultimately has the most power in the book. She may seem like the most
powerless character because of her ethnicity and gender, but her resilience and
ability to influence others made her the most omnipotent. For instance, she may
have been abused, threatened, and even raped by Rufus; but her constraint of
giving him the one thing he wanted made her hold the power over him. While it
may seem that he had more power on the outside, the one thing that he can t gain
from her is her love and compassion. She may have started to tolerate him after a
while, but she promised herself that if there ever came a point where she started to
enjoy the abuse, she would kill herself. Therefore, in a final attempt to gain her love
and control Alice, Rufus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter how much Dana tries to influence and control Rufus he still has power
over her. This is held true when Dana tries to influence him to send her letters to
Kevin. While she thinks that he has sent the message, Rufus doesn t actually send
it and just lies to her. Through lies and violence Rufus both controls Dana and
abuses Dana sher apparent unconditional love for him. Another way that Rufus
gains power over Dana and others is through blackmail and his ability to execute
his threats. For example, Rufus threatens Dana of sending her back in the fields in
an hour (pg) if she ever walks away from him again. Her fear for him kept her silent
kept her in the room because she knew that he meant it (214). Therefore, Rufus is
able to use his threats and blackmail to gain power over Dana. After Alice kills
herself, Rufus is emotionally destroyed, and as a result he tries to rape Dana
because he s apparently in desperate need for love; but just like every other time; he
is just influencing her to do his dirty work. Therefore, her murdering him may seem
like a jump of power, but he influenced her to do it because he had nothing to live for
anymore. His ability to influence others to do things for him is what ultimately makes
Rufus more powerful than
Holocaust Historical Background
The historical background of The Holocaust The holocaust was an event that took
place in the 20th century. This event grew slowly from 1933 and 1945. It all began
with discrimination. The Jews were separated from their communities and were
persecuted. After that they were then being treated less than human beings and were
then murdered.
During world war 2 the Nazis wanted to murder the entire Jewish population of
Europe so they could then destroy its culture.
The Nazi party took over Germany in 1933. By 1939, the Nazis had begun sending
the people marked as inferior to the Aryan race that Adolf Hitlerhad idealized to

Spinal Cord Injury Essay
Spinal Cord Injury
* Short Case Study #3
1. Describe the functional anatomy of the spinal cord using the following terms:
white matter, gray matter, tracts, roots, and spinal nerves. * White matter is one of
the two components of the central nervous system, and it consists of glial cells and
myelinated axons that transmit signals from one region of the cerebrum to another
as well as in between the cerebrum and lower brain centers. Grey matter contains
neural cell bodies. Unlike white matter, it is mostly made up of myelinated axon
tracts. Tracts are bundles of fibers that connect to different parts of the CNS. Roots
receive information sent by neurons. Spinal nerves refer to a mixture of spinal
nerves, which carry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myotomes are spinal nerve fibers and the corresponding muscles. When a spinal cord
injury happens, myotomes can be damaged which result in the lack of movement in a
muscle and the abnormal functioning of dermatomes can pinpoint spinal nerve
damage because lack of sensation occurs.
6. Define the term stretch reflex and describe how stretch reflexes are used to
anatomically localize SCI. * A stretch reflex is a contraction of a muscle when an
attached tendon is pulled. Stretch reflexes are important in maintaining proper
posture. Stretch reflexes are used to determine which areas of the body the central
nervous system are not responding to. For example, if you tap your knee to check
for reflex and the leg doesn t move, you then know that the peripheral nerves that
lead to the knee are nonresponsive and/or the brain is not receiving a signal from that
particular area.
7. Based upon the results of Jason s neurological exam, what is the neurological
level of his SCI * Jason is experiencing a complete SCI with no movement of
anything below his groin. The neurological level stops at the thoracic cord.
8. Discuss the management of SCI and the factors that determined the prognosis for
this condition. * Following a SCI, the first priority is often to help the patient develop
as much possible strength in the

Religion differences between the inhabitants, most of the original population were

the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The conflict between

The Effects Of Epigenetics Studies Genetic Effects On...
Epigenetics studies genetic effects not encoded in the DNA sequence of an
organism, hence the prefix epi . Such effects on cellular and physiological phenotypic
traits may result from external or environmental factors that switch genes on and off
and affect how cells express genes. These alterations may or may not be heritable,
although the use of the term epigenetic to describe processes that are heritable is
controversial. instead, non genetic factors cause the organism s genes to behave
differently.
One example of an epigenetic change in eukaryotic biology is the process of cellular
differentiation. During morphogenesis, totipotent stem cells become the various
pluripotent cell lines of the embryo, which in turn become fully differentiated cells.
In other words, as a single fertilized egg cell the zygote continues to divide, the
resulting daughter cells change into all the different cell types in an organism,
including neurons, muscle cells, epithelium, endothelium of blood vessels, etc., by
activating some genes while inhibiting the expression of others.
Definitions
The term epigenetics in its contemporary usage emerged in the 1990s, but for some
years has been used in somewhat variable meanings.
From this, and the associated adjective epigenetic, the term epigenetics was coined
by C. H. Waddington in 1942 as pertaining to epigenesis in parallel to Valentin
Haecker s phenogenetics .
Epigenesis in the context of biology refers to the differentiation of
What Is Active Assisted Range Of Motion
Active Assisted Range of Motion is utilized under certain conditions. It is most often
used when a client has a weakness due to pathology or injury. The therapist would
help assist the client as the client actively moves the joint through a pain free range
of motion, indicating pain when it arises. The use of light pressure touch over the
joint capsule can add palpation of tissue for analysis during active assisted ROM.
Active ROM testing is conducted first or Active Assisted ROM testing, when called
for, followed by passive ROM testing. Passive testing allows the therapist to ascertain
any adhesions or excessive mobility within the joint s range. During this passive
motion the individual being tested should remain as passive as ... Show more content

A hard or bone to bone end feel, occurring when the therapist would not expect to feel
such hard resistance, can indicate changes in the osseous tissue, joint capsule or
misalignment after a fracture. On the other end of the spectrum, an unrestricted end
feel yielding a high level of pain, may indicate bursitis and inflammation of the joint
capsule.
A very common experience among manual therapists, is a bouncy end feel, which
may include the sensation of a contractile spasm. This is a sudden and the hard
cessation of movement, including pain, followed closely by a bouncy sensation that
may include spasms in specific muscles involved with the range of motion. This type
of end feel may indicate a responsive muscle guarding intended to prevent further
injury.
A restricted, yet springy end feel near the end of range of motion of a joint, with or
without pain, can indicate changes to inert tissues. Such as, cartilage or the meniscus
of the tibiofemoral joint. Where the individual would not be able to fully extend the
joint.
A soft, yet soggy end feel can indicate edema within the joint or joint capsule. This
soggy feel may indicate an acute ligament injury, usually accompanied by moderate
to severe pain. A sprain, for example, of an ankle may also include a strain to one or
more muscle tendons.
In conclusion, there are a few ROM testing patterns that occur

the text that stood out was, she tried to be a book, but he wouldn t read meaning
she tried to be open to the man but he wouldn t listen and ignored her. In my

a series of conflicts mainly between China and Britain. The dispute was over the
legalization of the Opium trade. China s people were severely suffering from the
effects of the Opium. Britain had been illegally moving opium from India into China.
A large mass of the public had become addicted to opioids and the government sensed
the problem. Due to the success of the opium trade, Britain refused to stop bringing in
the Opium. The conflict between the two countries sparked the two part Opium Wars.
The first Opium warresulted in many different unsteady treaties, many of which were
seen as unfair to the Chinese. The second Opium Warwas a result of British greed.
The Chinese were preoccupied with the Taiping Rebellion, so the British decided to
take advantage of the situation and push the opium trade further, resulting in
further conflict. The French decided to join the British in the fighting, and the
Chinese were left defeated and forced into negotiations. Both wars resulted in
series of treaties, but each war s treaties had different impacts and affected people
in different ways. After the first Opium War, China had to give up a lot in order to
bring peace with Britain. A series of treaties were signed. The first treaty was signed
in August of 1842 in Nanjing. This treaty was known as the Treaty of Nanjing. There
were many parts to this treaty, but there were zero benefits to China. The
Summary Of The Night Sky
It was late, the moon already high in the night sky, all except for George lie
sleeping softly in the bunkhouse. An unfinished game of solitaire, sprawled out
across the barn floor. The barn was lit only by a single red candle on an overturned
crate. Next to the candle was an opened red pack of cigarettes and a dirty brass
lighter. Fresh hay was scattered around the cold floor, a job unfinished. In the
corner of the shadowed barn, a spider clung to its web as it slowly devoured a
helpless fly. Curley s wife lay still, untouched, the sight almost had a natural feeling
about it, as though this was all her life was ever to amount to, she lay dead
amongst the hay; it was as thought the others had forgotten about her and merely
continued with their dreary lives. A rusted shovel leaned against the wall, next to
a freshly dug mound of earth, covering Candy s lifeless dog. Lastly, spread across
the floor, was a ragged length of cold consuming rope, with a noose tied in one
frayed end. George crouched before the rope, hunched over almost questioningly,
as though judging whether or not this was his best way out of the situation. He
was dirty and unshaven; he had yet not bothered to change from his gloomy,
threadbare work attire. His hair was greasy and unkempt, his facial hair was long and
neglected and his face looked like it had not seen water for many days. His eyes
seemed to have sunken in to his head, for they were carrying heavy bags, he
resembled a man who had not slept for
Women And Women s Role Of Women In Advertisements
For as long as advertisements have existed, gender displays have been used to
establish the role of one gender with relation to the opposite gender. Men and
women are depicted differently in advertisements as men have a more dominant,
active pose whereas women have a more submissive yet sexy allure. Perfume
marketers use this tactic to lure potential buyers into purchasing a fragrance. To
promote their product, companies use erotic images to appeal to the abstract idea of
desire. The degree of sexualization depends heavily on the model in the perfume
advertisement but women are almost always sexualized to a higher degree than men.
In some cases, there are images of women promoting perfume where they are not
scantily clad but rather portray a sense of youthfulness and independence. The women
in these advertisements are usually recognized celebrities and because of their fame,
they portray their own identities in perfume advertisements. Due to their status in
society and media, prominent and more recognized women have more powerful
poses in perfume advertisements which compare closer to a man s perfume
advertisement. Rather than being depicted as a meek womanwhose sole purpose is to
please men, they show that they do not need to depend on a man, but they can do
things for themselves.
In Susan Bordo s text Beauty (Re)discovers the Male Body, Bordo talks about the
fact that women have been overly sexualized in advertisements for many years but
the moment that men are

Female Genital Mutilation written by Michelle Roberts (2014) of BBC News. This
article begins to inform the readers about what female genital mutilation is exactly.
According to Roberts (2014) female genital mutilation is defined as, any procedure
that harms the female genital organs for non medical purposes . The article continues
to inform its readers that among the stages of female genital mutilation, the most
severe one includes when a woman s clitoris is removed, then her genitals are
stitched together so that the female does not have or enjoy sex. As girls, grow up to

The reason is, according to this article, to keep the women hygienic, chaste and
faithful . So many girls go through the pain associated with female genital
mutilation in order to avoid bringing shame to herself as well as her family while
many more girls endure the pain so that they can be seen as strong women who can
withstand anything life throws at them. Furthermore, Roberts continues to inform
us that although many people worry about infection and unsanitary practices that
the traditional circumcisers use. This includes, using the same razor blade, a thorn
or even a piece of a broken glass to circumcise multiple of females. However, we
cannot ignore the many countries that have doctors and midwives who are trained
to perform female circumcision in their own clinic, under safe and legal practices.
So by practicing female genital mutilation in a clinic or a hospital, many argue that
the risk of bleeding and infection can be minimized. Medical professionals feel that
regardless of whatever policies and laws are in place to deter female genital
mutilation, it will always be practiced, so it might as well be done by a specialized
healthcare professional in order to prevent the risk of
Norman Bates In Psycho
The Essence of Psychological Innocence In Alfred Hitchcock s film Psycho,
Norman Bates is portrayed as a serial killer. Many would imply the notion that
Norman is guilty due to the multiple killings he performed throughout the film;
however, Norman Bates is innocent. Suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder
(DID) or multiple personality disorder Bates uncontrollable and horrendous acts of

alongside his mother s influence both play grand roles in his inability to properly
interact with people. Moreover, in Bates twisted childhood, he depended strongly on
his mother for social interaction. . The moment Norman matricide his mother he

conversation with Marion Crane, Norman states to Marion I don t hate her; I hate the

through. He was hinting that his mother was not normal or that he wasn t himself.
Marion suggested that maybe he should committed her to a mental institution.
Norman immediately shut that idea down by stating, If you love someone, you don t

mind it was the mental version of her not allowing him to come out of the house and
interact with other women that sparked his Dissociative Identity Disorder. She used
her son as a substitute lover and her hatred for any women that could take Norman

Giovanni Di Bicci De Medici Essay
I chose to do my paper on Giovanni di Bicci de Medici due to the fact that I am an
Accounting major and am very interested in finances and the banking system.
Giovanni de Bicci de Medici was an Italian banker and founder of the Medici bank.
Giovanni was born in 1360 and unlike his descendants, Giovanni was not born into
wealth. Giovanni was one of five in his family and after his father, Averardo de
Medici, died not much money was left to the family. Giovanni was also the great
grandson to another Averardo, who had served as Gonfaloniere in the 14th century.
The beginning of the Medici bank came underway through one of Giovanni s
relatives, Vieri di Cambio de Medici who was much richer than Giovanni s family.
He was an Italian banker who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This huge account that the Medici bank was able to obtain was due to Giovanni s
friendship with Baldassare Cossa. Cardinal Cossa deserted his allegiance to Pope
Gregory XII during the Western Schismand convened the Council of Pisa. His main
objective was to end the schism. They tried deposing of Pope Gregory XII and
Antipope Benedict XIII by electing another Pope, Pope Alexander V in 1409.
Gregory and Benedict ignored this decision, so now there were three popes. Pope
Alexander V died soon after which made way for Baldassare himself. Baldassare
Cossa was consecrated as Pope John XXIII in 1410. As friend and supporter of
Baldassare Cossa, Giovanni had previously loaned his money after Baldassare was
imprisoned for accusations ranging from murder to heresy to seducing women.
Giovanni used this loan in his own advantageous way because his reward for his
help and loan was Pope John XXIII making the Medici Bank the main bank for the
papal accounts and business. The Rome branch now had control over the curial
affairs, all due to Giovanni backing his friend Baldassare Cossa or Pope John. The
Roman branch of the Medici Bank always returned higher profits than any of its
other operations, at least 50% of their revenues being the chief Papal
Anthony Walton Character Analysis
A chorus is defined by Merriam Webster s Dictionary as,ВЁsomething performed,
sung, or uttered simultaneously or unanimously by a number of persons.ВЁ The idea
behind a chorus is that all of these voices, when used together, can make a much more
beautiful work of art. The use of different pitches and tones within this chorus creates
musicwith depth and more emotion. However, for Anthony Walton, a chorus has a
slightly different meaning. Within his narrative, Mississippi, he allocates an entire
chapter to the idea of a chorus; many things working together to accomplish one
goal. This goal isn t to create a more beautiful piece of music, but instead to
deconstruct our understanding of Mississippi as we know it and show us its true

U.s Russian Conflict Between Ukraine And Russia
Us Response to Ukraine and Russian Conflict
It has been argued that the Ukraine conflict can be attributed almost completely on
Russian hostility. It is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea
because of the long desire to protect the soviet terrain, and from the prevailing
situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as other nations in
Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply
provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of
part of Ukraine (Baker, et al 2014, p.1). The United States takes a big responsibility in
this conflict despite the idea that it is anticipated to answer back to the skirmish
between Ukraine and Russia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The struggle between the EU and Russia over Ukraine play an imperative part in the
current conflict of Russia and Ukraine. On the other hand, concerning the free trade
pact, Kiev initiated discussions for an entire unlimited trade pact with the European
Union after it had converted an associate of the world trade organization. The
agreement involved products, acquisition of administration, energy issues, and
protocols. Statistics demonstrates that Ukraine and European Union are great
partners, with exports to the European Union adding up to over nineteen billion
dollars and importation from European Union of approximately thirty billion dollars
(Simes 2014, p.5). Studies affirm that, Ukraine has experienced close trade with
Russia, and it was reported that after the desolation of the former USSR, the two
nations took on unlimited business pact. In recent times, Kiev was an older party to
the commonwealth of independent states FTA. However, in later years, Russia,
Belarus and Kazakhstan threw their levies in amalgamation. This is a step, which
Putin viewed as a leading phase to duties incorporation that would eventually
encompass all post USSR nations. Despite the fact that other nations have liked this

The Role Of The 1919 World Series In The Great Gatsby
The 1919 World Series is a critical part of the novel, The Great Gatsby,
understanding what happened in the series can help us to understand the fact that
sports play a large role in the novel. The main role that sports play in the novel is
that they seem to show the reader that sports are always corrupt. When Tom is
introduced to the reader, he is described as one of the most powerful men to play
football at New Haven. This gives the impression that sports are always rigged in
favor of the more athletically or physically gifted people. The word sport could
also be a pun because it could mean sports, or it could mean to wear or display.
Gatsby sports a whole persona that is completely different than James Gatz. When
Nick first meets Wolfsheim, Gatsby claims that he was the man who fixed the
World Series. This is a very large claim that Gatsby makes because if Wolfsheim
was the man who fixed the World Series, then we can draw direct comparisons to the
man who fixed the 1919 World Seriesin real life, Arnold Rothstein. Both Rothstein
and Wolfsheim were the boss of the New York City Jewish mob even though
Wolfsheim is fake. Even though he was not a real person in life it seems that the
reason why the 1919 World Series is included in the book is because Fitzgerald wants
us see that the character Wolfsheim is almost an exact representation of Rothstein.
Fitzgerald uses the scene where Nick meets Wolfsheim to introduce Gatsby to Tom.
The scene is like the meeting of two sports,

Analysis of The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society In the essay, The Human Cost
of an Illiterate Society written by Jonathan Kozol and originally published in the
book, Illiterate America , is a bundle of examples of how people who are illiterate
live every day. It showcases the hardships they go through, and how much of a
problem it is. He had quotes from various interviews with people who are illiterate,
and how many become distrustful of people trying to explain what the written
document or form says, for they can never know if they are telling the truth. Kozol
heavily uses rhetorical strategies, mostly pathos related, to showcase these
struggles and make us take notice of this problem. Overall, he uses the strategies
of logos, ethos, and pathos to push his point across. Logos is the strategy of
showing the logic behind the argument, and it is used a few times in this essay. The
main bulk of it is towards the beginning, when Kozol states a few statistics about
illiterate citizens in the United States, The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16
million the entire vote cast of the winner in the 1980 presidential contest...So long as
60 million people are denied significant participation, the government is neither of,
not for, nor by, the people (2). Kozol s main argument is how the current status of
illiterate Americans is a huge problem that we need to address, and the previous
quote from the text was his way of using logos to get us to think about the exact
Inca And Aztec Empires Similarities
The Aztec and Incan religions were similar and different in many ways. For one,
both empires and their religions consisted of polytheistic values. Both empires
participated in human sacrifice. Both empires worshipped a sun god or deity. Both
empires used religion to unify societies and access authority over citizens. Both
kings of these empires were considered angelic. Both religions believed in gods and
sacrifice. A very important role in the religionof these empires was agriculture. Both,
the Aztecand Incan empires, believed in many gods. They believed that without the
gods, their crops would wither, and soon die.
The Aztec religion believed that several worlds existed before the world that we

one that we currently live is considered to be the fifth sun. The Aztecs believe that

How Technology Is Becoming A More Common Place Tool
We, the people was not created by the people but was created by white men who
owned property. The Athenian democracy followed a similar rule; to be on the
Athenian senate one had to be a male who owned property and was not a slave. This
is a trend that has been seen through out the western world in establishing
democracies; the hegemonic power controls the laws of the state. But now, with
technology, we maybe able to empower the disenfranchised and have a more equal
representation. And with more holistic and comprehensive laws due to having a more
equal representation of the people, which may create less corruption.
The more a government appears to be transparent, the more legitimate they seem to
their citizens. Having a more transparent government, according to Rose Ackerman,
should reduce corruption. Technology is becoming a more common place tool to
create more transparency within the government. With the increase of technology to
increase transparency, more and more governments turn to Crowd sourcing.
Crowd sourcing may become the trend of the future to fight corruption within the
United States and abroad. Crowd sourcing is defined as the practice of obtaining
needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of
people and especially from the online community rather than from traditional
employees or suppliers.
There are draw backs to using crowd sourcing technology. Zinnbauer s article

Adolescent Alcohol Use And Its Consequences
Abstract Attitudinal variances were studied in intuitive processing, in the framework
of an optical search assignment. Aims: The aim of the study was to recapitulate
outcomes of recent epidemiological research on adolescent alcohol use and its
consequences, to summarize the risk factors for drinking in adolescents and to reflect
operative preventative interferences. Methods: A literature review of pertinent studies
on adolescent alcohol use. Alcohol use and other risk taking behaviors develop in
adolescence and incline to cluster together. Alcohol consumption in adolescence
appears to persevere into adulthood and is allied with alcohol problems, including
dependence, premature death and diminished work capacity. Early documentation of
adolescent risk factors may be helpful in preventing and/or diminishing risk.
Attitudinal differences are to be altered by these consequences. Conclusion: There is
a need for loftier long standing imminent group revisions to investigate the long term
magnitudes of adolescent drinking and supplementary effort is needed to identify the
most operative interference tactics. Introduction The term adolescent is an adjective
concerning a young person in the process of developing from a child into an adult
and dates from the late 18th century ( Adolescent, 1989). It is a resultant from the
Latin verb adolescere which means to grow up ( Adolescent, 1989). This research

An issue that continues to plague the local neighborhoods is the ignorance of the
natural world around us. We take the security of our homes, our yards, and our

the top of the food chain. We try and assert ourselves in the way of killing the things
we fear. Dan Brown said, We all fear what we do not understand. While Donny

Difference Between Pinterest And Annotated Bibliography
Juxtaposing research via pinterest and annotated bibliography, taught me how
social media can be used as an academic resource and how to adequately identify
credible sources for an annotated bibliography. Also learning to use databases made
it easy to find and identify reliable scholarly sources. Though I was familiar with
citing sources, I had always used a web based citationformulator. Therefore learning
MLA 8th edition was a completely new experience. The rigidity and technicality used
to scare me, but the system makes sense now that I have a comprehensive

The expository writing style for the annotated bibliography asks the researcher to
explain the article/source while developing its credibility. In the academic world
this allows other colleagues to pinpoint where certain information was collected.
The writing within the entry is direct, lacking the color or vibrancy of the Pinterest
board. The writing style for Pinterest is hard to narrow down as a variety of media
can be pinned. However, if we look directly at our classes board we can see that the
style communicates the information in a linguistically brief and concise manner,
while the visuals do most of the explanation. In the bibliography there are no visuals,
forcing the reader to rely solely on the annotated explanation.
The information in an annotated bibliography is built upon scholarly review and
recognition by those in a similar designated field of study. In Pinterest, the first
pins on the board set the tone, and the floodgates open for a rush of ideas. This
collaborative nature allows the research to move as a group conversation among
individuals of all backgrounds . Given the popular appeal and brevity of Pinterest s

In this speech, President Monroe sought to establish specific guidelines for U.S.
involvement in international affairs (McCormick, pg. 10). It was believed that
European powers would continue to seek colonization in the Western Hemisphere

European neighbors. The strong admonitions of President George Washington that,
The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is ... to have with them
as little political connection as possible were not so distant as to be forgotten
(McCormick, page 10). Isolationism was the official foreign policy of the nation and
it was from this frame of mind that President Monroe gave a customary speech that
became known as the Monroe Doctrine and unknowingly shaped American foreign
policy for the next 200 years. There are two prominent lines in the Monroe Doctrine
that overshadow the rest of the document: First, that American continents were,

Learning Theory Of Attachment And The Other Being
Bowlby s...
Early social development is the study of the development of persons from infancy to
adulthood. Research is conducted into how childhood experiences affect people s
development in later life. Attachment theories are studied and the effect of no
attachment or disrupted attachment is studied and aimed to be resolved. John Bowlby
defined attachment as the emotional and physical connection that makes two people
stay close to one another. It is between children and their primary caregivers
(Psychologistworld.com, 2016).
This essay will discuss and evaluate two theories of attachment: one being Dollard
and Miller s learning theory of attachment and the other being Bowlby s evolution
theory. Dollard and Miller s attachment theory argues that nurture is more influential
than nature in terms of attachments, taking the view that attachment is a set of
learned behaviours resulting from an individual s surroundings. In contrast, Bowlby s
theory of attachment insists nature is more dominant, defining nature as innate or
instinctive characteristics everyone has. To further discuss Bowlby s theory, this
essay will also utilize the Genie case study and how it shall be used to discuss the
social and emotional effects of attachment.
The learning theory put forward by Dollard and Miller (1950) attempts to explain
why attachments are formed in terms of nurture. They claim that attachment involves
a set of learned behaviours through classical and operate conditioning. Classical

based on initial reactions however it is biased and has little understanding of logic
or statistics. Both systems fight for our attention and we generally allow system 1
to overpower system 2 since we know system 2 is lazy. Here is an example of the
laziness of system 2 from the book, Thinking Fast and Slow , by Daniel Kahneman.
A bat and ball cost $1.10
The bat costs one dollar more than the ball.
How much does the ball cost?
The first number that comes to your mind is from system 1. I am guessing that
most people have guessed $0.10, which is wrong. Now that I have told you that it
is wrong you system 2 will kick in to try and figure out the true answer. The true
answer is $0.05. If the bat costs one dollar more than the ball it will cost $1.05 and
the ball will
Prenatal Androgen Model Essay
The prenatal androgen model, which has become a clichГ© in the field, argues that
homosexuality in men is due to under exposure to prenatal androgens and in women,
due to over exposure.9 Attempts to support the model included hormone
measurements, animal experimentations and studies of rare disorders (i.e., congenital
adrenal hyperplasia and testicular feminization) all of which revealed inconsistent
results.10 In the following surge of research in prenatal androgen model, indirect
consequences of prenatal hormone impact, such as digit ratio, fingerprint patterns and
oto acoustic emissions have been studied, without reaching definitive conclusions.9 It
is warranted that prenatal androgenization is essential for malegenderidentity
development, but apparently not decisive.11 Thus,... Show more content on

These hormones have a critical role in cell differentiation during development and
help maintain thermogenic and metabolic homeostasis in the adults.12 Thyroid
disorders are highly prevalent in the population and mostly affect women in
childbearing age.13 In pregnancy, thyroid gland displays mild to moderate
enlargement because of increased physiological demands. Thyroid function is altered
by 4 factors in pregnancy: i) the transient increase in human chorionic gonadotropin
(hCG) during the first trimester, which cross reacts with thyroid stimulating hormone
(TSH) receptor; ii) the estrogen induced rise in thyroxine binding globulin (TBG)
which is the major transport protein for thyroid hormone; iii) increased
autoimmunity; and iv) increased urinary iodide clearance, which can cause impaired
thyroid hormone production in areas of low iodine supply.12,14 17 Consequently,
the levels of both T3 and T4, the major hormones released by the thyroid, increase
by ~50% and serum TSH levels decrease in the first trimester and increase in the

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a mishmash of stories within stories within a story,
and several other texts are referenced within this amalgamation of literature. The
intertextual links made in Frankenstein help to provide the reader with a greater
insight into the mind of Mary Shelley and her most famous work. References to the
text Paradise lostand Greek mythology in the development of characters adds depth to
a tale of creation and destruction, causing the questions Shelley asks about humanity
to resonate far more poignantly with the reader.
Frankenstein in many ways acts as a mirror, reflecting Milton s Paradise Lost
explicitly throughout the text. Milton s purpose in writing Paradise Lost was to

Victor, like Satan does not consider the ramifications of his actions. He ardently
desired knowledge in an attempt to become more than his father, his creator (of
sorts) even if it lead to his destruction. The word ardently is typically a feminine
and irrational feeling conveying his recklessness and contrasting the rationality of
science causing the reader to question Victor s ability as a scientist or creator. In
Milton s works Eve never interacts with god. The women in Frankenstein, Walton
s sister and Elizabeth are kept away from the main story and the action; they are
used mostly as narrative or plot devices: the sister as giving someone for Walton to
write to and Elizabeth as a companion and then catalyst for Victor and the Monster
s chase. The narrator of Paradise Lost describes Adam as created for God, and Eve
as created for Adam, and that she was designed for the purpose of companionship
much like Elizabeth s depiction. Although the gender imbalances of Paradise Lost
are based on the current societal ideologies and those of the bible, Shelley s
depiction (or lack thereof) can been seen to suggest their importance in the creation of
life.
Victor Frankenstein, through his speech and actions is constructed as a symbolic
parallel to God, particularly through his creation of life. However Shelley s God

Satire Essays On Smoking. Laurel Flores: Satire

  • 1. Satire Essays On Smoking Crafting an essay on the subject of "Satire Essays on Smoking" can present both challenges and opportunities for creativity. While satire allows for a playful and humorous exploration of a serious topic like smoking, striking the right balance between wit and conveying a meaningful message can be a delicate task. Firstly, one must navigate the thin line between humor and sensitivity, as smoking is a health concern affecting many individuals. It's crucial to avoid offending or alienating readers while still using satire to shed light on the absurdities associated with smoking culture. The challenge lies in weaving a narrative that combines humor with a poignant critique of the tobacco industry, societal attitudes towards smoking, and the impact on public health. Finding the right tone to engage readers in a lighthearted manner while addressing the serious consequences of smoking demands a careful approach. Furthermore, crafting effective satire requires a deep understanding of the target audience. What might be amusing to one group could be offensive to another, so the essay must be tailored to resonate with the intended readership. Research becomes a vital component, as a well-informed essay can employ facts and statistics to enhance the satirical elements. This blend of humor and factual information not only entertains but also educates the audience on the harms of smoking. In the end, writing a satire essay on smoking demands a delicate dance between humor and responsibility. It involves understanding the audience, researching the subject thoroughly, and employing creativity to deliver a compelling narrative. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing challenges, various platforms like HelpWriting.net offer professional services. • 2. What Does Girl On Fire Mean Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys is an empowering song wrote to emphasize the strength in women of all jobs. Alicia Keys, who has always promoted female empowerment, wrote this song to explain how she was feeling in a woman in this society. Within the song and the music video, the song talks about a women who really has the typical femalejob. She is a mom who takes care of her kids, cleans, and really runs the household. The message, however is not shaming women who are in this role. Instead, the song speaks of how women are strong no matter what role they play in the world. The Basics of Toilet Training Essay The process of toilet training may be considered the most challenging process that parents encounter with their child during the early stages of his or life. Toilet training can be described as an individualized developmental process that all children will progress at their own developmental pace and temperament, not the child s chronological age. Toilettraining should be a natural result of the child s developmental readiness. Therefore the primary goal can only be achieved when the child is ready and willing. Just like any learning process for a child, including toilet training, it effects the development of the whole child and it is important that the child has the necessary physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills to begin.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the toilet training process, a child must obtain body awareness and be able to associate bodily sensation to the result that follows, poop or pee. Then after he masters that skill he must acquire the certain skills that will allow him to picture what he wants to do (use the toilet), create a plan to get here, begin using it, and remain in place long enough to finish, which requires both memory and concentration (Wolraich 26). The next and probably most difficult readiness sign a parent must recognize before starting the toilet training process is emotional growth. There are many emotional issues that can greatly affect toilet training that include a eagerness for independence, a child s need for control, testing of rules and limits, desire to win parents approval, and fears of toilet use. If a child resists the idea of using the toilet when mentioned he may be experiencing an emotional issue and the parent should wait for a better time to follow through with the process. If the child is continually repeating signs of resistance a parent may want to rethink if it is too soon to begin the process and understand that the child may be going through a major change in the his life that is creating stress. Parents should know that it is not the best time to toilet train when a new baby is expected soon or has recently arrived, the family has newly moved, the child has just

In the 1860 s, controversies of the practice of slavery, westward expansion, and political authorities caused high tensions between the Northern Union and the Southern Confederacy. As the tensions built up, the Civil War began on April 12th, 1861 after the secession of the Southern states. Determining the independence of the Confederacy and the fate of the Union, the Civil War was a period of major technological transformation. In 1865, the Union officially won the Civil War with advantages such as industrialization, a larger population, and most importantly, technological innovations. Advancement in technology, such as the telegraph, railroads, and rifles, effectively changed the Northern military strategies by establishing a rapid network of communication, providing an efficient and safe system of transportation, and improving the performance of the weapons. Unlike the Confederacy army, the Union had the telegraph system that established a rapid network of communication. Before the telegraph system, the Northern army had no direct communication with the President, which led to unnecessary stagnation. For instance, General in Chief, Winfield Scott, was so accepting of the tradition of being unable to communicate rapidly with the front that he took a nap during the battle (Wheeler). However, with the telegraph, President Lincoln was able to directly communicate with the battlefield

  • 12. Analysis Of The Poem The Odyssey Penelope is identified by relatively few epithets within the last six books of the Odyssey, and indeed, throughout the poem. Her most common epithet is circumspect, although she is also referred to as the respected wife of Odysseus and the daughter of Ikarios with relative frequency as well. It is not until the end of the poem, specifically Book Twenty Four, that Penelope gains a broader spectrum of identifying epithets, including blameless and prudent (Homer, Odyssey24.194, 198). Her identification as circumspect is important to the overall theme of ОЅПЊПѓП„ОїП‚ (homecoming) in the Odyssey. In addition, the manner in which she is described within the poem stays relatively stable until the last two books, wherein Penelope gains greater depth as a female character when she is reunited with her husband. Penelope, like most women, is identified through her male relatives, in this case through her husband Odysseusand her father Ikarios. This is not an uncommon style of epithets, even amongst the suitors. This is therefore not meant to diminish her role as regent of Ithaka while Odysseus is away at war. However, it should be noted that Penelope feels that her identity is controlled entirely by Odysseus (Homer, Od. 18.251 255). Despite this, Penelope is very much her own independent character, as is shown by her adept ability at stalling the suitors and ruling as regent over Ithaka for the duration of Odysseus absence. The most common epithet of Penelope is

This method works by striking a beam of radio waves towards the object, the radio waves after striking the object will come back as echo. So, the time taken by the radio waves to come back in the form of echo can be used to find the distance of the object. Parallax: Parallax is used to find the distances of the stars which are near. This method works by measuring the distance of object from two different positions. First you measure the distance of the star from a specific position and then after six months when the earth is on the opposite direction of the sun we measure the distance of the star again. At that position, the star appears to move slightly than last. The parallax angle the star makes can be used to find the distance of the star through the help of trigonometry. Main sequence fitting: Main sequence fitting method is used to find the distance of the clusters of the stars. Clusters is group of stars which are next to each other. This process works by finding the apparent magnitude of the cluster from the earth. Then, we find the distance of the exact distance through the help of parallax methods. This distance of the

  • 19. The Effects Of Epigenetics Studies Genetic Effects On... Epigenetics studies genetic effects not encoded in the DNA sequence of an organism, hence the prefix epi . Such effects on cellular and physiological phenotypic traits may result from external or environmental factors that switch genes on and off and affect how cells express genes. These alterations may or may not be heritable, although the use of the term epigenetic to describe processes that are heritable is controversial. instead, non genetic factors cause the organism s genes to behave differently. One example of an epigenetic change in eukaryotic biology is the process of cellular differentiation. During morphogenesis, totipotent stem cells become the various pluripotent cell lines of the embryo, which in turn become fully differentiated cells. In other words, as a single fertilized egg cell the zygote continues to divide, the resulting daughter cells change into all the different cell types in an organism, including neurons, muscle cells, epithelium, endothelium of blood vessels, etc., by activating some genes while inhibiting the expression of others. Definitions The term epigenetics in its contemporary usage emerged in the 1990s, but for some years has been used in somewhat variable meanings. From this, and the associated adjective epigenetic, the term epigenetics was coined by C. H. Waddington in 1942 as pertaining to epigenesis in parallel to Valentin Haecker s phenogenetics . Epigenesis in the context of biology refers to the differentiation of

Women And Women s Role Of Women In Advertisements For as long as advertisements have existed, gender displays have been used to establish the role of one gender with relation to the opposite gender. Men and women are depicted differently in advertisements as men have a more dominant, active pose whereas women have a more submissive yet sexy allure. Perfume marketers use this tactic to lure potential buyers into purchasing a fragrance. To promote their product, companies use erotic images to appeal to the abstract idea of desire. The degree of sexualization depends heavily on the model in the perfume advertisement but women are almost always sexualized to a higher degree than men. In some cases, there are images of women promoting perfume where they are not scantily clad but rather portray a sense of youthfulness and independence. The women in these advertisements are usually recognized celebrities and because of their fame, they portray their own identities in perfume advertisements. Due to their status in society and media, prominent and more recognized women have more powerful poses in perfume advertisements which compare closer to a man s perfume advertisement. Giovanni de Bicci de Medici was an Italian banker and founder of the Medici bank. Giovanni was born in 1360 and unlike his descendants, Giovanni was not born into wealth. Giovanni was one of five in his family and after his father, Averardo de Medici, died not much money was left to the family. Giovanni was also the great grandson to another Averardo, who had served as Gonfaloniere in the 14th century. They tried deposing of Pope Gregory XII and Antipope Benedict XIII by electing another Pope, Pope Alexander V in 1409. Gregory and Benedict ignored this decision, so now there were three popes. Pope Alexander V died soon after which made way for Baldassare himself. Baldassare Cossa was consecrated as Pope John XXIII in 1410. It is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine (Baker, et al 2014, p.1). The Role Of The 1919 World Series In The Great Gatsby The 1919 World Series is a critical part of the novel, The Great Gatsby, understanding what happened in the series can help us to understand the fact that sports play a large role in the novel. The main role that sports play in the novel is that they seem to show the reader that sports are always corrupt. When Tom is introduced to the reader, he is described as one of the most powerful men to play football at New Haven. This gives the impression that sports are always rigged in favor of the more athletically or physically gifted people. The word sport could also be a pun because it could mean sports, or it could mean to wear or display. Gatsby sports a whole persona that is completely different than James Gatz. When Nick first meets Wolfsheim, Gatsby claims that he was the man who fixed the World Series. This is a very large claim that Gatsby makes because if Wolfsheim was the man who fixed the World Series, then we can draw direct comparisons to the man who fixed the 1919 World Seriesin real life, Arnold Rothstein. Both Rothstein and Wolfsheim were the boss of the New York City Jewish mob even though Wolfsheim is fake. Even though he was not a real person in life it seems that the reason why the 1919 World Series is included in the book is because Fitzgerald wants us see that the character Wolfsheim is almost an exact representation of Rothstein. Fitzgerald uses the scene where Nick meets Wolfsheim to introduce Gatsby to Tom. The scene is like the meeting of two sports,

It showcases the hardships they go through, and how much of a problem it is. He had quotes from various interviews with people who are illiterate, and how many become distrustful of people trying to explain what the written document or form says, for they can never know if they are telling the truth. Kozol heavily uses rhetorical strategies, mostly pathos related, to showcase these struggles and make us take notice of this problem. Overall, he uses the strategies of logos, ethos, and pathos to push his point across. Logos is the strategy of showing the logic behind the argument, and it is used a few times in this essay. Attachment theories are studied and the effect of no attachment or disrupted attachment is studied and aimed to be resolved. John Bowlby defined attachment as the emotional and physical connection that makes two people stay close to one another. It is between children and their primary caregivers (Psychologistworld.com, 2016). This essay will discuss and evaluate two theories of attachment: one being Dollard and Miller s learning theory of attachment and the other being Bowlby s evolution theory. Dollard and Miller s attachment theory argues that nurture is more influential than nature in terms of attachments, taking the view that attachment is a set of learned behaviours resulting from an individual s surroundings. In contrast, Bowlby s theory of attachment insists nature is more dominant, defining nature as innate or instinctive characteristics everyone has. To further discuss Bowlby s theory, this essay will also utilize the Genie case study and how it shall be used to discuss the social and emotional effects of attachment. The learning theory put forward by Dollard and Miller (1950) attempts to explain why attachments are formed in terms of nurture. They claim that attachment involves a set of learned behaviours through classical and operate conditioning. Classical conditioning
