Madhumita Rao is a candidate for a Doctorate in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in 2022. She has a 3.933 GPA and relevant coursework. Her experience includes being co-site director for Let's Get Ready Boston where she recruited students and coaches for SAT tutoring. She also worked as a verbal coach and at Macy's. Rao was accepted to the competitive RISE research internship program at Boston University where she analyzed data and presented findings. She has leadership experience as first chair flautist and e-board member of her high school band and as president of her Hindu youth group.

Tallaght Hospital Library undertook a journal review project from 2009-2012 to reduce costs while maintaining relevant collections. They communicated openly with users, gathered usage data and user evaluations, and made decisions based on principles of retaining the most used and valued titles. This approach successfully engaged users and safeguarded relationships, allowing 73 titles to be cancelled in 2011 and an additional 31+83 in 2012 while receiving positive feedback.

Introduction
Tallaght Hospital is a teaching Hospital of Trinity College, Dublin and within this structure, the Library plays a vital role in maintaining that status. When the Library faced a period of fiscal uncertainty and potential closure due to a loss of clarity with regards to its role within the organisation, the Hospital Executive commissioned a review of the service to be led by the Head Librarian and terms of reference were agreed.
Objective
The objective was to review the service and make recommendations about its future development, and to utilise a strategic framework to guide this development, highlighting the Library as a service which is essential to the standing of the Hospital.
Methods
A Library Review Group was established, composed of a broad and representative cross-section of stakeholders. The values underpinning the review were evidence and engagement. Bryson’s Strategic Change Cycle was adopted as the strategic framework to structure the review process. The Group took a multi-faceted approach to gathering the evidence, using benchmarking, stakeholder feedback and a comprehensive literature review. The Group used the opportunity afforded by the review to engage a diverse range of hospital staff who voiced their requirement for the development and expansion of library services. Contemporary best practice was considered as was the strategic context outlined in Tallaght Hospital’s Clinical Service Strategy 2016-2018 and Trinity Health Ireland’s strategic objectives.
Results
The Library Review Group completed its work in July 2016 with the submission of its report and recommendations to the Executive. The Report and Library Service Strategy outlines how the Hospital can build on the quality of its existing Library service. At the time of writing in October 2016, a meeting with the CEO is scheduled and it is anticipated that the report recommendations will be adopted and resourced by the Hospital.
Conclusion
The strategic planning involved in leading a review such as this showcases the variety of approaches that can be taken and by analysing this process, a framework can be considered for similar projects. This type of strategic management requires librarians to fully embrace leadership roles as they look to guide their own service and integrate themselves into the healthcare environment.

Oral Histories as Building Blocks for New Theoretical Models: Individual Agen...ADVANCE-Purdue
The number of women faculty members in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines in the US remains disproportionately small compared to women’s PhD graduation rates, despite the creation and implementation of numerous programs designed to promote women’s academic success. Much of the existing research draws on “chilly climate” and “pipeline” theoretical models to explain this phenomenon. These models address gendered experiences to an extent, but they do not adequately consider the role of individual agency on the direction of women’s career pathways. Examining the ways gendered experiences shape women’s decision-making processes at critical junctures in their career pathways may lead to new theoretical models that reflect women’s actual career paths to STEM faculty careers.
This research is part of a broader project that models women’s career pathways into STEM faculty positions and examines the ways they are similar to and/or different from chilly climate and pipeline models, and if they vary based on race and/or ethnicity. Modeling women’s career pathways into STEM faculty positions will uncover critical junctures when women’s choices may have led them to alternative careers or in the inverse, retained them in STEM faculty careers. Identifying these critical junctures has potential to inform hiring, recruitment, and retention policies aimed at increasing women’s representation among STEM faculty.
In this paper, I demonstrate the potential of oral histories to illuminate the ways individual agency and gendered experiences shape women’s pathways to STEM faculty careers. In particular, I discuss the use of oral histories to identify critical career pathway junctures and examine the relationship between gendered experiences and women’s decision-making in their career pathways to and in STEM faculty positions. I describe the results from a set of oral histories of women faculty in STEM disciplines collected as part of a NSF-funded ADVANCE grant research project aimed at improving the career success of women STEM faculty. Oral histories give participants greater voice to discuss points along their career pathways they feel are important. For context, the oral history includes biographical information, family life information, educational history, and employment history. Career path modeling includes women’s first interests in STEM disciplines, the ways those interests were fostered through education, and in-depth discussions about each job held after doctoral receipt with particular focus on current STEM faculty positions. The oral history concludes by discussing the ways participants feel gender, race and/or ethnicity affect feelings of fitting into their departments and perceptions of treatment by others because of their gender, race and/or ethnicity.
Because of the open-ended nature of oral histories, gendered experiences and emerge naturally through women’s stories about their career pathways. Women’s reflections on and perceptions of their career paths and the role of gender within it will produce rich, real-life data from which new theoretical models may be developed.

Good Morning Students, welcome to your library orientation! First thing I would like to tell you is that a copy of this presentation will be found in the dental medicine libguide. So there is no need to memorize everything or take copious notes. You can just listen.
I am Julie Sarpy and I am the liaison librarian for the College of Dental Medicine. My email is jsarpy@nova.edu. and my office hours are M-F 7:30-4 pm. The reference office is open 8:30-5pm. If you need to get in touch with me and I am not there, you email the library at hpdref@nova.edu and the first available librarian will help you.
The library is located on the first floor in HPD. Next to juiceblenz in Assembly III bldg, just go through the doors to the right and down the corridor and there you will find us.
So what does the library have to offer? We have services and resources for assignment, exam and paper preparation, all the tools that your will need to get through your program
HPD is open 7 to midnight M-Thurs, 7-9 Friday and 10 to midnight, reference librarians are available M-F 8:00-5:30 for in person help. But the library itself is open longer hours. There are study rooms available for use in the Study center in assembly bldg. II, if the study rooms here are full and starting in September the study center will be open 24/7. You have access 24/7 to the library’s electronic resources.
The library this semester and next is under construction. We adding study space, new lighting and electrical outlets. What his means is that the quick study zone and library study rooms are closed. However HPD Library is open. Normal hours, But if you need a private study rm, will have to go over to Alvin Sherman the main library and check one. out I know that the shuttle service to Sherman has increased, since the renovation. And They are open 8 to 11 pm.
So here are a few things that HPD has to offer students and I will go over most of the items on this list in detail on the next slides So terms of finding what you need: the library has databases, e-journals, you can check out a book for 30 days, you can check equipment and tablets, we interlibrary services so that you can get articles or books that HPD library does not have: There are also study rooms available, you can walk in and talk to us, make an appointment if you would like and get help on endnote (citation management software) which you will need for papers; and because the library is below the student union or rec center;-you can borrow a putter and putting green, pool cues, ping pong balls for 25¢ and paddles.
If you are in need of a quiet place to study, some alternatives are Finklestein Auditorium here in HPD, the library Study carrels in hallways, and the other Other HPD classrooms (see website and social media for daily updates)
So HPD Library has mediascape collaborative computers, so if you are working on a group project you all can work on these collaborative computers and look at the same thing at the same time, instead of sharing one computer; you need to reserve these in the front desk area
We have an AV studio, for audio video recording and editing; you can use to practice presentations or rehearse speeches, or record over PowerPoints.
We do have computer computers that you can use in the library. Right now they are located in the OIIT computer lab., instead off the circulation counters. The lab is going to be reconfigured during Phase II of construction, but computer access will be somewhere in the library although it might be limited
After December the Study Zones will return to the library.
We have an information commons area, You don’t have to be quiet there and where at certain times of the year, particularly around finals , we will put out food and snacks, popcorn is always popular in Mondays, to be a stress reliever for you and bring in a since of community; We do provide Keurig Coffee for you. It is available after Available after JuiceBlendz closes- $1 a K-cup (cannot compete with them, but after Juiceblendz closes then you are welcome to it. .Purchase K-cups at HPD Library Front Desk). We have bagel nights during finals and pet therapy animals also come into the library.
So HPD does have some books on reserve, mainly for required books, we try to have the current editions of your textbook, which in case on are on campus without a particular textbook, you can come by and take a look at it or look something up; You can check them out for a 3 hour time period. But they are on reserve and cannot leave the library; You can make copies but by copyright not more than one chapter.
Print journals have permanently been relocated to off site storage to give us more seating in the library. They will not be returning after the renovation. You will have assignments where you have to compare older articles to new articles. You will have to request your older article be sent to you through interlibrary loan document delivery and access it online.
These also are not coming back either. So you can request a book be sent to you through interlibrary loan and you will be able to pick it up from the circulation desk.
We also have an innovation lab where you can access the 3-D printers. The lab has two 3D printers, a Kinect 3D scanner, and a variety of 3D design and editing software available for you to use. 3D printed medical applications include: prostheses, implants, anatomical models. And the printers are free to students, faculty and staff for educational purposes. So you can stop by and talk to John Reynolds, the emerging technology librarian or Aaron Sager, technical assistance, about project ideas.
You can also find us in the library. Our offices are located in the back under the Ask a Librarian Sign and you can walk in and speak to me or any of the other librarians. I am your librarian for Dental Medicine and as you can see the other programs have their own librarians as well. But anyone can help you. So let’s get started doing searches. As we discuss HPD Library Online Resources. You can access the HPD Library website or homepage from the Nova Libraries homepage which you can get to from the Nova Southeastern University home page nova.edu. At the top pf page and click under research and then click on the Libraries Learn more tab, when you do that it takes you to the Libraries page
Nova has 4 libraries here: Alvin Sherman (which is the main campus and libraries and also serves as a public library); there is the law library, oceanographic libraries which is not here but located at the Oceanography Center, and HPD your library, click on it and it opens the HPD Library homepage or you can go directly to the page by typing nova.edu/hpdlibrary into your search bar
Here you will find out information on the library features and services that I just discussed, but from here you will access your program specific libguide –yours is Dental Medicine (notice the tooth) and that where you will be to find subject specific resources; and also this page will your access point for finding books, journal articles, and to access the databases
So let’s get stared finding a book; now from the Search Library Catalog, you can type in the title of book and do a keyword search; So let’s search for .Mosby’s Dental Drug Reference: Type Mosby’s Dental Drug Reference: in search bar and click search
Our search yielded two search results: one an e-book through Ebsco and the other NSU electronic book. With an e-book it can only have 1 user at a time, it is like a book being physically being checked out of the library. -you must wait until the session of a borrower is over before you will be able view it; have to plan ahead, don’t want to be waiting on a book for a paper the night before the report is due and cannot access it because it is checked out: Click on title
Then click on the name of the database (Clinical Key)
The system will prompt you to login: login using your nova email and password. Use the NSU student box; you have a single sign in and will keep you logged in for an hour or so
That will take you to the book, it is in the Clinical Key database which is an important clinical resource/for searching thousands of books, journals, and procedural videos that are evidence-based and peer reviewed. The article has been refereed and sent to other experts in the field for review before being approved for publication. Important to know as some of your assignments will require you to search for peer reviewed articles
-You see the book cover, Table of Contents and you can click on a link of you just want to view a chapter, if you want to search the book you can type directly into the search box and click on the magnifying glass
If go back and do another search in the library catalog-this time for, the Essentials of Dental Caries, again you retrieve 2 results, this time you have more options for obtaining the book as you have a copy on the circulation shelves, at the reference desk and an e-book

This is one of your textbooks and the library tries to keep current editions of your textbook, so if you are on campus and without your textbooks and need to look for something you can come by and check it out (only 3 hours for reserve books)
Full Text Finder
Use this feature to find journals –journals are periodicals like magazines that are published either monthly or quarterly for HPD library and your interests on academic and scientific subjects.
Now this is a bit of misnomer, you will only use this to search by journal titles-student often get confused here, but remember that you have to search by journal title that is the only way this feature will work and retrieve your desired results.
So let say your assignment is to retrieve an article from a particular citation or reference for a paper or literature review. Here is the citation
Raimann, T. (2016). The ethics of dental treatment during pregnancy. Journal of the American Dental Association, 147(8), 688.
Under the Search full text finder tab, Type, JADA into the search box under exact phrase, the catalog scrolls to try to locate the journal, -click search
You retrieve two search results, select the database that contains the journal with the year that you are seeking. Your citation’s year is 2016, so you want the Science Direct database
-so click on it
: Again you will be prompted to login with your Shark id and password
You should know that the resource will not open directly to your article so browse to the correct year/volume/issue and select it (We are looking for JADA 2016/ Volume 147/ Issue 8). You will see a list of articles for that specific issue
Browse the list until you find the article; navigate thru to date. Now we are looking for the ethics of dental treatment during pregnancy and it is down here. -click on the PDF icon and it opens up
Click on the PDF icon and it opens up; So Tips: every database looks different and you have to look for a list of years or volumes. Click on the correct one for your article.

We do not have that journal From the HPD Library homepage under services tab, click interlibrary loan. You can make a request through interlibrary loan and we will see if we can find another institution that will lend it to us. They make a copy and scan it and send to us and we notify us that is available by email and you retrieve it in pdf format
You need to complete the form thoroughly with as much pertinent information about the book or journal article. Keep in mind it takes 5 to 10 days for us to get, so it is not a quick turnaround process. If you need a book that neither HPD or Alvin Sherman library had, you make a request and it is ready, would receive an email and then you can come to the library and pick it up
PubMed is the Medline database of biomedical literature maintained by NIM, -- with of 24 million citations from life science journals and online books; Invaluable assets and take advantage of NOVA subscription. ; So click on PubMed Quick Search, Log In
You can do a keyword search, I am going to search for gum disease and heart disease My search yielded 466 search results. .Notice the search details box: it gives you the MESH terms for your search is the headings that Medline uses-official terms that it uses in the database to search- so gum disease is mapped to gingival disease-useful in searching

And look for it. Click on it and it opens up the abstract . To find it through NSU resources, click FIND IT. You will have to log in again and then you will be able to see which databases offer full texr link to the article
It is in Dental and Oral Sciences Source database, so click there. It Opens directly to article and there you get the PDF, print or save it, cite it or export it to a citation manager like Endnote
You can also browse the databases from the home page, if you know which ones you want to search, the university subscribes to over 150 databases, quite an extensive selection and you need to take advantage of these resources. Databases is the fourth tab on the 2 layer tabs on the library homepage. Just click on the letter and go to the database, For example, if you click on B, you can find Bates; Visual Guide to Physical Examination which gives you Video demonstrations of head-to-toe and systems-based physical examination techniques
Now I want to briefly, look at the Dental Medicine Libguide – that is your program resource and ready reference for everything HPD. It has everything that you need to know and utilize throughout your academic career, at least in terms of the library. It has the latest information on databases and dental news, not to mention research tips, writing and citing and clinical resources.
I already told you that there is a refresher on how to find full text articles. but under key databases, you will see the links and a brief description of the databases by subject
Of particular interest to you will be the anatomy and physiology tab: there you find direct links to anatomy and physiology resources, like Acland’s Video atlas of Human anatomy, and Anatomy and Physiology revealed which has video tutorials using cadavers that are brief and concise, Anatomy TV has detailed illustrations and you can rotate the images and zoom in and save them which is good for presentations
Also there is the database chart, it is a reference tool so if you ever get confused as to which database is for what subject you can refer to this chart for clarification.
Before I conclude, I want to show you the Dentistry and Oral Sciences Sources Database, you can keyword search here and find peer reviewed articles and get the pdfs; You will see that it is an Ebsco product, I know most must have used Academic Search Premier as an undergrad, so the interface will be familiar to you. Let’s say that you had a clinical question or PICO question (Population or Problem/Intervention/Comparison/Outcome) and you want an evidence-based answer: Does gum chewing increase the incidence of tooth decay? Type gum chewing into the top search box and tooth decay in the second search box and the database uses Boolean logic and retrieves results where those two subject overlap, like a Venn Diagram in the middle.
Search retrieves 161 results, you can use the limiters on the side if you want to narrow search even more by date or full-text, scholarly, even by language or publisher (you cannot see those on this slide)
Click on the pdf to open it. You have the full text and the icons on top right you can print, export to endnote, attach, save, basically whatever need to do
