My Summer Vacation
My Summer in Chicago
I couldn t help but to feel anxious and excited. It was my first time being in such a vast city and I
couldn t wait to explore it. The time was near the end of July, this is when my dad usually enjoys
taking our summer vacations, primarily outside of our state to somewhere else new and exciting.
That summer my dad decided to take a week long road trip and visit, Wisconsin Dells, Chicago, St.
Louis, and Madison. My dad said he wanted to show my sisters and I all the adventures he did in
Chicago when he was my age. I had felt joyful about the trip, I could not wait to see all the
buildings and walk down the Navy Pier. To tell the truth, I was more excited to visit Chicago a
little more since it was such an extensive city and I had wanted to visit there ever since I was
younger.
A few days before the trip, my dad, my sister Nina, and I, had done some research and added up
the cost of the trip and looked for hotels and restaurants to visit during the time we were there
and on our road trip. After about an hour of research on Chicago, we had our plan of what to do
for our time in Chicago. That night, It was difficult to fall asleep, although I wasn t surprised I
usually didn t fall asleep right away before a vacation, I m usually too excited.
Morning soon came and my dad, my younger sister Niomi, my sister Nina, and I were all ready to
leave and finally begin the drive to Chicago. Not to mention, it would be about six hours to arrive
there. Finally, after

Wireless Access And The Transmission Bandwidth
Abstract The demand for wireless access is permanently growing and the transmission bandwidth
is limited. Higher data rates and signal quality is always desired among the users; therefore a more
efficient use of the frequency resource is needed to fill the user capacity needs. Space Division
Multiple Access (SDMA) is used to increase the capacity given by regular multiple access
techniques (FDMA, TDMA and CDMA) using the user position information to provide access to
the best communication channel based on their spatial location. This paper presents Smart Antenna
techniques applied to SDMA systems as an efficient frequency usage technique.

The spectrum is limited, but multiple access techniques allow a large number of mobile users to
share the same allocated spectrum efficiently and use the same bandwidth at the same time without
degrading the existing quality of service.
Sending and receiving simultaneously information to and from the base station is desirable among
wireless communication systems. Equipping these base stations with smart antenna arrays enable
beam steering in contrast to sectorized single antenna systems. This make possible to Base
Stations to send data to specific users on the down link or to receive directed data on the up link
by reusing channels within a cell for Mobile Stations (MS), spatially separated by smart antenna
arrays.
Cellular system divides the area into cells where mobile units are located and aims to increase
the capacity of the channel with an efficient level of quality of service. Channel access can be
achieved through: Frequency division multiple access (FDMA), Time division multiple access
(TDMA), Code division multiple access (CDMA), and Space Division Multiple access (SDMA). In
this paper we will focus on SDMA systems.
SMART ANTENNA AND SPACE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS HISTORY
Smart antennas were developed by the military but as the cellular phone users grew in the 1980s,
the commercial area became more interested in the field. SDMA idea was first introduced in 1947
by Douglas H. Ring when he wrote about a new way to

Analysis Of My Son The Man By Sharon Olds
Accepting Independence
Poetry is like a song without music, it has the ability to awaken your emotions and the ability to
tell stories that can paint beautiful, relatable, imagery in the viewer s mind. Upon reading the
poem, My Son the Man by Sharon Olds, she presents a unique view on her bittersweet
experience of watching her son gravitate towards manhood, Suddenly his shoulders get a lot
wider (line1), while realizing he is astute enough to escape his mother s strong hold, to learn the
way out (line 16). As a mother myself, I began to recognize how I can relate to the speaker s
challenges of understanding a child s need to test limits and break free from dependency. I realized
through the speaker s obvious allusions to Houdini expressing the need to break free, the contrast
used to convey the indirect references to Houdini, and the similes used to express emotion toward
reflecting back on a time of innocence, accepting the need of a maturing child s independence
proves the strength of a mother s love.
My Son the Man begins by comparing her maturing son with the allusion to Houdini, Suddenly
his shoulders get a lot wider, /the way Houdini would expand his body/while people were putting
him in chairs (1 3), similar to Houdini preparing for his next challenge involving an almost
impossible trick. Therefore, lines 1 3 is used to express the shock of a child s rapid growth while
learning to overcome the manacles of growing up, similar to the physical manacles

The Structural Transformation Of The Public Sphere...
Literature Review Jurgen Habermas can be seen as one of the founders of the term and details the
idea of refeudalization in their novel The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere in which
he writes how the bourgeois public sphere eroded because of economic and structural changes. The
boundaries between state and society blurred, leading to a kind of refeudalization of society.
(Habermas, 1989). Essentially state and society became involved in each other s spheres and large
non governmental organizations replaced the old institutions of the public sphere. Furthermore,
where the public sphere takes on a feudal aspect is the process of politicians and organizations
representing themselves before the voters. (Habermas, 1989). These ideas are then further
explained in more contemporary contexts by Alain Supiot writing that primarily of the
refeudalization of law but also ignorance of the organization of powers underpinning the
government by laws is taking us back to government by men, that is, to feudal ways of hybridizing
the public and the private. (Supiot, 2013). Then further clarifying that Western feudalism today is
the dependency between people having a legal character where there are status differences and the
dependent party may be granted possession, but it is burdened by the obligations to the benefit of
the grantor. (Supiot, 2013). Supiot does however put forward the idea that refeudalization of law
does not mean a return to the middle agesbut

Literature On Foreign Direct Investment
The literature on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has documented various spillover effects on host
countries. Following the same line of literature, this chapter takes the analysis further analysing
spatial spillover in Indian manufacturing firms for the period 2001 2015. The analysis is based on
two different types of weight matrices, one which is geographical based on firm s location district
and the other is based on economic distance created by industrytype of the firms. The results from
Spatial Autoregressive Model and Spatial Durbin Model suggest the existence of positive main
effects of foreign direct investmentand on the job training but negative interaction effects with

Horizontal spillovers are measured by the share of foreign firms in output, sales and employment.
Backward and forward spillovers are created by multiplying horizontal spillovers with the

Venezuelan firms and find positive productivity effect of foreign firms on joint venture firms.
Blalocl and Gertler (2008) discuss technology diffusion and competition induced by multinational

Slave Women in Harriet Jacobs Incidents in the Life of a...
Slave Women in Harriet Jacobs Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Toni Morrison s Beloved
Slavery was a horrible institution that dehumanized a race of people. Female slave bondage was
different from that of men. It wasn t less severe, but it was different. The sexual abuse, child
bearing, and child care responsibilities affected the females s pattern of resistance and how they
conducted their lives. Harriet Jacobs Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, demonstrates the different
role that women slaves had and the struggles that were caused from having to cope with sexual
abuse.
Growing up as a slave Jacobs was constantly exposed to sexual abuse from her master. She was

When she wanted to escape into freedom, her bonds to her children were so great that it was hard
for her to leave them. Jacobs couldn t stand the suppression and constant abuse of her master. She
couldn t leave her children. Her grandmother told her, Stand by your children, and suffer with them
till death. Nobody respects a mother who forsakes her children: and if you leave them, you will
never have a happy moment. (Jacobs, 417)
The slave women s choices in life were not limited to her happiness, but she had to think about her
children. A mother had different responsibilities that she had to deal with. By having to deal with
sexual abuse and thinking about children women were less able to leave their chains and people
behind. According to Deborah Gray White in Aren t I a Women? , ...for those fugitive women who
left children in slavery, the physical relief which freedom brought was limited compensation for the
anguish they suffered. (White.62) Recent DNA test results that have concluded that the Nation s
third president, Thomas Jefferson fathered at least one child, Eston Hemings, with his slave, Sally
Hemings. The study has shed new light on the aged debate, forcing society and historians to
recognize what had previously been ignored. Although America is obsessed with race, our society
does not recognize the central role slavery has played in the nation s development. The continued

Who Is Sylvia In A White Heron
In A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett, Sylvia, a city girl moves to her grandmother s farm and
immediately falls in love with the forest that surrounds the farm. Although only ten, nature is not
all she begins to take interest in, she is also at an age and place where she wants to form
friendships. Shortly after moving from the city, Sylvia meets a young hunter who she seems to
take interest in. The Hunter asks Sylvia is she knew the whereabouts of a heron that he had been
seeking for quite some time. He tells her that if she knew, he would give her ten dollars. Sylvia is
faced with a hard decision whether or not to tell the hunter where the heron lived not just because
of the money but to also create a friendship with him. On the other hand Sylvia wants to follow
her newly developed love for nature and protect the heron. She must decide whether to keep nature
in balance and protect it or form a relationship with the hunter by telling him where the white heron
lives to add it to his collection of stuffed birds. The central idea in the story is that even... Show

I say this because she protects the forest, more specifically the heron. She stands up for what she
believes in and although she is tempted to help the hunter not only for money but also for a

from the wrong and weighs the options based on how it would not only affect her but also nature
(the heron). The antagonist in the story is the hunter. Although polite he still tries to bribe Sylvia
for the whereabouts of the herons nest. He creates the internal conflict that Sylvia has to deal
with. One critic writes Sylvia should be older, for her matureness. Now I don t know for sure what
aspects the critic might be talking about but I think she is referring to how Sylvia is able to set
aside her emotional needs to protect the white heron and keep nature in its natural

Television As Teacher Neil Postman Analysis
Going just one day without being exposed to any form of media is nearly impossible. Through
film, television shows, music, advertisements, news programs, newspapers, and magazines, we
are exposed to media daily. The role that media plays in the way that individuals think is
important. Media affects the way many individuals view circumstances, events, and people. The
portrayal of women in media affects the way that individuals view women. There are many
television shows that are geared towards women. Shows such as Keeping Up With The
Kardashians and Pretty Little Liars are all television programs that have a target audience of
women. In the essay Television as Teacher by Neil Postman, Postman calls television a curriculum

In the majority of video games where women are present, many of them tend to have the same
complexion as a Hispanic/Latino woman and they are wearing a minimal amount of clothing.
These video games are played mostly by young teenage boys. They are being exposed to this
kind of depiction of a Hispanic/Latino woman and while banning videogames altogether is not
the answer, depicting woman differently could be an answer. According to J.R. Macnamara in
his book Media and Male Identity: The Making and Remaking of Men, he says that from the
beginning of the twentieth century, sex and sexuality have been identified as fundamental
elements of identity (6), and when Hispanic/Latino women are highly sexualized in media, some
men view Hispanic/Latino women in their everyday lives as easy and desiring sex. Media s
portrayal of sex is usually fun, without consequences, with any girl a man wishes to engage in the
act with. Because women are usually portrayed as a sex object for men, some young men have
developed the mindset that women are just that, a sexual object to give men pleasure. The less
clothing and more promiscuous and flirtation a woman is on television, for example, is portrayed,
the easier of a target they seem to the man watching and this can manifest into their real life
thoughts and actions. Many of these racy roles are played by Hispanic/Latino women. Rachel Bell,

of transparency for what is visible to one s self and others. The blind area contains the unsighted
traits visible to others, but this area is reduced through active feedback solicitation. The hidden area
remains veiled when there is a conscious disclosure of public information, which elicits lesser
intimate responses than that of private information. The unknown area contains repressed feelings
that once arose from traumatic experiences, which remains private. Over time, information
disclosure is central to liking if the other party reciprocates the exchange of self disclosure and

other societies, like the Trobriand Islanders and the traditional rural Chinese towns, disrupting

However, polygyny is rare as this practice can cause tensions to rise between the first wife,
husband, and second wife.In the Trobriand Islands not continuing the matrilineage is dishonorable

Mental disorders are dreadful things that can attack without warning. While some are aware of the
disorders that affect them, others are not, and they can therefore be affected by their disorders to
the point of no return. Sociopathy and psychopathy, which can stem from either environmental
factors or brain abnormalities, are examples of this. While there are misconceptions about the true
identities of these disorders and the differences between them, this paper will attempt to inform the

Armed Police Uniforms
Armed police officers create discrimination?
Do you think police officers should be armed if their job is to protect schools? Many will argue
yes because of safety reasons, but what if that leads to bigger problems? This has been a debate
for years and has caused to create many rules that have or have not worked. For example the Gun
Free schools Act or the zero tolerance policies. Although it protects students and can create a safe
and secure environment, police officers in schools should not be armed because it can create
discrimination, officers will feel with more power and authority, and take away student s education.
However, many might think police officers should be armed in case of an emergency. There has
been many incidents where shootings occurs at schools and the police officer s job is to protect
themselves and the lives of students and staff at any cost. You can argue this to be a good
reason to allow police officers to carry weapons. They feel they should be armed for protection,
but many police officers take advantage of that and feel they have the power to do anything, even
to break a law. It is not right for police officers to think they can break laws because everyone is
equal and having armed police officers will damage students in other ways.
Police officers do contribute to an environment of discrimination. Immigration has been a big
problem in our society because people like Donald Trump, for example, think immigrants got here
to destroy the country.

Managing And Securing Unstructured Data
With a massive growth in Internet, there has been an enormous increase in the amount of
information generated and shared in social networking sites and across various industries. This has
led to storing and access issues with regards to unstructured data.
Firstly understanding what unstructured data is of primary importance before trying to handle it.
In simple terms unstructured data can be understood as data that can t be stored in the form of rows
and columns. It can be anything including email files, text documents, presentations, image and
video files.
Studies carried out by IDC and EMC forecasts that data will grow to 40 zettabyes (1 ZB = 1 billion
TB). As of now more than 80% of all stored data in organizations is unstructured and ... Show more

Also backup and restore will take a lesser time
Major disadvantage is that storing unstructured data will significantly increase the size of
databases which will lead to more time for backup and restore of these databases and can cause
performance issues with I/O subsystems
The big disadvantage of this approach is that we have to create and maintain manual links between
database and external file system files which can potentially go out of sync. Also since data is
stored outside the system the backups are not consistent and unstructured data is not a part of the
transaction.
Hybrid Approach: To overcome the disadvantages of the methods discussed above, another method
was the Hybrid Approach, which proposes Database engine to support a new data type filestream .
Filestram help consolidates the profit of getting to BLOBs specifically from the NTFS document
framework with the referential integrity and simple entry offered by the conventional social
database engine. In SQL Server, BLOBs can be standard varbinary (max) information that stores the
information in tables, or filestream varbinary (max) protests that store the information in the
document framework. The major advantage of this approach is BLOB s are under database
transactional consistency. By carrying out research with different datasets, it was clearly observed
that hybrid and filestream data type approach is faster

By having the finer internal cables intertwining and twisting, it reduces the effect of electrical or
magnetic interference on the signals By nature of how electrical work, more than once signal
cannot be transmitted as they interfere with each other and data can be corrupted and be
recoverable. A system of allocating time or sharing of the resource avoids this problem. There
are options such as passing a token where only the token holder may transmit or time
reservations. Though these methods work, they are inefficient as time is lost during token
passing, or when resources are urgently needed. CSMA/CD and CSMA/CA protocols are
designed to overcome is issue. CSMA/CA taps into and listens in on a line to check that not data
is currently being transmitted. In the case that the line is unused the device may transmit its data
allowing for the line to be used dynamically. This method has a blind spot, in the case two or
more devices are listening on an idle line simultaneously, they will send simultaneously and each
signal will interfere with the other. Though there are protocols to avoid this from happening again
when each node resends their data, time lost can vary depending on the quantity of data sent.
CSMA/CA resolves this by listening while transmitting, if a collision is detected the data stream is
cut off and stopping data that will be corrupted being sent. This avoids wasted time, during which a
resource is in use but nothing productive is achieved. Data

Wife Of Bath And Pardoners Tale Essay
The Pardoner and The Wife of Bath by Geoffrey Chaucer was a intriguing read. The Canterbury

the pardoner teaches greed and self indulgence is also a sin when that is all you care about in

The Pardoner is a very wealthy man but he still makes the group of young Flemish people lather

The Topic Of Representation And Stereotypes
For this essay I have chosen to write about the topic of Representation and stereotypes . Using a
media example I will be exploring the concept of why stereotypes are used so commonly and do
they really matter. Through my research, I hope to provide substantial evidence, which backup my
points throughout and give the reader a clear understanding of how stereotypes are used in my
chosen piece of media text.
Stereotypes have always been around it s not a new concept people are only discovering recently.
Stereotyping is people s thoughts on others not like themselves. It s when an individual is judged
on their characteristics and put into a certain group reflecting them. Individuals are generally
judged on religion, gender, race and sexual orientation. These are just a few categories that exist
in stereotyping, however the main two forms that cause a lot of controversy are sex and race. A
few well known examples of sex and race stereotypes are...
All women are bad drivers
Black people are good at sports
Men are strong and do all the work
Women should be in the kitchen
These stereotypes are so commonly used it s now the norm way of thinking. Stereotyping is
basically making an assumption on a group of people without knowing them. This type of thought
process reflects the most traditional conceptualization of stereotypes within social psychology, in
which stereotypes are considered to be the picture in the head of individuals looking into their
social worlds

The Maze Runner Thomas Compare And Contrast
Thomas, from The Maze Runner by James Dashner, is courageous, intelligent, and quick to
think on his feet. He doesn t remember his past, only his name. He is brought to the Glade by
WICKED, an organization that wants to fight the Flare. There are many similarities and
differences between us. One similarity between us is that we are both loyal to our friends and
we ve both been betrayed by them. We care for our friends and would do anything to help them.
For example, Thomas showed this when he ran through the doors right before they closed to save
Alby and Minho. We also both have been betrayed by our friends, like how Thomas was betrayed
by Theresa and Alby. We have more differences between us than similarities. One of them is that

How Apparent Biological Categories Are Social Categories
Explain how apparent biological categories are social categories: To further understand this
component, for a sociologist to effectively understand social stratification and the high rate of
discrimination in the US will require proper understanding of race. This sociological inquiry would
render the whole aspects of the raceto be natural. Naturalness is something that can be best
outlined from the similar biological traits that individual have through a particular race. In such
instances where race become the determining factor, we would consider the significance of the
claim that it is not true to the fact that biological categories are social categories. If for instance, a
particular race let s say African is a social convention, we are required to agree to the fact that all of
us could adopt African conventions and become one. This is a claim that lacks external
considerations and proof. The explicit reasoning behind this claim renders everything to be
questionable. Different components ought to be looked at rather than just forming the deductible
conclusion that cannot be validated with correct facts and proofs. It is ambiguous to claim that race
is not a natural kind even after looking at the high rate of racial prejudice and discrimination that
takes place in the American society. The explanations given to support race is not adequate to
justify the practices that can explain the high rate of discrimination. People need to understand
different components that are

The Possibility Of Integrating Critical Thinking For...
Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language
Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that saying is one thing; doing is another thing (qtd. in
Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the
necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language
Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical
thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this
spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe,
analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our
hypotheses about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide
two sections, first, we deal with the students questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we
will move to do the same with teachers questionnaire. 2.1.Methodology 2.1.1.Hypothesis It is worth
to reiterate our research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may
enhance EFL students mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning,
thereby, they become autonomous. 2.1.2.Population What is worth being mentioned is that the
reason behind opting for master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery

What Does Al Fuzai Use Pathos In The Criminal Use Of The Veil
Criminal Use of the Veil is an opinion piece written by Muna Al Fuzai on Kuwait Times. It talks
about a woman wearing a veil that served a Filipina maid as a feast to some youths in a desert
camp who raped and harmed her. Muna discusses how dangerous it is that women who are
veiled are not questioned for their identity because its is seen as a virtue. After crimes by veiled
women are commited, no one is able to find the suspect because the face has not been shown
which leads to many crimes left unsolved. Fuzai s piece is persuasive because she uses pathos,
metaphors, and similes. Pathos is the use of emotions to persuade an audience of an idea or an
argument. Fuzai incorporates pathos throughout the piece while describing the horrible... Show

Fuzai persuades the readers using metaphors to show a connection between two unlike things. For
example, Fuzai compares the poor maid to [becoming] fodder to the two rapists to show how the
men dehumanized the maid and saw her only as something to feed their hunger for lust. She also
describes the two rapists as sex maniacs to show how their behaviors were extremely wild and
violent. All that mattered to them was satisfying their sexual desires even if that meant harming an
innocent person. She warns the readers of the danger of veiled women by describing them as ghosts
without features because they keep their identity hidden under the veil and no one can see them.
They travel around anonymously and unidentified just like ghosts. It could be a crazy person
who is not even a female under the veil that is plotting a crime. This person would get away with
it because when a dissenting voice is raised, it is silenced by calling the veil a virtue . Every time
someone tries to speak up about this concerning issue of veiled women, someone else comes and
shuts down the idea by calling the veil a virtue and not seeing it for the bad qualities it

Modern America s Foundation Consists Of Equality And...
Modern America s foundation consists of equality and their values against discrimination.
However, during the 1900 s equality was not as easy as it is today due to factors such as
individuals viewing themselves as superior to others. According to the Anti Defamation League
(ADL), this is the mentality known as racism. It s defined as the belief that a particular race is
superior or inferior to another, that a person s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her
inborn biological characteristics... (ADL). The persistence in the 1900 s of White Americans to
hinder blacks from reaching their true equality was dominant in communities, specifically in the
Southern States of the United States. The perception of race by the society and its citizens affected
the lives of blacks, from how they felt, to the nature and the extent in which they participated in
social life. By looking at the film entitled The Great Debaters, we can see that in order to persuade
someone to do something, it is beneficial to create a sense of responsibility; this works because,
making actions seem personally relevant is more effective than a generic response.
Lloyd Bitzer employs that when trying to advocate for change individuals must illustrate a reality
that will enable action. Individuals are often persuaded through measures that provoke a reaction
and an urgency for change in a given situation. Bitzer discusses that a situation, specifically a
rhetorical situation, comes into existence as

My mind is a lot stronger than my body and I can t lie and say that it doesn t bother my state of

heart is tachycardic and there s nothing I can do about it. But once I get myself together after I
wake up, I say a prayer, think positive thoughts and go on about my day!
Because my days are so unpredictable, I literally have to take one day at a time. Planning upcoming

bloggers are great at planning their blog schedules ahead of time and sticking to it. To be honest, I
started to develop blogger envy because I would read posts about how well other bloggers could

Developing A Strong Teacher Student Relationship
In the field of education, no matter what position you carry relationships are the key. Relationship
can be defined as, an emotional or other connection between people (dictionary.com). During an
academic school year, as well as throughout the duration of a teacher s career as an educator, it is
important to build teacher student, teacher parent, teacher administrator, and teacher teacher
relationships. Not only does a teacher have to build these relationships but he/she has to make sure
that they are positive and effective relationships. Building student s associations with educators has

Dead Sea Srolls Study Guide
1.What are some methodological issues scholars encounter studying the Hebrew Bible and the
histories of ancient Israel?
There are so many different variations of the same text that the story cannot be aligned with
assurance for some scholars. There are different perspectives regarding the same stories in history,
therefore they have been separated into their own collections of literature; such as canonization and
biblical text recognized by different sects. Not all of the Hebrew Bible was written in Hebrew, in
fact, some of the scriptures were written in Aramaic. Scholars also run into the issue with sources
by means of interpretation and preservation. Primary sources like the Dead Sea Scrolls are easier to
extract information from rather than archeological artifacts that are likely to be open to
interpretation.
2. What do multiple canons and collections of texts tell us about canonization? Why do scholars
consider canonization a process, not a moment? What is the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls
and what do they tell us about textual traditions during the Second Temple period?
The canon books were prized text that was held in high regards to wisdom and history of the
culture. The content of these books was from the laws of Moses to the birth and death of humanity
and all that was in between, about a three thousand year timeframe. The preservation of these
scriptures including additions to, removal of, or any alterations to the text was guarded by the

The Second Wave Feminism
Introduction Women all over the world are marginalized in different ways. The movement to
achieve equality and human rights for is called feminism. It includes educational, personal end
cultural areas. Feminism involves political and sociological theories and philosophies with gender.
The word feminism got mass popularity from the 1970s. Maggie Humm and Rebecca walker
divided the history of feminisminto three waves. The first wave focused on the promotion of
equality in property and family law. It begins in the early twentieth century in the United
Kingdom and in the united states. The second wave feminism comes as a continuation of the first
wave to fight against the social and cultural inequalities like political inequalities. Second wave
feminism started in the early 1960s and lasted up to 1980s. It was a continuation of the feminist
movements in UK and US. It leads to the third wave feminism which retired as a response to
perceiving the failures of the second wave. The first wave was more based on the rights and the
second wave was about inequality. Whereas the feminists in the second wave saw the inequalities

Nep Vs Gp Essay
A) How do the controls over NEP and NECB differ from the controls over GPP and
decomposition? Why are these controls different? (Chapter 7)

Net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB) is the net rate of carbon accumulation by an ecosystem. It is
the change in ecosystem carbon stock over time. Net ecosystem production (NEP) is the total
amount of carbon moving into an ecosystem minus the total respiration of the ecosystem (GPP
Recosytem). Where gross primary productivity (GPP) is the sum of all photosynthetic activity
measured at the ecosystem scale. Decomposition is the conversion of dead organic matter into
CO2, mineral nutrients, and organic compounds through the processes of leaching, fragmentation,
and chemical alteration. All of these concepts are interrelated and fit into NECB, but the controls
differ in some substantial ways.
GPP is controlled by amount of photosynthetic tissue, the duration of the activity (including
environmental stressors), and soil resources (water and nutrients). This represents the largest carbon
flux into the system and one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fungi typically have a suite of different enzymes capable of breaking down different types of plant

contributes a particular enzyme, each of which contributes to breaking certain bonds within those
compounds. For example, cellulose breakdown requires a suite of three different enzyme systems:
endocellulases break down the internal bonds, the exocellulases remove the ends of the chains, this
forms cellobiose, which can be absorbed, but is further broken down by cellobiase intercellularly to

Additionally, within his works, Lewis poses discerning question, How is it that people who are
quite obviously eaten up with Pride can say they believe in God and appear to themselves very

some Christians attempt to hold on to the earthly commodities without realizing what is offered to
them in the afterlife.
While discussing the topic of Christian belief, Lewis discusses Christ s crucifixion and offers the
following description of humility, Now the Christian belief is that if we somehow share the
humility and suffering of Christ we shall also share in His conquest for death and find a new life

Complexity Is Defined By The American Heritage Dictionary
Complexity is defined by The American Heritage Dictionary as the state or condition of being
intricate or complex. Something that is complex is further defined as a configuration consisting of
interconnected or interwoven parts that are complicated. Complicated is then defined as that which
is difficult to understand or analyze. And finally by definition, to understand means to know
through experience and comprehend the nature, significance or intended meaning within a causal
framework. It is important to note from the above definitions that complexitydoes not merely mean
not simple . It is also critical to realize that the complexity of the systemmust be related to a
perspective of understanding as it related to a logical causal... Show more content on

So these emergent rules of complexity are not strictly physical laws in the Newtonian sense but
rather arise from the logical constructs, functioning and control of the overall system directive
which is in turn dependent on the governance of physical laws.
Note the role of the observer in this definition and the reliance upon its ability to process and
interpret information. Because of this dependence on a capacity of comprehension by the observer,
a complex system can be considered organized or disorganized. Most people would agree that
complex systems usually have many parts. However, the way those parts interrelate might be
difficult to discern. In fact, there is somewhat of a disconnection between complexity and
organization that centers around the observers understanding of the logical causal framework of
the system. Warren Weaver posited that disorganized or disordered complexity exists when there
are a large number of parts within the system that appeared to interact randomly. Like a mixed
solution of chemicals in a glass beaker or gas molecules within a closed container. The emergent
properties of such a system (color, temperature, viscosity, etc.) can be understood by solely using
probability and statistical methods to describe the interactions of the individual components. By
contrast organized or ordered complexity

Essay On Improving Access To Legal Services
Improving Access to Legal Services in the United States The U.S. Congress established the
Legal Services Corporation (LSC) in 1974 to promote equality in the justice system. Today, the
access and affordability of legal services, especially for the poor, continues to be an issue.
According to the LSC s 2017 Justice Gap Report, Eighty six percent of the civil legal problems
faced by low income Americans in a given year receive inadequate or no legal help (Legal Services
Corporation, 2017, p. 30). The Sixth Amendment of the U.S. constitution and relevant case law
details the universal application of both American citizens and noncitizens right to legal counsel.
By examining possible policy alternatives through the lens of the rationalism... Show more content

Some solutions include the improvement of funding and structure of public defender services to
ensure each litigant receives proper attention, the reformation of the justice system to avoid
disproportionate effects on the poor, collaboration with other services to expand accessibility, and
increased promotion and incentives for attorneys to provide pro bono services. In the 1963 U.S.
Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright, the Sixth Amendment s right to counsel became
incorporated, and as a result, those who are indigent are entitled to a court appointed attorney to
represent them in any courtroom. This landmark case led states to enhance their public defense
systems because public defenders assist in the fight against crime and contribute to the effective
operation of programs that may help reduce recidivism, thereby increasing the effectiveness of our
justice system (Fabelo, 2001, p. 2). Ensuring that states allocate necessary funding and resources to
their respective public defender systems will reduce individual public defenders caseloads.
Policymakers examining the needs of public defender systems should use personal testimony from
people who utilized the service, verdict and sentencing data, and public opinion polls as measures of

The Star Trek Phenomenon
History of TV
Star Trek The phenomenon that is Star Trek began on September 8, 1966 on NBC. From that
night on, America would forever be different. At a point in time where the cowboys were falling
from the small screen and science fiction was on the rise. However, there has and never been and
will never another be a program as well known as Star Trek. The first time the show aired, it only
saw 3 years before NBC canceled the show, and almost 20 years went past before it re aired in its
new form. The cult following that kept the show alive still drives its success today. Compared to
today s television, something can be said for the quality of Star Trek s production value. Critics
often ridicule the show today, but behind the cheap looking sets and laughable dialogue and
effects, the show was groundbreaking for its time in all different types of ways. It is hard to
believe that cheap plywood sets and basic effects are used in one of the biggest science fiction
shows of all time, but the show was written by highly regarded science fiction authors of the day.
On top of the writers being well prestige, many of its production values, particularly costuming,
were extremely high, despite a relatively small budget a weekly TV series normally sees. Critics
who call the show cheesy ignore the fact that by the standards of the day, Star Trek was quite
ahead of its time, and it effectively raised the bar, something that forced all science fiction
television shows and movies to

Madness In Paranoia
A/N: It s slow at the start but kinda explaining things and the way Maehys it was always going to
be slow. Maehys Targaryen had seen how her father behaved, paranoid, insane and willing to,
burn the city to the ground with each of his children, except Maehys out of the way. Paranoia
was the downfall of the Mad King, he was willing to lock his daughter away in the maidenvault
to keep her innocence and avoid her being tainted by men. Though that did not work when both
her brothers and mother protested, though Viserys wasn t taken seriously, he was a boy, but his
reasoning was that he d miss his elder sister too much. They say the Targaryen madness is

Bank Of Americ An Ethical Dilemma
An ethical dilemma plays an important role in business. Ethical dilemma moral situation where a
choice have to be made between two equally unwanted alternatives. While a business dilemma
according to Fernando (2009) is when the decision maker of organization meets a choice between
two or more variants that will have a different influence on income, competitiveness and
shareholders of organization. As the chairman and CEO of Bank of America, Lewis takes a
responsibility to instruct the shareholders about the adverse conditions with Merrill Lynchmerger.
The same applies goes to Thain who deluded shareholders about financial problems in Merrill
Lynch and the bonuses paid. Another point is that Thain and Lewis pay out bonuses before
acquisition of the deal. On the other point of view, Lewis had responsibility to the overall well
being of the U.S and global financial system. Another major crisis will affect Bank of America
shareholders and customers. No matter what Lewis chooses, anyway it will influence to a lot of
people. The best choice was to choose one that will minimize the damages. Obviously, Lewis and
Thain should not pay out bonuses before acquisition. They acted unethically, but if Thain reveal the
bonuses before the acquisition, it will impact on his employees who might have lose their jobs,
shareholders who might have lose money... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. My Summer Vacation My Summer in Chicago I couldn t help but to feel anxious and excited. It was my first time being in such a vast city and I couldn t wait to explore it. The time was near the end of July, this is when my dad usually enjoys taking our summer vacations, primarily outside of our state to somewhere else new and exciting. That summer my dad decided to take a week long road trip and visit, Wisconsin Dells, Chicago, St. Louis, and Madison. My dad said he wanted to show my sisters and I all the adventures he did in Chicago when he was my age. I had felt joyful about the trip, I could not wait to see all the buildings and walk down the Navy Pier. To tell the truth, I was more excited to visit Chicago a little more since it was such an extensive city and I had wanted to visit there ever since I was younger. A few days before the trip, my dad, my sister Nina, and I, had done some research and added up the cost of the trip and looked for hotels and restaurants to visit during the time we were there and on our road trip. After about an hour of research on Chicago, we had our plan of what to do for our time in Chicago. That night, It was difficult to fall asleep, although I wasn t surprised I usually didn t fall asleep right away before a vacation, I m usually too excited. Morning soon came and my dad, my younger sister Niomi, my sister Nina, and I were all ready to leave and finally begin the drive to Chicago. Not to mention, it would be about six hours to arrive there. Finally, after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Wireless Access And The Transmission Bandwidth Abstract The demand for wireless access is permanently growing and the transmission bandwidth is limited. Higher data rates and signal quality is always desired among the users; therefore a more efficient use of the frequency resource is needed to fill the user capacity needs. Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) is used to increase the capacity given by regular multiple access techniques (FDMA, TDMA and CDMA) using the user position information to provide access to the best communication channel based on their spatial location. This paper presents Smart Antenna techniques applied to SDMA systems as an efficient frequency usage technique. Key Words Base station, Beamforming, Code division multiple access (CDMA), Dynamic Channel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spectrum is limited, but multiple access techniques allow a large number of mobile users to share the same allocated spectrum efficiently and use the same bandwidth at the same time without degrading the existing quality of service. Sending and receiving simultaneously information to and from the base station is desirable among wireless communication systems. Equipping these base stations with smart antenna arrays enable beam steering in contrast to sectorized single antenna systems. This make possible to Base Stations to send data to specific users on the down link or to receive directed data on the up link by reusing channels within a cell for Mobile Stations (MS), spatially separated by smart antenna arrays. Cellular system divides the area into cells where mobile units are located and aims to increase the capacity of the channel with an efficient level of quality of service. Channel access can be achieved through: Frequency division multiple access (FDMA), Time division multiple access (TDMA), Code division multiple access (CDMA), and Space Division Multiple access (SDMA). In this paper we will focus on SDMA systems. SMART ANTENNA AND SPACE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS HISTORY Smart antennas were developed by the military but as the cellular phone users grew in the 1980s, the commercial area became more interested in the field. SDMA idea was first introduced in 1947 by Douglas H. Ring when he wrote about a new way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of My Son The Man By Sharon Olds Accepting Independence Poetry is like a song without music, it has the ability to awaken your emotions and the ability to tell stories that can paint beautiful, relatable, imagery in the viewer s mind. Upon reading the poem, My Son the Man by Sharon Olds, she presents a unique view on her bittersweet experience of watching her son gravitate towards manhood, Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider (line1), while realizing he is astute enough to escape his mother s strong hold, to learn the way out (line 16). As a mother myself, I began to recognize how I can relate to the speaker s challenges of understanding a child s need to test limits and break free from dependency. I realized through the speaker s obvious allusions to Houdini expressing the need to break free, the contrast used to convey the indirect references to Houdini, and the similes used to express emotion toward reflecting back on a time of innocence, accepting the need of a maturing child s independence proves the strength of a mother s love. My Son the Man begins by comparing her maturing son with the allusion to Houdini, Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider, /the way Houdini would expand his body/while people were putting him in chairs (1 3), similar to Houdini preparing for his next challenge involving an almost impossible trick. Therefore, lines 1 3 is used to express the shock of a child s rapid growth while learning to overcome the manacles of growing up, similar to the physical manacles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Structural Transformation Of The Public Sphere... Literature Review Jurgen Habermas can be seen as one of the founders of the term and details the idea of refeudalization in their novel The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere in which he writes how the bourgeois public sphere eroded because of economic and structural changes. The boundaries between state and society blurred, leading to a kind of refeudalization of society. (Habermas, 1989). Essentially state and society became involved in each other s spheres and large non governmental organizations replaced the old institutions of the public sphere. Furthermore, where the public sphere takes on a feudal aspect is the process of politicians and organizations representing themselves before the voters. (Habermas, 1989). These ideas are then further explained in more contemporary contexts by Alain Supiot writing that primarily of the refeudalization of law but also ignorance of the organization of powers underpinning the government by laws is taking us back to government by men, that is, to feudal ways of hybridizing the public and the private. (Supiot, 2013). Then further clarifying that Western feudalism today is the dependency between people having a legal character where there are status differences and the dependent party may be granted possession, but it is burdened by the obligations to the benefit of the grantor. (Supiot, 2013). Supiot does however put forward the idea that refeudalization of law does not mean a return to the middle agesbut ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to J.R. Media s portrayal of sex is usually fun, without consequences, with any girl a man wishes to engage in the act with. Because women are usually portrayed as a sex object for men, some young men have developed the mindset that women are just that, a sexual object to give men pleasure. The less clothing and more promiscuous and flirtation a woman is on television, for example, is portrayed, the easier of a target they seem to the man watching and this can manifest into their real life thoughts and actions. Many will argue yes because of safety reasons, but what if that leads to bigger problems? This has been a debate for years and has caused to create many rules that have or have not worked. For example the Gun Free schools Act or the zero tolerance policies. Although it protects students and can create a safe and secure environment, police officers in schools should not be armed because it can create discrimination, officers will feel with more power and authority, and take away student s education. However, many might think police officers should be armed in case of an emergency. There has been many incidents where shootings occurs at schools and the police officer s job is to protect themselves and the lives of students and staff at any cost. You can argue this to be a good reason to allow police officers to carry weapons. They feel they should be armed for protection, but many police officers take advantage of that and feel they have the power to do anything, even to break a law. It is not right for police officers to think they can break laws because everyone is equal and having armed police officers will damage students in other ways. Also since data is stored outside the system the backups are not consistent and unstructured data is not a part of the transaction. Hybrid Approach: To overcome the disadvantages of the methods discussed above, another method was the Hybrid Approach, which proposes Database engine to support a new data type filestream . Despite this, the physical layer has several of its own contributions to making a quality network. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has developed standards for physical ports and cables that have been generally accepted globally. This greatly simplifies the physical connection work required with only one type of cable needed that will fit any machine s ports. By having the finer internal cables intertwining and twisting, it reduces the effect of electrical or magnetic interference on the signals By nature of how electrical work, more than once signal cannot be transmitted as they interfere with each other and data can be corrupted and be recoverable. A system of allocating time or sharing of the resource avoids this problem. There are options such as passing a token where only the token holder may transmit or time reservations. Though these methods work, they are inefficient as time is lost during token passing, or when resources are urgently needed. CSMA/CD and CSMA/CA protocols are designed to overcome is issue. CSMA/CA taps into and listens in on a line to check that not data is currently being transmitted. In the case that the line is unused the device may transmit its data allowing for the line to be used dynamically. This method has a blind spot, in the case two or more devices are listening on an idle line simultaneously, they will send simultaneously and each signal will interfere with the other. Though there are protocols to avoid this from happening again when each node resends their data, time lost can vary depending on the quantity of data sent. CSMA/CA resolves this by listening while transmitting, if a collision is detected the data stream is cut off and stopping data that will be corrupted being sent. This avoids wasted time, during which a resource is in use but nothing productive is achieved. Data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Topic Of Representation And Stereotypes For this essay I have chosen to write about the topic of Representation and stereotypes . Using a media example I will be exploring the concept of why stereotypes are used so commonly and do they really matter. Through my research, I hope to provide substantial evidence, which backup my points throughout and give the reader a clear understanding of how stereotypes are used in my chosen piece of media text. Stereotypes have always been around it s not a new concept people are only discovering recently. Stereotyping is people s thoughts on others not like themselves. It s when an individual is judged on their characteristics and put into a certain group reflecting them. Individuals are generally judged on religion, gender, race and sexual orientation. These are just a few categories that exist in stereotyping, however the main two forms that cause a lot of controversy are sex and race. A few well known examples of sex and race stereotypes are... • 22. How Apparent Biological Categories Are Social Categories Explain how apparent biological categories are social categories: To further understand this component, for a sociologist to effectively understand social stratification and the high rate of discrimination in the US will require proper understanding of race. This sociological inquiry would render the whole aspects of the raceto be natural. Naturalness is something that can be best outlined from the similar biological traits that individual have through a particular race. In such instances where race become the determining factor, we would consider the significance of the claim that it is not true to the fact that biological categories are social categories. If for instance, a particular race let s say African is a social convention, we are required to agree to the fact that all of us could adopt African conventions and become one. This is a claim that lacks external considerations and proof. The explicit reasoning behind this claim renders everything to be questionable. Different components ought to be looked at rather than just forming the deductible conclusion that cannot be validated with correct facts and proofs. It is ambiguous to claim that race is not a natural kind even after looking at the high rate of racial prejudice and discrimination that takes place in the American society. The explanations given to support race is not adequate to justify the practices that can explain the high rate of discrimination. People need to understand different components that are ... Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that saying is one thing; doing is another thing (qtd. in Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe, analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections, first, we deal with the students questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do the same with teachers questionnaire. 2.1.Methodology 2.1.1.Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become autonomous. 2.1.2.Population What is worth being mentioned is that the reason behind opting for master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery ... However, during the 1900 s equality was not as easy as it is today due to factors such as individuals viewing themselves as superior to others. According to the Anti Defamation League (ADL), this is the mentality known as racism. It s defined as the belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics... (ADL). The persistence in the 1900 s of White Americans to hinder blacks from reaching their true equality was dominant in communities, specifically in the Southern States of the United States. The perception of race by the society and its citizens affected the lives of blacks, from how they felt, to the nature and the extent in which they participated in social life. By looking at the film entitled The Great Debaters, we can see that in order to persuade someone to do something, it is beneficial to create a sense of responsibility; this works because, making actions seem personally relevant is more effective than a generic response. Lloyd Bitzer employs that when trying to advocate for change individuals must illustrate a reality that will enable action. Individuals are often persuaded through measures that provoke a reaction and an urgency for change in a given situation. Bitzer discusses that a situation, specifically a rhetorical situation, comes into existence as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB) is the net rate of carbon accumulation by an ecosystem. It is the change in ecosystem carbon stock over time. Net ecosystem production (NEP) is the total amount of carbon moving into an ecosystem minus the total respiration of the ecosystem (GPP Recosytem). Where gross primary productivity (GPP) is the sum of all photosynthetic activity measured at the ecosystem scale. Decomposition is the conversion of dead organic matter into CO2, mineral nutrients, and organic compounds through the processes of leaching, fragmentation, and chemical alteration. For example, cellulose breakdown requires a suite of three different enzyme systems: endocellulases break down the internal bonds, the exocellulases remove the ends of the chains, this forms cellobiose, which can be absorbed, but is further broken down by cellobiase intercellularly to create ... In other words, he appears to suggest that some Christians attempt to hold on to the earthly commodities without realizing what is offered to them in the afterlife. While discussing the topic of Christian belief, Lewis discusses Christ s crucifixion and offers the following description of humility, Now the Christian belief is that if we somehow share the humility and suffering of Christ we shall also share in His conquest for death and find a new life after we have died and in it become perfect, and perfectly happy, creatures (p. 36). Something that is complex is further defined as a configuration consisting of interconnected or interwoven parts that are complicated. Complicated is then defined as that which is difficult to understand or analyze. And finally by definition, to understand means to know through experience and comprehend the nature, significance or intended meaning within a causal framework. So these emergent rules of complexity are not strictly physical laws in the Newtonian sense but rather arise from the logical constructs, functioning and control of the overall system directive which is in turn dependent on the governance of physical laws. Note the role of the observer in this definition and the reliance upon its ability to process and interpret information. Because of this dependence on a capacity of comprehension by the observer, a complex system can be considered organized or disorganized. Most people would agree that complex systems usually have many parts. However, the way those parts interrelate might be difficult to discern. In fact, there is somewhat of a disconnection between complexity and organization that centers around the observers understanding of the logical causal framework of the system. Warren Weaver posited that disorganized or disordered complexity exists when there are a large number of parts within the system that appeared to interact randomly. Like a mixed solution of chemicals in a glass beaker or gas molecules within a closed container. The emergent properties of such a system (color, temperature, viscosity, etc.) can be understood by solely using probability and statistical methods to describe the interactions of the individual components. By contrast organized or ordered complexity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some solutions include the improvement of funding and structure of public defender services to ensure each litigant receives proper attention, the reformation of the justice system to avoid disproportionate effects on the poor, collaboration with other services to expand accessibility, and increased promotion and incentives for attorneys to provide pro bono services. In the 1963 U.S. Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright, the Sixth Amendment s right to counsel became incorporated, and as a result, those who are indigent are entitled to a court appointed attorney to represent them in any courtroom. This landmark case led states to enhance their public defense systems because public defenders assist in the fight against crime and contribute to the effective operation of programs that may help reduce recidivism, thereby increasing the effectiveness of our justice system (Fabelo, 2001, p. 2). Ensuring that states allocate necessary funding and resources to their respective public defender systems will reduce individual public defenders caseloads. Policymakers examining the needs of public defender systems should use personal testimony from people who utilized the service, verdict and sentencing data, and public opinion polls as measures of ... The first time the show aired, it only saw 3 years before NBC canceled the show, and almost 20 years went past before it re aired in its new form. The cult following that kept the show alive still drives its success today. Compared to today s television, something can be said for the quality of Star Trek s production value. Critics often ridicule the show today, but behind the cheap looking sets and laughable dialogue and effects, the show was groundbreaking for its time in all different types of ways. It is hard to believe that cheap plywood sets and basic effects are used in one of the biggest science fiction shows of all time, but the show was written by highly regarded science fiction authors of the day. On top of the writers being well prestige, many of its production values, particularly costuming, were extremely high, despite a relatively small budget a weekly TV series normally sees. Critics who call the show cheesy ignore the fact that by the standards of the day, Star Trek was quite ahead of its time, and it effectively raised the bar, something that forced all science fiction television shows and movies to ...
