Sales promotions are marketing activities used to boost product or service sales, including advertising, consumer incentives, and trade deals. They aim to introduce new products, attract customers, induce more purchases, help firms compete, and increase off-season and inventory sales. There are three main types of sales promotions: consumer-oriented promotions which target existing and new customers; trade promotions which offer incentives to businesses; and sales force promotions which motivate the sales team. Common consumer promotion tools are free samples, coupons, premiums, money refunds, contests, bonus stamps, drawings, and bargain deals.
