cropping Program 2022-23
Plans For the Season
1. To clear at least 4ha of land at Panmure farm and put a total area of
25ha under crop production.
2. Each student to have 3 Pfumvudza Plots comprising of i)maize plot,
ii)sugar beans plot and iii)sunflower plot.
3. To plant the maize crop on the Pfumvudza and main field with the
first effective rains.
4. To produce enough produce for student and livestock consumption.
5. To sell surplus and get income to procure inputs for the following
season.
Achievements
• Managed to clear 1.5ha of land at Panmure farm.
• Each student had one Pfumvudza plot of maize.
• A total of 9ha was put under crop production i.e. maize and sugar
beans.
• Managed to produce enough maize for student consumption i.e 10t
of maize.
Challenges
• Faced delays on inputs supplies i.e fuel, seed, fertilisers and
herbicides.
• Students were unavailable to manage their plots since they were on
holiday.
• We experienced heavy floods this season which destroyed almost half
of the field as well as almost threatening human life.
• We also experienced a dry spell at silking stage.
• Labour and equipments shortages like knapsacks/ boom sprayers.
• Theft from the surrounding community due to shortage of security.

Recommendations
• Resources should be procured and delivered well in time so that
working program is rightfully followed.
• Construction of structures especially accommodation to speed up at
Panmure farm so that more staff members settle there to kick start
production and development since we are continuously facing fuel
and transport challenges.

Cropping Program For 2023-24 Season
Plans For 2023-24 Season
• To clear atleast 4ha of land at Pamnure Farm for crop production
before the coming rain season.
• To put a total of 30ha under crop production (7ha Panmure Farm and
23ha @ SOS Campus)
• Each student to have 3 Pfumvudza Plots i)grain, ii)legume and iii) oil
crop
• To have a broiler production contract at Panmure Farm with either
Irvines or Sarry company
• To expand our livestock units (Piggery, Goats, Beef and Dairy) utilizing
the land at Panmure Farm.
Achievement done so far:
• A horticulture garden with 100 000 king onion and 10 000
rape plants has been established.
• A work itinerary for land clearance at Panmure is already in
place.
• Crop and livestock budgets and a work itinerary for 2023-24
cropping season are now in place as well.
• A business proposal to source funding towards the broiler
production contract is being worked on.

  • 2. Plans For the Season 1. To clear at least 4ha of land at Panmure farm and put a total area of 25ha under crop production. 2. Each student to have 3 Pfumvudza Plots comprising of i)maize plot, ii)sugar beans plot and iii)sunflower plot. 3. To plant the maize crop on the Pfumvudza and main field with the first effective rains. 4. To produce enough produce for student and livestock consumption. 5. To sell surplus and get income to procure inputs for the following season.
  • 3. Achievements • Managed to clear 1.5ha of land at Panmure farm. • Each student had one Pfumvudza plot of maize. • A total of 9ha was put under crop production i.e. maize and sugar beans. • Managed to produce enough maize for student consumption i.e 10t of maize.
  • 4. Challenges • Faced delays on inputs supplies i.e fuel, seed, fertilisers and herbicides. • Students were unavailable to manage their plots since they were on holiday. • We experienced heavy floods this season which destroyed almost half of the field as well as almost threatening human life. • We also experienced a dry spell at silking stage. • Labour and equipments shortages like knapsacks/ boom sprayers. • Theft from the surrounding community due to shortage of security.

Recommendations • Resources should be procured and delivered well in time so that working program is rightfully followed. • Construction of structures especially accommodation to speed up at Panmure farm so that more staff members settle there to kick start production and development since we are continuously facing fuel and transport challenges. •

Plans For 2023-24 Season • To clear atleast 4ha of land at Pamnure Farm for crop production before the coming rain season. • To put a total of 30ha under crop production (7ha Panmure Farm and 23ha @ SOS Campus) • Each student to have 3 Pfumvudza Plots i)grain, ii)legume and iii) oil crop • To have a broiler production contract at Panmure Farm with either Irvines or Sarry company • To expand our livestock units (Piggery, Goats, Beef and Dairy) utilizing the land at Panmure Farm.

Achievement done so far: • A horticulture garden with 100 000 king onion and 10 000 rape plants has been established. • A work itinerary for land clearance at Panmure is already in place. • Crop and livestock budgets and a work itinerary for 2023-24 cropping season are now in place as well. • A business proposal to source funding towards the broiler production contract is being worked on.
