Kernel advantages for Istio realized with CiliumCynthia Thomas
Istio brings a myriad of options to provide routing rules, encryption, and monitoring for microservices, typically in container environments. Cilium provides accelerated network security using a modern kernel technology called BPF. Put the two together and what do you get? A distributed security solution enabling microservices traffic management, security, and monitoring while enforcing policy as close to the microservices as possible.
Cynthia Thomas and Romain Lenglet discuss the architectural and performance benefits of using Cilium with Istio and provide a demo of this BPF-based, Linux kernel technology. Cilium provides an API-aware security solution that can make a decision on every single microservice flow, with the ability to enforce protocols such as HTTP, Kafka, and gRPC. By addressing security policy at the API layer, you can enforce policy efficiently with kernel capabilities while reducing the attack surface in a microservices deployment.
With TeraStream, Deutsche Telekom builds a drastically simplified IP end to end architecture. As part of TeraStream, network I/O optimized datacenters were tightly integrated with the IP infrastructure – the Infrastructure Cloud. As TeraStream is an IPv6-only network where IPv4 is delivered as a service, produced in the Infrastructure Cloud, the Infrastructure Cloud also needs to support IPv6 natively. This presentation covers DT's early experience out of the TeraStream pilots in Croatia and Germany, as well as an overview on the solution we are currently implementing.

Summit 16: OPNFV on ARM - Hardware Freedom of Choice Has Arrived!OPNFV
Freedom of choice is one of the key concepts in the SDN and NFV revolution we are seeing today. OPNFV is at the heart of this revolution yet very limited freedom of choice has existed on the hardware architecture side. However, with the work done in the Armband project, ARM servers are now an alternative hardware architecture for Brahmaputra deployments. The Armband team has ported the OPNFV Fuel Project to support deployments on ARM servers. The necessary code changes have been upstreamed through the OPNFV armband project. End users are now able to download or build their own Brahmaputra OPNFV ISO ready for ARM and install it using available OPNFV documentation. In addition to this and to further the OPNFV VNF ecosystem, a full specification OPNFV Pharos lab based on ARM servers was built by Enea for running continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD). In this presentation, we will walk you through the experiences gained in this process, the challenges and how they were overcome and what is coming next.

Cilium – Kernel Native Security & DDOS Mitigation for Microservices with BPFCynthia Thomas
We have introduced Cilium at DockerCon US 2017 this year. Cilium provides application-aware network connectivity, security, and load-balancing for containers. This talk will follow up on the introduction and deep dive into recent kernel developments that address two fundamental questions: How can I provide application-aware security and routing efficiently without overhead embedded into every service? How can container hosts protect themselves from internal and external DDoS attacks? The solutions include:
kproxy: a kernel-based socket proxy which allows for application-aware routing and security enforcement with minimal overhead.
XDP: A lightning-fast packet processing datapath using BPF. The technology is intended for DDoS mitigation, load-balancing, and forwarding.
This talk will deep dive into these exciting technologies and show how Cilium makes BPF and these kernel features available on Linux for your Docker containers.
In the container ecosystem, there is perhaps no technology that has received more focus and attention than orchestration and scheduling. Mesos, Kubernetes, and Swarm have established themselves as the leading technology choices in this space.
In this talk, Sheng will discuss what he learned from working directly with hundreds of users who have deployed one of these frameworks. He will look at how these frameworks will continue to evolve and if there’re any gaps and opportunities in container orchestration and scheduling. Sheng will make a case that there are still room for innovation and new orchestration and scheduling frameworks will be created in the future. He will discuss what new frameworks might look like--the features, functionalities, and attributes that differentiate them from the mainstream frameworks today.

Cilium: Seattle Kubernetes MeetUp Dec 2017Cynthia Thomas
BPF (Berkeley Packet Filter) is becoming the fastest growing technology in the Linux kernel and is revolutionizing networking, security and tracing. At the same time, the rise of container-based orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is creating demand for routing, load-balancing & security infrastructure that is highly scalable, application-aware, and resilient.
This talk introduces the open source project Cilium - a modern networking and security platform for microservices. Cilium is built on top of BPF and provides Linux native networking and security services with application protocol awareness. Cilium works hand in hand with application proxies such as Envoy and the services management orchestration layer Istio to provide infrastructure services in a transparent manner and with minimal overhead. This talk will discuss the challenges of exposing services via APIs and the solution that Cilium provides to enforce least privilege security.

It will discuss the development model used, and how it differs from almost all "traditional" models of software development.
Presentation given at the 2017 LinuxCon China
Unikernel is a novel software technology that links an application with OS in the form of a library and packages them into a specialized image that facilitates direct deployment on a hypervisor. Comparing to the traditional VM or the recent containers, Unikernels are smaller, more secure and efficient, making them ideal for cloud environments. There are already lots of open source projects like OSv, Rumprun and so on. But why these existing unikernels have yet to gain large popularity broadly? We think Unikernels are facing three major challenges: 1. Compatibility with existing applications; 2. Lack of production support (e.g. monitoring, debugging, logging); 3. Lack of compelling use case. In this presentation, we will review our investigations and exploration of if-how we can convert Linux as Unikernel to eliminate these significant shortcomings, plus some explorations of coordinating and cooperating with hypervisor.

Location Tracking of Android Device Based on SMS.iCreateWorld
If an android user wants to know the location of Android device then user has to send SMS to designated device. So that he can locate device either by making it ring or gets actual location of device using GPS or network provider.
For college going students, employees of a company or for a common man, bus is the most comprehensive and affordable mode of transport. The use of bus for transport reduces private vehicle usage and thus reduces fuel consumption. It also curbs traffic congestion. The user usually wants to know the accurate arrival time of the bus. Long time waiting at the bus stops discourage the use of buses. Also many unpredictable factors delay the schedule of a bus like harsh weather situation, traffic conditions etc. Towards this aim of reducing this problem, we are proposing a project which will assist the bus travellers in predicting bus timings. The system described uses DriverSideApp, ClientSideApp and a server.
In this project, we propose an innovative method for predicting the bus information. No specific device is required for this purpose. Our sole objective is to build a application that will help student to access the current location of the bus. Moving forward our application focus on to providing them more convenience with bus schedules, bus location information so that they may not get delayed. . Further, the recent advent and popularity of Android technology motivates us to create an Android application for the same.

Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
3. Broadcasting Live
When broadcasting live to a server no file
actually exists, although you can archive as
you broadcast.
The encoder will compress and send media to
the server in realtime.
User connecting to the content has no means
of modifying the playback.
