Routine Problems
1. How many days in 30 weeks?
Solution:
1 week = 7 days
7 x 30 = 210 days
There are 210 days in 30 weeks.
2. A rectangular lot has a length of 20
cm and a width of 10 cm. What is the
perimeter of the rectangular lot?
Solution:
P = 2L + 2W
= (2 x 20cm) + (2 x 10cm)
= 40 cm + 20 cm
P = 60 cm
3. A rectangular pond has an area of
56 cm2. If the width of the pond is
7cm, what is its length?
Solution:
56 cm2 ÷ 7 cm = 8 cm
The length of the rectangular pond is
8 cm.

Non-Routine Problems
1. There are 18 animals in a pet
store. Some are birds and
some are dogs. If there are 50
legs in all, how many birds
and how many dogs are
there?
Solution:
18 x 2 = 36
50 – 36 = 14 excess legs
14 ÷ 2 = 7
18 – 7 = 11
There are 7 dogs and 11 birds in a pet store.
2. If the divisor is 1 000 and the quotient
is 2 with the a remainder of 346, What is
the dividend?
Solution:
1 000 x 2 = 2 000
2 000 + 346 = 2 346
The dividend is 2 346.
3. Jenny went to the market to buy
kilos of rice which cost Php 52.00 per
kilo and whole chicken which cost Php
170.00 per kilo. If she has Php 1 000, how
many kilos of rice and whole chicken can
she buy and still has a change of Php
60.00?
Solution:
Guess and Check Method
Php 1 000 - Php 60 = Php 940 (money to be
spend for the whole
chicken and kilo of rice)
Php 170 x 4 = Php 680
Php 52 x 5 = Php 260
Php 680 + Php 260 = Php 940
Jenny will buy 5 kilos of rice and 4 kilos of whole
chicken and she still has Php 60 change.
4. A batch of cookies can be
divided into equal shares among

over. What is the least number of
cookies that the batch could
have?

hour, 75 – 60 = 15. Then add 1 to 9 = 10
