Essay on How Video Games Help Society
Lets play a money making game! The Legend of Zelda. Video Games are revolutionizing society.
They have changed for the better, transitioning from mindless wastes of time, to useful tools of
learning, video games are revolutionizing, and are becoming smarter, more complex, and
healthier. Video games are not just simple, mindless forms of entertainment anymore; they can
now teach, inspire, and provide the player with life skills, or the knowledge needed to start a
successful career. Many games companies like Electronic Arts (EA) are changing the content of
their games. The successful game franchise by EA, The Sims has developed games like The Sims

7) All of those skills are helpful in life, and if you give those skills to a 6 year old, he will have a
greater chance to succeed. Rusel DeMaria, author of the book Reset: Changing The Way We Look
At Video Games, explains how video games can create good learning environments. In this heavily
researched book, DeMaria provides details on theories of human play, combining them with
research on modern learning habits to identify how and why video games can generate such
effective learning environments (par.8). DeMaria s analysis breaks down the learning power of
games into five interrelating components: motivation, immersion, identification, interactivity, and
choice. These five factors combine uniquely in video games. More so, arguably, than in books,
lectures, or educational videos. And players want to engage with games, and potentially learn from
them, because of the feedback, in the form of scores, or even through interaction with other
characters, which provides motivation. Graphics, sounds, and overall ambience immerse players.
Immersion, engagement, feedback these are all aspects of good learning environments. Finally,
DeMaria asserts that games can teach players to model complex systems and learn behaviors,
languages, skills, and ideas. How s that for a potential sales, or other employee, training tool? (par.

shown to first time employees like at McDonalds. Would

Social Aspects Of Poverty
Background
Poverty is a collective condition of poor groups and individuals. The results of poverty has many
faces and changes from place to place. Poverty can be defined as the inability to meet basic needs
including food, clothing and shelter though it s not limited to just monetary things. Individuals
suffering from poverty are faced with limited access to education, jobs, healthcare, and protection
against violence. Poverty looks different to every individual affected by it but in order to provide
them with the opportunity to reach their full potential we as social workers must understand what
poverty truly is and identify social indicators to track education, health, access to services and social
exclusion.
In reality, there s a general deficiency in analyzing the extent and causes of food insecurity and
vulnerability amongst those affected by poverty and specific population groups. This deficiency
causes a lack for a targeted policy and program development. Often times, only certain aspects of
the problem are addressed, leaving other aspects unnoticed, overlooked or neglected. The problems
associated with poverty correspond with one another and can lead to other economical struggles
which causes an exclusion within our society such as economic inequality. Fair distribution in
resources can result in the reduction of poverty. We all pay a price for poverty regardless of how
we may feel. The increased cost of systems such as health, justice and education can in fact impact
our economy. Distributing resources will result in higher productivity leading to economic growth.
Though we have a lack of consistency when implementing polices, strategies and interventions
aimed at alleviating food insecurity, vulnerability and poverty.
Importance of the problem
People living in poverty suffer not only material deprivation, but also the hardships and diminished
life prospects that come with being poor. Childhood poverty often means growing up without the
advantages of a stable home, high quality schools, or consistent nutrition. Adults in poverty are
often hindered by inadequate skills and education, leading to limited wages and job opportunities.
And the high costs of housing, healthcare, and other necessities

Psycho-American War
The Russo Japanese war began on February 8th, 1904 when the Japanese launched a surprise attack
on the Russian fleet and ended September 5th, 1905 with the treaty of Portsmouth led by Theodore
Roosevelt. The war had a substantial effect on both of its participants, the Russians and the
Japanese, but first this essay will talk about the events leading up to it, such as the Russian
encroachment. In 1898 the Chinese and Russians finally negotiated a convention after three months
by which china would lease to Russia Port Arthur in Talianwan, a tremendously strategic point
which would be Russia s sole warm water port on the coast of the pacific, and its surrounding
waters. Immediately after their agreement, Russia took no time in occupying the Port. A year later,
Russia began to build the southern Manchurian railroad to further consolidate their position at Port
Arthur. The building of the railroad led to be one of the causes of the Boxer rebellion. Because of
the Boxer rebellion, the uprising of a secret organization in china against the spread of western and
Japanese influence there, the Russians and Japanese had both contributed troops along with Britain,
Austria Hungary, The United States, India, Germany, France, and Italy to quell the uprisings and to

Analysis Of Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity
In Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity (dir. Billy Wilder, 1944), character Walter Neff (Fred
MacMurray) becomes enchanted by the seductive Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck).
However, through an act of lust, Neff gets involved in a murderous scheme with Dietrichson. The
entirety of the movie is a flashback as Neff recalls his scheme. He records his guilty testimony onto
a dictation machine, which is partially overheard by his clever boss, Barton Keyes (Edward G.
Robinson). Double Indemnityis composed of several shots, scenes, and sequences that intentionally
provoke anxiety and alienation; these instances also contain elements that have a peculiar
combination of realism and oneirism. In one of the earliest scenes, Walter Neff meets... Show more

Then, in the house, the lighting becomes noticeably dim, with only a little bit of sunshine
coming in from the outside. This lighting adds to the hazy quality of the scene and the overall
oneiric atmosphere Wilder was trying to achieve. Similar to how the hazy quality adds to the
oneiric atmosphere of the shots in the Dietrichson s household, the elements of the mise en
scГЁne contribute to the realistic characteristics of the first shot. Here, the viewer is presented
with a seemingly perfect upper class neighborhood full of California Spanish houses. The
children outside are playing baseball and an ice cream truck drives by, representing the epitome
of the American Dream. The image is sharp and clear, with the light source coming from the
right. However, the lighting is practically uniform in this shot. There are several hues and colors
present in this shot, which is consistent with the realm of reality. Each frame of the camera is
busy and cluttered, and there is a great deal of movement from both the props and the actors.
However, it can also be argued that the first shot though fairly realistic is interrupted by oneiric
qualities. The first shot is equitably realistic; however, German expressionism lingers in the design
of the set, adding oneiric qualities to the shot. One of the most pivotal of German Expressionist
cinema, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene, 1920) presents distorted environments. For
example, while one would expect sidewalks and

Mussel Research Paper
Mussels are incredibly fascinating creatures that deserve some investigation. I ve had the
opportunity to learn about mussels from local experts in state and federal government agencies
and from my colleagues in academia, who can speak much more accurately to mussel biology than
I, but I will enumerate some key points that make mussels worth thinking about. Mussels are much
more than living rocks (although this is what they most resemble); mussel shells come in a wide
variety of shapes, sizes, and surface textures. Adult mussel shell length ranges from 1 to 10 inches
for different species. With common names like warty back , threeridge , heelsplitter or pocketbook
, you can imagine the shell sculpture for each of these species with bumps,... Show more content on

Mussels do have one foot, which allows them to anchor into sediment or crawl along slowly
(generally inches to feet a day at most). Unlike oysters or clams, freshwater mussels have a
unique life cycle that depends on a parasitic relationship with a host fish. It is this relationship
that allows mussels to spread throughout a river network. Female mussels release mussel larvae
(called glochidia) which must attach to the gills of a suitable host where they will grow and
develop for several weeks before dropping off of the fish as juvenile mussels. Many mussel species
have evolved intricate methods to attract the appropriate fish host to ensure successful attachment
of glochidia. These methods range from displaying elaborate lures that mimic fish, to developing
packages of glochidia that resemble fish food, to physically capturing the unsuspecting fish host
long enough to infest the fish with glochidia. These adaptations are next to impossible to observe
in the wild without a snorkel, scuba gear, and/or lots of time and the expertise on when and where
to look, but the curious can check out the array of videos online (http://molluskconservation.org
/MUSSELS/Adaptation.html). As they grow, mussels can keep a record of the water chemistry
and environmental conditions in their shells. Like trees, mussels develop rings as they grow. The

Formal Concept Analysis ( Fca ) Essay
2.7.2Formal Concept Analysis Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), also known as Galois lattice
mining, is a branch of lattice theory that allows identification of meaningful groupings of objects
that have common attributes (Wille, 2009; Ganter Wille, 2012). It is a data analysis method which
enables the discovery of hidden knowledge in the data in the form of concepts. Godin, Gecsei, and
Pichet (1989) have demonstrated the effectiveness of using FCA for indexing and retrieval as an
alternative to hierarchical classification and boolean query based systems. In FCA, the data is
represented as a formal context which contains objects, attributes and a binary relation between
them. FCA represents relationships by means of formal concepts and captures them in a concept
lattice. A formal concept in the lattice contains a set of attributes (Intent) and objects (Extent). Thus,
it gives a cluster of objects having common attributes. Definition 1. (нђ№н‘њн‘џн‘љн‘Ћн‘™

great impact on Coopers life. Cooper covered hundreds of stories, in the beginning he is in Sri
Lanka, the morning after Christmas. He explains why the tsunami has occurred. He cannot

craving to see. After his brother died, he thought seeing death was normal for him. He put
himself into those dangerous situations just to see more. I find it, that, the main conflict of this
part was the fact that he was searching for a conflict. Once he finally gets his hands on breaking

what normal was. But Cooper, however, did not know what that was. Instead the second he
found out about the war in Iraq, he was on a plane, not knowing at all where he would go from
there. This I felt was the most crucial part in defining the direction his life went to. His need to
see blood and bodies was becoming into a conflict itself. He described himself as beastly. He
forgot what being normal was. This was rather disturbing, and very negative direction to where his
life was heading. This book is almost to

Parable of Despair
The world is dying.
There is too much injustice.
We need to fix it. Thomas Sweeny Wong
The future is tough to predict. Parable of the Sower is a very well written science fiction novel by
Octavia Butler. The setting is California in the year 2025. The world is not prosperous anymore
and has turned into a poverty stricken place. There are countless homeless people, jobs are scarce,
and there are very few communities of homes. The few communities that are still occupied have
huge walls with barbed wire and laser wire surrounding them. There are robberies, murders, and
rapes just about every day. People walk the streets naked and bloody because their clothes were
stolen or they could never find any. Some people live in the hills like animals. They kill anything
that comes along, human or not, for food and to protect their territory. Some of these people are
drug addicts who create fires for their own satisfaction. Everyone who has a chance to live must
carry a gun so no one can harm or try to do anything to them. In this society the police do not help
because you have to pay them to come to the scene of a crime. Most people cannot afford to pay
their fees so they handle whatever they can on their own. The protagonist of this story, Lauren,
decides to leave this society for something better an forms a spiritual group called Earthseed. The
word earthseed is actually a metaphor.

also gains a benefit, which would not be immediately obvious, of learning about the upper class
world. This is definitely a benefit, as it will be useful to her in the future for her translations of
other people s behaviour. She has learnt how upper class people treat their inferiors; My betters
that bully me and don t want me (p. 129). This can often show the measure of people; depending
on how they treat those less fortunate than themselves. In contrast, Eliza also encounters a
number of disadvantages working with Higgins. Firstly, she was taught badly in the manners of
upper class people, although she did actually learn correctly through Colonel Pickering, such as;
things about standing up, and taking off your hat (p. 122). She decided that Higgins bad manners
were his way (p. 122), as he behaved the same to everyone. However, she was taught badly by

relationship with Higgins was Eliza s treatment. Higgins treated her as nothing more than a servant

Symbolism in A Doll House
Introduction
In a drama, symbolism is one of the important literary devices that is commonly employed by many
play writers. It imparts the play s hidden meaning and portrays emotions and conflicts in the
characters. Equally, Ibsen s play, A Doll House makes an extensive use of symbols which does not
only make the play captivating but also enables the reader to get a deeper understanding of the
underlining ideas. Indeed, Symbolism is a literary device that is evident throughout Ibsen s play.
Examples of symbolism in the play include the Christmas tree, the images of the stove, macaroons,
visiting cards and lighting lamb. Perhaps Ibsen s play is one of ... Show more content on

In this house, the way Norah reacts to her husband portrays the dollhouse treatment that she
received in marriage.
The nicknames that Torvald calls her wife Norah are a symbol of how he views his wife to be
inferior to him. They also portray the weak relationship that exists between them. Examples of
these names include spendthrift, squirrel, and sweet tooth. Certainly, the names denote Torvald s
power that he has over Norah. When he calls Norah squirrel, it means that Torvald does not see
his wife a human being but rather an animal. This is evidenced in In Act One when he asks Is that
my squirrel rummaging around (ToМ€rnqvist 45). Norah is seen to agree to this, but she does not
even say anything is concerning the nickname. Here, Torvald has power over his wife and views
himself to be superior compared to Norah. On the other hand, Norah knows that these names
downgrade her, but she chooses to accept them.
One of the key symbols from the play is the Christmas tree. This is a tree that is decorated during
the Christmas festive season. It is a symbol of the position that Norah has in her household.
According to the play, it depicts that Norah is merely an object that is pleasing for one to look at
and she adds liveliness to the household. Notably, the reader is able to draw a certain parallelism
between this tree and Norah. Norah does instruct her maid that children do not see the tree until
when it is well decorated. Again, he tells

Bhaskar Bharti Directed By Pavan Kaul And Manoj Kotian
Behind every working woman, there is a large pile of unwashed laundry. This is a famous quote
by Barbara Dale . What we can be understand from this quote is that, women face a lot of
problems each and every day both in the society as well as in the working place. They are always
shown with a transparent lens criticizing each and every act of their s negatively. All this is
explained and illustrated through an Indian romantic comedy and feminist show titled Bhaskar
Bharti directed by Pavan Kaul and Manoj Kotian. This show explores how women are forced to
face with enormous variety of problems in the workplace by portraying the leading man named
Bhaskar as a playboy who cheats all women. Eventually, one of his girlfriends (whom he promised
to marry) curses him to turn into a woman, so that he may understand the pain and anguish that he
has caused her and other women. The curse comes true, and Bhaskar transforms into a woman that
night; it is, in fact, a punishment by the god to be transformed into a beautiful woman named Bharti
. The remaining story centers on how a man in the feet of woman undergoes the problems in the life
of woman at the workplace, society and henceforth, understands and changes drastically later during
the course of time. Bhaskar Bharti represents women s struggles with genderdominance and
pressures in working place and society by proving that the power should not be used to degrade
women, and that sisterhood is the ultimate power.

Ocean Currents Are Affected By Global Warming
The answer is yes. During this quarter we learned a lot about global warming and its disturbing
effects on ocean and climate. Ocean currents that are caused by thermohaline circulation are
affected by global warming due to glacial melting in Antarctica and Greenland which cause
abundant freshwater input into thermohaline circulation and thus mixing of freshwater with saline
water causes the current to slow down and even possibly to shut down, for example, ocean current
such as Gulf Stream. Likewise, global warmingcauses tidal range change due to sea level rise,
which is caused by the same factor of glacial melting. NOAA suggests that tidal datums must be
updated at least every 20 25 years due to global sea level rise. According to Doeke

Interest Rate Risk. Interest can be explained as the charge paid by a borrower for to lender for the
use of a lender s money (Ritter 2000 p. 598). The interest rate is simply the percentage of the sum a
borrower has to pay the lender on top of the sum which is being lent for an agreed period of time.
For example, if a company borrows ВЈ100,000 from a bank at 8% interest rate with payment due in
12 months. By the end of the 12 months the company then has to pay the bank ВЈ108,000
(Appendix B, i). What types of interest rate risks do multinational companies face? One type of
interest rate risks is the transaction risk. Since the interest rates constantly rise and fall
companies often fix their interest rates on loans for long periods of time. As a result of this the
company looses money if the interest rate falls below their fixed rate during the period the loan is
for. For example, in 1998 a company borrows ВЈ2,000,000 for a 5 year period with fixed interest
rate of 8% payable annually. Each year the company then has to pay interest of ВЈ160,000. If the
interest rate in 2000 falls to 6%, the company is still paying 8% interest, and will consequently
loose ВЈ40,000 annually. Other types of interest rate risks are translation risk and economic risk.
Translation risk relates to fact that changes in the interest rates will change the value of financial
assets. If people expect the interest rate to increase, the

Essay On Louis Zamperini
This book leaves a special place in my heart do to its patriotism and will power. When you read
this book it leaves you wanting to read more, It s a good read all the way through. This book
tells a story about a soldier and Olympic runner named Louis Zamperini who becomes a captive
to the Japanese and is imprisoned and question throughout his time there. While he is there he is

Application Authentication And The Key Role For The User...
Introduction:
User Authentication plays the key role for the users to make use of the resources available in any
environment. With the advancements in technology, it has become quite easy for a person to find
out ways to access the data of the other person. It is very important to verify the true identity of
the person trying to access his/her data. The concerned organization or the business group has to
make sure that the person trying to access is the right user of the data and care must be taken in
such a way that the resources are not used for the wrong purposes. Making use of the correct
resources by the right person in a right way is the purpose behind the authentication. A customer is
mainly concerned about the security of his data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different authentication methods have their own user identification rates and the accuracy of an
authentication method depends on the environment being implemented. User authentication can be
performed by considering various physical human aspects like the typing biometric features,
gestures, lip features. Technologies like CBAT which is implemented in the server machine, Visual
authentication based on a single sign on token also are used for implementing the user
authentication methods. CBAT and Visual authentication methods need extra circuitry hardware to
be implemented and they make use of the software applications which are installed over them.
Section 2:
The authentication of users is done by taking in to account their physical features, as there are
fewer chances of different people having the same features. Physical aspects vary from individual
to individual. So the biometric features, Lip features, gestures can be used to solve the problems
associated with security, as they are unchangeable and are owned to a particular person. The
biometric used is the typing keystroke pattern features. The keystroke typing pattern varies from
person to person [6].The core concept of biometric methodology is that the input data from the
user is taken and the key stroke data is collected to calculate the key features. The calculated key
features are used in the creation of samples and compared against the classifiers which are

Throughout this class I have learn many different writing styles. We used APA form of writing
to type our paper and essay. I have also learned that it s good to take your time and spend more
time thinking about what to write, other than just righting a paper right off back. I have learned
that it s not a good idea to write a paper on the day it s done, that s more like a ruff daft. My
teacher have helped me understand different point of writing. Which all writing deal with an ethos,
pathos and logos, either one or all of them will run through anything that tell you anything in

facts to agree with this person. As a class we have read articles, bio from many people to understand
that it s more then what the person is writing. Reading between lines and analyzing a part of the
story can tell you more then what the writer is saying. Working together to understand something
and work better than being alone thinking about a situation you can t understand.
I have wrote many different kind of essay and paper. From a point of view of three person, first
person, what you think this person is telling you, to writing how you feel, what changed your life

Abstinence Education
Sexual education in public schools is one of the most controversial issues in education. In today s
society, it is almost impossible to ignore the responsibility of informing adolescence about the
issues of sex. Since the lack of knowledge, leads to an array of issues ranging from teen pregnancy
to sexually transmitted diseases. The debate over whether to implement sex educationin American
schools has ended. The question is whether comprehensive sex education classes are more
impressionable than those stressing abstinence only.
Numerous individuals believe abstinence education is the essential key to reducing out of wedlock
childbearing, preventing sexually transmitted disease, and improving emotional and physical well
being among the nation s youth (Rector). In addition, 2010 study from the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services shows that over 60% of teens believe sex should be reserved for

The Moral Universe And Moral Tradition
Christianity has been enculturated by the African people to be truly African and truly Christian .
By doing this through various practices it makes the religion profoundly colorful and vivid so that
the Biblical stories and memories come to life through the village and its people. There is a
resonating deep understanding by the community that their moralityis steeped in their traditions and
ancestral worship. The people understand that everything comes from and flows from Godand that
the ancestors (also referred to as the living dead) have a vital part in not just their individual
development but to move further as a community. In African Traditional Religion, the answers to

However, the more bad things you do the more bad karma that is accrued and therefore, the more
likely you are to be reincarnated into something lesser than what you were. Moving forward we can
see that there is an immanent need for a moral universe in any context of the word because of the
way humans needs to categorize things in order to understand them.
In Africa, there is an establishment of both context and content of African morality and ethics.
God is both the Giver of life and the power behind everything there is and when we take a look at
the universe there is a composition of divine and human hierarchy that helps the African people
create perceptions of the universe that the world is a sacred abode of God and their ancestors.
Due to the way the African people view the world, human action can be viewed almost as a
sacred aspect of Christianity, thus making the way they teach their religion a dynamic part of who
they are and who they will be. Making the religion not just about orthodoxy but also about
orthopraxy, as we discussed in class on various occasions. One also has to be born into it and learn
it from childhood through normal socializations.

Kant Good Will
The value of an action varies in regards to the qualifications of such. Mill found value in the
consequentialist motives of an instrumental utilitarianistic will; Socrates emphasized the
refinement of virtues in the proceeding actions of good men. Immanuel Kant took a differing
approach to this, boldly stating that a good will is the only thing with full value in itself (394);
making the claim that the source of value lies solely within the motive of the action itself. While
earlier philosophers emphasized happiness as the end goal of all humanity, Kant sought after the
fallacy in these claims. He found deontology as the final remaining factor uncorrupted by the
possibility of human perversion, leading to a good will being the only marker of... Show more

If, even with man s best effort, nothing is achieved, any process of good will must be regarded
as such (394). This marks a definite shift in philosophical thought; the consideration of good
without any remark on the consequences of one s actions and thoughts. Kant does not emphasize
the creation of happiness as the goal of one s choices, since happiness is a subjective marker open
to corruption (396). Multiple actions can produce this result, while the same action can differ in
its consequences. This uncertainty necessitates a different, more concrete definition of moral
value. Value then, can be derived in the purity of one s motivation. Regardless of the outcome of
such, intentions of good will can never be unappreciated as lesser than. It exists as the foundation
of all that can be regarded as valuable, and must be the first step in the evaluation of the quality of
one s actions. When one acts from duty, rather than simply alongside of it, their actions have moral
value (397 8). Duty stands as the definitive motivator of one s action, of which the true intent can

Social Anxiety And Social Depression
Social anxiety is condition that has been described since the days of Hippocrates. Hippocrates
described an individual who would avoid social outings due to being timid, bashful, and fear of
being misused, disgraced, make a fool of himself, or being sick and believes he is constantly being
watched. Will the man who suffers from social anxietyreact differently to mistakes based on social
context? A study by Barker, Troller Renfree, Pine, Fox in 2015 attempted to test that. Baker et al.
tried to measure the error related negativity, an event potential that occurs 50 ms after the faulty
response. The purpose of the study was to see if there is a relationship between the magnitude of
the ERN and social anxiety.
Barker et al. used two groups of individuals. The first group was a group that hardly exhibit social
anxiety and the second group was a group that exhibited high levels of social anxiety. The first
group has 10 males and 11 females and the second group had 11 males and 11 females. The
individuals were selected by using the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale. Participants in the study
also completed the Penn State Worry Questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory. The reason
why Barker et al. selected the PSWQ is because it has shown high internal reliability in clinical and
normative populations and has demonstrated the ability to be able to distinguish between the
constructs of worry, anxiety, and depression. The BDI was selected because it has shown the ability

RenГ© Descartes The Meditations On First Philosophy
The Meditations on First Philosophy written by RenГ© Descartes in 1641 is a philosophical
treatise composed of 6 parts. Throughout the Meditations Descartes, the Meditator, first disregards
everything that he believes to be certain and tries to decipher what is truly certain.
The First Meditation begins with the Meditator reflecting on the amount of false concepts he has
believed during his lifetime, and how these have impacted his body and mind. He decides that he is
going to resolve his concerns by ridding himself of everything he thinks and knows, and to start
from the foundation and build up his knowledge only on certain grounds. He acknowledges that
everything he has known to be true comes through the senses which can be deceiving especially
when dreaming as objects and circumstances seem real. The Meditator seems content stating that
he is awake by the fire but also is aware that he has dreamt of this same situation before. He then
goes on to state that even dream images are a product of a waking experience and wonders how
one is to tell if what he is living is a dream or reality. The Meditator realizes that nothing was ever

Chain Store Case Study
Four elements must exist to prove there is a valid contract between the chain store and Sam
Stevens. These four elements include the agreement, consideration, contractual capacity and legal
object. The first element of the agreement would be deemed to exist if one person makes an offer
and the other party accepts that offer. In this case, Sam did verbally agreed to send the 1,000 units
to the chain store; that element does count toward a contract. The second element of the
consideration would be deemed to exist if each party gets something in exchange for their promise

only the minor can void the contract, not the adult who entered into the contract. When a minor
shows intent to rescind a contract by either words or action, the whole contract is voided. If a
person is emancipated, they have legal control of themselves and can enter into a contract. In
this case, Sam is of age to sign a contract agreement with the store; this is a valid element. The

Hypothesis Testing
Hypothesis Testing
Hypothesis testing is basically a process that uses statistical inference to test claims about
population parameters. In hypothesis testing we begin by making a tentative assumption about a
population parameter. This assumption is called the null hypothesis and is denoted by Ho. We then
define another hypothesis, called the alternative hypothesis, which is the opposite of what is stated
is the null hypothesis. The alternative hypothesis is denoted by Ha. The hypothesis testing
procedure involves using data from a sample to test the competing claims indicated by the null and
alternate hypotheses.
Testing the hypothesis is similar to a criminal trail. Ho: The defendant is innocent Ha: The... Show

Testing this will entail taking a sample of the 2 liter bottles and measuring their contents. In terms
of the hypotheses formulation you give the company the benefit of the doubt and assume that their
claim is true. Using this approach the hypothesis will be stated as given below: H0: [pic] 67 Ha:
[pic] 67
In a situation where we are testing the validity of an assumption, the null hypothesis is generally
formulated based on the assumption. The alternate hypothesis is formulated so that the rejection of
the null will provide statistical evidence that the stated assumption is incorrect.
Decision Making
A hypothesis testing situation involving decision making occurs when a decision maker must
choose between two courses of action, one associated with the null hypothesis and the other with
the alternate hypothesis. For example, on the basis of a sample of parts from a shipment that has
just been received, a quality control inspector must decide whether to accept the shipment or return
it to the supplier because it does not meet specifications. Assume that a specification for the part
indicates a mean length of 1 inch per part is required. If the average length of the part is greater
than or less than the 1inch standard, the parts will cause quality problems. In this case the null and
alternative hypotheses would be formulated as follows: H0: [pic]=

Critique the Moral Aspects of Leadership
Introduction
This paper is about the lack of moral and ethical leadership of Tyco International s former highest
paid chief executive officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski (Kaplan, 2009). Tyco International is a
business leader in Global Fire Safety and Security Solutions. Tyco s United States headquarters is in
Princeton, New Jersey and the Corporate Headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. According to
Kaplan (2009), Dennis Kozlowski reigned over a decade as an ambitious CEO who had earned the

In June 2002, Kozlowski was accused by the Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau, of

Cesar Chavez are just some ways people can fight for civil rights today. One effective way to
fight for civil rights are boycotts. Cesar Chavez, an activist and farm labor worker, fought for the

that boycotts can work and be successful. Although boycotts are not the only way you can fight

Furthermore, reverb was used as well because as you listen to the music you can hear the
acoustic guitar reflection even after he has played the note. This song fits perfect into John

Rochel who is an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira who is a Syrian descent Muslim, are both public

to realize that they have more in common with each other than they think. Rochel and Nasira are

pressures from their families. Both women are presented with many choices for potential husbands;
however, ultimately, they choose whom they want to marry, as in any other marriage. Arranged

Analysis Of The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Travelling to the year 802,701 presents a world where human intelligence has declined and species
have simplified. The time traveller recounts his experiences in this changed world. The two
species, the Eloi and the Morlocks, represent the way humans from Wells s time have evolved. In
H.G. Wells s renowned book, The Time Machine, Wells conveys his ideas of the future of mankind
while simultaneously critiquing his own Victorian society through his skillful use of precise
diction and intense descriptions. As a means for Wells to convey his ideas, he tells the story
through his character, the time traveller, who gains credibility and frames the main story of the
book. Early on, Wells establishes that the time traveller was one of those men... Show more content

He explains that he had travelled time and after dinner, he begins the story: I don t mind telling
you the story, but I can t argue... Most of it will sound like lying. So be it! It s true every word of
it, all the same. I was in my laboratory at four o clock... (Wells 16). As the time traveller dives
into his story, Wells puts precision in the unessential and vagueness in the essential... and
conveys admirably the just amount of conviction (Bergonzi 191). His art with description
immerses the reader completely into this unbelievable, yet completely plausible story. By
establishing the time traveller as a credible man and having the story told through the credible
character, Wells concretely conveys his ideas of the future and, eventually, his critiques on his
era s society. The time traveller s story begins upon his arrival to the year of 802,701A.D., where
he instantly begins speculating theories about the future world. My general impression of the
world I saw... was of a tangled waste of beautiful bushes and flowers... Nevertheless, the general
effect was extremely rich and picturesque (Wells 23). Wells describes the future world as a
tangled waste of beauty, foreshadowing the decline of society as a whole that he discusses later.
As his story progresses, the time traveller continues to use great detail and precise word choice to
convey specific deeper meanings along with each part of his adventure.

Japan Vs England
The Middle Ages, also known as the medieval period lasted from the 500 to the 1500 CE for
England. But for Japan, it lasted from 1185 until 1868 CE. Even though Japan and England are
on the opposite side of the world, this two countries both experienced medieval period with few
similarities and differences. They experienced it about at the same time as each other. Japan is
made of four islands which are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. It is surrounded by the
Sea of Okhotsk, East China Sea, Sea of Japan and Pacific Ocean. The neighbours of this Country
are China and Korea. Unlike Japan, England hasn t got islands, the adjoining japan are Scotland
and wales. The seas that surrounded England are Norwegian Sea, Irish Sea, Celtic Sea, English
Channel, and North Sea. Japan the country with harsh and strict ruled to be followed is part of Asia

Proposed Health Care Plans Of Two 2016 Presidential...
It is highly visible that the United States lacks an affordable, universal health care plan. Compared
to other countries America is lagging behind. The improvement of access to care has become of
high importance to the betterment of society and the country s health care outcome. This paper will
describe the three major problems that exist in the United Stateshealth care. In addition, it will
explore the proposed health care plans of two 2016 presidential candidates and the position they
take in regards the big issues.
The uninsured and acquiring access to health care is one of the problems that the United States
faces in regards to health care. An obstacle that individuals face is that gaining access to health
care is linked to having a job. However, the problem does not stop there. The problem continues in
the form that not every job gives people access to health care. Many employers will stop from
offering individuals full time status because then they would have to offer some type of insurance
plan. Thus, employers often hire people as part time so as to not have to face giving people
benefits they may deem too costly. Inherently, people are finding themselves without insurance due
to the fact that acquiring health care is contingent on having a job. What does this mean for the
jobless? Based on the linkage between health care access and being employed, it is rather visible
that the unemployed would be faced with being uninsured and difficulty acquiring access.

John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Analysis
In 1630, Puritan leader John Winthrop delivered perhaps the most famous sermon in American
history entitled A Model of Christian Charity, in which he stressed to his fellow Puritans to
adopt a sense of unity by setting aside self interest for the sake of the community (Cohen, 2).
Winthrop s idea of putting community first has played a major role in American history, but as
Winthrop probably knew would happen, his idea of unity has always been at odds with those of
self interest; as America is very much a history of these competing forces. The forces of those
willing to put aside their own interest for unity, the common good, and for the preservation of
the Union vs. those who have pursued their own selfish ways. This paper will offer insights into
how Winthrop s remarks have played out during the first half of American history by examining
certain individuals and events that have followed along with Winthrop s idea, or those who have
posed a challenge to it. Twenty three years before Winthrop gave his sermon conflict over self
interest vs. the common good was being played out in Jamestown. Jamestown had been
established in 1607 as a purely economic venture as Englishmen traveled to the New World in
pursuit of riches, following in the footsteps of the Spanish. These men were consumed with their
own self interest of finding gold and becoming rich as opposed to working for the betterment of the
colony, causing Jamestown to teeter on the edge of extinction for nearly a

Reasons Why The Driving Age Should Not Be Raised To 18
Most teenagers look forward to the big 16 for numerous reasons. There are lots of factors for this
reason, including, more responsibilities, more independence, and one of the big ones, getting a
drivers licenses. The age limits for driving have been debated on for such a long time now. The age
limit for drivingvaries according to what country you re living in. In my opinion, the driving age
in the United States should not be raised to age 18 because I believe that age has nothing to do
with responsibility, getting to and from school and curricular activities can be hard without your
own transportation, and not all families have a person eligible to drive.
People believe that the age 16 is too young to have such a big responsibility. In reality

Governmental Agencies and Terrorism
After the 9/11 attacks the word terrorism became etched in the worlds vocabulary. The word
Terrorism immediately brings up images of bombings and hooded figures making demands on a
home video. But when organizations tasked with defending against the treat of terrorism, begin to
shape their operations, it also shape tire definition. The gathering and analysis of intelligence is the
driving force in the Central Intelligence agency (CIA). So much so that it s right in the name. So
when the CIA begins working on the definition of terrorism, it uses that mission as a driving facture.
The CIA describes terrorism as premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against
noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents (n.d., para. 6). This is a simple
characterization because this is exactly what they are looking for. That part of the description
illustrates the specific types of acts the organizations looking to prevent. Because of its mission it
also adds the definition of international terrorism as terrorism involving the territory or the citizens
of more than one country and terrorist groups as, any group that practices, or has significant
subgroups that practice, international terrorism (n.d., para. 6). These add ons highlight the scope of
the organization. Unlike the FBI s definition that has heaver legal implications or the State
departments which is used for political purposes, the CIA uses its definition to focus its operations.

Khaled Hosseini s The Long-Distance Runner
So many people have tried to explain how life should be viewed, yet in my mind no one has gotten
in quite right. To me there are only two ways to articulate how we live our own personal lives.
These two choices are life as a run, and life as a race; depending on which you choose it can
drastically change the way you perceive life as a whole. Each person, as an individual, has their
own choiceon how they view their personal life; however, they should know the differences
between the two. How most people have been raised in today s time, or raised as a millennial, have

Brent Staples On Ethnicity And Gender
Like so many people, Brent Staples was judged based on ethnicity and gender. Brent Staples, an
African American man, has been mistaken for a criminal countless times because of his race.
The first time this happened, he scared a young white women when he turned the corner at
night, and she ran off, convinced that he was a mugger, a rapist, or worse. Brent shares
instances of people locking their car doors or crossing the street when he walked by, but he says
he can t blame them, as young black males are drastically overrepresented among the perpetrators
of... violence. He discusses his childhood in Chester, Pennsylvania where there is gang warfare,
street knifings, and murders that many of his friends and family have gone to prison or been
killed over. He mentions two extreme situations in which he is mistaken for a burglar and tells the
story of a journalist mistaken for the killer he was reporting on. Brent Staples makes it clear that
these occurrences are continuous and common, and so he has had to make changes to
accommodate for these terrified white peoplein public places by, for example, whistling classic
music at night. The point he is trying to make with this article is that Caucasians have some
common misconceptions about African Americans, often assuming they are all criminals, even
though Brent has clearly illustrated himself as one of the good boys.

Tell Tale Heart Analysis

Period 3

Secrets and Style of Sir Poe Gothic fiction is the strange, dark, spooky, and supernatural writing
style loved by readers of all ages. Most of the stories written in the Gothic style were centered in
the gothic medieval period. Several renowned books like The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston
Leroux and The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo were written in this style. Edgar Allan
Poe was one well known Gothic writer and poet from the early eighteen hundreds; he was
especially famous for his tales of mystery and macabre. A popular dark short story, The Tell Tale
Heart, and one of his first and most famous poems, The Raven, are no exception. The Tell Tale

Therefore, the metaphors used by Poe supports the sinister mood of the short story and poem.
Diction, or word choice, is also used in The Tell Tale Heart and The Raven to indirectly
characterize the narrator and speaker. The narrator of The Tell Tale Heart, upon spying the
vulture eye of the old man, depicts it as all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over [the eye] that
chilled the very marrow in [his] bones (Poe 355). Through using the word hideous and the
phrase chilled the very marrow in [his] bones , the narrator blatantly reveals his wariness
towards the old man s eye. The narrator feels threatened by the eye, which indirectly
characterizes him as insane because it is unnatural for people to feel terrorized by appearance.
Additionally, the speaker in The Raven claims that while he dreams about Lenore in the
presence of the raven, the air [grows] denser, perfumed from an unseen censer / Swung by
Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor (Poe 79, 80). Censer and Seraphim are two
words that express the speaker s longing for Lenore, as a censer is a covered incense burner
usually used in funerals, and Seraphim is an order of angels from Heaven. The reference to angels
and funerals indirectly characterizes the speaker as

Formative Assessment Reflection
The assessment practices that I feel are most important in my school is the usage of Common
Core. It requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate information that is gained
from reading (Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the positive effects of using Common Core
especially in the ELA discipline. It allows for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level
questioning that the students have been exposed to for so long.
Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is the
understanding that reading is an active and complex process that understands written text
(Afflerbach, 2015). Also, seeing that there is a great need for using formative assessments set off a
red flag for me. At my school, we tend to focus on beginning with the end in mind and focus more
on summative assessments instead of formative assessments. After reading Afflerbach s article, I
noticed that formative assessment focus more on determining where the student is and what they
need next in their instruction (Afflerbach, 2015). Upon reading the article, I ve come to realize that
formative assessment drives the next steps of instruction and provides the teacher the means to
understand where they are coming from in order to get them to where they need to be.
Reflecting on my observations of my students, I feel that standardized testing has not been proven
to be in their best interest. Berliner states that no single indicator can assess a child s

A.The labor market is always important to the economy of a nation. In the U.S, the employment
recovery started in February 2010, and it have created more than 18 million jobs for American
workers. But as Donald Trump won the election and be a new U.S president, he has not made
any policy to further this economic progress. President Trump with his new tax plan focused on
making massive profits for big and super big companies, then, instead of using the profits
investing in job and wage growth, they use that to buy back their own shares, in other words, only

the labor market has been recovered clearly and how it is happening under new policies. With the

The right to use marijuana for optional medical treatment has been a long drawn out battle between
the U.S. Federal Government and the people petitioning for its therapeutic uses. The history on the

The U.S. Federal Government has complete control on regulating all (legal or illegal) drugs based

  • 2. Essay on How Video Games Help Society Lets play a money making game! The Legend of Zelda. Video Games are revolutionizing society. They have changed for the better, transitioning from mindless wastes of time, to useful tools of learning, video games are revolutionizing, and are becoming smarter, more complex, and healthier. Video games are not just simple, mindless forms of entertainment anymore; they can now teach, inspire, and provide the player with life skills, or the knowledge needed to start a successful career. Many games companies like Electronic Arts (EA) are changing the content of their games. The successful game franchise by EA, The Sims has developed games like The Sims 2: Open for Business. The focus of this game is to start a small business in a virtual... Rusel DeMaria, author of the book Reset: Changing The Way We Look At Video Games, explains how video games can create good learning environments. In this heavily researched book, DeMaria provides details on theories of human play, combining them with research on modern learning habits to identify how and why video games can generate such effective learning environments (par.8). DeMaria s analysis breaks down the learning power of games into five interrelating components: motivation, immersion, identification, interactivity, and choice. These five factors combine uniquely in video games. More so, arguably, than in books, lectures, or educational videos. And players want to engage with games, and potentially learn from them, because of the feedback, in the form of scores, or even through interaction with other characters, which provides motivation. Graphics, sounds, and overall ambience immerse players. Immersion, engagement, feedback these are all aspects of good learning environments. Finally, DeMaria asserts that games can teach players to model complex systems and learn behaviors, languages, skills, and ideas. How s that for a potential sales, or other employee, training tool? (par. 9) This learning environment created by video games could ultimately replace training videos shown to first time employees like at McDonalds. Would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Aspects Of Poverty Background Poverty is a collective condition of poor groups and individuals. The results of poverty has many faces and changes from place to place. Poverty can be defined as the inability to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter though it s not limited to just monetary things. Individuals suffering from poverty are faced with limited access to education, jobs, healthcare, and protection against violence. Poverty looks different to every individual affected by it but in order to provide them with the opportunity to reach their full potential we as social workers must understand what poverty truly is and identify social indicators to track education, health, access to services and social exclusion. In reality, there s a general deficiency in analyzing the extent and causes of food insecurity and vulnerability amongst those affected by poverty and specific population groups. This deficiency causes a lack for a targeted policy and program development. Often times, only certain aspects of the problem are addressed, leaving other aspects unnoticed, overlooked or neglected. The problems associated with poverty correspond with one another and can lead to other economical struggles which causes an exclusion within our society such as economic inequality. Fair distribution in resources can result in the reduction of poverty. We all pay a price for poverty regardless of how we may feel. The increased cost of systems such as health, justice and education can in fact impact our economy. Distributing resources will result in higher productivity leading to economic growth. Though we have a lack of consistency when implementing polices, strategies and interventions aimed at alleviating food insecurity, vulnerability and poverty. Importance of the problem People living in poverty suffer not only material deprivation, but also the hardships and diminished life prospects that come with being poor. Childhood poverty often means growing up without the advantages of a stable home, high quality schools, or consistent nutrition. Adults in poverty are often hindered by inadequate skills and education, leading to limited wages and job opportunities. And the high costs of housing, healthcare, and other necessities ... • 4. Psycho-American War The Russo Japanese war began on February 8th, 1904 when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the Russian fleet and ended September 5th, 1905 with the treaty of Portsmouth led by Theodore Roosevelt. The war had a substantial effect on both of its participants, the Russians and the Japanese, but first this essay will talk about the events leading up to it, such as the Russian encroachment. In 1898 the Chinese and Russians finally negotiated a convention after three months by which china would lease to Russia Port Arthur in Talianwan, a tremendously strategic point which would be Russia s sole warm water port on the coast of the pacific, and its surrounding waters. Immediately after their agreement, Russia took no time in occupying the Port. A year later, Russia began to build the southern Manchurian railroad to further consolidate their position at Port Arthur. The building of the railroad led to be one of the causes of the Boxer rebellion. Because of the Boxer rebellion, the uprising of a secret organization in china against the spread of western and Japanese influence there, the Russians and Japanese had both contributed troops along with Britain, Austria Hungary, The United States, India, Germany, France, and Italy to quell the uprisings and to relieve the international ligations under siege in... This was also the first battle in along time when an Asian power was victorious over a European power. • 5. Analysis Of Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity In Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity (dir. Billy Wilder, 1944), character Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) becomes enchanted by the seductive Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck). However, through an act of lust, Neff gets involved in a murderous scheme with Dietrichson. The entirety of the movie is a flashback as Neff recalls his scheme. He records his guilty testimony onto a dictation machine, which is partially overheard by his clever boss, Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson). Double Indemnityis composed of several shots, scenes, and sequences that intentionally provoke anxiety and alienation; these instances also contain elements that have a peculiar combination of realism and oneirism. In one of the earliest scenes, Walter Neff meets... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, in the house, the lighting becomes noticeably dim, with only a little bit of sunshine coming in from the outside. This lighting adds to the hazy quality of the scene and the overall oneiric atmosphere Wilder was trying to achieve. Similar to how the hazy quality adds to the oneiric atmosphere of the shots in the Dietrichson s household, the elements of the mise en scГЁne contribute to the realistic characteristics of the first shot. Here, the viewer is presented with a seemingly perfect upper class neighborhood full of California Spanish houses. The children outside are playing baseball and an ice cream truck drives by, representing the epitome of the American Dream. The image is sharp and clear, with the light source coming from the right. However, the lighting is practically uniform in this shot. There are several hues and colors present in this shot, which is consistent with the realm of reality. Each frame of the camera is busy and cluttered, and there is a great deal of movement from both the props and the actors. However, it can also be argued that the first shot though fairly realistic is interrupted by oneiric qualities. The first shot is equitably realistic; however, German expressionism lingers in the design of the set, adding oneiric qualities to the shot. One of the most pivotal of German Expressionist cinema, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene, 1920) presents distorted environments. For example, while one would expect sidewalks and ... • 6. Mussel Research Paper Mussels are incredibly fascinating creatures that deserve some investigation. I ve had the opportunity to learn about mussels from local experts in state and federal government agencies and from my colleagues in academia, who can speak much more accurately to mussel biology than I, but I will enumerate some key points that make mussels worth thinking about. Mussels are much more than living rocks (although this is what they most resemble); mussel shells come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and surface textures. Adult mussel shell length ranges from 1 to 10 inches for different species. With common names like warty back , threeridge , heelsplitter or pocketbook , you can imagine the shell sculpture for each of these species with bumps,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mussels do have one foot, which allows them to anchor into sediment or crawl along slowly (generally inches to feet a day at most). Unlike oysters or clams, freshwater mussels have a unique life cycle that depends on a parasitic relationship with a host fish. It is this relationship that allows mussels to spread throughout a river network. Female mussels release mussel larvae (called glochidia) which must attach to the gills of a suitable host where they will grow and develop for several weeks before dropping off of the fish as juvenile mussels. Many mussel species have evolved intricate methods to attract the appropriate fish host to ensure successful attachment of glochidia. These methods range from displaying elaborate lures that mimic fish, to developing packages of glochidia that resemble fish food, to physically capturing the unsuspecting fish host long enough to infest the fish with glochidia. These adaptations are next to impossible to observe in the wild without a snorkel, scuba gear, and/or lots of time and the expertise on when and where to look, but the curious can check out the array of videos online (http://molluskconservation.org /MUSSELS/Adaptation.html). As they grow, mussels can keep a record of the water chemistry and environmental conditions in their shells. Like trees, mussels develop rings as they grow. The size of each grow ring can show ... • 7. Formal Concept Analysis ( Fca ) Essay 2.7.2Formal Concept Analysis Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), also known as Galois lattice mining, is a branch of lattice theory that allows identification of meaningful groupings of objects that have common attributes (Wille, 2009; Ganter Wille, 2012). It is a data analysis method which enables the discovery of hidden knowledge in the data in the form of concepts. Godin, Gecsei, and Pichet (1989) have demonstrated the effectiveness of using FCA for indexing and retrieval as an alternative to hierarchical classification and boolean query based systems. In FCA, the data is represented as a formal context which contains objects, attributes and a binary relation between them. FCA represents relationships by means of formal concepts and captures them in a concept lattice. A formal concept in the lattice contains a set of attributes (Intent) and objects (Extent). Thus, it gives a cluster of objects having common attributes. Definition 1. (нђ№н‘њн‘џн‘љн‘Ћн‘™ н‘ђн‘њн‘›н‘Ўн‘’н‘Ґн‘Ў). A formal context нђѕ=(нђє,н‘Ђ,нђј) consists of two sets нђє (set of objects) and н‘Ђ (set of attributes) and I пѓЌ GГ—M is a binary relation between нђє and н‘Ђ. The fact (н‘”,н‘љ)в€€н ђј is interpreted as the object н‘” has attribute н‘љ and often denoted as gIm. Example 1. Consider the set of numbers нђє = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}. Consider the set of attributes н‘Ђ = {Even, Odd, Prime, Square} that are properties. Table 2.2 gives an example of formal context (нђє,н‘Ђ,нђј). Anderson Cooper. He has written a rather tragic and informational book about his traveling and reporting experiences in a part of his life, his book is called Dispatches From The Edge, where he talks about four most important events that have occurred and made him into the person he is now. In each event, he s with his crew, tying to get a good story and document about later. But this was where and when it all started. This was the great impact on Coopers life. Cooper covered hundreds of stories, in the beginning he is in Sri Lanka, the morning after Christmas. He explains why the tsunami has occurred. He cannot nearly describe the feeling and what he sees. He feels like this was a part of him that was almost craving to see. After his brother died, he thought seeing death was normal for him. He put himself into those dangerous situations just to see more. I find it, that, the main conflict of this part was the fact that he was searching for a conflict. Once he finally gets his hands on breaking news , he finds himself looking for that story s, lets say, characters. Staring at a wall of pictures, trying to identify the members. It was after similar events where he did not seem to care about what normal was. But Cooper, however, did not know what that was. Instead the second he found out about the war in Iraq, he was on a plane, not knowing at all where he would go from there. This I felt was the most crucial part in defining the direction his life went to. His need to see blood and bodies was becoming into a conflict itself. He described himself as beastly. He forgot what being normal was. This was rather disturbing, and very negative direction to where his life was heading. This book is almost to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The nicknames that Torvald calls her wife Norah are a symbol of how he views his wife to be inferior to him. They also portray the weak relationship that exists between them. Examples of these names include spendthrift, squirrel, and sweet tooth. Certainly, the names denote Torvald s power that he has over Norah. When he calls Norah squirrel, it means that Torvald does not see his wife a human being but rather an animal. This is evidenced in In Act One when he asks Is that my squirrel rummaging around (ToМ€rnqvist 45). Norah is seen to agree to this, but she does not even say anything is concerning the nickname. Here, Torvald has power over his wife and views himself to be superior compared to Norah. On the other hand, Norah knows that these names downgrade her, but she chooses to accept them. One of the key symbols from the play is the Christmas tree. This is a tree that is decorated during the Christmas festive season. It is a symbol of the position that Norah has in her household. According to the play, it depicts that Norah is merely an object that is pleasing for one to look at and she adds liveliness to the household. Interest Rate Risk. Interest can be explained as the charge paid by a borrower for to lender for the use of a lender s money (Ritter 2000 p. 598). The interest rate is simply the percentage of the sum a borrower has to pay the lender on top of the sum which is being lent for an agreed period of time. For example, if a company borrows ВЈ100,000 from a bank at 8% interest rate with payment due in 12 months. By the end of the 12 months the company then has to pay the bank ВЈ108,000 (Appendix B, i). What types of interest rate risks do multinational companies face? One type of interest rate risks is the transaction risk. Since the interest rates constantly rise and fall companies often fix their interest rates on loans for long periods of time. As a result of this the company looses money if the interest rate falls below their fixed rate during the period the loan is for. For example, in 1998 a company borrows ВЈ2,000,000 for a 5 year period with fixed interest rate of 8% payable annually. Each year the company then has to pay interest of ВЈ160,000. If the interest rate in 2000 falls to 6%, the company is still paying 8% interest, and will consequently loose ВЈ40,000 annually. In hypothesis testing we begin by making a tentative assumption about a population parameter. This assumption is called the null hypothesis and is denoted by Ho. Decision Making A hypothesis testing situation involving decision making occurs when a decision maker must choose between two courses of action, one associated with the null hypothesis and the other with the alternate hypothesis. For example, on the basis of a sample of parts from a shipment that has just been received, a quality control inspector must decide whether to accept the shipment or return it to the supplier because it does not meet specifications. Assume that a specification for the part indicates a mean length of 1 inch per part is required. An obstacle that individuals face is that gaining access to health care is linked to having a job. However, the problem does not stop there. The problem continues in the form that not every job gives people access to health care. Many employers will stop from offering individuals full time status because then they would have to offer some type of insurance plan. Thus, employers often hire people as part time so as to not have to face giving people benefits they may deem too costly. Inherently, people are finding themselves without insurance due to the fact that acquiring health care is contingent on having a job. What does this mean for the jobless? Through using the word hideous and the phrase chilled the very marrow in [his] bones , the narrator blatantly reveals his wariness towards the old man s eye. The narrator feels threatened by the eye, which indirectly characterizes him as insane because it is unnatural for people to feel terrorized by appearance. Additionally, the speaker in The Raven claims that while he dreams about Lenore in the presence of the raven, the air [grows] denser, perfumed from an unseen censer / Swung by Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor (Poe 79, 80). Censer and Seraphim are two words that express the speaker s longing for Lenore, as a censer is a covered incense burner usually used in funerals, and Seraphim is an order of angels from Heaven. The reference to angels and funerals indirectly characterizes the speaker as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Formative Assessment Reflection The assessment practices that I feel are most important in my school is the usage of Common Core. It requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate information that is gained from reading (Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the positive effects of using Common Core especially in the ELA discipline. It allows for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level questioning that the students have been exposed to for so long. Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is the understanding that reading is an active and complex process that understands written text (Afflerbach, 2015). Also, seeing that there is a great need for using formative assessments set off a red flag for me. At my school, we tend to focus on beginning with the end in mind and focus more on summative assessments instead of formative assessments. After reading Afflerbach s article, I noticed that formative assessment focus more on determining where the student is and what they need next in their instruction (Afflerbach, 2015). Upon reading the article, I ve come to realize that formative assessment drives the next steps of instruction and provides the teacher the means to understand where they are coming from in order to get them to where they need to be. Reflecting on my observations of my students, I feel that standardized testing has not been proven to be in their best interest. Berliner states that no single indicator can assess a child s ... • 52. Labor Market Policy Analysis A.The labor market is always important to the economy of a nation. In the U.S, the employment recovery started in February 2010, and it have created more than 18 million jobs for American workers. But as Donald Trump won the election and be a new U.S president, he has not made any policy to further this economic progress. President Trump with his new tax plan focused on making massive profits for big and super big companies, then, instead of using the profits investing in job and wage growth, they use that to buy back their own shares, in other words, only the rich be richer. • 54. Essay on Medical Marijuana Should Be Legal The right to use marijuana for optional medical treatment has been a long drawn out battle between the U.S. Federal Government and the people petitioning for its therapeutic uses. The history on the use of marijuana (also known as cannabis) has been a big deterrent on legalizing this type of drug today. The controversy stems from the medical and legal implications that the U.S. Federal Government has towards the use of marijuana. Others controversies are associated to petitions filed to re classifying marijuana (a controlled substance) for optional medical treatment. The U.S. Federal Government has complete control on regulating all (legal or illegal) drugs based on the effectiveness in therapeutic values and the benefits obtained in medical treatment. The government has established safety precautions for the protection of the public s health under departmental supervision. The development of each new drug and the potential value of a drug in medical treatment are regulated by the Department of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (Jill 278).
