In Matthew 5:20, The Bible makes this emphasis: "For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Often times, this is interpreted in the context of giving to mean that Christians must give, as a compulsion, above one-tenth (since the Pharisees were known to give a tenth of their resources).
This teaching was presented by Bishop Itse Enonuya to remind us of the flaws of the Pharisee and why Christ taught the Jews to obey their interpretation of the Law but never to follow their examples since they were hypocrites.
As Christians, we are commanded to give to God willing and out of a cheerful heart (without compulsion) - 2 Corinthians 8:20 "For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have." 2 Corinthians 9:7 "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
However there is a clause: 2 Corinthians 9:6 "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously."

This is a beginning message on why we must pray together more in our church and, I suspect, in most churches. It may be true that 90% of churches today do not have a church prayer meeting on their weekly calendars. 40 years ago 90% of churches probably did. We must return to our biblical roots as a people who pray together if we want to be ready to host a revival and sustain a revival in our fellowships and in our region. God is coming with global revival. Will we be ready? Corporate prayer will help us greatly to be ready.

What are some of the interlocking facets of Christian Living?
Jesus demands right living from those who choose to repose faith in Him. What resources does He make available, and what exactly are benefits and rights that accrue to right living?
The 15 slides in this presentation provide themes around which discussions of highlighted questions and more can be centered. Useful for personal meditations on Christian living, for thinking through a sermon series, for series of Bible studies, or for personal spiritual enrichment.
Christmas should not be celebrated without understanding the reason behind its celebration, it is certainly not about getting drunk and unwrapping gifts-It has an interesting and significant meaning to us as Christians, a period of sober reflection on the birth, life and time of christ Jesus, our reconciliation and our justication are all tied to it. It is about the unspeakable love and gift of God to mankind. Merry Christmas and a happy new year. A time to offer more practical and reassuring support to those in need.

Christians were also advised to take the work of the vineyard serious and obey the commandments of the Lord.
Bit by bit we learn how to be calm. Being still and calm gives us strength and ability to withstand the stress of constant change. Calmness can preach a powerful sermon even when few words are spoken.

In Heb 8:3-5:
3) Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4) If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5) They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain."
This is a teaching presented during the 50-Sunday Programme of the Church of Christ, Sangotedo in order to edify the saints and visitors on the Pattern of Worship of the New Testament Church.

The Church as an organisation has her own challenges. Today, Bishop Itse Enonuya highlighted these challenges and recommended ways of overcoming them. These challenges and solutions are applicable in any Christian gathering.
Our beloved Bishop, Brother Itse Enonuya admonished and encouraged the congregation to grow her interest in the work of evangelism.
He asked this key question: What makes an evangelistic congregation?
In Summary:
1. An evangelistic congregation is one committed to pleasing their Lord,
2. An evangelistic congregation is one that is committed to a spiritual relationship with Jehovah God.
3. An evangelistic congregation is one that is completely committed to the concept of reaching out to the lost.
4. An evangelistic congregation is one that is balanced in reaching out to the lost.
In life there are certain things that are priceless. Once we sell them it become difficult and sometimes impossible to buy back.
We must realize that we have bought with a higher price and a higher premium placed on us by God. Therefore, we must not cheapen ourselves.
Finally, I want to leave you with this philosophical quote: “THE INTEGRITY OF A MAN IS NOT ON HOW MUCH HE CAN ACCEPT, BUT ON HOW MUCH HE CAN REJECT, EVEN WHEN HE IS IN A POSITION TO ACCEPT”.
As Christians, we have various possessions. We are gifted by the Holy Spirit in various ways. It is our duty as Christians to protect these possessions through Faith in God. Read this wonderful presentation for the full text of the sermon by Bro. Emem Idango.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

1. Righteousness that Exceeds that
of the Pharisees’
BRO. ITSE ENONUYA (BISHOP)
THE CHURCH OF CHRIST,
SANGOTEDO
2. Introduction
• Common Tendency to be driven by our mentors
or message from the past
• Some such messages have taken a strong hold,
almost becoming doctrinal
– Common to hear because our righteousness should
exceed that of the Pharisees, our giving should
exceed 10%
• We need to prove all things.. (1 Thess 5:21)
3. Definitions
• Righteousness
– Doing right especially in accordance with standard
• Pharisee
– Member of an ancient Jewish group who followed
religious laws and teaching very strictly
– Person who is very proud of the fact that they
have high religious and moral standards, but who
does not care enough about others (Hypocrite,
self righteous)
4. Salvation, not by our works
• Salvation is not obtained by our works of
righteousness which we have done, but
according to God’s mercies
– Eph 2: 8-9; Titus 3:3-7
• Pharisees were the Legalists. Hence Legalism
– Trusting one’s own goodness. Lk 18:11-12
– Thinking one can merit salvation on basis of
performance. Lk 17:10
5. Characteristics of Pharisees
• Scribes (transcribes) & Pharisees (Legalist)
• Hypocritical – Say and do not. Mt 23:3
• Bound heavy burdens upon people v4
• Ostentatious, eye-service
• etc
6. How Does One enter The Kingdom
• Matthew 5:20
• First the Kingdom
– Kingdom is the Church (at this time)
– Kingdom & Church used interchangeably by Christ (Matt
16:18-19)
– Kingdom came down with power (Mark 9:1)
• People added (Acts 2:41, 47)
– Christians translated into the kingdom (Col 1:13)
• How does one enter into the Kindgom?
– By being born again
• John 3:3ff.
7. Entry into The Kingdom
• At Baptism, we:
– We enter the Kingdom (John 3:5)
– Put on Christ (Gal 3:27)
– Obtain the righteousness of God (Rom 3:20-27)
– Obtain a better hope/testament (Heb 7:19, 22)
• Message to empower us to overcome,
prepare Christ’s bride (the church) for Him
• ‘He that has an ear, let him hear…
8. Now Concerning Giving!
• Lesson is not to discourage bountiful giving
• Careful not to make laws where there is none
• Not to extract giving from the fold (1Cor2:4)
• Guidelines for giving today very explicit:
– 1Cor 16:2 Weekly (not weakly); planned; in line
with how God has prospered you.
– 2 Cor 8:12 Willingly, as you have
– 2Cor9:7 As you consider in your heart, not under
necessity, cheerfully,
9. God’s promises for Giving
• God’s promises regarding giving
– Blessings (Acts 20:35)
– Measure for measure & beyond measure (2Cor 9:6; Lk 6:38)
– Sufficiency in all things (2 Cor 9:8)
• Conclusion
– In the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, one’s sense of doing
right must exceed mere external show. It must
embrace both right attitudes and action
10. God’s promises for Giving
• God’s promises regarding giving
– Blessings (Acts 20:35)
– Measure for measure & beyond measure (2Cor 9:6; Lk 6:38)
