The document discusses the parable of the Sower and Soils from Mark 4. It explains that the sower is Jesus and others who spread the gospel message, which is likened to a seed. It describes how we should plant seeds by loving others, allowing our faith and good works to be seen, and telling people about God's impact in our lives. The value of the seed is that it gives birth to life, salvation, and spiritual blessings like pardon, peace, redemption, adoption, and the Holy Spirit.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

The parable of the sower and soils
1. The parable of the
Sower and Soils
by
Brian Birdow
Sermon text: Mark 4
www.cmcoc.org
2. Goal of this lesson
1. What are we sowing or planting?
2. How do we sow or plant?
3. The value of the seed
3. Sower or Farmer or Planter
• Mark 4:14 The sower (farmers) sows the word
(message).
• Sower- is a farmer who plants seeds
• Word or Message- is the Gospel of Jesus
Christ.
• We are to plant the Gospel of Jesus into the
hearts (minds) of others.
4. Sower or Farmer or Planter
• The Sower (farmer) is, primarily, Jesus Himsef,
but subsequently the apostles, and as the ages
roll on, all those who seek to plant in human
hearts the word of God.
• The farmer (sower) plants seeds
• Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is
the word of God.
5. S E E D is the Word of GOD
• Likeness between SEED and Word of GOD is
that the seed, the germ of the fruit to be
produced, is enclosed in it! Without the seed
no fruit can be produced in the material world.
• The fruit must correspond to the seed.
• Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth
bring forth vegetation, the plants yielding seed,
and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its kind,
whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it
7. How do we plant the SEED?
• By loving (agape) other saints.
• John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye
are my disciples, if ye have love one to
another.
• Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore
opportunity, let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of the
household of faith.
8. How do we plant the seed?
• Allowing others to see our faith our works.
• Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
• Mark 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said
unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be
forgiven thee.
9. Faith and works
• James 2:20 But will you know, O vain
man, that faith without works is dead?
• James 2:26 For as the body without the
spirit is dead, so faith without works is
dead also.
10. How do we plant the seed?
• As we go throughout life each day invite and
tell others the impact God has had on your life.
• Psalms 105:1 O give thanks unto the LORD;
call upon his name: make known his deeds
among the people.
• Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go you
into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature.
12. The Value of the seed
• Gives birth to life and salvation
• Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the
gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God
unto salvation to every one that believes; to
the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
• Romans 1:17 For in it is the righteousness
of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is
written, The just shall live by faith. (Heb.11:6)
13. The Value of the S E E D
• Gives birth to spiritual blessings
• Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us
with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in
Christ:
• Pardon, peace, redemption, adoption, the
earnest of the Spirit
• 1 John 1:9;
14. Pardon
• 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one
with another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
• 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
15. Peace
• Psalms 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto his
people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
• Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they who love
your law: and nothing shall offend them.
• Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without
covetousness; and be content with such things as
ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor
forsake thee.
16. Redemption
• Psalms 31:5 Into your hand I commit my spirit: you
have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
• Psalms 119:9 How shall a young man cleanse his
way? by taking heed thereto according to your word.
• Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by His grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
• Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption
through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according
to the riches of his grace;
17. Adoption
• Galatians 4:5-7 To redeem them that were
under the law, that we might receive the
adoption as sons.
• And because you are sons, God has sent forth
the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying,
Abba, Father.
• Therefore you are no more a servant, but a
son; and if a son, then an heir of God through
Christ (Romans 8:15)
18. The Earnest of the Spirit
• 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now he who establishes us
with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God; Who
has also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit
in our hearts.
• Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that
ye heard the word of truth (seed), the gospel of your
salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were
sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the
earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the
purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
19. Review
1. We are planting the word of God in
others lives by how we live and what we
do and say.
2. How do we plant the seed
3. Realize the value of planting a seed!
