This document outlines 3 common types of rhyming patterns in poetry: ABAB, AABB, and ABCB. In ABAB rhyme, the first line rhymes with the third and the second rhymes with the fourth. AABB rhyme has the first rhyming with the second and the third rhyming with the fourth. ABCB rhyme has the second rhyming with the fourth while the first and third do not rhyme with any other lines. Examples are provided for each rhyming pattern to illustrate their structures.
