Hasty Generalization Fallacy Examples
The Hasty Generalization fallacy is an inductive generalization, wherein a sample of the population is
responsible for the conclusion representing the entire population. A number of categories are
contained in this fallacy, including insufficient statistics, overgeneralization, and samples not
accurately represented. The hasty generalization fallacy is often referred to as jumping to conclusions
or the use of limited samples, and can be prone to instant gratification; the smaller samples and
statistics allow for a quicker result although the outcomes could be infinite.
An example of a hasty generalization fallacy would be a number of commercials that represent that A

Based on this presentation alone, one could infer that all stepmothers are evil, or that all stepdaughters
are Cinderellas.
The Appeal to Tradition fallacy is based on the idea that the way things have always been done is the
right way. This fallacy has been applied to a number of situations, most recently with technological
advancements, as well as family legacies. While not as prevalent as it once was, a number of students
have attended colleges and completed degrees in fields they were not interested in simply because the
seven generations before them had; it had now become a family tradition.
Other appeal to traditions fallacies occurred in offices around the country as computer technology
began to replace typewriters, long hand, and the Dewey decimal system. Those deemed set in their
ways had many difficulties accepting the changes and could not understand why the old ways needed
to be changed, even if it meant more efficiency. The addage, if it ain t broke, don t try to fix it became
one of the most used phrases, and although they tried their best to not conform, eventually they did or

My Graduate Program At Ladoke Akintola University Of...
The dominant thread that ties my past, present and future together is a dedication to maximizing my
opportunities so I may contribute significantly within and beyond my sphere of influence. My ability
to recognize necessity and innovatively provide practical solutions enabled me to excel in many
endeavors. Early in my undergraduate program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria,
I recognized the poor conditions of our learning environment. The lecture room was insufficiently
ventilated and barely accommodated the students, which made lectures uncomfortable because of
congestion, heat and high humidity. Additionally, the insufficient supply of laboratory chemicals to
perform experiments made many students cluster together in the lab to make use of the few available
resources. I took on an executive position in my departmental students association in an effort to
address these issues. My colleagues and I forwarded a petition on behalf of 300 undergraduate
students to the departmental administration for the much needed overhauls. We also approached our
departmental alumni and nearby chemical companies to solicit help. Our efforts saw the suggested
improvements implemented, which enhanced our learning experience for the rest of our program. In
this executive position, I sought ways to enrich and meet the needs of the students I represented. I
presented workshops on software, like MATLAB and HYSYS, to over 50 students to help them
complete their coursework. Later

Fall of Ranbaxy
RANBAXY S FALL FROM GRACE INTRODUCTION Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (Ranbaxy) is
a research based international pharmaceutical company serving customers in over 150 countries. The
company was incorporated in 1961 and it went public in 1973.In 1998 Ranbaxy entered the United
States which is the largest pharmaceutical market. In 2008 Daiichi Sankyo a leading pharmaceutical

Even though the US regulator warned the company about its practices, the company failed to solve the
problem. A complaint filed with the US District Court had alleged that the norms were not met by the
company even in its facilities in US. In 2008 FDA issued two warning letters to Ranbaxy and an
import Alert for generic drugs manufactured in two manufacturing plants in India. Some batches of
drugs were called back due to contamination (presence of glass particles). But Ohm Laboratories,
Ranbaxy s US subsidiary, failed to give required reports to FDA. These violations were found when
Ohm Laboratories Gloversville facility was inspected. Ranbaxy s attempt to make corrections was
inadequate. According to Nirmal Bang Senior Research Analyst Praful Bohra, the company needs to
strengthen its internal processes immediately and ensure that the quality of medicines do not suffer at
all. There should be stricter surveillance and accountability. Another industry analyst with a consulting
firm reiterates, In the business of medicine, quality comes first and you just cannot take a risk with
that. When you are in such a crisis, even a small suspicion can play spoilsport. But Ranbaxy continued
to be lax in trying to restore its credibility and failed to bounce back. Lack of accountability on the
part of the company has left the investors doubtful. Even the employees have lost their morale with

Crips And Bloods Film Summary
The second film directed by Stacy Peralta that I have scene is Crips and Bloods: Made in America.
Just like his other documentary films, this film takes a historical perspective. I was introduced to this
film last month when we were covering historical documentaries. I believe that I had seen parts of this
documentary but I had never watched the entire film until now. Crips and Bloods: Made in America
was released in 2008 and explores the origins of the Crips and Bloods, two of the most prominent
gangs found all over America. The films run time is about the same as Dogtown and Z Boys, at ninety
three minutes. Forest Whitaker is the narrator for this film. Instead of just focuses on the gangs and
their impact, the film focuses on the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique might be associated with Peralta s authorship, but I have not seen enough of his films
to determine that. I also noticed the sped up interview sections in this film as well. I believe that the
fancy editing and animations are to meant to keep the viewer interested by presenting the message in a
visually compelling way to hold the audience s attention. In order for the filmmakers to understand
how each group worked on a very personal level, they had to immerse themselves in the scenes
directly. Before beginning production, Peralta spent months hanging in these neighborhoods
WITHOUT a camera, trying to establish relationships and gain peoples trust, as well as looking for
interviewees. This effort is shown when Peralta can get some of these guys to open up and talk about
things that they would not normally talk about. Patience and communication were absolutely critical
in achieving that level of trust. He is not telling the stories from his perspective, because he did not
experience it. Instead, he is giving a platform to these gang members and member of the community to
share their opinions and beliefs. There were also people questioning Peralta s credibility, suggesting
that a white former surfer/skateboarder has no type of relation to the gang culture of South Central La
and that he does not fit to tell the story. People also criticized the film because they think that it is an
exaggeration of what was/is really going on in South Central LA. Another concern was that this film is
one sided and depicts the police, institutions and organizations as the culprits for why our black
communities have suffered thanks to gang violence. The film did not really mention anything about
the mechanics of the gang lifestyle. Why not? I do think that there could have been some information
included about the structure of the gangs and their daily

High Schoolers And High School
Think back to when you were a child. While looking around, you often realize all of your friends
playing sports are exceptional at them. You are not the ultimate athlete and honestly don t enjoy sports
at all, but you keep playing anyways. All of your friends play and your parents have always
encouraged you to do well in sports and to be the best. You know there are other opportunities out
there for you, but you don t feel as popular just being satisfactory in school. In today s world, high
schoolers are constantly under pressure to do well in sports, but not necessarily in school. Life lessons,
like getting a job or just being an overall good person fly out the window. Central High School focuses
too much on athletics instead of academics; this problem can be alleviated through the encouragement
of parents to promote academic success and to help set realistic goals.
Parents need to promote academic success at every age and no matter what the student is involved in.
One of the problems today is that too many kids are overinvolved in activities, not allowing them to
have the proper amount of time to finish homework. Children are constantly under the presumption
that sports are more important than doing well in school. They work harder in practice than when
doing homework. Parents need to help encourage kids to get homework done, excel academically and
to gain the right friends. Many kids wind up making friends through sports and then they feel as

Harriet Jacobs And Frederick Douglas
The narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas were nothing short of powerful as their unique
resilience reflected a gruesome upbringing that would then influence audiences everywhere.
Immediately the reader is introduced to the gendered distinctions in narratives as Douglas has letters
and statements of prominent men reinforce the validity of his work while Jacobs is forced to create a
pleading tone for acknowledgement of her experience as a female slave. Although slavery was an
excruciating experience that unjustly plagued millions of African Americans, gender roles and
constructs allowed for distinct offenses that forced women to experience unique abuse relative to their
male counterparts. The narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas reinforced the trials of
slavery with examples of educational hardship, physical trauma and differing aspirations of freedom.
These factors and a few others such as motherhood and masculinity influenced their legacy in context
of slavery as a gendered experience.
The distinct introduction to each of their lives not only set an impression for the reader but also serves
as a precursor to the different aspirations and dreams of escape that Jacobs and Douglas distinctly had.
Beginning with Jacobs her narrative was written around her scarce time when she was not tending to
household duties and avoiding the unclean images her master regularly imposed on her. Jacobs did not
have informal education as frequent as Douglass and

Essay on Misfortune and Comedy in Shakespeare s Play, A...
A Winter s Tale by William Shakespeare is a chilling play full of misfortune and comedy. Throughout
the play, the themes of death and suffering are present, but yet the way in which they are presented is
both comical and strange. The way in which the dialogue takes place or the way in which actions
occur seem to be ambiguous. One of the most pivotal points of the story takes place over a very short
time span, climaxing over three pages, and declining almost immediately thereafter. In this case, the
death of Hermione and Mamillius occurs and is resolved, with their burial following quickly after. The
wording throughout the text can be interpreted in several ways, especially in the way which death is
represented throughout the play. Death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, strangely none of the deaths occur on stage, rather both deaths are announced to the king
through someone else. Paulina being the most important of the messengers, for she was the one caring
for both Hermione and Mamillius. The way in which she announces Hermione s death is peculiar, I
say she s dead; I ll swear it. If word nor oath prevail not, go and see: if you can bring tincture or luster
in her lip, her eye, heat outwardly or [breathe] within (50). She confirms that Hermione is in fact dead,
but still want Leontes to go forth and see for himself. Strange considering that before this point
Paulina had changed her views towards the tyrant king. Paulina no longer respected her king as
before, for he had gone blind with rage. Leontes up and till this point had discredited his queen,
already he had forgotten how to bring out the luster or breath in her. All he saw was an adulterous,
somebody guilty of high treason. Death changed Leontes, for he no longer sought revenge nor did he
want to dispel his wrath. Instead he now saw his mistakes, and would like to mend them, but sadly
cannot. The events that have occurred are done, and there is no way of going back to change them.
Leontes himself sees this, and now the play may move on from the wretchedness that was the new
ruler. Now the focus can shift to the daughter that he had banished before, that was believed

Panther And Fire Analysis
1. A black 1973 Dodge Charger races down the decrepit crime ridden streets of Fittensburg. The car
parks near the town s bar and a black woman who just goes by the name Panther, steps out. Scars are
illustrated on a face that has been through the meat grinder of numerous battles. Yet, Panther wears
them as if they are her badges of honor. Panther wears a leather jacket with Kevlar built in. Other
people might think that it has seen better days, since sections are sloppily stitched together and bullet
holes punctuate the outfit. The jacket hardly hangs on her shoulders and there is a canyon sized tear on
the left sleeve. But Panther looks at it differently, to her it represent who she is as they are both worn

She would just as soon let a kid stay in a burning building as save them if the price was right. She also
betrayed someone in her past, an action she regrets and wishes she could take it back. Panther tries to
tell herself to forget and move on but, the guilt that has manifested itself into voices in her head that
constantly eat away at what is left of her soul. She quiets them with alcohol but they never truly go
away. Panther has an elemental desire to connect with someone, in order to achieve a sense of
purpose. The voices never allow her to make peace with what she had done. In fact, the voices force
her to wear a ring, that belonged to the person she betrayed, around her neck as a reminder of the
crime she committed. There are two conflicting aspects of her personality that are waging a never
ending war for control. The voices in her head are constantly freeing the animalistic side of who she
is. A ticking time bomb waiting for any reason to explode, and god help anyone nearby when that
happens. Then, you have the samurai side of her personality that is constantly struggling for control
over that animal. Panther is a broken woman who has but one desire and that is to survive in this

The Production Of Energy And Regulation Of Apoptosis Onset
Recessive Mutations in TWINKLE Cause Infantile Onset Spinal Cerebral Atrophy

Student Number: 1300982
Abstract
The production of energy and regulation of apoptosis onset are some of the key roles of mitochondria
in the cell. These two functions are related in such that malfunctions of the oxidative phosphorylation
process can lead to release of apoptosis inducing proteins. In order to function properly, the
mitochondria requires many proteins encoded in the nuclear genome. Some genetic diseases such as
IOSCA, manifest symptoms because of large scale apoptosis or atrophy in specific tissues due to a
nuclear encoded mutant protein. A recessive Y508C missense mutation in C10orf2, a region of DNA
encoding mtDNA helicase TWINKLE, manifests as IOSCA. These individuals are homozygous,
however a number of different heterozygous individuals with a secondary mutation have been
documented with distinct similar phenotypes are described as a subclass of IOSCA. Homozygous
individuals develop symptoms approximately by one year as a result of atrophy of specific structures
in the hindbrain, posterior spinal cord and sensory axons. The additive atrophy over time manifests in
progressively worse symptoms eventually leading most affected individuals to become deaf, wheel
chair bound, suffer spine and foot deformities and eventually bouts of refractory epilepsy. Current
treatment is merely symptomatic and not preventative. As the

Heroine Complex Essay
I just realized I ve never rated Heroine Complex upon reading it last year. I m completely blown away
by this book. In our age where superhero is the new pop culture, it s quite difficult to find a series
featuring women of color as the center of heroic resistance. There s a few representations for POC in
comics and other medium content but that s only a scrap if we re going to compare it on how white
people dominate every single genre. This is why Heroine Complex is equally refreshing. It frames a
different kind of norm in superhero universe while simultaneously providing an entertaining, swoony
story.

superheroine Aveda Jupiter. Their usual dynamic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dynamics between characters are one of my favorite kinks while reading, it s not a surprise I will
focus on that element! Props to Kuhn because this book focuses on a heroine who s usually the
sidekick. Evie doesn t have a flair for dramatics, she s level headed, passionate, and reliable. She s
been the assistant of Aveda since her best friend donned her costume. Unfortunately, their friendship
isn t all sunshine and rainbows. Her boss is demanding, manipulative, and so self consumed. There s
power imbalance between them, and Aveda just knows what the right words to say to Evie to make her
do something. She sounds so awful, that s because she is. The narrative didn t excuse how she s been
unappreciative. Instead, there s emphasis on repairing the friendship between them and there s self
love and healing.
My frigid heart couldn t help but to be swayed with Aveda s arc. Everyone seems to love her, but
nobody really knows the true her. She s hardworking, she has visions for herself. She s not naturally
born with talents (whatever that means,) she has to work hard for it. The tragedy someone can do it
better than her. On the outside, she seems to have everything, she s untouchable; but truly she s just
another girl who s are still stuck by her insecurities and inadequacies. I can t wait to see her progress
in Heroine Worship.

The Political Orientation And Participation Of Individuals...
The big five is a model that has been used to identify personality traits the have a reflection in the
political orientation and participation of individuals. In this essay I will be arguing that the personality
of individuals has less of an impact on their political behaviour than other factors including age,
gender and socioeconomic status. Research in relation to the big five has shown that there are two
areas of the big five that have more influence than others, I will be discussing why scoring higher on
the openness section of the big five may mean that you are more likely to be a supporter who is more
liberal or on the left of the political spectrum. Contrasting this if you score higher on the
conscientiousness scale you are more likely to be right wing or conservative on the political spectrum.
The big five does not necessarily identify if a person is more likely to vote or not, just solely
orientation so this essay will discuss factors that can change the probability of participation in politics.
The big five is a theory of 5 domains of personality, which dates back to approximately 1884. The five
domains relate to the ideas of openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability and
extraversion. Openness, which is mainly in regard to experience, can be defined as breadth, depth,
originality, and complexity of an individuals mental and experiential life. Conscientiousness is goal
orientated approaches, with impulse control in order to facilitate

Archaeological ceramics is the most prolific relics that have been studied to expand our understanding

Long Term Consequences Of Child Abuse Essay
Long Term Consequences of Child Abuse
Introduction
Child abuse has infested the United States of America; it is now more common than ever before, and
sometimes it may not be known that this issue is occurring. In most cases, it is obvious to the child
and sometimes to his surrounding support; although in few cases, the child may not be capable of
comprehending the issue at hand to further tell and report the situation (Shi 198). There is an error in
the method used to study how often child abuse occurs. The problem is that this method still lacks a
step to be able to understand the horrendous experience that children endure (Shi 198).
Child maltreatment is a sensitive subject to many. Child maltreatment is basically known as any type
of abuse affecting the child. It is only defined as follows: the child is left with potential harm of health,
developmental and survival processes, or behavioral dignity in relationships and trust (Norman 2). The
issue of child abuse has negatively affected numerous home lives. This situation will affect each child
differently, and children could be left with permanent and long term damage (Norman 2). Children
who have experienced abuse continue to hurt by experiencing long term physical, societal,
psychological, and behavioral effects to deal with for years to come and quite possibly the rest of their
lives.

My sights have changed as I have gotten older. I no longer want to become a medical doctor. I may in
the far future decide to become a doctor but I would rather be a registered nurse because they deal
with the patients more. I also prefer working with pediatric or gereatric patients. Whatever way that I
decide to go I will always be helping someone, somewhere. I have looked at many colleges. I find
myself lucky to be in Grand Forks, North Dakota. UND is an amazing school, with a highly
recommended nursing program. North Dakota is one of the only states left that require a four year
nursing degree. I looked in to going to the tech but decided that it was not the right choice for me
since I am planning to stay in North Dakota. This would mean I would have to work in minnesota or
take a job in North Dakota and work under a different title with less pay and benefits. Another benefit
that accompanies going to a four year nursing program is if i wanted to higher my education it would
be in my best interest to have the extra two years behind me. My next step in becomming a registered
nursing is a little sidetracked. I want to be come a CMA. A CMA is a certified medical assistant. Once
I become a CMA I will have more responsibility but it will be worth it. Becomming a CMA will help
me in future classes at UND. I will have the backround of medications as well as a better
understanding of patients. Going to

The Key Objective Of A Great Facilitator
The main objective of a great facilitator is to development a team that is cohesive and cooperative,
producing results that make the group the most effective and efficient unit possible. However, this is
not always the case. Building a team that flourishes in any situation can be a daunting endeavor. Many
individuals unknowingly lack the skills necessary to be a great facilitator. Roger Schwarz (2002), has
created nine ground rules for honing a more effective group. When these nine ground rules are applied
and executed by a team, any facilitator will be able to produce a more effective and efficient group.
Furthermore, by becoming familiar with the ground rules, you can watch a group and identify
specifically what is happening that is enhancing or hindering the group s process (Schwarz, 2002 p.
96). Schwarz s (2002), nine ground rules are as followed respectively, test assumptions and inferences,
share all relevant information, use specific examples and agree on what important words mean,
explain your reasoning and intent, focus on interests, not positions, combine advocacy and inquiry,
jointly design next steps and ways to test disagreements, discuss undiscussable issues, and us a
decision making rule that generates the level of commitment needed (p. 97).

Covenant Code Essay
Methodological Remarks
A legal text is part of the social history of a people. In the reading of Exod 21 and 221 there is a
plurality of violence. Particularly, the Covenant Code makes visible several categories of women who
suffer some kind of violence: slaves delivered by their master as a wife to another slave (21:3 5),
daughters that are sold by their father (21:7 11), mothers that are slapped and cursed in the family (21
:15 17), slaves physically punished (21 :20, 21, 26 27), pregnant women that are injured (21:22 25),
daughters seduced and violated (22:16 17), sorceresses that are executed (22:18), and widows that are
oppressed and mistreated (22:21 23). In this literary set, the sorceress is the only one described based
on her public actions. The other women are visualized based on their sexual function or social class.
Statement of the Problem
The Covenant Code is a legal literature of religious and social character. It is so called because it
contains a set of legal procedures, ethical behaviors, social rules, and commandments that are related
to the covenant (Exod 19:3 8). All of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, this research is not a study of violence against women in isolation, but is intended to

Though violence appears in complex ways in the Covenant Code, this research will study only the
violence against women recorded in Exod 21:4, 7 11, 20 21, 26 27. In this chapter, there is a legal
literature block that is framed by two large narrative accounts found in Exodus 19 and 24. The frame
determines the religious character of any literary set. This is one characteristic that distinguishes the

Binge Drinking On College Campuses
Over the past few years, there has been this big debate about whether the drinking age should be
lowered to 18 or if it should stay at 21. Those in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 argue that
someone who is old enough to serve their country should be allowed to have a drink. Those who are in
favor of keeping the minimum legal drinking age at 21 because of consequences regarding
psychological development and health problems later in life. However, there is a bigger problem
concerning alcohol. The problem is the excessive amount of drinking or commonly known as binge
drinking, done by primarily college students and by raising taxes on any and all alcoholic beverages
can lead to significant reduction of dangerous binge drinking and simultaneously reducing the
dangerous effects of binge drinking. Drinking has become a tradition amongst college students, and
drinking is portrayed as a vital part of the college experience. Most incoming college freshman come
into college with a preexisting tendency to drink, and the college campus life can be a significant
influence on alcohol consumption and the rate at which alcohol is consumed. Binge drinking is so
common that it is expected of a college student to drink once getting into the university. The reasons
in which students decide to binge drink can vary from students

The animal s very name came from the size of the footprints it leaves behind. Some tracks have toes
that have five toes, but then there other tracks that have two, three, four or even six toes. Not all prints
found are footprints. In September 2000, a team of investigators from the Bigfoot Field Research
Organization found a Bigfoot body print and also they have got sounds from Bigfoot that sound like
grunts, howls, and growls (www.csicop.org). In February, a group of Colorado researchers claimed
they found scientific evidence to confirm Bigfoot s existence. Researcher Dave Paulides says his
research group collected hundreds of DNA samples from Bigfoot, mostly from Northern California s
redwoods, and said the creature is a human subspecies. Bigfoot s legend has evolved over the years
cause there are more sightings of Bigfoot and more evidence on what it is and where it has come from.
Bigfoot is an odd unexplained creature that we have no idea of but we have a lot of hard evidence that
points to something. As you can see of how many names he has there s a lot of people who has seen
this big hairy ape like creature. Theirs evidence that points to human hybrids. So maybe the evolution
of Bigfoot has evolved a lot and we don t see it, because since theirs no actual Bigfoot right in front of
them people tend to think he is fake, but with all the eye witness accounts out there it points to

The Reforms Of Gaius Marius And The Aftereffects Of The...
The first century BC brought about a number of important changes for the Roman army. Most notably,
the reforms of Gaius Marius and the aftereffects of both the Social and Civil Wars altered the Roman
army as a whole. Bringing about both continuity and change, these events would help to shape the
nature, composition and character of the army of the Late Republic period and beyond. Change came
in the form of reforms brought about by Marius; the changing of the conscription of soldiers into the
Roman army would alter not only the formation of the army, but also its nature and character.
Furthermore, the granting of full citizenship to non Roman troops who fought for the Roman army
meant a blurring of a distinct Roman identity, or what it meant to be a Roman. However, despite these
aspects of change, continuity too came out of this period. The troops of the army post Marian reforms
developed strong patron client relationships with their generals that were not unlike the concept of the
paterfamilias that had existed since the beginnings of Rome. Furthermore, leadership of the army was
put into the hands of a select few, as it always had been, and these men would use the army as a means
to further their personal ambitions.
The largest of these changes to the Roman army were arguably the changes Gaius Marius made in the
conscription of soldiers. Conscription pre Marius took the form of the state issuing a property
requirement for soldiers who wished to join the army. These men

of hunger. Drop off extra meals or can goods at an agency that dispense food. Donate canned fruit or
vegetables to organizations that fight hunger. Canning your left over produce is a great way to
preserve it for others use. You can find a local shelter or food center that will accept canned food as
donations. You can even donate it to your church so they could use the food for their cupboard to help
the needy. You don t have to be a world class gourmet chef to donate food to needy people. A big heart

Trump s Immigration Issues
According to the most recently elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, I could ... shoot
people and I wouldn t lose any voters. Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump stated on
January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that immigrants are a danger
to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a uniform law so that any
¨free white person¨ could apply for citizenship after two years of residency. In 1868, nearly 80 years
later, African Americans gained citizenship to the United States with the Fourteenth Amendment.
Finally, in 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed, suspending Chinese immigration for 10 years
and barring Chinese in the U.S. from citizenship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it seems like we have been changing our immigration laws to make our country a more open
and welcoming society for all people, regardless of race or religion, it appears our new president is
rewinding history. The first American nationality law was enacted by Congress in 1790 which allowed
free white people to earn citizenship after two years of residency in the country. According to Charles
Gordon, Former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service,
¨Although there was no contemporaneous Congressional expression to clarify the legislative intent, it
seems clear that the racial limitation [of the law] was designed to exclude two categories: (1) chattel
slaves, both Negro and White, and (2) Indians. Both groups evidently were deemed unfit for
participation in full political privilege. The designation of free white persons as the sole group eligible
for naturalization continued without change for eighty years. Much like what is happening in present
day with Trump s travel ban, the first law regarding immigration to be enacted in the United States
excluded specific groups that were deemed unfit for full participation. On January 29, 2017,

Theme Of Selfishness In All My Sons
People Are Selfish According to The Washington Post, 70% of the American population is classified
as being selfish. ( Americans are patriotic, honest, lazy, and selfish, according to Americans: The
Washington Post ) Selfishness is displayed in the play All My Sons, as there is much conflict centered
around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. In this play, the author, Arthur
Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others, by showing that they are indeed
selfish, so they can look better than other people. This is portrayed by the character Joe Keller. Joe s
selfishness is shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than
owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it makes the reader think of how they act,
and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First, Miller
illustrates how Joe acts selfish by depicting how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe
tends to blame Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the
play Steve is in jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective
plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty one innocent pilots. Miller shows that Joe was
indeed responsible for the manufacturing of the defective plane parts and let Steve face the
repercussions of those actions. When Joe refers to himself by stating, . . .

Social Hierarchies In Ancient Mesopotamia
The main social hierarchies in ancient Mesopotamian societies tended to be very similar. In general,
everything revolved around the King and the upper class such as, priests, scribes, merchants and
artisans, and the majority of society consisted of commoners and slaves, whose way of life revolved
around farming. For example, The Code of Hammurabi, law 15 states, If a man should enable a palace
slave, a palace slave woman, a commoner s slave, or a commoner s slave woman to leave through the
main city gates, he shall be killed (p. 19). Another great example is Law 112 that posits, If a merchant
should give silver to a trading agent for an investment venture, and he incurs a loss on his journeys, he
shall return silver to the merchant in the amount of the capital sum (p. 20). It is also important to note

or gives into debt service his wife, his son, or his daughter, they shall perform service in the house of
their buyer or of the one who holds them in debt service for three years; their release shall be secured
in the fourth year (p. 20). If the father wanted to disinherit child, they had to prove evidence of
behavior and bring it before the judges. Law 169 describes this process, If he should be guilty of a
grave offense deserving the penalty of disinheritance by his father, they shall pardon him for his first
one; if he should commit a grave offense a second time, the father may disinherit his son (p. 22). This

Organized Crime During the Roaring Twenties
Organized Crime During the Roaring Twenties The 1920 s, or the Roaring Twenties as this epoch is
often referred to as, was a major turning point in America history. During this time period many
American citizens believed and even acted out of hedonism. This mindset of the general population
and along with other dilemmas led to a stunning and rapid increase in the amount of organized crime.
The sudden uproar of organized crime during the 1920 s was caused mainly by prohibition that gave
rise to many street gangs, all with one man at its helm, which caused a massive increase in police
forces. During the 1920 s, the eighteenth amendment was enacted making the sale and consumption of
alcohol illegal throughout the entire United States. This time period is referred to as the age of
prohibition. Although the sale of alcohol was illegal many people still wanted to drink. This desire
gave rise to many criminal organizations that would later specialize in the illegal act of bootlegging.
These criminal organizations did not just stop at bootlegging. They soon realized the amount of money
they could make so they quickly began to open their very own businesses for heinous criminal
activities. These places where known as speakeasies and where created to better criminal
organizations profits by illegally marketing alcohol. Along with the illegal marketing of alcohol,
criminal organizations also opened houses of prostitution and began to participate in extremely

The Negative Effects Of Cigarettes
Cigarettes kill more Americans than suicide, vehicular accidents, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ADIS, and
homicides combined. Cigarettes do not support or benefit the public in a positive way. Cigarettes are
filled with thousands of chemicals and are highly addictive. Cigarettes have caused numerous mental
and physical problems for smokers and the people who surround them, impacting families,
communities and society. Cigarettes and tobacco should become an illegal drug in North America. The
negative traits of smoking outweigh the positive traits; tobacco should not be accessible to the public.
Smoking kills these two words should be very familiar. The effects of first hand smoke from cigarettes
are pathetically publicize, barley educating the public about the dangers and life threatening problems
and illness associated with smoking. Although the understanding that smoking cigarettes can kill you
has been established in the minds of Americans, the effects of second hand and thirdhand smoke has
not. Two thirds of the smoke from a cigarette is not draw in by the smoker, but enters the air and
environment around the smoker, this smoke is exactly the same as the third of smoke that was inhaled
into the lungs of the smoker. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second and third hand smoke may cause cancers
of the larynx (voice box), pharynx (throat), bladder, nasal sinuses, rectum, breast, brain, stomach in
adults and brain tumours, lymphoma and leukemia in children. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second hand
smoke is the smoke inhaled involuntary by others produced by burning tobacco.

Sophie Scholl
Sophie Scholl was brought up as a Lutheran Christian and then later joined a Nazi organization, which
she initially enjoyed and had received a promotion, but however, became uneasy when her conscience
being Christian did not line up with the creeping Nazi philosophy of the organization. In 1935, Hitler
passed the rules Nuremburg laws which discriminated Jew s, which banned them from going to many
public places and prohibited them from joining groups that Sophie was in, which made her upset and
more critical to Nazi Germany. In 1937, her brothers and a few of her friends were arrested for being a
part of a German Youth Movement which reinforced her hostility to the Nazis. Later in 1942 her father
was sent to prison after referring to Hitler as God s Scourge. In that same year a non violent anti Nazi

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give

Core Concert Dance
The CORE Concert Dance Company show presented the dance style of contemporary with the
addition to aerial choreography. The dancers presented many movements through the use of their
bodies that stemmed from choreography in ballet and modern dance moves. With contemporary being
my all time favorite style, the dancers provided a sense of freedom, expression, and unpredictability in
the ways they articulated the movement of the body itself and the objects that were used. In many of
the different pieces that were shown, I noticed that many of the dancers movements in the
choreography involved the torso. The use the torso enabled me to capture the movement of relaxation
that gave off a sense of fluidity and ease through the transition of the next ... Show more content on

The movement related to the four core principles: personal style, improvisation, dynamic play, and a
deep connection to the music in order to convey an expression and a sense of rhythmic movement.
During the performance there were a lot of joyousness and call and response in the choreography. The
areas that contained these social elements were when the dancers were suspended in the air while
doing aerial and partner work on the floor. Throughout the entire show the use of the kinetic elements
such as a bent knee, body part isolations and the use of a flat foot gave an insight on how much
training a dancer had. The aerial dancers especially displayed body isolations when they had to do
splits and hold on to the ropes with one hand while in the air. Without the isolations in the body
movement and the control of the dancers, aerial work would be very difficult to manage since it
requires control and articulation of certain body parts. Contemporary dance can be thought of as jazz
derived or jazz influenced, but jazz will always remain strict on what the movement is supposed to be
and how it supposed to be articulated. One of the main differences between contemporary and jazz is
that in jazz gravity is felt a different way. In contemporary there is an urge to give into gravity such

Whitman And Ralph Waldo Emerson
When talking about Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman a similar question of What came first
the chicken or the egg? comes to mind. Scholars may argue that without Emerson and his influential
sermons and speeches that Walt Whitman would have never found his voice, but how can someone
who so many consider one of the greatest poets of all time cease to exist? Ralph Waldo Emerson knew
what he was doing when he published The Poet. It was an outcry for the American people to speak a
truthful narrative about the human experience, warts and all. Ralph Waldo Emerson was an influential
author and speaker, so when he wrote The Poet, Walt Whitman emerged and fulfilled his expectations
after some hesitation from Emerson. Both authors paved the way for countless other writers and
played a huge role in American culture and literature. While both authors have their respected writing
styles, Walt Whitman found his voice through Emerson s influence and responded to his call for
American poets to step forth and show the world a new era of poetry and literature. Emerson had a
specific idea of what poetry should be and although Whitman answered the call, he went in a different
direction with his works and writing style. Poetry in light of European tradition was measured and fit
strict guidelines. It had strong religious roots and it was more formal than the types of poetry we think
of by today s standards and even Emerson s standards. European literature was heavily influenced by

Torrey Honors Institute
My ethnographic research paper is about Biola University s Torrey Honors Institute. I decided to
research on this topic because I am really interested in this liberal honors program and in Torrey
students academic life. I noticed that most Biola students do not know much about Torrey students.
Normal Biola students will stereotyped Torrey students and consider them to be intellectual elitists,
since the Torrey program is an honors program. Therefore, I wanted to do research on Torrey Honors
Institute not only because of my interest, but also because I want to reveal what is the program truly
like in order to prove my viewpoints to my audience. My ethnographic research paper effectively

they need to read about fifteen ancient literature per semester. When I was writing about the
interviews, the quotes of my interviewees show Torrey student s perspective directly to my audience.
During the observation, each Torrey student shows their passion of literature and their desire of
learning lessons from literature. This ethnographic research project was challenging because it was my
first time preparing and doing actual interviews by myself. It was also my first time to observe in a
Torrey session. Nevertheless, the process of the research is successful, and I am really glad that I did
all the research on Torrey program since this is a great opportunity for me and for my audience to

Tungsten
Title of Your Report
Tungsten, also known as wolfram, is a chemical element with symbol W and atomic number 74. The
word tungsten comes from the Swedish language tung sten, which directly translates to heavy stone.
Its name in Swedish is volfram, however, in order to distinguish it from scheelite, which in Swedish is
alternatively named tungsten.
A hard, rare metal under standard conditions when uncombined, tungsten is found naturally on Earth
only in chemical compounds. It was identified as a new element in 1781, and first isolated as a metal
in 1783. Its important ores include wolframite and scheelite. The free element is remarkable for its
robustness, especially the fact that it has the highest melting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

and a much lower superconducting transition temperature TC relative to the β phase: ca. 0.015 K vs. 1
4 K; mixing the two phases allows obtaining intermediate TC values. The TC value can also be raised
by alloying tungsten with another metal . Such tungsten alloys are sometimes used in low temperature
superconducting circuits.
Isotopes
Naturally occurring tungsten consists of five isotopes whose half lives are so long that they can be
considered stable. Theoretically, all five can decay into isotopes of element 72 by alpha emission, but
only 180W has been observed to do so with a half life of ×1018 years; on average, this yields about
two alpha decays of 180W in one gram of natural tungsten per year. The other naturally occurring
isotopes have not been observed to decay, constraining their half lives to be:
Another 30 artificial radioisotopes of tungsten have been characterized, the most stable of which are
181W with a half life of 121.2 days, 185W with a half life of 75.1 days, 188W with a half life of 69.4
days, 178W with a half life of 21.6 days, and 187W with a half life of 23.72 h. Tungsten typically
combines with oxygen to form the yellow tungstic oxide, WO3, which dissolves in aqueous alkaline
solutions to form tungstate ions,

Hasty Generalization Fallacy Examples The Hasty Generalization fallacy is an inductive generalization, wherein a sample of the population is responsible for the conclusion representing the entire population. A number of categories are contained in this fallacy, including insufficient statistics, overgeneralization, and samples not accurately represented. The hasty generalization fallacy is often referred to as jumping to conclusions or the use of limited samples, and can be prone to instant gratification; the smaller samples and statistics allow for a quicker result although the outcomes could be infinite. While not as prevalent as it once was, a number of students have attended colleges and completed degrees in fields they were not interested in simply because the seven generations before them had; it had now become a family tradition. The dominant thread that ties my past, present and future together is a dedication to maximizing my opportunities so I may contribute significantly within and beyond my sphere of influence. My ability to recognize necessity and innovatively provide practical solutions enabled me to excel in many endeavors. Early in my undergraduate program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria, I recognized the poor conditions of our learning environment. The lecture room was insufficiently ventilated and barely accommodated the students, which made lectures uncomfortable because of congestion, heat and high humidity. Additionally, the insufficient supply of laboratory chemicals to perform experiments made many students cluster together in the lab to make use of the few available resources. I took on an executive position in my departmental students association in an effort to address these issues. My colleagues and I forwarded a petition on behalf of 300 undergraduate students to the departmental administration for the much needed overhauls. We also approached our departmental alumni and nearby chemical companies to solicit help. Our efforts saw the suggested improvements implemented, which enhanced our learning experience for the rest of our program. In this executive position, I sought ways to enrich and meet the needs of the students I represented. I presented workshops on software, like MATLAB and HYSYS, to over 50 students to help them complete their coursework. Later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This technique might be associated with Peralta s authorship, but I have not seen enough of his films to determine that. I also noticed the sped up interview sections in this film as well. I believe that the fancy editing and animations are to meant to keep the viewer interested by presenting the message in a visually compelling way to hold the audience s attention. In order for the filmmakers to understand how each group worked on a very personal level, they had to immerse themselves in the scenes directly. Before beginning production, Peralta spent months hanging in these neighborhoods WITHOUT a camera, trying to establish relationships and gain peoples trust, as well as looking for interviewees. This effort is shown when Peralta can get some of these guys to open up and talk about things that they would not normally talk about. Patience and communication were absolutely critical in achieving that level of trust. He is not telling the stories from his perspective, because he did not experience it. Instead, he is giving a platform to these gang members and member of the community to share their opinions and beliefs. There were also people questioning Peralta s credibility, suggesting that a white former surfer/skateboarder has no type of relation to the gang culture of South Central La and that he does not fit to tell the story. People also criticized the film because they think that it is an exaggeration of what was/is really going on in South Central LA. Another concern was that this film is one sided and depicts the police, institutions and organizations as the culprits for why our black communities have suffered thanks to gang violence. The film did not really mention anything about the mechanics of the gang lifestyle. Why not? I do think that there could have been some information included about the structure of the gangs and their daily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. High Schoolers And High School Think back to when you were a child. While looking around, you often realize all of your friends playing sports are exceptional at them. You are not the ultimate athlete and honestly don t enjoy sports at all, but you keep playing anyways. All of your friends play and your parents have always encouraged you to do well in sports and to be the best. You know there are other opportunities out there for you, but you don t feel as popular just being satisfactory in school. In today s world, high schoolers are constantly under pressure to do well in sports, but not necessarily in school. Life lessons, like getting a job or just being an overall good person fly out the window. Central High School focuses too much on athletics instead of academics; this problem can be alleviated through the encouragement of parents to promote academic success and to help set realistic goals. Parents need to promote academic success at every age and no matter what the student is involved in. One of the problems today is that too many kids are overinvolved in activities, not allowing them to have the proper amount of time to finish homework. Children are constantly under the presumption that sports are more important than doing well in school. They work harder in practice than when doing homework. Parents need to help encourage kids to get homework done, excel academically and to gain the right friends. Many kids wind up making friends through sports and then they feel as though if they ... • 9. Harriet Jacobs And Frederick Douglas The narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas were nothing short of powerful as their unique resilience reflected a gruesome upbringing that would then influence audiences everywhere. Immediately the reader is introduced to the gendered distinctions in narratives as Douglas has letters and statements of prominent men reinforce the validity of his work while Jacobs is forced to create a pleading tone for acknowledgement of her experience as a female slave. Although slavery was an excruciating experience that unjustly plagued millions of African Americans, gender roles and constructs allowed for distinct offenses that forced women to experience unique abuse relative to their male counterparts. The narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas reinforced the trials of slavery with examples of educational hardship, physical trauma and differing aspirations of freedom. These factors and a few others such as motherhood and masculinity influenced their legacy in context of slavery as a gendered experience. The distinct introduction to each of their lives not only set an impression for the reader but also serves as a precursor to the different aspirations and dreams of escape that Jacobs and Douglas distinctly had. Beginning with Jacobs her narrative was written around her scarce time when she was not tending to household duties and avoiding the unclean images her master regularly imposed on her. • 10. Essay on Misfortune and Comedy in Shakespeare s Play, A... A Winter s Tale by William Shakespeare is a chilling play full of misfortune and comedy. Throughout the play, the themes of death and suffering are present, but yet the way in which they are presented is both comical and strange. The way in which the dialogue takes place or the way in which actions occur seem to be ambiguous. One of the most pivotal points of the story takes place over a very short time span, climaxing over three pages, and declining almost immediately thereafter. In this case, the death of Hermione and Mamillius occurs and is resolved, with their burial following quickly after. The wording throughout the text can be interpreted in several ways, especially in the way which death is represented throughout the play. Death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leontes up and till this point had discredited his queen, already he had forgotten how to bring out the luster or breath in her. All he saw was an adulterous, somebody guilty of high treason. Death changed Leontes, for he no longer sought revenge nor did he want to dispel his wrath. Instead he now saw his mistakes, and would like to mend them, but sadly cannot. The events that have occurred are done, and there is no way of going back to change them. Leontes himself sees this, and now the play may move on from the wretchedness that was the new ruler. The Production Of Energy And Regulation Of Apoptosis Onset Recessive Mutations in TWINKLE Cause Infantile Onset Spinal Cerebral Atrophy Biology 2B03 November 23, 2014 Arthur Patterson Student Number: 1300982 Abstract The production of energy and regulation of apoptosis onset are some of the key roles of mitochondria in the cell. These two functions are related in such that malfunctions of the oxidative phosphorylation process can lead to release of apoptosis inducing proteins. In order to function properly, the mitochondria requires many proteins encoded in the nuclear genome. Some genetic diseases such as IOSCA, manifest symptoms because of large scale apoptosis or atrophy in specific tissues due to a nuclear encoded mutant protein. A recessive Y508C missense mutation in C10orf2, a region of DNA encoding mtDNA helicase TWINKLE, manifests as IOSCA. These individuals are homozygous, however a number of different heterozygous individuals with a secondary mutation have been documented with distinct similar phenotypes are described as a subclass of IOSCA. Homozygous individuals develop symptoms approximately by one year as a result of atrophy of specific structures in the hindbrain, posterior spinal cord and sensory axons. The additive atrophy over time manifests in progressively worse symptoms eventually leading most affected individuals to become deaf, wheel chair bound, suffer spine and foot deformities and eventually bouts of refractory epilepsy. Current treatment is merely symptomatic and not preventative. As the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The big five is a model that has been used to identify personality traits the have a reflection in the political orientation and participation of individuals. In this essay I will be arguing that the personality of individuals has less of an impact on their political behaviour than other factors including age, gender and socioeconomic status. Research in relation to the big five has shown that there are two areas of the big five that have more influence than others, I will be discussing why scoring higher on the openness section of the big five may mean that you are more likely to be a supporter who is more liberal or on the left of the political spectrum. Contrasting this if you score higher on the conscientiousness scale you are more likely to be right wing or conservative on the political spectrum. The big five does not necessarily identify if a person is more likely to vote or not, just solely orientation so this essay will discuss factors that can change the probability of participation in politics. The big five is a theory of 5 domains of personality, which dates back to approximately 1884. The five domains relate to the ideas of openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability and extraversion. • 29. The Reforms Of Gaius Marius And The Aftereffects Of The... The first century BC brought about a number of important changes for the Roman army. Most notably, the reforms of Gaius Marius and the aftereffects of both the Social and Civil Wars altered the Roman army as a whole. Bringing about both continuity and change, these events would help to shape the nature, composition and character of the army of the Late Republic period and beyond. Change came in the form of reforms brought about by Marius; the changing of the conscription of soldiers into the Roman army would alter not only the formation of the army, but also its nature and character. Furthermore, the granting of full citizenship to non Roman troops who fought for the Roman army meant a blurring of a distinct Roman identity, or what it meant to be a Roman. However, despite these aspects of change, continuity too came out of this period. The troops of the army post Marian reforms developed strong patron client relationships with their generals that were not unlike the concept of the paterfamilias that had existed since the beginnings of Rome. Furthermore, leadership of the army was put into the hands of a select few, as it always had been, and these men would use the army as a means to further their personal ambitions. The largest of these changes to the Roman army were arguably the changes Gaius Marius made in the conscription of soldiers. Conscription pre Marius took the form of the state issuing a property requirement for soldiers who wished to join the army. These men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump stated on January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that immigrants are a danger to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a uniform law so that any ¨free white person¨ could apply for citizenship after two years of residency. In 1868, nearly 80 years later, African Americans gained citizenship to the United States with the Fourteenth Amendment. Finally, in 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed, suspending Chinese immigration for 10 years and barring Chinese in the U.S. from citizenship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it seems like we have been changing our immigration laws to make our country a more open and welcoming society for all people, regardless of race or religion, it appears our new president is rewinding history. The first American nationality law was enacted by Congress in 1790 which allowed free white people to earn citizenship after two years of residency in the country. According to Charles Gordon, Former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, ¨Although there was no contemporaneous Congressional expression to clarify the legislative intent, it seems clear that the racial limitation [of the law] was designed to exclude two categories: (1) chattel slaves, both Negro and White, and (2) Indians. Both groups evidently were deemed unfit for participation in full political privilege. The designation of free white persons as the sole group eligible for naturalization continued without change for eighty years. Much like what is happening in present day with Trump s travel ban, the first law regarding immigration to be enacted in the United States excluded specific groups that were deemed unfit for full participation. ( Americans are patriotic, honest, lazy, and selfish, according to Americans: The Washington Post ) Selfishness is displayed in the play All My Sons, as there is much conflict centered around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. In this play, the author, Arthur Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others, by showing that they are indeed selfish, so they can look better than other people. This is portrayed by the character Joe Keller. Joe s selfishness is shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First, Miller illustrates how Joe acts selfish by depicting how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe tends to blame Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the play Steve is in jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty one innocent pilots. Miller shows that Joe was indeed responsible for the manufacturing of the defective plane parts and let Steve face the repercussions of those actions. When Joe refers to himself by stating, . . . ... The movement related to the four core principles: personal style, improvisation, dynamic play, and a deep connection to the music in order to convey an expression and a sense of rhythmic movement. During the performance there were a lot of joyousness and call and response in the choreography. The areas that contained these social elements were when the dancers were suspended in the air while doing aerial and partner work on the floor. Throughout the entire show the use of the kinetic elements such as a bent knee, body part isolations and the use of a flat foot gave an insight on how much training a dancer had. The aerial dancers especially displayed body isolations when they had to do splits and hold on to the ropes with one hand while in the air. Without the isolations in the body movement and the control of the dancers, aerial work would be very difficult to manage since it requires control and articulation of certain body parts. Contemporary dance can be thought of as jazz derived or jazz influenced, but jazz will always remain strict on what the movement is supposed to be and how it supposed to be articulated.
