Research Paper On Speciesism
Speciesism In our everyday lives we do not normally think about where the chicken came from on our
sandwich, nor do we think or care about how it once use to be a living and breathing being. This lack
of acknowledgement and empathy for other species is called speciesism. The term speciesism is
coined by psychologist Richard D. Ryder but it is more associated with philosophers Tom Regan and
Peter Singer.
In the Merriam Webster dictionary speciesism is defined as 1. Prejudice or discrimination based on
species; especially discrimination against animals; 2. the assumption of human superiority on which
speciesism is based. Thus the main concept of speciesism is all beings are equal. Even in our own
history we are speciesist towards one another. Racism and sexism are the most thought of analogies
for speciesism. Since World War II this has become a major issue in the United States, (Crobett,
paragraph 5) and after the world saw what Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and other prisoners in the
concentration camps, people wanted equality for race, religion, and gender. Now it is an everyday
occurrences in our culture to hear on the news or see over the internet about some type of
discrimination. A prime example of this is the Ku Klux Kian, who brutally beat and killed black ...

Say if there were five species on a planet and only one species could live because the planet is about
to explode, how would one choose? If to say one of the five species was the human race, would that
make a difference? Speciesism states that if you choose the human race over the other four species
that would be unmoral because you would base your choice over physical characteristics. With that
choice you would cause the other four species to suffer when in all actuality all five species are equal
and none of those species should be picked over the

How Did The Reconquista Influence Christopher Columbus
Queen Isabella of Castile sponsored Christopher Columbus s voyage to the west Indies; exiled or
forced conversion on all of their Muslim Jewish subjects, and made Spain a world trading power while
being along side her husband King Ferdinand.
Queen Isabella s life before she married King Ferdinand
Queen Isabella paid for Christopher Columbus to go to the West Indies. The crown agreed to pay a
sum of the money as a concession from monarch to subject. Before Columbus went to Queen Isabella,
he first asked for money to go to the West Indies from the rulers of the cities of Genoa and Venice,
Italy. He then asked the king of Portugal, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella; the Kingdom of Castile
turned him down a couple times. He got Permission to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their kingdom was striving in its wealth from the trading partners. Countries would want their kids to
marry to Isabella kids because the Kingdom of Castile was wealthy and they wanted their kingdoms to
be just as big of Castile. The Kingdom of Castile had people from all over come to help make their
kingdom thrive, making Spain what is it now.
Explorers were bringing them riches from their countries. They started to produce cloths, glass, steal
weapons, and leather items from the goods the explorers brought, and traded the products Spain made
to the other countries. Isabella had Columbus go multiple times to the New Land for more resources to
keep their kingdom thriving. People would come and buy the goods he brought back. People would
buy everything they could, and Castile grew greatly in riches and land. The Kingdom made a ton of
money and goods. Isabella fixed the debt that her Brother left on spain through the Gold

Analysis Of Harrah Entertainment, Inc.
Introduction Harrah Entertainment, Inc. is a multifaceted business with large scope of services. They
compete in 23 locations to be viewed as best service driven and customer driven organization for their
hotel accommodations, gambling experience, entertainment offerings, food and beverage options and
quality. In many locations, competition is steep causing tight markets and desire to win an edge. Other
competitors focus on outshining and glamorizing their amenities to attract and captivate the market
(Delong Vijayaraghavan, 2003). Harrah s approach is much different; they focus on marketing based
attraction and consider their bread and butter to be in guest services and consumer satisfaction. Harrah
s model has historically relied heavily on its people to accomplish their goals of gaining market share,
increase operating profits and revenue through creating memorable experiences for happy, hungry and
tired guests (Delong Vijayaraghavan, 2003). The senior leadership within Harrah Entertainment, Inc.
feel compelled to, and recognizes the need to look inward at its staff to better equip and motivate them
with a meaningful compensation strategy to support and achieve their overarching goals. The method
currently in place is a customer satisfaction driven gain sharing bonus plan (Delong Vijayaraghavan,
2003). The question at hand, are they dealing the right deck of cards to their employees to continue to
meet and exceed the goals? In this paper, key players within

Betrayal In King Lear Essay
In King Lear by William Shakespeare, betrayal plays an important role throughout this story. The
foreshadow to heartbreaks and other awful leading events begin with one of the many motifs/themes
to this story, betrayal. In the beginning of the story, as Lear conducts his love test Goneril and Regan
kiss the bottoms of their father s feet in order to gain their desire power. However, when Cordelia does
not follow with her sister s praise Lear feels betrayed and embarrassed by her. He decides to get his
revenge and decides to disown Cordelia by saying Here I disclaim all my paternal care (pg. 5). The
betrayal continues to go back and forth as Lear feels Cordelia s love is not pure or true meanwhile,
Cordelia feels the exact opposite. In this specific part of the story betrayal is being used to portray the
easy access to power and success as well as losing it. Be as well neighbored, pitied, and relieved, as
thou my sometime daughter (pg.5). Cordelia lost everything from the blink of an eye because her
father turned a blind eye to Goneril and Regan s true intentions. ... Show more content on

father s respect, in order to steal his title. For Edmund to get his wishes granted he betrays his
brothers. In act 1 scene 3, he revealed his plan to the readers: Convincing his father into thinking
Edgar wanted to kill him and convincing Edgar into leaving and banishing; never speaking to his

Analysis Of The Poem Sax Impey
Sax Impey is a Cornish artist, who works out of the Porthmeor studios overlooking the beach, St Ives.
Born in Penzance and trained in Newport, Wales where he studied . The majority of his work is
inspired by the sea. Continuing the tradition set in motion by Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron and other
recognized Cornish artists. Alongside Francis Bacon as well. His work is drawn from his own first
hand experiences with the ocean and its relentless energy and overwhelming power and its seeming
endlessness. Growing up in Penzance Impey was always exposed to views out to sea but a lot of the
work is actually inspired by navigating around the world s oceans during his career delivering yachts
around the world for TV yacht delivery, travelling thousands of nautical miles. The particular work of
his I have been studying is from his exhibition Storm from 2011 at the Millennium Gallery, St.Ives.
His work is technically very impressive with his skill of semi photographic representation and
carefully calculated compositions.
What am I doing here? You idiot .
Interestingly it never before occurred to Impey to make work about the sea. Despite being surrounded
by it his entire life. It wasn t until he was completely immersed by it that he became captivated and
inspired to respond to his experience. Particularly this work Storm which was inspired by a real life
near death experience of being isolated out at sea in unpredictably strong winds whilst attempting to
sail from Ireland through

Components Of Integrated Project Delivery
What is Integrated Project Design?
There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using
today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called
Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all
aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all
participants, business coordination s, and business systems, and the way they interact with the
specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective final
product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub contractors,
consultants and suppliers.
Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building
structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an
open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens
the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from
owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and leaves
everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be gained as
well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone s role in the process. Team building is another
major part of IPD. Under each main

You Can Hear Him From The Corridor
You can hear him from the corridor. Neil Young is kicked back on a lounge chair in the focal point of
his suite at New York s Carlyle Hotel one late morning, cutting without end at the series of his
acoustic guitar. His wet hair is brushed back and he s wearing a T shirt that says Earth, with pants and
shoes. He puts his beat up 1940s Martin past proprietor: Hank Williams by him on the sofa. Take a

Each of the exhibits are done very well, including a variety of items for each collection. Each exhibit

fifteen foot painting of ancient dutch philosophers would fit in the category, Dutch and Flemish .
My overall view of the museum is very positive. I truly enjoyed visiting the museum and observing all

The Causes Of Canadian Confederation
Canadian confederation was a process in which the British colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New
Brunswick were united into one government of Canada, on July 1 1867. However Canadian
confederation did not just happen like that there were causes that lead to confederation. The causes
which lead to confederation are; political deadlock, American civil war, the railway, cancellation of
reciprocity treaty, and Britain creating her colonies self sufficient. So today in this essay I will be
discussing about the causes of confederation.
The political deadlock was an act to join two colonies and to give a representative voice as well as
some of Upper Canada s debt s. In 1840 the union joined two colonies; upper Canada (Ontario) and
lower Canada (Quebec) to form a single colony. However both upper Canada and lower Canada were
given equal representation which was 42 seats each. Slowly upper Canada began to grow larger than
lower Canada. When this was being done there were more Quebec representatives than Canadian
representatives living in the colony. However it advantaged the Canadian s who had less people but
equal say. By the 1860s, the situation had changed as Quebec having less people but equal say. Now
since Canada and Quebec had equal say all they did was turn each other down which resulted into not
a lot of new bills that were passed by Canada. The outcome of this was that the politicians from
Quebec and Ontario look towards a new political system. However one

Life Of Pi And Religion
In his interview with Jennie Renton, author Yann Martel says that the subtext of his novel Life of Pi
can be summarized in three lines: life is a story, you can choose your story, and a story with God is a
better story. In his novel, Martel uses the concepts of religion and fiction in a way that is almost
interchangeable. Through the character and beliefs of Pi, he shares the idea that all religions contain
stories and a reason for our existence, and that what makes this good is the reassurances it provides in
our lives. Religions make life meaningful and gives us purpose and Martel goes on to describe a life
without them as a dry, yeast less factuality (22).
Martel shares his character, Pi s mentality about the stories derived from religion

Analyzing Judy Garland s Song Over The Rainbow
When the song Over the Rainbow is heard, many people can recognize the familiar tune and lyrics of
this nostalgic song. The original singer of this song was Judy Garland. Over the Rainbow speaks a
message that can speak to any person, which has led to numerous artists covering this song on many
different occasions. Two other singers that have covered this song are Jerry Lee Lewis and Israel
Kamakawiwo ole. Each artist brought their own personal emotions into their performance of Over the
Rainbow leading to different interpretations of this beautiful song. Over the Rainbow was first

It doesn t matter who you are or where you are from. It doesn t matter whether you are a truck driver

bright in Israel Kamakawiwo ole s voice. It is for that reason that Hawaiians worldwide consider him
their standard bearer. (The Official Site of Israel IZ Kamakawiwo ole)
Israel Kamakawiwo ole had the ability to connect to listeners. While Judy Garland s original rendition
of Over the Rainbow is a beloved classic, Israel Kamakawiwo ole demonstrates the possibility that a
cover of a song can affect listeners in powerful ways similar to the original. Over the Rainbow has had
a powerful influence on listeners for generations. Judy Garland s version will remain a classic for
years to come. Jerry Lee Lewis and Israel Kamakawiwo ole both brought their own influences to the
original song that listeners could appreciate. However, Israel Kamakawiwo ole proved that a cover of
an original song can still touch the hearts of listeners just as well as the original. Music is an amazing
art form that has the ability to connect the artist and the listener in profound ways. Different artists can
bring different viewpoints and personal influences on a song that impact the listeners in various ways.
Over the Rainbow is just one of many examples

task. For example in my hill sprint training followed by plymetric exerscises I apllied visualization by
imagining the task that I was about to perform before I performed that task. For example I stood in
front of the hill and imagined in my head everything I wanted to do step by step so I was able to
perform the training at a high intensity and a high level. I also imagined myself working harder and
how good I felt at the end of the exercise. By using visualisation influences my concentration, as I had

With research, one can find the demographic portrait of users throughout technology.
Popescu (2013) gives an easy to follow infographic that tells us the type of people who use certain
networking sites, social media most often used by adults and a few interesting facts pertaining to age
and social media. With that being said, when it comes to targeting an audience through technology, it s
possible to be approaching the situation from all the wrong angles. One could be using a site to target
men in their forties when it is primarily used by women in their teens and twenties.
Seniors have proven to be a growing demographic in the world of technology in which they find cell
phones and computers as beneficial ways of communication. And, of course, the demographic
contributes to the continued use of healthy, security and home safety technology
(Orlov, 2011). Technology isn t limited to a single specific demographic, it is constantly evolving

and becoming a primary source of communication for the community. Being able to connect to an
audience through technology is to be connecting to the world and all the different people it has to

Technology of all kinds are being used by the diverse people of today. From teens to seniors, the
ability to connect with such a wide range of people is something that can only be accomplished via
technology. It is something to utilize, something to take

American Indians And The American Indian
In present day capitalist Unites States, we value the America Dream as much now as we did over a
century ago. This opportunity of prosperity, success, and upward social mobility, entices the masses to
work hard and achieve set aspirations. The American Dream however, is hindered across the American
Indian population, and in order for this hope of prosperity to come to fruition, American Indians need
to be given the same opportunities as all other ethnic groups. The term American Indian is officially
defined as, a member of one of the indigenous people of the Americas, esp. one of the people
indigenous to the land in what is now the continental United States ( American Indian, OED def.1).
According the U.S Department of Interior Indian Affairs, there are 566 federally recognized Indian
tribes in the Unites State ( Tribal Directory ). Also, the U.S Census gathered that roughly 5.4 million
Americans identify as American Indians ( American Indian/ Alaskan Native Population ). While these
566 tribes may be scattered throughout the United States, most share a common dilemma. There are
many problems plaguing the American Indian population, but a major one has to be the shocking high
rate of unemployment across all tribes. The foundation of a thriving society is the prosperity of its
people, without sufficient employment American Indian society as a whole suffers. The U.S Bureau of
Labor and Statistics shows that around 1 in every 4 American Indians live in poverty, and as of

The Negative Behavior In The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer By...
In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn s motivation for positive and
negative behavior sprouts from the way that they were raised and their lives: similarly yet differently.
Tom and Huck act differently and have different attitudes toward the situations that occur to them.
While Tom is content with being honest about the murder of Dr. Robinson, Huck is paranoid and
freaks out when he tells of Injun Joe talking about getting revenge on the Widow. Tom would have
told immediately, but Huck only reported it in a spurt of adrenaline from his terrified state of mind.
The two seem the same but, under the surface, are not. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are both
rebellious in their own ways. Before the murder of Dr. Robinson at midnight, Tom and Huck are in the
graveyard trying to expel warts with a dead cat. Tom, who snuck out, is being disobedient by leaving
the house without permission. In this way and many others, Tom is rebellious, The boys moved off
and disappeared in the gloom (Twain 70). After Widow Douglas took Huck in, Huck has always been
rebellious, Huck had slept there; he had breakfast upon some stolen odds and ends of food, and was
lying off... (Twain 204). This quote explains what Huck does to show that he is rebellious. ... Show

Ribbon Seal Research Paper
Ribbon Seal (Histriophoca fasciata) Ribbon seals are among the most striking and easily recognizable
seals in the world. They can be identified by the distinctive light colored bands or ribbons that encircle
their neck, each foreflipper, and hips. Adult males are the most striking, having a dark brown to black
pelage with white ribbons, while adult females range from silvery grey to dark brown with paler
ribbons. Juvenile ribbon seals are typically a light brown dorsally, light grey ventrally, and have
indistinct ribbons that usually develop after two to three years as the seals mature. Ribbon seals molt
their coat of hair annually, beginning in May and finishing in July, with younger individuals molting
earliest. Ribbon seal pups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pups double their weight during nursing and are weaned after three to four weeks. Mating likely
occurs shortly after weaning, though little is known of the breeding system. Ribbon seals are known to
eat a variety of fishes, cephalopods, and crustaceans; however, information about their feeding habits
is limited and mostly restricted to the spring when ribbon seals are typically feeding less, as evidenced
by their decreased weight and blubber thickness. Although there is little direct evidence of predation,
potential predators of ribbon seals include polar bears, killer whales, sharks, and walruses. Ribbon
seals are relatively unwary while hauled out and can be approached closely by boat. This behavior
suggests that ribbon seals probably do not experience much predation by polar bears, but may also
make them especially susceptible to hunting by man. Siberia and Alaska Natives have hunted the
ribbon seal for many generations for subsistence, and the current annual take by Alaska Natives is
estimated to be less than 200 seals per year. Commercial harvests of ribbon seals were conducted by
Soviet sealers in the 1960s to 1980s, during which time the Bering Sea population is thought to have
declined from 80,000 or 90,000 animals to 60,000. Surveys during the early and mid 1970s put the
worldwide population estimate of ribbon seals between 200,000 and 240,000, with estimates ranging
between 60,000 and 100,000 in the Bering Sea (Shustov, 1972; Burns, 1981). A more recent and

offer up a perfect steak to your guests just like any chef would. In part one of our steak series, we ll
show you some contrasting opinions on one facet of perfect steak preparation: do you bring the steak
to room temperature or not? Grill Store Dallas TX: Chefs Don t Agree on the Room Temperature
Axiom Many people grab the steak out of the fridge, shake some salt on it, and toss it on the grill.
Others are careful to let their steaks come to room temperature this can take up to 30 minutes before
they will place them on the grill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He suggests taking the steaks out of the refrigerator half an hour before grilling. In that case, you had
better plan ahead. On the other hand, ABC News quoted chef Michael Lomonaco as saying that room
temperature steaks cook far too quickly. When you cook with a room temperature steak, it cooks much
faster, said Lomonaco, according to ABC. Cooking with cold steaks allows you to control the
temperature more, resulting in a perfectly cooked steak. Patio Gas Grills Dallas: Here Is the Solution
The end goal, a perfectly grilled steak, is the same, regardless of your feelings on the room
temperature theory. The next time this conversation arises at a grill store Dallas TX, just mention that
the temperature of the grill, not the temperature of the steak, is more important when you re getting
started. Chef Walzog recommends letting your grill remain closed for up to five full minutes after the
coals have reached a proper heat level (when the coals are almost white). Placing your steaks on the
grill after it has had a chance to reach this level of heat results in beautifully charred exterior without
over cooking the inside. Up next on the grill store Dallas TX blog: we will look at the myths (or

From Vendetta to Revolution Essay
V for Vendetta directed by James McTeique, is a movie that shows how one person can change
government and the rules that a government should abide by. The story takes place in a futuristic
setting of Great Britain. Evey Hammond, portrayed by Natalie Portman, is approached and questioned
by the government s patrol team called Fingermen. Evey soon realizes that she is in trouble and is
rescued by the masked vigilante known as V, portrayed by Hugo Weaving. Evey, after being saved,
goes with V as he demonstrates his hatred for the fascist government by blowing up the Old Bailey.
Later Evey is caught in a predicament when she is wanted by the government; however, she helps save

V for Vendetta is a film that contains strong character types but diverts from the original graphic
novel; however, it still presents a powerful message about government. Strong characters can either
make or break a movie. V for Vendetta is a movie that isn t short of strong character types. V s
character type is a complex one to say the least. He is a terrorist, anarchist, philosopher and a lover of
freedom and chaos. At first people might think how the protagonist of a movie can be a terrorist and
still be good, but this factor is what sets V apart from traditional heroes. It is the fact that the world he
lives in is so corrupt and power hungry that he can destroy building and still be considered a hero. V is
the epitome of the phrase one man s terrorist is another man s freedom fighter . The character of Evey
is equally complex. In the beginning of the movie Evey is a young, shy girl who, through a series of
events, lives with V and starts to understand his ideologies, and his romance with anarchy. Evey
represents the ignorance in everyone. She never acknowledges, before meeting V, that there isn t
anything wrong with the government she lives under. Only through understanding and intimidation
does she truly realize what it s like to live without fear. Secondary characters types are equally
important. V s driving force throughout the whole movie is his vendetta against certain party leaders

Cosmos Commercial
The show Cosmos on National Geographic channel explores the intricate and fascinating world of
science and explains its material through diluted (but still accurate) scientific facts. Cosmos is an
interesting show because it attempts to capture the attention of young adult minds through the use of
dramatic music and computer generated images (CGI). The effects used in the show immerse the
viewer in the show and give them a detailed, comprehensive visual on facts that are presented. These

Movies and shows like Star Wars and Star Trek play with the idea of the unknown, making mysterious
planets with interesting looking aliens. The major difference between Cosmos and a movie like Star
Wars is that Cosmos is confined to scientific fact, but plays with the same elements that make Star
Wars appealing. While Cosmos may not feature actual aliens and laser blasters, it treats unknown
scientific possibilities as foreign and in some cases futuristic as if to ask the viewers: What if this
possibility was a reality? In fact we see the probing of these possibilities in the first episode, which
spends the majority of its time talking about the multiverse theory. The show begins with the
multiverse theory, which opens up the door to infinite possibilities, infinite outcomes; the show starts
with the presentation of this theory because the theory itself appeals to our hunger not just as
individuals, but as a species to know more about what lies beyond our universe. They use this thirst
for scientific curiosity to keep the viewers interested in watching the

Superfreakonomics Report
The book Superfreakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, is basically just a collection
of stories that analyze certain aspects of our society/world, and evaluate why something is what it is or
how it can be changed. All solutions/evaluations made by the authors though, are from an economist s
point of view. This is one of the main reasons why I chose this book alongside the fact that some of
the stories inside I found to be quite intriguing. Topics discussed in the book ranged from why suicide
bombers should buy life insurance to how street prostitutes are like department store Santa clauses.
Despite the interesting topics discussed though, the main reason I chose this book was for the
economics viewpoint of the authors. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors bring up this idea is chapter two when they discuss the idea surrounding a tax on the
inheritance given from an elderly family member to the rest of their surviving family. While most
people without an economic mindset would instantly think that lowing the inheritance tax would be a
good idea, Levitt and Dubner presented a counter theory/argument. They proposed that if the
inheritance tax was decreased, theoretically, those people expecting a share of the inheritance would
have less drive to exert the time or effort to keep the elderly person in good health thus resulting in a
faster pay out of the inheritance. I found this to be quite interesting because I, before reading this, was
in the same boat as most others by thinking that the inheritance tax should not be very high. However,
after reading this, I would consider a minor increase in the inheritance tax to be justified because I
think that the lives of the elderly, especially family members, should be more important than the
inheritance that they leave behind. I wouldn t go too far though to raise the tax so high because I think
that there is a ceiling where there would just be no benefit in even having an inheritance at all. I think
that now, after reading this, I will think more closely when the time comes for any of my close family
to reach that stage of life where inheritance is even a discussion point, because I will want to make
sure that the inheritance is not getting in the way of the well being of the family

Student At Depaul University For Three Years Now
Reflective Essay I have been a student at DePaul University for three years now. Over the course of
my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed out to me
the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab reports; for
example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still improving. Most
importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used to reading, rarely do I
have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read an essay and having to
break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s opinion even when not directly
stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is to share your work with classmates. I
used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback and would never bother asking people
from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh perspective and could help. For example,
when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting any feedback that would be that helpful,
simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with my topic. However, I was surprised that not
only were some familiar, but they had questions about my topic, and when I responded to them I
automatically realized that unintentionally, they had just given me another argument to write about,
and my response was the counter argument. That is what happened when a girl asked me why

The Importance Of Poetry In Poetry
Although poetry evokes many varying opinions among high school students, I believe poetry should
be be taught in public schools because it is important to learn different types of writing in english,
poetry is a way of self expression, and some students end up loving poetry. This opinion will be made
clear by analyzing poetry as well as other literature based on the topic. Poetry is a way of self
expression and various of poems show this. For example the poem, Why Am I So Brown by Trinidad

On the blog Why Poetry Is Necessary by Roger Housden expresses This is why poetry can be
dangerous as well as necessary. Because we may never be the same again after reading a poem that
happens to speak to our own life directly. I know that when I meet my own life in a great poem, I feel
opened, clarified, confirmed somehow in what I sensed was true but had no words for. Anything that
can do this is surely necessary for the fullness of a human life. I agree with this statement because
when you find a poem that is speaking to you, you fall in love with it because you can relate to it and
you feel open when you read that poem, it s like reading your own life. Another statement from Why
Is Poetry Necessary is On my good days, I knew better, which is why I kept writing. I knew that great
poetry has the power to start a fire in a person s life. It can alter the way we see ourselves. It can
change the way we see the world. You may never have read a poem in your life, and yet you can pick
up a volume of Mary Oliver say, or Neruda, or of Rumi, open it to any page, and suddenly find
yourself blown into a world full of awe, dread, wonder, marvel, deep sorrow, and joy. This quote
shows how poetry can change someone s life. I was never a fan of poetry till I found poems I could
relate to now, I feel that interest of feeling a flame when you read a poem that relates to your own
story of life. Lastly, a

Diffusion And Interstitial Fluids In The Human Body
The body is composed of fluids. Those fluids are distributed between the intracellular fluid (ICF) and
extracellular fluid (ECF). The intracellular is the larger compartment composed of about 40% of the
body s fluids consisting of fluids and cells. The extracellular compartment is the smaller making up
for approximately 20% of the space. This compartment holds blood plasma, interstitial fluids, and
balances electrolytes such as sodium and chloride. The ECF can be divided up into the transcellular,
vascular, and interstitial. The transcellular is also known as third space and is fluid not ready to be

nutrients, and waste products. The interstitial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

specifically intended for calorie administration. Dextrose combined with the hypertonic solution helps

Age Discrimination in Employment Essays
There has always been some ism that social movements have fought against throughout America s
history, and the issue of ageism was finally addressed in The Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Ageism can be defined as prejudiced beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors pertaining to older adults. To
understand the ADEA fully, a brief history of age discrimination is useful to comprehend the
Structural Level of this bill. Discrimination based on age was not a large issue until the beginning of
the 20th century, mainly because it was a tacit form of discrimination. For the most part, people
worked until they were at an age where they did not feel useful, and for the rest of their lives their
families would take care of them. Industrialization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The GDP was more than doubled between 1940 and 1960, and many brand new jobs were generated
in both industrial type jobs and the growing service sector. Due to all the development and
modernization, a much more efficient and educated workforce was required, which began to exclude
less educated older workers from employment. After World War II, the workplace was changed
forever because of the new technology which exterminated many jobs, and employees were expected
to know more than ever and work very quickly. When the baby boom generation was in its youth, the
workplace again was changed by the glut of young workers. Those who were old or even middle age
started to meet more pressure to leave the workforce entirely, and retire. It was also common for the
elderly to be forced out entirely. Older workers who were women or part of minority groups faced
particularly daunting odds because they had not one barrier but two in the way of being employed.
Technology again played a large role in keeping older workers out of the workplace because many of
the younger workers had taken computer classes and had experience with it. All of these factors led to
the reaction of the public and government, which took action to even the playing field for all
Americans.
The types of discrimination that went on before the ADEA resulted in many law suits against
corporations. Discrimination is judged by either direct or indirect Evidence under the law. However,

The Death Of An Anarchist Essay
Characters in Accidental Death of an Anarchist
My understanding of the characters in The Accidental Death of an Anarchist was deepened through
the presentation when it was explained how each character stands to represent a counterpart in the real
participants in the events involved with the bombing at Piazza Fontana, or the interrogation and death
of Pino Pinelli. I was informed by Jillian that the Inspector is based on a police officer named Luigi
Calabresi who was characterized by his casual wear and his nervous twitches. This helped me
understand why the Inspector was shown to exhibit these same traits in the play. My understanding of
Bertozzo s character was deepened when Jillian states that In Italy, the carabinieri, or the police force
was commonly picked on and joked about just as much as the police force of Britain. This answered
my question of why Bertozzo was always getting kicked and picked at; he represents an idiotic figure
who fits in the stereotype of the police force as a consistent object of satire and ridicule. The
Superintendent, presented by Hannah, was based on Marcella Guida, who was the head of the police
force in Milan. Without Hannah s information on Guida being the commandant for a prison camp in
Bosnia I wouldn t have known how Fo connects the two at the moment when the Maniac questions the
Superintendent s supposed activities in Bosnia. Hannah also mentioned that the Constables were based
on four real police constables involved in the case of

Stop And Frisk, Automobile Searches, And Border And...
Though the Fourth Amendment can lay the foundation of the laws of search and seizures and warrants,
there are still many controversies as to what is classified as a violation of an individual s Fourth
Amendment rights. However, the wording of the Fourth Amendment can be confusing as different
individuals interpret privacy in various ways. Terms that may be interpreted differently in the Fourth
Amendment can include: 1) right of privacy, 2) search, 3) seizure, 4) arrest, and 5) reasonableness.
This paper will examine how each term relates to the practice of stop and frisk, automobile searches,
and border and regulatory searches. The rights of privacy are described to be personal belongings or
home. As defined in Merriam Webster (2015), the right to privacy is the legal right of a person to have
reasonable privacy whereas their private affairs are not made known, or their likeness to be made
public in regards to that person s habits, mode of living, and occupation. Individuals may call upon
their rights of privacy when they believe that those rights have been violated. Situations like this may
occur when an officer searches an individuals property, or their person when performing a stop and
frisk. However the fact remains that when individuals are guilty of violating any law, those rights are
then diminished to a degree. When performing any search and seizure, law enforcement must have a
warrant. Situations when a warrant is not needed would then fall under the Good Faith

The Origin Of The Clarinet In The 1600 s
The origination of the clarinet began in the 1600 s. It was an improved version of the Chalumeau the
first narrow reed instrument. The difference between the two instruments was that, the clarinet now
had two extra keys, and it contained a higher range by over two octaves! He also invented a better
mouthpiece, and a slightly improved bell. 1690, the clarinet was created. It is known to be a single
reed woodwind instrument with a cylindrical tube . All the credit for this creation goes to Johann
Christopher Denver and his son Jacob Denver. Nuremberg, Germany was the location where the
clarinet was made. Even though the Clarinet came to existence in 1690, it took many decades
afterwards for it be finalized. Towards the end of the 1700 s, the clarinet met new designs and
features. The cut holes, where we cover our fingers with, was experimented on many times. They
needed to see which shape and size had the best effect, in terms of sound. After the cut holes were
mastered, notes became an issue to create. But, with the help of Iwan Mutters 13 keyed model

The Horror of Genocide in Our World
Genocide is a crucial topic in International Relations, as Genocide means the killing of thousands of
people from different ethnic groups, races, religions, or national groups. After viewing the full length
documentary on Genocide: Worse Then War, I understand what genocide is now and just how many
people it has affected then and now as survivors and family members re tell the stories from what they
remember. This video starts out by explaining what genocide is and how it s worse than war because
thousands of people were killed at once and no one was stopping this from happening. This video
starts out in Rwanda showing the people that have murdered people during the genocide and a man
being interviewed explains some people may kill two or three people while some may have killed
thousands, also some may have never killed any but they still contributed to the massive killing. When
in Rwanda the footage shown in the film is showing men at a concentration camp digging hole or
burring the killed victims and plowing the land for it to be planted. Elie Ngarambe also explains how a
machete killed these people. He explains that people were hacked with the machete to death,
sometimes more than once depending on how they were hit cutting off the heads and other body parts
off the victims. As said in the film there have been more than a hundred million people killed in
genocide making the total larger than any war fought in that time making genocide worse than war.

Muscular dystrophy is not a disease; it s a term for a genetic mutation. The disease, mostly affecting
males, is transmitted as a sex linked recessive trait (Taber s Cylopedic Medical Dictionary, 2013 pg.

yet unknown biochemical defect within the muscle (Sommers, 2011 pg. 691).

The two most common types of muscular dystrophy, Duchenne and Becker, affect 1 in 3,500 to 5,000
males that are born in the world (Genetics Home Reference, 2012). Just in the United States alone,
over 400 males are born with one of these types of muscular dystrophy each year (Genetics Home

life expectancy is in middle adulthood. Most males lose the ability to walk at the age of 12 with
Duchenne muscular dystrophy. They then fully rely on a wheelchair to get them anywhere. In Becker
muscular dystrophy some are still walking at the age of 30. It just depends on how early the muscular
dystrophy is found because depending upon when it s detected determines what form of muscular
dystrophy the patient has. Families may start noticing signs and symptoms of Duchenne MD between
the ages of 2 and 6. With Becker muscular dystrophy signs are not noticed until late childhood or early
adolescence. Sons of female carriers of a mutated dystrophin gene have a 50% chance of having DMD

LTV ratios were available and the result was many loans being defaulted on. The intent of the
intervention was to assist in minimizing defaulted loans on short term mortgages ... Show more

Ultimately, in my opinion, these Acts all seemed to contribute to allowing those who maybe should
not be qualified for a loan, to obtain one anyways. The legislation was definitely effective in
expanding homeownership because now way more people were able to qualify for mortgages. The
government s promotion of subprime mortgages and high LTV subprime mortgages most definitely
created additional risks for lenders and those who obtained MBSs and CDOs. I would think that by
offering loans to those with low incomes, unstable employment, high debt to income ratios, etc. the
risk is increased for all parties involved. By not ensuring (as much as a lender possibly can) that an
individual is capable (now and in the future) of making the mortgage payments is bound to result in
disaster. By the government promoting such loan types, it just further enabled the lenders and
homeowners to basically dig themselves their own graves.
Was CFC pursuing an ethical strategy? Were all of CFC s business practices ethical? Were CFC s
compensation practices ethical and in the best interest of shareholders? Did its lending practices harm
borrowers? Is there anything unethical about its VIP loan program?
By no means was CFC pursuing an ethical strategy. I think it s pretty safe to say that their business
practices were the definition of predatory. They didn t abide by their own underwriting standards nor
the industry s, they put

Stereotypes In Hollywood Movies
The first point Berg is trying to make in this chapter is where exactly stereotypes root from, he talks
about this in the the cultural and narrative dynamics of Hollywood cinema where he goes in depth of
why stereotypes were essentially created. Berg explains that the goal driven hero has the qualities of
white, handsome, middle aged, upper middle class, heterosexual, Protestant, Anglo Saxon male , so
with that specific image in mind the WASP wants to be painted with as much hierarchy as possible so
any other roles need to be lesser than the WASP. This is when stereotypes come into play because
roles such as villains, sidekicks, and temptresses are there to function to make the WASP main
character be painted in a much better light. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hollywood doesn t like people who go against the grain and aren t the status quo, that is why
Hollywood still tries to ingrain the ideal of WASP so people will be willing to claw their way to have
this luxurious life, as Hollywood paints it. The second point is that he explains in depth the six most
commonly seen Latino stereotypes in Hollywood films, and how horribly they paint the Latino
community. The six stereotypes that are mentioned are El Bandido, The Harlot, The Male Buffoon,
The Female Clown, The Latin Lover and The Dark Lady. The El Bandido is a stereotype that was
portrayed in western films to make the character look gross by their sleazy appearance and less
intelligent by either speaking broken English or English with a very heavy accent. This stereotype is
still prevalent today in the contemporary Hollywood industry by taking on the role of either a
gangster/drug runner or an inner city gang member, but still on the surface the have the violent
dangerous tendencies of the bandidio. The Harlot is a female character that is essentially a sex
machine innately lusting for a white male , she is simply just a commodity to

Timothy Mitchell
Timothy Mitchell Orientalism and the Exhibitionary Order (1989)
It is no longer unusual to suggeste that the construction of the colonial order is related to the
eloboration of modern forms of representation and knowledge
( This has been examined by critique of Orientalism
Best known analysis on Orientalism: Edward Said
Orientalist world is defined by: 1. It is understood as the product of unchanging racial / cultural
essences/ characteristics 2. These characteristics are always the opposite of the West (passive/ active,
static/ mobile, emotional/ rational, chaotic/ ordered) 3. Oriental ismarked by fundamental absences (of
movement, reason, order, meaning)
( In terms of these characteristics the colonial world can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The apparent realism of the representation: The model always seemed to stand in perfect
correspondence to the external world 2. The model always remained distinguishable from the reality it
claimed to represent: Model was always a copy of the original 3. Distinction between the system of
exhibits or representations and the exterior meaning they portrayed was imitated by distinguishing
between the exhibits themselves and the plan of the exhibition: The visitor would also, besides the
objects, encounter catalogs, plans, sign posts, programs, guidebooks, etc.
Paradox: It was not always easy to tell where the exhibition ended and the world itself began
( World outside the exhibition began more and more to look like an extension of the exhibition
The Labyrinth without Exits
Uncertainty of what seemed the clear distinction between the simulated and the real: No clear line
between the artificial and the real
( Example: The Egyptian street in the exhibition seemed very real, but it was also commercialised
(paying for donkey rides, café in the mosque, dancing girls)
Exhibitions came to resemble the commercial machinery of the rest of the city
Warehouses/ Shopping malls: Products were ordered behind glass, precisely positioned

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of
my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with
him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done
something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from
me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break.
Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he
sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him
doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our
disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me
know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact
with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with
the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and never minded the
time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another woman, so to him,
that was

  • 2. Research Paper On Speciesism Speciesism In our everyday lives we do not normally think about where the chicken came from on our sandwich, nor do we think or care about how it once use to be a living and breathing being. This lack of acknowledgement and empathy for other species is called speciesism. The term speciesism is coined by psychologist Richard D. Ryder but it is more associated with philosophers Tom Regan and Peter Singer. In the Merriam Webster dictionary speciesism is defined as 1. Prejudice or discrimination based on species; especially discrimination against animals; 2. the assumption of human superiority on which speciesism is based. Thus the main concept of speciesism is all beings are equal. Even in our own history we are speciesist towards one another. Racism and sexism are the most thought of analogies for speciesism. Since World War II this has become a major issue in the United States, (Crobett, paragraph 5) and after the world saw what Adolf Hitler did to the Jews and other prisoners in the concentration camps, people wanted equality for race, religion, and gender. Now it is an everyday occurrences in our culture to hear on the news or see over the internet about some type of discrimination. A prime example of this is the Ku Klux Kian, who brutally beat and killed black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Say if there were five species on a planet and only one species could live because the planet is about to explode, how would one choose? If to say one of the five species was the human race, would that make a difference? Speciesism states that if you choose the human race over the other four species that would be unmoral because you would base your choice over physical characteristics. With that choice you would cause the other four species to suffer when in all actuality all five species are equal and none of those species should be picked over the ... Queen Isabella s life before she married King Ferdinand Queen Isabella paid for Christopher Columbus to go to the West Indies. The crown agreed to pay a sum of the money as a concession from monarch to subject. In many locations, competition is steep causing tight markets and desire to win an edge. Other competitors focus on outshining and glamorizing their amenities to attract and captivate the market (Delong Vijayaraghavan, 2003). Harrah s approach is much different; they focus on marketing based attraction and consider their bread and butter to be in guest services and consumer satisfaction. However Canadian confederation did not just happen like that there were causes that lead to confederation. The causes which lead to confederation are; political deadlock, American civil war, the railway, cancellation of reciprocity treaty, and Britain creating her colonies self sufficient. So today in this essay I will be discussing about the causes of confederation. The political deadlock was an act to join two colonies and to give a representative voice as well as some of Upper Canada s debt s. In 1840 the union joined two colonies; upper Canada (Ontario) and lower Canada (Quebec) to form a single colony. However both upper Canada and lower Canada were given equal representation which was 42 seats each. Slowly upper Canada began to grow larger than lower Canada. When this was being done there were more Quebec representatives than Canadian representatives living in the colony. However it advantaged the Canadian s who had less people but equal say. By the 1860s, the situation had changed as Quebec having less people but equal say. Now since Canada and Quebec had equal say all they did was turn each other down which resulted into not a lot of new bills that were passed by Canada. The outcome of this was that the politicians from Quebec and Ontario look towards a new political system. However one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ribbon seals are known to eat a variety of fishes, cephalopods, and crustaceans; however, information about their feeding habits is limited and mostly restricted to the spring when ribbon seals are typically feeding less, as evidenced by their decreased weight and blubber thickness. Although there is little direct evidence of predation, potential predators of ribbon seals include polar bears, killer whales, sharks, and walruses. Ribbon seals are relatively unwary while hauled out and can be approached closely by boat. This behavior suggests that ribbon seals probably do not experience much predation by polar bears, but may also make them especially susceptible to hunting by man. Siberia and Alaska Natives have hunted the ribbon seal for many generations for subsistence, and the current annual take by Alaska Natives is estimated to be less than 200 seals per year. In fact we see the probing of these possibilities in the first episode, which spends the majority of its time talking about the multiverse theory. • 27. Superfreakonomics Report The book Superfreakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, is basically just a collection of stories that analyze certain aspects of our society/world, and evaluate why something is what it is or how it can be changed. All solutions/evaluations made by the authors though, are from an economist s point of view. This is one of the main reasons why I chose this book alongside the fact that some of the stories inside I found to be quite intriguing. Topics discussed in the book ranged from why suicide bombers should buy life insurance to how street prostitutes are like department store Santa clauses. The authors bring up this idea is chapter two when they discuss the idea surrounding a tax on the inheritance given from an elderly family member to the rest of their surviving family. While most people without an economic mindset would instantly think that lowing the inheritance tax would be a good idea, Levitt and Dubner presented a counter theory/argument. They proposed that if the inheritance tax was decreased, theoretically, those people expecting a share of the inheritance would have less drive to exert the time or effort to keep the elderly person in good health thus resulting in a faster pay out of the inheritance. I found this to be quite interesting because I, before reading this, was in the same boat as most others by thinking that the inheritance tax should not be very high. However, after reading this, I would consider a minor increase in the inheritance tax to be justified because I think that the lives of the elderly, especially family members, should be more important than the inheritance that they leave behind. I wouldn t go too far though to raise the tax so high because I think that there is a ceiling where there would just be no benefit in even having an inheritance at all. I think that now, after reading this, I will think more closely when the time comes for any of my close family to reach that stage of life where inheritance is even a discussion point, because I will want to make sure that the inheritance is not getting in the way of the well being of the family ... • 28. Student At Depaul University For Three Years Now Reflective Essay I have been a student at DePaul University for three years now. Over the course of my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed out to me the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab reports; for example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still improving. Most importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used to reading, rarely do I have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read an essay and having to break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s opinion even when not directly stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is to share your work with classmates. I used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback and would never bother asking people from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh perspective and could help. For example, when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting any feedback that would be that helpful, simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with my topic. However, I was surprised that not only were some familiar, but they had questions about my topic, and when I responded to them I automatically realized that unintentionally, they had just given me another argument to write about, and my response was the counter argument. The Importance Of Poetry In Poetry Although poetry evokes many varying opinions among high school students, I believe poetry should be be taught in public schools because it is important to learn different types of writing in english, poetry is a way of self expression, and some students end up loving poetry. Because we may never be the same again after reading a poem that happens to speak to our own life directly. I know that when I meet my own life in a great poem, I feel opened, clarified, confirmed somehow in what I sensed was true but had no words for. Anything that can do this is surely necessary for the fullness of a human life. I agree with this statement because when you find a poem that is speaking to you, you fall in love with it because you can relate to it and you feel open when you read that poem, it s like reading your own life. Another statement from Why Is Poetry Necessary is On my good days, I knew better, which is why I kept writing. I knew that great poetry has the power to start a fire in a person s life. It can alter the way we see ourselves. It can change the way we see the world. You may never have read a poem in your life, and yet you can pick up a volume of Mary Oliver say, or Neruda, or of Rumi, open it to any page, and suddenly find yourself blown into a world full of awe, dread, wonder, marvel, deep sorrow, and joy. Discrimination based on age was not a large issue until the beginning of the 20th century, mainly because it was a tacit form of discrimination. After World War II, the workplace was changed forever because of the new technology which exterminated many jobs, and employees were expected to know more than ever and work very quickly. When the baby boom generation was in its youth, the workplace again was changed by the glut of young workers. Those who were old or even middle age started to meet more pressure to leave the workforce entirely, and retire. It was also common for the elderly to be forced out entirely. Older workers who were women or part of minority groups faced particularly daunting odds because they had not one barrier but two in the way of being employed. Technology again played a large role in keeping older workers out of the workplace because many of the younger workers had taken computer classes and had experience with it. I was informed by Jillian that the Inspector is based on a police officer named Luigi Calabresi who was characterized by his casual wear and his nervous twitches. My understanding of Bertozzo s character was deepened when Jillian states that In Italy, the carabinieri, or the police force was commonly picked on and joked about just as much as the police force of Britain. Though the Fourth Amendment can lay the foundation of the laws of search and seizures and warrants, there are still many controversies as to what is classified as a violation of an individual s Fourth Amendment rights. However, the wording of the Fourth Amendment can be confusing as different individuals interpret privacy in various ways. Terms that may be interpreted differently in the Fourth Amendment can include: 1) right of privacy, 2) search, 3) seizure, 4) arrest, and 5) reasonableness. This paper will examine how each term relates to the practice of stop and frisk, automobile searches, and border and regulatory searches. The rights of privacy are described to be personal belongings or home. As defined in Merriam Webster (2015), the right to privacy is the legal right of a person to have reasonable privacy whereas their private affairs are not made known, or their likeness to be made public in regards to that person s habits, mode of living, and occupation. Individuals may call upon their rights of privacy when they believe that those rights have been violated. Situations like this may occur when an officer searches an individuals property, or their person when performing a stop and frisk. However the fact remains that when individuals are guilty of violating any law, those rights are then diminished to a degree. When performing any search and seizure, law enforcement must have a warrant. Situations when a warrant is not needed would then fall under the Good Faith ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The legislation was definitely effective in expanding homeownership because now way more people were able to qualify for mortgages. The government s promotion of subprime mortgages and high LTV subprime mortgages most definitely created additional risks for lenders and those who obtained MBSs and CDOs. I would think that by offering loans to those with low incomes, unstable employment, high debt to income ratios, etc. the risk is increased for all parties involved. By not ensuring (as much as a lender possibly can) that an individual is capable (now and in the future) of making the mortgage payments is bound to result in disaster. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. Realizing that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break.
