The Abyssinian War was a conflict between Italy and Ethiopia from 1935-1936 where Mussolini invaded Ethiopia to create a new Roman Empire and increase his popularity, avenging an earlier defeat. Ethiopia's leader Haile Selassie appealed to the League of Nations for help against Italian aggression, but while the League condemned Italy's actions, it did not take steps to prevent Italy from winning the war or discourage Mussolini, revealing the flaws in the League's concept of collective security.
