The magazine represents four social groups - age, race, ethnicity, and gender. All the models are under 18 to focus on music from the 70s-90s. The models are all white, as the creator's mother confirmed schools in the 80s had only 2-3 races represented. There are three ethnic groups represented though they cannot be identified. The front cover model and double page spread model are both white British. There is one male model among predominantly female models, challenging stereotypes by showing the male with long hair.

1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media product is an 80’s pop rock magazine. The model on my front cover is a white,
middle class female from an urban area. My magazine represents four social groups, age,
race, ethnicity and gender.
Age
All the models in this magazine are under the age of 18 and some pictures are very serious
with straight faces and then there are some smiling ones, etc. There are no older people in
this magazine as most music magazines today are about bands from the 70s, 80’s and 90’s
making a comeback or what they’re doing today, so I thought that I would use younger
models that are all mainly teenagers to change this.
Race
I used all white models in my magazine even though there were different races in the 80’s,
just not very many around. There were at least only 2 or 3 different races in a school year
(source-my mum) and my models are all in school, so it felt appropriate. And I didn’t use
different races for this reason.
Ethnicity
In my magazine there are three different ethnic groups even though you can’t tell which
ones they are. There is White British, White Polish and a half French. The Polish and French
are in the same picture and the White British people are in the rest of the pictures. The
model on the front cover is White British and she is also on my double page spread.
Gender
I have one male model in my magazine and the rest are female. They are all wearing dark
clothing and they all have long hair apart the portrait one of the girl and this cuts away the
stereotype that all girls have long flowing hair and boys have a short back and sides haircut
because the male model has shoulder length curly hair.
