ABOUT SHALYATANTRA
• Among the eight branches of Ayurveda, Shalyatantra is the most praised
branch because –

• Usage of Surgical instruments, Different time tested Cauterization techniques
• The Similarity between treatment aspects/ concepts dealt in all the other
branches of Ayurveda, as Panchakarma, Oushadha chikitsa,
daivavyapashraya chikitsa, etc.
• This branch gave the best well known Surgeon to the world with all the
documentary evidences and hence known as Father of the Surgery/ father

• Loha Dhatu in the uruvasti bhagna, explain first.
• Taking the usage of the robotic surgery in the implications of the classical
techniques for more precise surgeries.

VRANA SHODHANA/ ROPANA
• Wound management is the fundamental concept in Surgery.
• Shodahana(Cleaning) and Ropana (Healing) are the two vital principles
involved in the healing of wound.
• Ayurveda explains the cardinal group of drugs involved in the shodhana and
ropana process.
• The scientific study to evaluate these drugs and different modalities of their
applications can be done.
ORTHOPAEDICS IN AYURVEDA
• Role of Ayurvedic aspects of Orthopedics in the field of research is vary vast.
• Application of different poultices (Lepas) play a major role for local
Analgesia and early healing of the wound.
• Manjistadi lepa, different sandhanaka dravyas are also the eye fetching
researches in the orthopedics.
ANAESTHESIA IN AYURVEDIC

agent which is well described in modified the Ayurvedic classics as
Surapana.
• Some of the anaesthetis used in ayurveda are, Echinaceae purpurea,
ginkgo biloba, ginseng- panax ginseng, valeriana officinalis, zingiber
officinale, tinospora cardifolia, curcuma longa, allium sativum, etc.
BURNS(HOT AND COLD BITES)
• “Burns” is the another area of Shalyatantra which is having the scope of
research.
• Many local applications of ghritas and lepas has been dealt. The clinical
studies can be done on the evaluation of these drugs.
INSTRUMENTS IN AYURVEDA
• In the era of robotic and keyhole surgery, still there is the scope of research in
the classical instruments which explained in the Shalyatantra.
• The classical instruments are very precisely figured out which can give the
best instruments in future if studies done.
YOGYA VIDHI(SURGICAL TRAINING MAODELS)
• Sushruta elucidated the surgical models for training the hands before
performing the surgery on the actual patients.
• According to the types of the surgical procedure there are 8 procudures
that has to be done on the models for the training / practicing of the
Surgery.
• This field is also having the wide rage of scope for research as using these
surgical models will be cost effective, easily available, and
biodedegradable as compared with the market products available in
today's market.
CONCEPTUAL STUDIES
• Sushruta samhita which is known for its highly praised, precise illustration wih
the clinical and practical approaches towards the diseases, can be taken
up for the research study as a whole.
• Is the study is to be more specific and unambigious towards a single
concept then the single point of the Sushruta samhita is the best hub for the
researchers.
• A critical review on the particular explicit topic or the particular Adhyaya
may be considered for the study.
• Analysis of the particular concepts of the Sushruta can be a research topic
for the comprehensibility, more surety and incontrovertibility of the obscure
concepts.
• Hence there is a wide scope of research in the field of Shayatantra..
• Thank you..
