This document provides guidance for conclusions in a research presentation on media studies. It includes prompts to discuss audience research on similar existing products, genre expectations, identifying graphic elements, and developing a coherent house style across multiple media products. 2. Task
Write a set of conclusions based on your research findings as a final slide for your research
presentation. You can do this as a list of bullet points or in different paragraphs.
• Audience research: Are there any similar products already in the market that are targeted at
the same audience, being produced by the same media conglomerate? If not, which ones are
the closest/most similar ones? Are there any other similar products in the market targeted at
the same audience, being produced by a different media conglomerate? Which ones?
• Genre research: According to the generic codes and conventions that you identified in your
research, what will audiences expect from the product you have been asked to produce
(think of the audience's expectations in terms of the aesthetic/graphic aspects of your
product as much as its content)?
• Graphic elements: List and describe all the conventional graphic/audio-visual elements that
you have been able to identify in your research and that you will need to include in your
products, both for your product 1 (music video/magazine/radio program) and product 2
(website)
• House style: Explain how will you articulate these to construct a coherent house style
across both of your media products (product 1 (music video/magazine/radio program) and
product 2 (website)

3. Audience Research –
Magazines of the same style are being made by a variety of different conglomerates. Digital technologies are the
conglomerate responsible for publishing the Little White Lies Magazine and Bauer Media Group are responsible
for publishing the Empire Magazine. There are also a lot of magazines in the industry that target the same target
audience as the magazine that I will be making. The magazine I will be making will be focused on high-quality
films, in particular psychological thrillers .
Genre Research –
Conventions that follow most psychological movies tend to be darker than most, a reason for this could be that
darker things tend to sell more. Personally, I find that movies that dive into a certain aspect of mankind's psyche
tend to be more interesting and compelling to watch especially if the more darker aspects of the psyche are
explored. I would expect that because of this audiences will want to experience this to some extent when reading
the magazine as well as the messages connotes from the graphic elements.
Graphic Elements –
Conventional graphic elements that I have seen in psychological thriller magazines are that they usually consist
of a close-up shot of the protagonist of the film or a close-up shot of one of the posters for the film. A Graphic
Element that I have seen in the websites for the magazines is that they usually have a menu bar to navigate the
site along with some advertisements and other promotional imagery for films.
House Style –
Now how I will create a house style from all of these aspects is by using some common conventions and try to
bring a sense of originality to my magazine.
