The testing used Latest Generation LED chips thus the
results show Efficacy of >160 Lm/W and Flux of about
25000 Lm but this is a very expensive component.
Thus to maintain competitiveness and meet minimum
End-User requirement, LED chips with 140 Lm/W is
acceptable.

CONSTANT CURRENT DRIVER
vs CONSTANT VOLTAGE DRIVER
Constant current LED drivers are designed for a designated range of
output voltages and a fixed output current (mA). LEDs that are rated to
operate on a constant current driver require a designated supply of
current usually specified in milliamps (mA) or amps (A). These drivers
vary the voltage along an electronic circuit which allows current to
remain constant throughout the LED system.
Higher current ratings do make the LED brighter, but if not regulated, the
LED will draw more current than it is rated for. Thermal Runaway refers
to excess current beyond the LEDs maximum drive current which results
in drastically lower LED life-spans and premature burn outs due to
increased temperature. A constant current driver is the best way to drive
high power LEDs as it maintains a consistent brightness across all LEDs
in-series.
Constant voltage LED drivers are designed for a single direct current (DC)
output voltage. Most common constant voltage drivers (or Power
Supplies) are 12VDC or 24VDC. An LED light that is rated for constant
voltage usually specifies the amount of input voltage it needs to operate
correctly.
A constant voltage power supply receives standard line voltage (120-
277VAC). This is the type of power that is typically output from your wall
outlets around the home. Constant Voltage Drivers switch this alternating
current voltage (VAC) to a low direct current voltage (VDC). The driver will
always maintain a constant voltage no matter what kind of current load is
put on it.
Use Constant Current
Drivers for High Powered
LEDS to avoid LED burnout.
Use Constant Voltage
Drivers for multiple LEDs
arrays like LED rope light,
LED strips, LED bars, etc.

CLOSING –
FROM THE MANUFACTURER’S POINT OF VIEW
CONCLUSION:
1) Nowadays, not one Manufacturer can provide all the components that will build the whole
LED luminaire. In fact all manufacturers globally rely on specialist manufacturers of different
components to meet the required specification of the end-users.
2) As a general rule, local manufacturers can offer high quality LED products as long as the LED
luminaire BOM is made up of UL Listed Chips and Drivers and the finished LED luminaire is
tested from a Third Party Laboratory listed under NVLAP.
3) To be able to give end-users a competitive offer, manufacturers will look for ways to meet
the minimum specifications/requirement.
4) All tests and certifications required have a cost impact on the unit price of products.
5) Those manufacturers who can claim very high specifications of their products must be able
to stand with their products by offering standard 5-years warranty.
6) The ideal way of verifying claims in a Product Datasheet should be found in the Photometric
Data, Test Reports & Certificates of the same product.
7) Manufacturers often test the highest wattage of same housing dimension of LED as the
benchmark for lower wattage of the same housing.
8) There is no expiration date on Test Reports and Certifications especially if there has been no
updated version/changes done on thermal and LED Chips & Drivers components. If there
are such changes, an updated Datasheet and corresponding Tests are in order.
9) The manufacturer reserves the right to change the specification on Product Datasheets
without prior public announcement

A BRIEF OVERVIEWOF THIRD PARTY TEST REPORTS & CERTIFICATES Required by RCJY Specifications for Indoor & Outdoor LED Luminaires Presented by: Engr Michael Santiago | ADVANCED LIGHTING COMPANY RCJY Main Building | 10 March 2019 LM-80-08 – RCJY INQUIRY CONSTANT CURRENT DRIVER vs CONSTANT VOLTAGE DRIVER Constant current LED drivers are designed for a designated range of output voltages and a fixed output current (mA). LEDs that are rated to operate on a constant current driver require a designated supply of current usually specified in milliamps (mA) or amps (A). These drivers vary the voltage along an electronic circuit which allows current to remain constant throughout the LED system. Higher current ratings do make the LED brighter, but if not regulated, the LED will draw more current than it is rated for. Thermal Runaway refers to excess current beyond the LEDs maximum drive current which results in drastically lower LED life-spans and premature burn outs due to increased temperature. A constant current driver is the best way to drive high power LEDs as it maintains a consistent brightness across all LEDs in-series. Constant voltage LED drivers are designed for a single direct current (DC) output voltage. Most common constant voltage drivers (or Power Supplies) are 12VDC or 24VDC. An LED light that is rated for constant voltage usually specifies the amount of input voltage it needs to operate correctly. A constant voltage power supply receives standard line voltage (120- 277VAC). This is the type of power that is typically output from your wall outlets around the home. Constant Voltage Drivers switch this alternating current voltage (VAC) to a low direct current voltage (VDC). The driver will always maintain a constant voltage no matter what kind of current load is put on it. Use Constant Current Drivers for High Powered LEDS to avoid LED burnout. Use Constant Voltage Drivers for multiple LEDs arrays like LED rope light, LED strips, LED bars, etc.

A BRIEF OVERVIEWOF THIRD PARTY TEST REPORTS & CERTIFICATES Required by RCJY Specifications for Indoor & Outdoor LED Luminaires Presented by: Engr Michael Santiago | ADVANCED LIGHTING COMPANY RCJY Main Building | 10 March 2019 CLOSING – FROM THE MANUFACTURER’S POINT OF VIEW CONCLUSION: 1) Nowadays, not one Manufacturer can provide all the components that will build the whole LED luminaire. In fact all manufacturers globally rely on specialist manufacturers of different components to meet the required specification of the end-users. 2) As a general rule, local manufacturers can offer high quality LED products as long as the LED luminaire BOM is made up of UL Listed Chips and Drivers and the finished LED luminaire is tested from a Third Party Laboratory listed under NVLAP. 3) To be able to give end-users a competitive offer, manufacturers will look for ways to meet the minimum specifications/requirement. 4) All tests and certifications required have a cost impact on the unit price of products. 5) Those manufacturers who can claim very high specifications of their products must be able to stand with their products by offering standard 5-years warranty. 6) The ideal way of verifying claims in a Product Datasheet should be found in the Photometric Data, Test Reports & Certificates of the same product. 7) Manufacturers often test the highest wattage of same housing dimension of LED as the benchmark for lower wattage of the same housing. 8) There is no expiration date on Test Reports and Certifications especially if there has been no updated version/changes done on thermal and LED Chips & Drivers components. If there are such changes, an updated Datasheet and corresponding Tests are in order. 9) The manufacturer reserves the right to change the specification on Product Datasheets without prior public announcement
