- Technology affects people's social skills through increased social media use and different ways of interpreting messages online versus in person. As social media and technology become more widely used and integrated into society, people are growing up with different social experiences and may struggle with in-person interactions. How people communicate is constantly changing with more options for online interactions that avoid face-to-face conversations. This raises questions about how to further develop social skills beyond social media and what risks are associated with excessive social media use.
This document provides an introduction to Sotaro Takeshita and some of his interests including travel and books. It then discusses several beautiful places in Japan including shrines, waterfalls, and hot springs. It lists the top 3 most popular souvenirs or gifts from Haneda Airport including cigars, chocolate, and Hello Kitty treats. It also explains the concept of onomatopoeia in Japanese and provides examples. It poses 3 quizzes about animal and human sounds. It then discusses purikura photo booths and technologies available in advanced Japanese toilets, including one located in an aquarium.
This document discusses the rubbish problem and provides suggestions for reducing rubbish. It notes that plastic can take over 450 years to decompose and plastic jugs take over 1 million years. Some rubbish is burned, causing air pollution and damage to the ozone layer leading to global warming. Animals are negatively impacted by eating rubbish or getting tangled in it. The document suggests reducing multi-pack bags of chips which create extra rubbish and reusing plastic jugs rather than throwing them out. Reducing and recycling are presented as ways to stop rubbish from invading the earth.

Deforestation involves the destruction of forests and woodlands to make way for agriculture and development. It impacts carbon and water cycles, causes soil erosion, and leads to species extinction by destroying habitats. Small individual actions like reducing meat and car consumption, recycling, and conscious purchasing can help slow deforestation.
The document discusses waste management issues in Indonesia. It provides statistics on waste generation rates across Indonesian provinces, the types of waste generated, and the percentage of waste that is properly disposed of in landfills. It notes that waste is a serious problem, as infrastructure and management are insufficient. Improper waste disposal leads to environmental, health, and social issues. The document calls for improved policies, greater public education, decentralized community-level solutions, reduced production of non-biodegradable goods, and more sustainable consumption.
This document discusses social media engagement strategies for a Surface brand account in Japan. It outlines five principles for real engagement: reliable, polite, deep knowledge, frank, and quick/simple. Several case studies are presented to demonstrate applying these principles in practice. Metrics are shared showing how the account has grown over a year from no resources to over 25,000 tweets and a dedicated social media team. Insights reports analyzing social listening data are suggested to convince business teams of the value of social marketing. The key learnings are that real engagement comes from diving into social conversations and demonstrating value through analytical reports on those conversations.

Natural disasters are destructive events caused by nature that impact humanity. Examples include earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, landslides, and forest fires. Deforestation can increase landslides and affect rainfall patterns, resulting in droughts or floods. Cyclones are powerful spinning storms over warm waters that bring heavy rain and strong winds when they make landfall, causing flooding, infrastructure damage, and deaths. Droughts due to lack of rain can wither crops and cause famine, hunger, wildfires, diseases, social conflicts, and migration. Earthquakes are caused by the movement of tectonic plates and can trigger avalanches, tsunamis, building collapses, gas line breaks, flooding
This document summarizes a 2005 article from the journal Environment about the concept of sustainable development. It outlines the history and evolution of sustainable development from earlier concepts of peace, freedom, development and the environment. It discusses how sustainable development has been defined, including the widely used definition from the Brundtland Commission. It also examines goals for sustainable development over different time horizons and how indicators are used to define and measure progress toward sustainable development.
Deforestation involves the clearing of large amounts of trees without replanting, damaging the land. It occurs mainly in tropical rainforests but also other forests. This is a major environmental issue as it reduces biodiversity, affects climate, increases carbon emissions, and removes habitat. Reasons for deforestation include agriculture, grazing land, and logging, though sustainable practices could help mitigate the impacts.
This document discusses the mistreatment of animals in circuses, zoos, and places like SeaWorld. It provides examples of how animals are often kept in cruel conditions, forced to perform unnatural acts, and suffer poor health and psychological impacts. Specific circus animals are mentioned like tigers being burned jumping through fire hoops. Zoo animals are said to develop anxiety and depression from lack of space and proper care. The document calls for an end to animal cruelty in entertainment venues.
This document analyzes IKEA's business in Japan. It provides a history of IKEA entering and leaving the Japanese market. It performs a 5Cs analysis looking at the context of the furniture industry, IKEA's company features and positioning compared to competitors. The document proposes targeting young families and women. It suggests IKEA launch a web store and app to allow "showrooming" and addresses problems with their current model. It further proposes collaborating with fashion brands to make the stores more fun and attract more customers.
The document discusses the history and goals of feminism. It notes that during the 19th century, women began demanding rights like the right to vote and participate in lawmaking. It emphasizes that feminism is about equality between genders, not competition or hatred against men. The poster references Rosie the Riveter, the iconic image from World War II symbolizing women joining the workforce during the war. It concludes by stating that feminism deserves respect and that ultimately both genders are equal underneath.

1) Several European countries face significant environmental issues. Germany struggles with water pollution from industrial waste and outdated sewage systems, as well as air pollution from vehicles and coal burning. Ukraine continues to deal with the aftermath of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which contaminated large areas and increased cancer rates.
The March 11, 2011 disaster created the need to review Japanâs energy architecture. We believe that it will take about 10 years for Japan to fully decide on a new energy and electricity architecture, and it will take about 3 years to reach decisions on the future of Japanâs nuclear power generation. Japan has taken a careful approach towards the development of renewable power, and renewable power - except for hydropower - is substantially lower than in most other advanced countries. Japanâs potential for renewable energy is very high, especially wind and geo-thermal power, and will required substantial changes in laws and regulations, and a decentralized and democratic approach to grid management. Necessary liberalization of Japanâs electricity markets is in preparation, and we will see a rapid development of renewable energy. This report reviews the current situation and the future potential of renewable electrical power in Japan.
This presentation discusses the impacts of climate change on elderly people in Bangladesh. It begins with introducing climate change and its causes such as greenhouse gases. It then discusses how climate change is affecting Bangladesh through increased flooding, cyclones, droughts and rising sea levels. The impacts of climate change place additional socio-economic and health burdens on elderly populations, including effects on livelihoods, food security, and increased heat-related illnesses. The presentation concludes with recommendations for how to support elderly people through adaptation strategies, disaster preparedness, and developing age-friendly communities.
Deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest is occurring for several economic, social, and political reasons. The Amazon rainforest is being cleared for cattle ranching, agriculture, and logging. This is destroying habitats and leading to the extinction of many plant and animal species. While some government programs have contributed to deforestation, increased law enforcement with fines for illegal logging may be a more effective solution to reduce deforestation compared to raising awareness through school programs.

Keeping a close eye on how our society becomes more conscientious about food waste and taking a look at the various solutions startups work out to hack the flawed system gives us an early glimpse into how positive shifts happen in the world. Food waste is a fascinating topic, and only partly because the current numbers and existing processes are outrageous.
Until 2009, there was not much deep information to be found about the exact scale and nature of the food loss and waste in the world. Published that same year, Tristam Stuartâs book, Waste: Uncovering the Global Food Scandal provides a sobering trip to the reality of food. It also highlights an incredibly important fact: with small, common sense tweaks in habits and processes, the current grave situation can be turned on its head and solve the problem of the 842 million people living in hunger around the world too.
