cooperation
Economic system based on
mass consumption
8. LOCAL ACTIONS
From our school,
neighbourhood and city,
we have taken several
measures that contribute to
alleviate these effects
9. AT LUÍS SEOANE
HIGH SCHOOL
Objectives:
▪ Saving energy
▪ Reducing
garbage
▪ Increasing
community
awareness
MEASURES TAKEN:
✓ Traditional lighting system has been replaced by
a LED bulb system
✓ Double windows have been installed to retain
warmth
✓ Computer classrooms have now a more
extended use
✓ Selective collection: paper, plastic, technological
garbage.
✓ Campaigns on responsible consumption
10. IN OUR
NEIGHBOURHOOD:
MONTE PORREIRO
Objectives:
➢ Changing our
purchase habits
➢ Raise awareness
on Climate
Change
MEASURES TAKEN:
✓ Easy tips to promote selective collection at home
✓ Recycling organic waste:
✓ Two composting bins looked after by a Fertilise Master:
house waste reduced by half
✓ Fertilizer is then used in the urban vegetable patches
(looked after by children during the school year, by the
elderly on holidays).
✓ Promoting the use of safe school paths by volunteers
12. PONTEVEDRA: A
ROLE MODEL CITY
The urban remodelling
of Pontevedra started in
1999.
It focuses on a city
concept where the
human being and their
activities are vital in
urban life
Pontevedra has been internationally awarded with
several prizes dealing with sustainable
development.
The measures taken show an eco-friendly city.
Pontevedra is a role model city with more public
spaces, social cohesion, economic activity, respect
for and recovery of the environment and
accessibility

16. CONCLUSION
Human activity has a negative impact on the planet’s
life. However, these effects could be balanced if we
took some measures in our school, our community,
and our city that led us to a sustainable development.
