The Open Suite Approach: How to ride the shock waves of a changing webbkraft
Session: "Founders inventing the future" @ jboye arhuus conference 2014
Today, you might be concerned about Customer Experience Management. 10 years from now, the business you are in today might not even exist anymore. When the Internet of Things happens for real, change will be very swift, and it will touch every enterprise. Your business will turn into a Digital Business – or fail. So how can you ride the shock waves of a changing web?
Many marketing teams commit too quickly to a single vendor’s promise of solving all your issues right here, right now. We believe that to succeed in an ever changing web, your most important decision today is that of the web infrastructure. It should be solid, flexible, ease-to-use and highly customizable, be mobile-ready and be able to integrate with anything quickly -– from CRM to ERP to E-commerce to a myriad of marketing tools. In other words, it needs to take into account that the future is uncertain, with or without the disruption of the internet of things and the rise of digital business. To go there, we propagate an Open Suite approach – in essence the choice of a solid platform that allows you to quickly integrate whatever you need most, a platform that allows you to unify your customer communication and interaction and to combine the best available tools for the job without any vendor restrictions.
The talk will introduce you to the coming age of digital business, highlight the benefits an Open Suite approach to your web infrastructure and prepare you for your future as a digital business manager.

Summary
Moving from A-B is slowly being revolutionised through data. Car-sharing and ride-hailing are just the beginning. Thousands of connected devices are currently monitoring data points, and although stand-alone analysis can be useful, true innovation occurs when these data sets are combined to transform into something new.
In the near future, IoT data explosion and the API revolution will collide to change city planning, urban movement and the role of the car in the 21st century.
- First off, we set out to understand what big data means in the context of transportation, answering questions such as what is it, where is it coming from, and what can you do with it.
- Next, we'll zoom out and apply these learning to transport innovation in a wider context, considering how it will influence concepts such as urban movement, social mobility, and quality of life.
- Finally, we'll discuss the relationship between open data and innovation.
The internet of things is surrounding us. We are wearing fitness bands around our wrists, have scales in our bathroom connected to our smartphones and a smoke detector to send us a notification in case of fire.
How can we integrate this new generation of connected products into existing or new services? How can we incorporate them into services ranging from the smart home to smart car to smart city?
This special edition of Service Design Drinks took place at Fab Lab Berlin and invited service designer, service innovators, makers and entrepreneurs to discuss the application and integration of connected things into future services. Three speakers from renown companies gave short input talks, followed by an interactive session and time for further exchange. The guest speakers were:
• Hannes Jentsch, Independent Design Consultant
• Thomas Schörner, Design Lead IoT, SAP
• Ricardo Brito, UX & Service Designer, Futurice

The World’s Smartest Intersection is a groundbreaking technology showcase in Detroit, Michigan. Powered by TrafficLink, it features both the existing functionality and future capabilities of the Miovision platform.
In partnership with Sunny Jacob, Head of Traffic Operations with the City of Detroit, the World’s Smartest Intersection started as a transportation department initiative to help the city solve ongoing traffic issues, and has since evolved into a cross-city platform for open innovation. Miovision TrafficLink provides city staff with the ability to find new development partners that outpace the proprietary traffic ecosystem.
The mobile industry has always been prone to hype and hyperbole, but they have more than excelled themselves with the promise of imminent 5G roll out. Apparently 5G will dominate the IoT, Smart Cities, Robotic Plants, Autonomous Vehicles, Global Logistics, Remote Surgery, AR, VR and everything else…. Of course there are elements of the ‘likely outcomes’ here, but there is plenty of reason to consider 5G to be the ultimate Swiss Army Knife - capable of doing almost anything, but only doing a few tasks really well!
Reality is that the highest bandwidths forecast are only likely to be achieved at relatively short distances, with high power consumption and relatively short battery life between charges - ie much shorter than 3 or 4G. At the same time the nee for 10 - 100x the number of 4G masts and towers renders the old mobile deployment models impractical. An obvious solution is the deployment of nodes for home and office at FTTP terminal points to provide comprehensive network coverage/geographic infill.
Perhaps the prime quality of 5G, over and above 3 and 4G, that is seldom featured is that of very low latency which is an essential for remote robotics, surgery, medicine, AR and VR applications.
So in this presentation we consider all of theses aspects (and more) in the context of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and the move toward sustainable societies in order to present a degree of clarification as to which technologies will most likely applied where. This sees the Not as the nervous system of the planet with more thing connecting at close range off - net, with some consolidation and analysis at node before upload into the IoT.
In short; there is not enough energy available for all things to be connected by 5G technology, and nor is it necessary, the available alternatives for very short range - low energy connectivity are not only viable they are more attractive by size, form factor, cost, and operational modes, We therefor predict a dynamic mixed technology future…

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

“Repurposing San Diego’s lighting infrastructure in a way that allows the community to
put their hands on the heartbeat and nervous system of the city is our way of building a
smart city app store,” said David Graham, San Diego Chief Deputy Officer.
“Fostering innovation and improving infrastructure are important to enhancing the lives of
all San Diegans. This new technology will give the City and developers the opportunity to
make our neighborhoods safer and smarter,” said San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer.
Together, we’re making the future a reality in San Diego.
