Summary
Moving from A-B is slowly being revolutionised through data. Car-sharing and ride-hailing are just the beginning. Thousands of connected devices are currently monitoring data points, and although stand-alone analysis can be useful, true innovation occurs when these data sets are combined to transform into something new.
In the near future, IoT data explosion and the API revolution will collide to change city planning, urban movement and the role of the car in the 21st century.
- First off, we set out to understand what big data means in the context of transportation, answering questions such as what is it, where is it coming from, and what can you do with it.
- Next, we'll zoom out and apply these learning to transport innovation in a wider context, considering how it will influence concepts such as urban movement, social mobility, and quality of life.
- Finally, we'll discuss the relationship between open data and innovation.

Building Purchase Intent on Mobile
Since the beginning, TV has been used to build awareness and drive purchase intent. Entire companies and industries were built on that. But as users are now shifting to mobile, advertisers will need to learn how to build awareness and intent there. This has been a challenge for many advertisers and online media for some time. All the big players (from Google to Facebook) are now heavily investing in developing new solutions for advertisers to reach users at the top of the funnel (TOFU). While many new solutions already exist, advertisers and agencies have yet to find the perfect mix that will actually have an impact on the bottom of the funnel (BOFU) as well. The first companies to master the digital TOFU and MOFU (middle of the funnel) will be tomorrow's winners.

The future media agency is not an agency
20 years ago, an average media plan took around 50 decisions to make. Today, it is more like 5.000. Without an artificial intelligence, you cannot longer keep up. Let's face the truth, the game is changing, transparency counts more than trust and media agencies must re-think their business. Andreas will show you how A.I. can already be successfully integrated into the strategic media planning and how it can allow as to make smarter, data driven decisions in order to maximize ROI across our marketing mix.

The Open Suite Approach: How to ride the shock waves of a changing webbkraft
Session: "Founders inventing the future" @ jboye arhuus conference 2014
Today, you might be concerned about Customer Experience Management. 10 years from now, the business you are in today might not even exist anymore. When the Internet of Things happens for real, change will be very swift, and it will touch every enterprise. Your business will turn into a Digital Business – or fail. So how can you ride the shock waves of a changing web?
Many marketing teams commit too quickly to a single vendor’s promise of solving all your issues right here, right now. We believe that to succeed in an ever changing web, your most important decision today is that of the web infrastructure. It should be solid, flexible, ease-to-use and highly customizable, be mobile-ready and be able to integrate with anything quickly -– from CRM to ERP to E-commerce to a myriad of marketing tools. In other words, it needs to take into account that the future is uncertain, with or without the disruption of the internet of things and the rise of digital business. To go there, we propagate an Open Suite approach – in essence the choice of a solid platform that allows you to quickly integrate whatever you need most, a platform that allows you to unify your customer communication and interaction and to combine the best available tools for the job without any vendor restrictions.
The talk will introduce you to the coming age of digital business, highlight the benefits an Open Suite approach to your web infrastructure and prepare you for your future as a digital business manager.

In the UK there are hundreds of wind farm applications made every year. This data is recorded and provided free of charge by Renewables UK and DECC. There are thousands of applications listed in these databases. Some of the proposed turbines in these applications will interfere with radar due to their height and location, many will not. In order to assess where to focus our efforts we need to identify where these are, on what scale the developments, which radars they are likely to interfere with and at what stage of planning they are at.
When these developments have been identified, we need to establish the best location to position our 3D radar so we can successfully mitigate the effects of wind turbines on surrounding radars.

Cities and companies around the world try to emulate the quality and pace of innovation that happens within Silicon Valley. Our vision is to bring the culture of innovation that Silicon Valley fosters to Bangalore, India. Silicon Valley embraces failure, so that’s a value we promote at CognitiveClouds. We teach our developers to fail quickly, learn from their mistakes and try a better approach. We also learn from other leading organizations within Silicon Vally. Through our partnership with Google, we’ve learned how to conduct design sprints, and we now use design sprints as part of our standard development process. We think all our engineers should work smarter instead of harder, so we invest in tools and processes that leading innovators use and follow. We believe an average developer with great tools and processes is more efficient and effective than a rockstar developer with no tools.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

CONSUMER PARKING
Parking apps can show users real-time parking availability, direct to the
nearest open spot, and track the length of stay to charge by the minute.
77% of ParkMobile users (n=30,000) said that finding a spot is their
biggest frustration.
GUIDED ENFORCEMENT
Enforcement solutions can verify the occupancy of expired spots before
sending an officer to issue a citation, increasing efficiency by up to 2 -3X!
Our pilot showed that enforcement captured just 5% of the total
number of violations at least 30 minutes long.
NATIVE ANALYTICS
Cities can use native occupancy analytics instead of deriving occupancy
from transactional data to make better informed decisions.
Our pilot found 30% of minutes parked were unpaid, so transactions
are flawed inputs for occupancy data.
