4. INTRODUCTION
A compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by
reducing its volume.
An air compressor is a specific type of gas compressor.
As gases are compressible, the compressor also reduces the volume of a gas.
5. TYPES OF COMPRESSOR
There are following types of compressors
Positive displacement
1) Reciprocating compressor
2) Ionic liquid piston compressor
3) Rotary screw compressor
4) Rolling piston
5) Diaphragm compressor
7. Reciprocating Compressor
A reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive displacement
compressor that uses pistons driven by a crank shaft to deliver gases at high
pressure.
This type of compressor uses piston cylinder arrangement to compress the air
8. There are two types of reciprocating compressors
1)single acting reciprocating compressor:-
In single acting reciprocating pump
piston reciprocate only In one dire-
on.
9. 2)Double acting reciprocating compressor:-
In double acting reciprocating pump
both side are effectively use to com-
press the air
10. SPECIFICATION OF COMPRESSOR USED
Pressure :- 90 PSI = 6.201 bar
Capacity :- 8L
Power :- 1HP
Zero maintenance oil free single acting reciprocating compressor
11. SINGLE ACTING RECIPROCATING PUMP
In this type of compressor , the piston back and forth inside the cylinder and
compress the air .
There are two sets of valves that take care of air intake and exhaust
12. Working :-
The compressor takes inside successive amount of volume of air from int-
ake valve and confined it in closed surface at that time piston moves do-
wnwards the with the closure of intake valve.
Then there is compression of air by reducing its volume.
Now the piston moves upward and compress the air and then displace the
compressed air through exhaust valve.
14. DISADVANTAGES
Sound too much. You have to arrange a room for it or to put it into isolating
box
High outlet temperature of compressed air
High oil content in the pipe
15. APPLICATION
Reciprocating pump generally seen where there is requirement of high
pressure and low flow .
Mostly where the air is used for hand-tool , cleaning dust, small paint jobs,
commercial uses. etc
