Dr. Mandar Kodgule, Vice President of Global IP and Strategic Planning at Wockhardt, presented to post-graduate students on recent strategies in pharmaceutical innovation. He discussed trends in diabetes medicines from 1984 to 2013, including the introduction of newer drug classes like GLP-1 analogues and SGLT-2 inhibitors. He also outlined strategic trends in pharma innovation like increased life expectancy, fewer side effects, and progress in quality of life. Finally, he predicted that disruptive technologies and breakthrough technologies will be major change agents in pharmaceutical innovation in the coming years.
