AYURVEDIC PHARMACY
EDUCATION
Ayurvedic pharmacy education is emerging as an
independent science largely due to the global acceptance of
ayurvedic pharmacy is not a new subject but recently it has
faced drastic transison.
It has roots in rasa shastra, dravyaguna, and bhajahjya
kapana and utilizes drugs on composite origin including
plants, animals and marine source.
Education in ayurveda in two distinct disciplines
1)Medical,
2)Pharmaceutical.

that is still being successfully used in many countries.
Even though time tested evidences, immense therapeutic benefits for
ayurvedic herbs and formulations to be resolved the implementation of

products could bring tremendous leads to ayurvedic drug discovery.
FORMULATIONS IN AYURVEDA
Generally formulations in ayurveda are two types
1)Traditional formulations
2)Patented and proprietary medicines
CURRENT SCENARIO OF AYURVEDI
INDUSTRY
This was mainly on account of lack of awareness and initiative by its
practitioners , industry and even the government. we have been non-
receptive and reclusive for modern techniques and advancement that
has occurred in the modern pharma industry .
CURRENT SCENARIO OF AYURVEDIC
DRUG INDUSTRY
The major hurdle in the wider acceptability of Ayurveda and its
products is the lack of proper standardization techniques and its
unpreparedness to accept global challenges.
The quality of raw drugs used in manufacturing as well as the finished
drugs of Ayurveda and other traditional systems from India are seen
with a suspicion.
CURENT SCENARIO OF
AYURVEDIC DRUG INDUSTRY
We need to reassure our global partners by providing them evidence
of quality of medicines we prepare in terms of reproducible efficacy
and standardization.
Some of the reasons for our unpreparedness are: lack of good teachers
and good institutions of learning. barring a few like Banaras hindu
university (varanasi) , Gujarat ayurved university and National
institute of ayurveda, most of the other colleges are either just average
or even below the acceptable limits .
DEVELOPMENT OF AYURVEDIC
FORMULATIONS
The new product development activity has two components.
First is the efforts towards designing new drug formulations based on
classical knowledge and past experience. These drugs are optimized
formulations for dealing with new ailments of modern man as well as
the conventional ailments.
Second a project is progressing to improve the dosage presentation
forms of conventional formulations in order to render them more user
complaint.
STANDARDIZATION OF AYURVEDIC
PRODUCTS
1)To analyze and structure of finished product.
2)Safety and side effects of the formulations.
3)Correct doses and duration of the treatment.
4)Mode of action.
STANDARDIZATION OF AYURVEDIC
PRODUCTS
They developed manufacturing process protocols
according to the available resources and facilities in that
time which was carried under their supervision at their
ashrams. there was a strong tradition of guru-shishya
parampara.
If we review their instructions, we will find that they had
developed guidelines for the manufacturing of these
medicines by deciding the following factors.
