WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY THAT HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO
LOTS OF INFORMATION. HOWEVER, NOT ALL OF
THIS INFORMATION IS TURNED INTO KNOWLEDGE.
HOW DO I TURN ALL THE
INFORMATION I AM EXPOSED TO TO
KNOWLEDGE? WHAT IS IMPORTANT
TO KNOW AND WHAT MAY BE
DISREGARDED?
• "READING" IS THE PROCESS OF LOOKING AT A SERIES
OF WRITTEN SYMBOLS AND GETTING MEANING
FROM THEM. WHEN WE READ, WE USE OUR EYES TO
RECEIVE WRITTEN SYMBOLS (LETTERS,
PUNCTUATION MARKS AND SPACES) AND WE USE
OUR BRAIN TO CONVERT THEM INTO WORDS,
SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS THAT COMMUNICATE
SOMETHING TO US.
• MANY PEOPLE CAN READ BUT THEY DON’T TRULY
UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE READING. READING
AND UNDERSTANDING ARE DIFFERENT THINGS.
.
READING THE WORLD PRECEDS
READING THE WORD. PAULO FREIRE.
• SIMPLY PUT, READING COMPREHENSION IS
THE ACT OF UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU ARE
READING. IT IS AN INTENTIONAL, ACTIVE, AN
INTERACTIVE PROCESS THAT OCCURS BEFORE,
DURING AND AFTER A PERSON READS A
PARTICULAR PIECE OF WRITING.
WISDOM IS NOT A PRODUCT OF SCHOOLING
BUT OF THE LIFELONG ATTEMPT TO ACQUIRE IT.
ALBERT EINSTEIN
• IT MEANS THAT ALL THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE
PERSON HAS ABOUT THE WORLD WILL BENEFIT
HIM FROM UNDERSTANDING A TEXT.
CONSEQUENTLY, ALL THE PREVIOUS
KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE TOPIC SHOWED ON
THE TEXT WILL MAKE THE PERSON’S LIFE
EASIER.
NOTHING IS A WASTE OF TIME IF YOU USE THE
EXPERIENCE WISELY.
– AUGUSTE RODIN
• DIFFERENT WORDS EMERGE FROM TEXTS AT
FULL SPEED. IS IT TIME TO FEEL DESPERATE?
• THE TEST-MAKERS EVALUATE WHETHER YOU CAN
FIND THE MAIN IDEA, MAKE INFERENCES, FIND
THE AUTHOR'S PURPOSE, UNDERSTAND
VOCABULARY WORDS, SOME OF WHICH MAY
HAVE NEVER BEEN INTRODUCED TO YOU
BEFORE.
DON’T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY OF UNDERSTANDING FROM
THE CONTEXT. LOOK AT WHAT COMES BEFORE AND AFTER
THAT WORD. THE SURROUNDING WORDS CAN GIVE
READERS HELPFUL CONTEXT CLUES ABOUT THE MEANING
AND STRUCTURE OF THE NEW WORD, AS WELL AS HOW IT
IS USED.
DO YOU USE THE DICTIONARY EVERY TIME YOU READ
SOMETHING IN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE?
I HOPE YOU DON’T. IT’S A WASTE OF TIME.
