Title : Talesand the Development of English Critical Reading for matayomsuksa 4 students

The purposes of this report were 1) to construct eight Thai tales and four I-Sarn tales for
matayomsuksa 4 students with the efficiency of 80/ 80 2) to construct the in - class English
critical reading exercises with the efficiency of 80/80 3) to compare the post test mean score with
the pretest mean score of the students participants and 4 ) to determine the effectiveness index of the
constructed tales
The subjects of the report were 66 matay0oms8uksa 4 students studying at
Banchamamaharat Scchool, Ubom Ratchatani Eductional Service area 1, in the second semester of
the academic year 2006,which were simple random sampling selected. The subjects were taught
English critical reading an hour per week, using eight constructed Thai tales and four I-Sarn
constructed tales for 12 hours plus 2 hour for pretest and posttest
The instruments used for data collecting included 1) the eight Thai tales and the four I-Sarn
tales 2) the twelve English critical reading exercise 3) the thirty items pretest and posttest with the
discrimination indices ranges from 0.29 -0.46, the difficulty indices ranges from 0.53-0.75 and the
reliability value of 0.78. The statistic used were a percentage, a mean, a standard deviation, and a
t-test ( Dependent Samples).
The findings were as followed:
1. The efficiency of the tales was found at 88.65/ 84.84
2. The efficiency of the English critical reading exercise was found at 88.65
3. The posttest scores were significantly higher than the pretest score at the level of P<.05
