Similarities And Differences Led By Bradford And The...
In this essay I will be discussing similarities and differences of colonies of Plymouth which was
lead by Bradford and the Jamestown plantations which was lead by John Smith and I will be
discussing which one I would have wanted to be a part of.Both Captain Bradford brought 100

The Jamestown Colony was majority men which wanted to get rich, everyone was for themselves

What Are The Similarities And Differences Between Koalas...
Frogs are a large, carnivorous group of small bodied, tailless amphibians who on average live for
10 12 years. In contrast, koalas are arboreal herbivores and are marsupials that are native to
Australia who can live up to 18 years, old according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koala.
Although, these two animals, like many other creatures, are unfortunately endangered but for
various reasons. There are countless problems facing towards koalas and frogs and they are
obviously not all the same. The troubles that the koalas and frogs face can easily be compared
and contrasted. Scientists have been looking for ways to save koalas and frogs, but they do not
all work. Therefore, there are many similarities and distinctions between the problems for frogs
and koalas. As a matter of fact, there are not too many similarities between the problems for these
animals. Nonetheless, there is one major thing that has caused both of these animals to be
endangered species, and that one thing is the work of humans. Without a doubt, humans
specifically play a crucial role in killing off frogs and koalas around the globe. One particular part
of these animals lives that are essential to them living is their habitat. Unfortunately, as the human
population is growing at a fast rate, more and more of these habitats... Show more content on

Even though both of these animals are endangered, it is obviously for very different reasons, frogs

blue gum trees, goats eating away more blue gum trees, their main food source getting taken away,
and getting killed for their fur. Therefore, all the struggles with these animals including pollution
and human interactions can eventually lead to the unfortunate extinction of both koalas and

SQL Server Vs. Oracle Data Types Database
While designing and defining tables in databases, it is important to find out the data type for each
column in the data tables. A data type is an attribute which defines the type of data an object can
retain: integer, string, data and time, etc. There are basically three main types: text, numbers and
date/times. The data types are different, depending on the database management system (DBMS),
the various types of which include SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL.

Many Oracle reserved words are valid object or column names in Microsoft SQL Server. For
example, DATE is a reserved word in Oracle, but it is not a reserved word in Microsoft SQL Server.
Therefore, no column is allowed to have the name DATE in Oracle, but a column can be named
DATE in Microsoft SQL Server. Use of reserved words as schema object names makes it impossible
to use the same names across databases.
You should choose a schema object name that is unique by case and by at least one other

Psychology Paper on My MotherВґs Student
Not everyone has the luxury of good health and a good home life. When someone has either bad
health, or a bad home life, there is plenty of pity to be felt; but when those two factors are
combined, it paints a whole new picture. It is important to do everything in one s power to help
them through the tough time and make it as painless as possible. That is exactly what I did in the
case of one of my mother s students. She was having back surgery due to severe scoliosis, while
also dealing with a mother who was addicted to painmedication. This girl was very worried that
after the surgery was over and she was sent home, she would not be able to take her medication,
fearing that her mother would take it for herself. When I heard that this student had asked my
mother to accompany her for her procedure in Kansas City, I saw this as a golden opportunity. I
could finally find out who this girl was that my mother was so caught up with, staying up at
night worrying about. I could finally understand who I was sharing my mother with, and why.
When I walked into the hospital room after her procedure, my mother s student was on a myriad
of powerful painkillers, much to her dismay. This girl was terrified of taking the medication,
because she did not want to end up like her mother. The girl s mother also had Scoliosis, and had
developed a dependency for her pain medication, leading up to her developing a tolerance for it
and taking her daughter s pills as well. My mother s

Analysis Of The Movie Arundel Partners
Arundel Partners wants to buy the rights to produce the sequels in advance rather than
negotiating on a film by film basis because otherwise, the studios will have an informational
advantage. Later on in the production process, studios will have a greater idea of the quality of
the film, making them less likely to sell the rights to more profitable sequels. Advanced rights to
the entire portfolio of films mitigates this informational asymmetry and creates an options
pricing model for Arundel. There is value in Arundel s right to forgo production of the sequel if
they discover that the original is a flop. If Arundel chooses to forgo producing a sequel, in this
model they are now only taking a $2M loss. To the movie studios, Arundel s proposal creates
great value. By offering the cash for all movies in advance, Arundel is providing upfront financing
to the cash hungry studios, allowing them the resources to pursue other projects, especially big
budget blockbusters that have substantial negative costs. The guaranteed profit of the sequel
rights fees abolishes some risk for the studios, even though it eliminates their potential upside. By
purchasing the rights to an entire portfolio of films from the studios, it also serves Arundel to
diversify away the risks of individual films, much like investing in diversified funds of market
indexes. Based on the attached analysis, 26 of the 99 potential sequels are profitable to pursue as
they have a positive NPV. The NPV of the

Caroline Bird Education
In the modern world, the value and the relevance of college education is a controversial issue.
People hold varied views on this issue: some people are of the view that college education is the
only mean to succeed in life and to achieve one s goals in life; some other people think that the
value of collegeeducationlies in the fact that college education offers the young learners a
conducive environment to grow and to be able to make mature decisions about themselves later
in life. There are other people, like Caroline Bird, whose article we are going to critique in this
paper, who see college education as a sheer waste of time and money for the majority of people.
This paper focuses on Bird s article College is a Waste of Time and Money , the paper analyses
and critiques the arguments that Bird offers in support of her view that college education is a
sheer waste of time and money for the majority of people. The paper concludes with a
recommendation on what need to be done so as to improve college education.

students who have been interviewed on whether or not they enjoy and like college education. Bird
argues that statistics have shown that more than 20% of college students do not like college
education. Bird, therefore, bases her claims on these statistics. The second strength of Bird s
argument lies in the fact that Bird claims that college education may not have as high financial
returns as many people think; Bird is right in her claim that financially, in the modern world, in
some instances investing in college may be the dampest form of investment. Despite these
strengths, however, Bird committed two logical fallacies in support of her

Proprietary Technologies Vs. Infrastructural Technology
Proprietary technologies vs. Infrastructural technology
Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For
instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is
an example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more
value when shared rather than used by a single organization. A company having all the rights to
building railroads is an example of Infrastructural technology. This company can operate efficiently,
but the effect to the economy is greater if the technology is shared and companies build railroads
that can connect more buyers and sellers. Holding proprietary technologies, according to ... Show

In fact, IT is nothing like transport or electricity, and according to Ben Bernanke, we are in the
early days of the IT revolution as computing speed and memory continue to increase we ve only
scratch the surface3.
Carr s reasons why IT is a Commodity
IT, according to Carr, has become affordable to all and therefore, it has been a commodity. He
further argues that the use commodities do not lead to a completive advantage, and believes that IT
has become commoditized for the following reasons:
IT is highly replicable
The arrival of the internet has accelerated the its commoditization
IT is subject to rapid price deflation
I agree with Carr s assessment on the commoditization of IT to some degree. For instance, it
makes no sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar
product can be bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application,
they simple buy one that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office).
I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize
this trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace
customized application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of
IT by providing a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization
will obtain their IT requirement by purchasing fee based web services

The company may not distribute the whole of its profits among its shareholders. It may retain a

5. Term loans from banks
As with short term finance, banks are an important source of longer term finance. Many industrial
development banks, cooperative banks and commercial banks grant medium term loans for a
period of three to five years. For businesses, using bank loans might be relatively easy but the cost
of servicing the loan (paying the money and interest back) can be high. If interest rates rise then it
can add to a businesses cost.

One key problem with the worksheet selected, is that it names the 3D shape that will be created

In the year 1765, a well acclaimed group arose when the British enforced the Stamp Act. The

without representation and they called themselves the Sons of Liberty. They believed themselves
as patriots fighting for their rights but I view them as terrorist. They are terrorist because they

Yes, as a group they had some mishaps with a few radicals, but they are learning from their

Introduction
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Chinese government put in place the One Child Policy in
order to limit the majority of families to one child each and reduce China s population growth rate.
In reality, China s One Child Policy consisted of many one child policies, which were generally
better implemented and stricter in urban areas than in rural areas. Variations of the general one

(100) Because of the sharp drop in fertility rates and rise in longevity since 1980, elderly people
currently constitute a large, growing proportion of China s population. In addition to these
demographic transformations, the human consequences of China s population policies are
widespread. Women forced to undergo abortions and/or sterilizations suffer from emotional trauma,
whereas non firstborn children are undocumented and legally unrecognized by society, lacking
access to education, public services, and employment. In accordance with the goals of state
population policies, China s fertility and birth rates after 1980 have drastically dropped, yet the
unforeseen consequences of these population policies will continue to affect China for many years
to come.
Many scholars have researched China s population policies and its consequences. The health effects
from sterilizations and forced abortions have been well investigated.1 The mental health of the first
versus second and third children has also been compared in multiple studies.2 In Just One Child,
Susan Greenhalgh argues that a lack of scientific judgment and input gave rise to the One Child
Policy. However, there is a lack of research into the cultural determinants leading to the development
of China s population policies and the effects that state population policies have had on ideas about
sexuality and sexual health in China.

The Theory, Cognitive, And Information Processing
Learning has become a central focus in this fast developing world. Education is becoming more
and more valuable due to economic advancements. According to text on page 307, Learning can be
defined as a relatively permanent influence on behavior, knowledge and thinking skills that comes
about through experience. Each person has a unique way of learning, and for a child, it is the
teacher s responsibility to understand how each child learns. There are several different learning
theories. However, we will be discussing these three main theories Behavioral, Social Cognitive, and
Information Processing. Behaviorismis everything that we can directly observe. According to the
text on page 308, For the behaviorist, behavior is everything that we do, both verbal or
nonverbal, that can be directly seen or heard. The learner starts off as a clean sheet of paper
through positive or negative reinforcement behavior is shaped. In contradiction, punishment
positive or negative decreases the probability that the previous behavior will happen again.
Behaviorism is for beginner developing mind who is starting to learn something new, or for
training a pet. For example, as I recently started learning bicycle riding; as a beginner, I was told
to sit on the bike while my instructor who happened to be my husband hold the bike from behind,
as I push down on the pedals with my feet to move the bike. At this point, balancing is an
important part of riding the bike as I started to

Illegal Online Music Downloading, The Consequences For The...
The internet is one of the greatest and most significant inventions of the 20th century. It has become
the biggest data foundation to receive all kinds of information, particularly knowledge related to
education and improving one s skills. Downloads are needed in order to receive data from computer
networks which are remote systems, typically a server. Copyrighted content needs to have
appropriate permission to download it and without this permission doing so could constitute
copyrightinfringement. According to Towers (2011), on line piracy generally refers to sharing over
the internet copies of works that are not authorised or illegal downloading of software, movies,
videogames and music. Copyrighted works are distributed illicitly through Internet chat rooms,
newsgroups and peer to peer file trading networks. All of these kinds of internet copyright
infringement are crimes that should be punished by law. This essay will discuss illegal online music
downloading, the consequences for the music industry and artists, and will introduce two solutions
in terms of the law in relation to this issue. Finally, an evaluation of these solutions will be given.
Illegal music downloads have caused a massive fall in the sales and income of the labels and
artists, which has been driving them to bankruptcy quicker. According to Li (2015:20), mentions
Each year, the industry loses about $4.2 billion to piracy worldwide . Between 2000 and 2003,
sales numbers fell 16% (Duenner, 2009). After

Carol Berkin s Revolutionary Mothers
Revolutionary Mothers: Women in the Struggle for America s Independence (2004) written by
Carol Berkin, the book is about the way the women were affected in the Revolutionary War from
1775 to 1783.
Carol Berkin is a professor at both Baruch College, and the Graduate Center of the City
University of New York, teaching American Colonial and Revolutionary History and also
Women s History. Berkin received her B.A. from Barnard College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from
Columbia University. She is also the author of various books including First Generations: Women
of Colonial America (1996), A Brilliant Solution: Inventing the American Constitution (2001),
and Civil War Wives: The Life and Times of Angelina Grimke Weld, Varina Howell Davis, and
Julia Dent Grant (2009). Berkin s purpose in writing Revolutionary Mothers was to show how the
women were affected. She writes about Abigail Adams, Betsy Ross, and Molly Pitcher on how the
women struggled physically and mentally to survive during this war. Also how they struggle to be
heard by the men as they where just kept and forgotten in the background of this war, and not given
into perspective in what the had to say.

Cyclohexene And Simple Distillation Lab Report
Part 1, week one, of this experiment consisted of the Synthesis of Cyclohexene and Simple
Distillation. A 5ml short necked, round bottomed flask was obtained to add 3.0mL of
cyclohexanol into it. Then, 0.75mL of 85% phosphoric acid using a pipette as well as adding a few
boiling chips, to prevent bumping. The flask was then connected to the simple distillationapparatus.
To set this apparatus up, micro kit, such as the following, were used to build it: short necked, round
bottom flask, Viton connector with a support rod. A distillation head with a 105В° connecting
adapter, air condenser, rubber connector, thermometer, thermometer adapter, Erlenmeyer flask that
was used as the receiving flask, and a sand bath. The thermometer was carefully inserted into the
rubber connector by holding the thermometer close to the adapter and sliding it in the connector
using a twisting like motion; this was done while avoiding any forcing action which would have
led to breaking of the thermometer. After the apparatus was built, the thermometer was fixed
therefore its bulb was below the side arm and was not touching the sides of the glass; which
ensured that the thermometer recorded the temperature of vapors which were distilling off. The
apparatus was lowered making the round bottomed flask rest in the sand bath and tilting it therefore
the condenser end is resting on the Erlenmeyer flask. The sand bath was turned on to start heating
the reaction mixture. The reaction was boiled for 10 minutes before distilling was proceeded. After
the ten minutes, the temperature of the sand bath was increased and distilling of the cyclohexene
was commenced. The distillation head was wrapped with aluminum foil to prevent heat from going
out. A spatula was used to adjust the sand surrounding the round bottomed flask to control the
amount of heat that it tales in; it was adjusted therefore making the rate of distillation not faster
than 2 drops per minute. Vapors were directed through the air condenser and were condensed back
into liquid into the receiving flask. The simple distillation distilling temperature range was collected
by recording the temperature of the first drop of distillate that is collect and the temperature of the
last drop

information about the hummingbird, which holds the smallest, capable, and fragile heartin the

flowers a day. They can dive at sixty miles an hour. They can fly backward. They can fly more
than five hundred miles without pausing to rest. (273) are examples of how Brian Doyle uses the
factual support, as well as emotional triggers to provide a semblance of deep understanding between
the rhetorician and the audience.
His writing style is poetic, fluctuating between short and concise to long, organic, and flowing
sentence structures. For example, he utilizes short, concise sentence structures to imitate the quick
fluttering of the hummingbird s flying patterns: Consider the hummingbird for a long moment. A
hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil
eraser. A hummingbird s heart is a lot of the hummingbird (273) . In contrast to the short, concise
sentences, he uses the opposite effect when describing the heart of the blue whale. Instead, he
uses long sentences and traditional words that are separated by commas to force his readers to
read slowly and deliberately: . . . for next to nothing is known of the mating habits, travel patterns,
diet, social life, language, social structure, diseases, spirituality, wars, stories, despairs, and arts of
the blue whale (274). He also uses other methods to evoke feeling from his readers.

What Is The Disinterest In High School
Disinterest in High School
Throughout my years in the classroom, student interest in academics has decreased tremendously.
Moreover, no longer are students interested in sitting quietly, taking notes while the teacher
disseminates information. Students want and need active engagement. They want to participate
fully in the acquisition of knowledge. In this 21 century world, educators need to find new and
innovative methods to galvanize students in becoming active participants in their education.
Who Am I?
I have been a classroom teacher for twenty three years, during which I have taught in Las Vegas,

Turlock is a mid sized, conservative city that boasts a population of just under 73,000 residents;
however, it has an extremely small town feel as it is a highly agricultural area. There are two

Activated Alumina Research Paper
Silica Gel Silica gel is silicon dioxide (SiO2) manufactured as small round beads with a large pore
surface area (Figure 19). The water contained in the gas vapor is adsorbed by the desiccant at
relatively low temperatures. Silica gel is 97% silica and 3% alumina with a porous surface and
strong adsorbing qualities. Silica gel fractures in the presence of liquid water, so it is important
to separate the liquid and gas ahead of a silica gel desiccant unit. Some manufacturers use a pre
bed of activated alumina to protect the silica gel from water droplets that may enter the dryer. In
air and gas drying applications, dew points of 40В°C ( 40В°F) and lower can be achieved with

The World On The Terrorism
When looking at the terrorism that ISIS has endued it has become very evident that a solution
needs to be drawn into action. In my opinion the only way to take down this organization is to
begin to treat it like the state that it is. A state is defined as: a nation or territory considered as an
organized political community under one government. ISIS has not only gained territory in Syria,
Iraq and Istanbul but according to New York Times columnist, Tim Arango, ISIS is building a
capacity to govern. In 2014, ISIS formally informed the world on their establishment of a caliphate.
This caliphate is governed under Islamic beliefs and rulers. They have begun issuing
identification cards for residents, promulgating fishing guidelines to preserve stocks, and
requiring that cars carry tool kits for emergencies (Arango). Believe it or not, ISIS has been a
state for two years, regardless of their lack of legitimacy, their consistent threat of violence against
any of those who oppose their beliefs allows them not only to get things done, but get them done
efficiently. Whether we want to accept it, ISIS is a state, and we need to treat it as such.
On the 29th of June in 2014, ISIS announced that a caliphate has been establish and the caliph was
to be Caliph Ibrahim. The saying goes, In order to kill a snake, one must cut off its head. The
head of ISIS is the caliphate in Iraq/Syria. I believe that collapsing the caliphate will collapse the
organization. I have a proposed

Eliminating Discrimination In The Workplace Essay examples
As a business consultant I have been asked to suggest different methods that can possibly reduce
discrimination and prejudice in the workplace. Is it possible however to make everyone get along
and ignore their differences? According to the growing research on discrimination and prejudice,
these are learned behaviors that with practice can be unlearned, and ultimately eliminated (Baron
Branscombe, 2012, p. 195). Discriminationis defined as the negative treatment of different groups:
Prejudice, on the other hand is viewed as the negative emotions or attitudes associated with

2723). Many researchers agree that one seems to be closer or more cohesive to their own group
and associate a sense of pride for each other; on the other hand, they tend to fear the out group
because they are seen as the competitors, the enemies, and the traitors (Ramasubramanian, 2010;
Baron Branscombe, 2012; Hirsh Lyons, 2010). Clearly this creates a disconnection between
groups which make them feel a sense of threat for one another and prejudice feelings become
more evident, while differences between the two appear. One of the most common theories that
explain why prejudice persists today, as it relates to the workplace, is called realistic conflict
theory (Baron Branscombe, 2012). This psychological theory states that prejudice is more frequent
when competition arises in a situation where there are limited resources that only one group can
claim (Bobo, 1983). However, since discrimination is a learned behavior as mentioned earlier, thus
one can conclude that it can be socially influenced; therefore, behavior can be altered (Bobo Fox,
2003).
With that being said, there are many methods and practices that can be used to reduce
discrimination and prejudice feelings in the workplace between groups of different social status or
authority (Dixon et al., 2010). These methods are recognized as interpersonal

Scene Analysis Of Goodfellas
For my scene analysis, I will be talking about the scenes in Martin Scorsese s film, Goodfellas
that take place inside the nightclub. The film portrays the true story of mobster Henry Hill
(played by Ray Liotta) who grows up in the mob and works hard to advance himself through the
ranks. He enjoys his life of money and luxury, but is oblivious to the horror that he causes.
During the film, the mobsters spend a lot of their time enjoying themselves at a nightclub they
frequent called the Copacabana . In Goodfellas, the Copacabana is a high class nightclub littered
with mafia gangsters and low key lighting with a red tint and a Hawaiian theme. The scenes were
shot by cinematographer, Michael Ballhaus. Inside the club, the lighting is primarily dark with a
tint of red which appears to be coming from the practicals seen within the shots. This is clearly to
give off a dark mafia vibe within the setting of the film. The DP wants the audience to have a
sense of slight discomfort within the nightclub and to foreshadow the dark events that take place
throughout the rest of the film. The style of lighting displays the mafia lifestyle as something that
is filled with murder, deception, and constant fear . Bright lighting is only used during happy
events during the film such as Henry and Karen s wedding and to give off positive vibes for that
moment. The scenes inside the nightclub seem to have a lighting ratio of around 8:1, so it s
accurate to say the setting appeared pretty

The Last September Essay

difficulties which faced the Irish Anglo genre. It was one of many novels published in the
nineteenth and twentieth century, based on Big House life in Ireland. Bowen herself is critical of
the Anglo Irish gentry as she believes that they are responsible for the downfall in the society. The
denial of their predicament and also their refusal to except change had caused Bowen to be
censorious of them. She expresses her points of symbolism, imagery and characterization using a
variety of tactful techniques. In the analysis these factors and techniques will be discussed in

The author emphasizes the pressure that is now forcing Lois to marry and to produce an heir so
the property can be passed on for more generations. Lois no longer sees Big House lifestyle as
viable and therefore further adds to the confusion in which she is facing. Lois, as the only
alternative heir, complains that she feels trapped in a cocoon and longs for some other kind of
existence. (Genet., J, p149, 1991) The ante room in which Lois visits frequently serves no
particular purpose and therefore symbolizes that indeed the room compares to Lois feelings within
herself of feeling lost and lonely. In her life deprived as she saw it there was no occasion for
courage, which like an unused muscle slackened and slept (Bowen., E, p33, 1998) Another point
which suggests Lois is lost and confused is the fact that often spends time walking outside the
boundaries of the house which symbolizes her need to escape from this façade, the so called
birthright of her generation. Fantasizing how life would be with out having the responsibility of
running the Danielstown House. Throughout the novel Bowen uses the unusual technique of
personifying the Danielstown house. It is a presence that becomes frequent throughout the poem.

Preeclampsia Research Paper
Preeclampsia is a condition that occurs only during pregnancy. Some symptoms of preeclampsia
may include high blood pressure and protein in the urine, occurring after week 20 of pregnancy.
Preeclampsia is often precluded by gestational hypertension. While high blood pressure during
pregnancy does not necessarily indicate preeclampsia, it may be a sign of another problem.
Preeclampsia affects at least 3 5% of pregnancies. If undiagnosed, preeclampsia can lead to
eclampsia, a serious condition that can put pregnant women and their baby at risk, and in rare
cases, cause death. Women with preeclampsia who have seizures are considered to have

Inequalities in Australian Schooling Essay
Inequalities in Australian Schooling: Sociocultural Factors in terms of Cultural Capital, Habitus
and Social Reproduction
There is a common, underlying perception that students from particular cultural and linguistic
backgrounds what is generally referred to as ethnicity have a predisposition towards educational
success in Australian schools (Watkins, 2013). Students from Anglo backgrounds, for example, are
often seen as having a cultural advantage whilst others, such as Middle Eastern students, are
perceived as culturally prone to underachievement. These claims confine ethnicity to fixed and
bound stereotypes, and see educational achievement as a result of the inherent qualities of these
groups (Watkins, 2013). However, ethnicity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, studies indicated that Indigenous Australians are significantly behind non indigenous
Australians in academic achievement (Bradley, Draca, Green Leeves, 2006). Geographical
remoteness, socioeconomic status and indigenous ethnicity and culture have a major influence on
educational success for Indigenous students. An example of this can be seen in rural indigenous
communities where indigenous economic systems are still used, forcing a gap in terms of both
geographical location and socioeconomic status (Altman, 2008). As a result of this gap, Indigenous
students from these areas are not able to obtain the same level of education as students living in
urban settings where colonial economic systems are recognised (Altman, 2008). These socio
cultural factors construct a specific cultural capital for indigenous students that is not widely
recognised in Australian schools as it is not the dominant capital presented in Western education
environments. Ultimately, this leaves indigenous students, specifically those in geographically
remote locations or of a socioeconomic status that doesn t allow a broader range of options, at an
educational disadvantage. Ethnicity, geographical location and socioeconomic status play an
important role in the construction of one s cultural capital and, as a consequence, one s ability to
obtain educational success in Australian schools.

Groundwater Contamination Research Paper
When there is an addition of undesired substances from human activities in the groundwater, it can
cause groundwater contamination. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination
in ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are
used in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead
to the groundwater contamination. These industrial wastes are dumped in storage tanks and they
leak, thus causing contamination. There is greater awareness of the issues and hazards of the
dumping of chemical wasteand there are laws restricting the dumping of this waste. Since many
individuals rely on groundwater for drinking water, many of them are drinking contaminated water.
Due to this, there are many health risks including, hepatitis, poisoning and cancer when exposed to
polluted water. As well, the wildlife can be harmed from the contaminated ground water. A good
disposal method of ground waste consists of a chemical treatment that is able to convert the
hazardous waste into environmentally safe materials. A highly toxic chemical, trichloroethylene,
becomes non toxic when the chlorine atoms are converted to chloride anions. As well, when
chromium containing waste has highly toxic chromate anions are converted into Chromium (III) ion,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Red Rock Canyon
In the city of Las Vegas, people go through the daily trails and tribulations that the city has to
offer. People constantly on the go, worried about the collection of money, pollution filling our
lungs and tackled with the constant worries of reality. Being in the city, it seems as there is no
escape from the madness that is being offered. Surrounded by the man made building and
artificial light that illuminates the struggle of these streets. Although, there is a place that offers
freedom about fifteen minutes away from the cities madness. A place where the air is fresh, a
place where gargantuan rocks act as buildings, a place where the sun, moon and stars are the source
of light and a place that provides freedom from the worries of the city. This center of nature
providing freedom from the busy city life is Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon as a space has a
rhetorical significance as a location of freedom from city life with the multitude of space it
provides. Red Rock Canyon serves as an example of space and place in rhetoricand also creates ties
to visual rhetoric with the unique scenery and imagery being offered. In addition aspects of
memory such as cultural memory and public memory can be connected to Red Rock. To begin
this analysis of Red Rock Canyon, is the notion of Red Rock Canyon being a place defined by
its theory of rhetoric. According to Danielle Enders and Samantha Senda Cook in their article
Rhetoric Matters: The Rhetoric of Place in Protest , Place refers to particular locations (e.g., a
city, a particular shopping mall, or a park) that are semi bounded, a combination of material and
symbolic qualities, and embodied. For example a city is semi bounded by city limits (semi
bounded because these limits can be a matter of debate, change over time, or be re drawn within
a single year), includes material structures like buildings and roads, has symbolic meanings such
as being perceived as a college town or an urban metropolis, and is experienced on a daily basis by
the people who live, work, or visit it ( Enders, Cook Pg.259, 2011). Red Rock Canyon itself is a
particular location that is semi bounded by rules and regulation that are set within

The Importance Of Language As A Multiple Language
Language is a powerful weapon used for a variety of purposes. It is a way for people to
communicate effectively and voice their thoughts, ideas, opinions, view and beliefs. We live in
a world of seven thousand languages to communicate with and a great percentage speak more
than one. For this reason, there is only one language that truly defines us; our native language.
Our native language is a part of our culture, and creates the foundation of who we are as
individuals. It is a way to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the world. The opportunities
provided to those with multiple languages are far greater than those who are not. Although,
speaking multiple languages is beneficial, individuals with multiple languages still face
criticism, judgement and rejection from their own people. Therefore, importance of proper word
selection, correct grammar is quite significant depending on who you communicate with.
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to learn and speak two different languages; English and
Spanish, However, speaking Spanish was not always my specialty. I often faced criticism, and
judgement from my own family, primarily from my extended family, on how I spoke the
language. According to them, my Spanish was broken, and the way I spoke the language was
incorrect. I remember asking myself, If my Spanish is incorrect, then what is the correct way to
speak it? . As a little kid, I never really understood the purpose for their comment, but as I grew
older, I began

Moses And The Sin Of The Israelite
The actual painting is large suggesting that the artist really wants this painting to be seen. Moses
is seen as larger than life size but yet Moses character does not give off an theatrical or a daring
persona. In this painting the colors really give off the feeling of the painting as well as it s
structure. In the painting you see Mosesholding the tablet over his head and the pitning stops right
at his waist and there are boulders constructing his path at all angles. The sin of the Israelitesis so
large that Moses feels conflicted when he has to destroyed the tablets, that god has constructed and
inscribed in. So the artist places Moses in a inadequate space. This overall outputs the emotional
aspect of the painting. The conflict that Moses

Evolution Of Criminal Vs Invicus
The documentary The Evolution of a Criminal by filmmaker Darius Clark Monroe and the poem
Invictus by William Ernest Henley correlate with each other. The themes are conveyed through
certain elements of speech, and that is pushing forward and not letting the past make your future,
despite the impenetrable disincentives. Both the document and the poem are both empowering, and
connects the reader to the documents. These relate to an audience that must overcome any type of
hardship in life. Both have great significances that are timeless and can be relevant to present and
future days. With the use of metaphors and foreshadowing, both arts revolve around conquering the
challenges one faces without faltering in the face of danger. Metaphors

Essay about Interwar Avant-Garde Artwork And Its Community...
The art and life aspects of the interwar avant garde are an advanced socially trivial form of art
which to a bigger extent is symbolic of the visual setting of the human community. It is the art of
expressionism in any artistic work which greatly influence its adaptation by the target audience. It
has been evidently claimed that most artistic works of the early twentieth century have had a
number of varied themes all encompassing the political environment of the time. The interwar avant
garde is a direct expression of the modernismin a society marked with low levels of civilization. It
is indeed the expressive nature of artistic works that we claim high levels of civilization in our
human society. This is the reason why art is quite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is to be noted and comprehended that such aspects need not to be typically true but should in their
presentation give the impression of reality or highly probability. It was such advanced
expressionism that greatly influenced military professionals while at war during the early twentieth
century.
It is also noted that avant grades gesture generally carries with it the notion of judgment on
actions that are considered shocking. Many modern society artworks are rarely acted without
incidences of bloody conflicts. This is particularly evidently witnessed in the warfare framed
artworks. It is the art of expressing irresponsibility and might I add chaotic revolution within a
movie or a working medium that makes the piece of art a truly unique masterpiece. It has
evidently been noted that the adaptability of any piece of art is highly reliant on the element of
visual modernity rather than an expression of the ultimate reality in the society. It is by involving
exaggerative acts in a movie that assimilation of the intended social aspect is easily realized.
Artworks must be appealing to the eyes of the audience. It is only from the visual appearance of the
artwork that determines whether or not the audience will give it a chance or not. The suspense
brought in art by the use of choking notion of judgment is what keeps the audience watching to find
out what happens

I.Preface
Being in a very high competitive business condition, a company has to be well prepared for every
potential business problem. One of the problems is for a company which will do such a business
expansion, they need to spend huge amount of money to make some new investments. For instance,
they need to have new capital assets to run their new business.
Due to the huge amount of money they have to spend, the company usually does not provide a
bundle of cash from their own pocket to get those kinds of new capital assets. To provide the new
capital assets needed, the company has some alternative solutions they can choose. Those ... Show

6.Lessor expects to obtain all of the carrying cost of the leased asset back, including the other costs

The advantages and disadvantages of leasing as an alternative of capital source are as follow
The advantages:
1.Full financing : leasing transaction is usually done without any down payment and the financing
can be given up to 100%
2.More flexible : leasing is said to be flexible compared to banking loan because the rental payment
can be arranged and matched to lessee ability
3.Off balance sheet : activa that is included into leasing category is not listed in the company asset
4.Consideration of technology advance : the company is avoided from the loss due to the fast
growth of technology
5.Incerase Debt Capacity
The disadvantages:
1.Force major
It is the cancellation of leasing transaction, for example due to a fire or natural disaster.
2.Default
It is the cancellation of leasing transaction because the lessee is not able to pay the lease payment
and other leasing liability so that finance lease contract is over prior the inception date.

Development And Evaluation Of Cognition Based Interventions
PhD upgrade overview In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the development and
evaluation of cognition based interventions (CBIs) for people with dementia in improving
cognition, and quality of life (QoL). However, little is known about the effects of these
interventions for carers who are actively involved and participate in CBIs alongside their relative.
In addition, it has been argued that engaging family carers in the therapeutic process is important
as it has the potential to improve mutual understanding and enhance carer well being. My PhD
research aims to evaluate the effects of carer involvement in CBIs for people with dementia on
carer well being. This report presents the progress my research which comprises... Show more

Chapter five describes a qualitative study which I conducted to explore the experiences and
perspectives of people with dementia and their carers while taking part in the iCST intervention.
Chapter six reports on my personal development and achievements and my PhD progress since
my starting date which was the 29th January 2013. Advancing age remains the single most
important risk factor for developing dementia (Luengo Fernandex, Leal, Gray 2010). It is
estimated that there are currently over 46 million people living with dementia worldwide
(World Alzheimer Report 2015), with a total of 835,000 people living with dementia in the UK
alone (Alzheimer s Society, 2014). Dementia is a major cause of disability for older people
(WHO, Dementia A Public Health Priority 2012). Dementia also remains a greatest challenge
for the society and has a huge economic impact on the health care system, people with dementia
and their families (Dowrick 2014). Alzheimer s disease (AD) is the most common cause of
dementia, accounting for up to 60% of all cases (Burns et al., 2006). AD is an age related
degenerative brain disorder which develops over a period of years, but is not a normal part of
aging (WHO 2015). AD can affect individuals in different ways, but for most people symptoms
begin by experiencing difficulty in remembering new information,

Post-Slavery And Economic Development In The American South
The post slavery economic development or lack thereof which ever maybe the case will be
explored by looking at three different articles. This paper will summarize these three articles then
it will compare and contrast these three articles. the purpose of comparing and contrasting these
three articles will be to see on what points do these authors agree on, what arguments do they
make that are similar, and what arguments or points do they disagree on. This paper will no
attempt to sway the reader one way or another it will be strictly a summary of the three articles
followed by a compare and contrast of the same articles.
The first article is titled, Class Structure and Economic Development in the American South, 1865
1955 . Here the author talks about economic development in the post slavery American south. The
author says that most people never attempt to understand the economic development in a

The Negative Impact Of Social Media And Politics
Social media has caused an uproar in recent times. Political figures such as President Trump,
have used social media to embarrass himself and the country, countless people lose jobs
everyday due to posts on social media, and Kids are influenced into making bad decisions because
of trends. One of the major key events in all of this is the development of Facebook . Facebook
was one of the very first platforms that allowed everyone to access it, ever since then, our modern
lifestyle has been in a decline. Social mediais a common tool in modern life, however, it has
caused many problems, including a corruption in our political system, damaging careers, and
having a negative impact on children. With social media having such a value to society today, it is
crucial to correct these errors in social media.
Politics is one area where social media can change the entire country. When social media was
introduced in a political candidate, it turned the voting system into a game, as shown by the article
Social Media and Politics As easy as it is for politicians to reach out to voters on sites like
Facebook, it is even easier for these online supporters to abandon politicians when the campaign
ends (Social Media and Politics). By this, the author is stating that people who are influenced to
vote by social media are likely to stop their support of the candidate after they win. This means that
voters no longer care about the long term effect of a vote, after they vote they lose interest.

Terrorism is prevalent throughout many countries all over the world with countless extremist
groups seeking the somewhat the same political or religious control. Terrorism became more
mainstream following events such as the bombing of The World Trade Center in 1993. Numerous
people knew that terrorism existed but many never really experienced or witnessed it first hand.
Entire nations change their approach to national security, intelligence, and law enforcement
depending on the way terrorism is defined, a process evidenced by recent changes in American
defense and law enforcement policy (White, p. 5). As certain terrorist incidents occurred they were
lessons learned by the United States as well as other countries who were victims. Terrorism has not
true color or victim for the missions and attacks committed are to harm innocent individuals in
order to intimidate a nation. Domestic and International terrorism are both profound styles of
terrorism. Domestic terrorism focuses more so on acts of terrorism committed by inhabitants of
their identifiable country whereas International terrorism is compelled by members of different
countries against citizens of another country. Several types of terrorism include Narcoterrorism
which is, the use of extreme force and violence by producers and distributors against a government
or population, intended to coerce that body to modify its behavior in their favor. (Dyson, p. 31).
Another sort of terrorism is Religious terrorism. This particular kind of terrorism is used by
religious zealots in order to weaken the leadership by compelling religious

The Modern Hero Of Beowulf
Aaron Payne
Mr. Walter
English IV
September 28
The Modern Hero
The art of leadership... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single
adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention (Adolf Hitler). Although Adolf
Hitler may have been one of the worst men in history, he had a similar rise to power as the Geatish
warrior Beowulf did. He gained his leadership by showing up to Germany in their time of need and
telling them that he can fix their economic depression after WWII. Throughout the epic poem,
Beowulf demonstrates a leadership style that is very effective; however, it has failed many leaders
and their cultures in the past, and it is often carried on today. This also ties into Beowulf s hero
model, which shows us how drastically the idea of heros have changed throughout history.
Beowulf s charismatic leadership style is adequate for him to achieve the role he deserves over
the Danes, although it comes along with several drawbacks. Beowulf comes to power by being
a courageous figure that comes to help the Danes in their time of need. He often brags about his
courageous acts to show his greatness, we see this when he is confronted by Unferth, The fact is,
Unferth, if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be Grendel would never have
got away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horrors
everywhere (590 594). After defeating Grendel, the Danes look to him as their invincible hero

  • 3. What Are The Similarities And Differences Between Koalas... Frogs are a large, carnivorous group of small bodied, tailless amphibians who on average live for 10 12 years. In contrast, koalas are arboreal herbivores and are marsupials that are native to Australia who can live up to 18 years, old according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koala. Although, these two animals, like many other creatures, are unfortunately endangered but for various reasons. There are countless problems facing towards koalas and frogs and they are obviously not all the same. The troubles that the koalas and frogs face can easily be compared and contrasted. Scientists have been looking for ways to save koalas and frogs, but they do not all work. Therefore, there are many similarities and distinctions between the problems for frogs and koalas. As a matter of fact, there are not too many similarities between the problems for these animals. Nonetheless, there is one major thing that has caused both of these animals to be endangered species, and that one thing is the work of humans. Without a doubt, humans specifically play a crucial role in killing off frogs and koalas around the globe. One particular part of these animals lives that are essential to them living is their habitat. Unfortunately, as the human population is growing at a fast rate, more and more of these habitats... • 5. Psychology Paper on My MotherВґs Student Not everyone has the luxury of good health and a good home life. When someone has either bad health, or a bad home life, there is plenty of pity to be felt; but when those two factors are combined, it paints a whole new picture. It is important to do everything in one s power to help them through the tough time and make it as painless as possible. That is exactly what I did in the case of one of my mother s students. She was having back surgery due to severe scoliosis, while also dealing with a mother who was addicted to painmedication. This girl was very worried that after the surgery was over and she was sent home, she would not be able to take her medication, fearing that her mother would take it for herself. When I heard that this student had asked my mother to accompany her for her procedure in Kansas City, I saw this as a golden opportunity. I could finally find out who this girl was that my mother was so caught up with, staying up at night worrying about. I could finally understand who I was sharing my mother with, and why. When I walked into the hospital room after her procedure, my mother s student was on a myriad of powerful painkillers, much to her dismay. This girl was terrified of taking the medication, because she did not want to end up like her mother. The girl s mother also had Scoliosis, and had developed a dependency for her pain medication, leading up to her developing a tolerance for it and taking her daughter s pills as well. My mother s ... With standards, regulations, and manuals to cover every just about every aspect of life for a soldier, marine, airman, and seaman it can be difficult to understand how these actions are possible among service members of any rank or branch. • 8. Analysis Of The Movie Arundel Partners Arundel Partners wants to buy the rights to produce the sequels in advance rather than negotiating on a film by film basis because otherwise, the studios will have an informational advantage. Later on in the production process, studios will have a greater idea of the quality of the film, making them less likely to sell the rights to more profitable sequels. Advanced rights to the entire portfolio of films mitigates this informational asymmetry and creates an options pricing model for Arundel. There is value in Arundel s right to forgo production of the sequel if they discover that the original is a flop. If Arundel chooses to forgo producing a sequel, in this model they are now only taking a $2M loss. To the movie studios, Arundel s proposal creates great value. By offering the cash for all movies in advance, Arundel is providing upfront financing to the cash hungry studios, allowing them the resources to pursue other projects, especially big budget blockbusters that have substantial negative costs. The guaranteed profit of the sequel rights fees abolishes some risk for the studios, even though it eliminates their potential upside. By purchasing the rights to an entire portfolio of films from the studios, it also serves Arundel to diversify away the risks of individual films, much like investing in diversified funds of market indexes. Based on the attached analysis, 26 of the 99 potential sequels are profitable to pursue as they have a positive NPV. The NPV of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Caroline Bird Education In the modern world, the value and the relevance of college education is a controversial issue. People hold varied views on this issue: some people are of the view that college education is the only mean to succeed in life and to achieve one s goals in life; some other people think that the value of collegeeducationlies in the fact that college education offers the young learners a conducive environment to grow and to be able to make mature decisions about themselves later in life. There are other people, like Caroline Bird, whose article we are going to critique in this paper, who see college education as a sheer waste of time and money for the majority of people. This paper focuses on Bird s article College is a Waste of Time and Money , the paper analyses and critiques the arguments that Bird offers in support of her view that college education is a sheer waste of time and money for the majority of people. The paper concludes with a recommendation on what need to be done so as to improve college education. The main theses of Bird in her critical view of college education is that ... The second strength of Bird s argument lies in the fact that Bird claims that college education may not have as high financial returns as many people think; Bird is right in her claim that financially, in the modern world, in some instances investing in college may be the dampest form of investment. Infrastructural Technology Proprietary technologies vs. Infrastructural technology Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is an example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more value when shared rather than used by a single organization. Carr s reasons why IT is a Commodity IT, according to Carr, has become affordable to all and therefore, it has been a commodity. He further argues that the use commodities do not lead to a completive advantage, and believes that IT has become commoditized for the following reasons: IT is highly replicable The arrival of the internet has accelerated the its commoditization IT is subject to rapid price deflation I agree with Carr s assessment on the commoditization of IT to some degree. For instance, it makes no sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar product can be bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application, they simple buy one that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office). I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize this trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace customized application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of IT by providing a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization will obtain their IT requirement by purchasing fee based web services ... Thereby, many states have authorized international institution to intervene and mediate conflicts between global sides so as to preserve human rights and protect innocent people. However, we occasionally notice that it is not always the case as it was pretended to be. Before the construction of the 3D shapes, while children are in the decorating stage, I will prompt thinking by asking how many sides their shape will have when it s completed or what side of the net do they think will be the base. One key problem with the worksheet selected, is that it names the 3D shape that will be created from the net. In reality, China s One Child Policy consisted of many one child policies, which were generally better implemented and stricter in urban areas than in rural areas. In addition to these demographic transformations, the human consequences of China s population policies are widespread. Women forced to undergo abortions and/or sterilizations suffer from emotional trauma, whereas non firstborn children are undocumented and legally unrecognized by society, lacking access to education, public services, and employment. In accordance with the goals of state population policies, China s fertility and birth rates after 1980 have drastically dropped, yet the unforeseen consequences of these population policies will continue to affect China for many years to come. Many scholars have researched China s population policies and its consequences. The health effects from sterilizations and forced abortions have been well investigated.1 The mental health of the first versus second and third children has also been compared in multiple studies.2 In Just One Child, Susan Greenhalgh argues that a lack of scientific judgment and input gave rise to the One Child Policy. Then, 0.75mL of 85% phosphoric acid using a pipette as well as adding a few boiling chips, to prevent bumping. The flask was then connected to the simple distillationapparatus. To set this apparatus up, micro kit, such as the following, were used to build it: short necked, round bottom flask, Viton connector with a support rod. A distillation head with a 105В° connecting adapter, air condenser, rubber connector, thermometer, thermometer adapter, Erlenmeyer flask that was used as the receiving flask, and a sand bath. The thermometer was carefully inserted into the rubber connector by holding the thermometer close to the adapter and sliding it in the connector using a twisting like motion; this was done while avoiding any forcing action which would have led to breaking of the thermometer. After the apparatus was built, the thermometer was fixed therefore its bulb was below the side arm and was not touching the sides of the glass; which ensured that the thermometer recorded the temperature of vapors which were distilling off. The apparatus was lowered making the round bottomed flask rest in the sand bath and tilting it therefore the condenser end is resting on the Erlenmeyer flask. The sand bath was turned on to start heating the reaction mixture. The reaction was boiled for 10 minutes before distilling was proceeded. After the ten minutes, the temperature of the sand bath was increased and distilling of the cyclohexene was commenced. The distillation head was wrapped with aluminum foil to prevent heat from going out. A spatula was used to adjust the sand surrounding the round bottomed flask to control the amount of heat that it tales in; it was adjusted therefore making the rate of distillation not faster than 2 drops per minute. This conclusion is not based on just one measurement and a number that comes up on a computer screen but on many types of evidence. Here I will try my very best to describe the evidence of how scientists have calculated the age of Earth. These methods are largely independent of each other and the history behind this is much longer than 10000 years. Many people have their beliefs. • 34. Eliminating Discrimination In The Workplace Essay examples As a business consultant I have been asked to suggest different methods that can possibly reduce discrimination and prejudice in the workplace. Is it possible however to make everyone get along and ignore their differences? According to the growing research on discrimination and prejudice, these are learned behaviors that with practice can be unlearned, and ultimately eliminated (Baron Branscombe, 2012, p. 195). Discriminationis defined as the negative treatment of different groups: Prejudice, on the other hand is viewed as the negative emotions or attitudes associated with discrimination (Baron Branscombe, 2012, p. 183). These two terms go hand in hand because they both can lead to racism; however, that is not suggesting that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2723). Many researchers agree that one seems to be closer or more cohesive to their own group and associate a sense of pride for each other; on the other hand, they tend to fear the out group because they are seen as the competitors, the enemies, and the traitors (Ramasubramanian, 2010; Baron Branscombe, 2012; Hirsh Lyons, 2010). Clearly this creates a disconnection between groups which make them feel a sense of threat for one another and prejudice feelings become more evident, while differences between the two appear. One of the most common theories that explain why prejudice persists today, as it relates to the workplace, is called realistic conflict theory (Baron Branscombe, 2012). This psychological theory states that prejudice is more frequent when competition arises in a situation where there are limited resources that only one group can claim (Bobo, 1983). However, since discrimination is a learned behavior as mentioned earlier, thus one can conclude that it can be socially influenced; therefore, behavior can be altered (Bobo Fox, 2003). With that being said, there are many methods and practices that can be used to reduce discrimination and prejudice feelings in the workplace between groups of different social status or authority (Dixon et al., 2010). These methods are recognized as interpersonal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Scene Analysis Of Goodfellas For my scene analysis, I will be talking about the scenes in Martin Scorsese s film, Goodfellas that take place inside the nightclub. The film portrays the true story of mobster Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta) who grows up in the mob and works hard to advance himself through the ranks. He enjoys his life of money and luxury, but is oblivious to the horror that he causes. During the film, the mobsters spend a lot of their time enjoying themselves at a nightclub they frequent called the Copacabana . In Goodfellas, the Copacabana is a high class nightclub littered with mafia gangsters and low key lighting with a red tint and a Hawaiian theme. The scenes were shot by cinematographer, Michael Ballhaus. Inside the club, the lighting is primarily dark with a tint of red which appears to be coming from the practicals seen within the shots. This is clearly to give off a dark mafia vibe within the setting of the film. The DP wants the audience to have a sense of slight discomfort within the nightclub and to foreshadow the dark events that take place throughout the rest of the film. The style of lighting displays the mafia lifestyle as something that is filled with murder, deception, and constant fear . Bright lighting is only used during happy events during the film such as Henry and Karen s wedding and to give off positive vibes for that moment. The scenes inside the nightclub seem to have a lighting ratio of around 8:1, so it s accurate to say the setting appeared pretty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was one of many novels published in the nineteenth and twentieth century, based on Big House life in Ireland. Bowen herself is critical of the Anglo Irish gentry as she believes that they are responsible for the downfall in the society. The denial of their predicament and also their refusal to except change had caused Bowen to be censorious of them. She expresses her points of symbolism, imagery and characterization using a variety of tactful techniques. In the analysis these factors and techniques will be discussed in greater detail. Lois, as the only alternative heir, complains that she feels trapped in a cocoon and longs for some other kind of existence. (Genet., J, p149, 1991) The ante room in which Lois visits frequently serves no particular purpose and therefore symbolizes that indeed the room compares to Lois feelings within herself of feeling lost and lonely. In her life deprived as she saw it there was no occasion for courage, which like an unused muscle slackened and slept (Bowen., E, p33, 1998) Another point which suggests Lois is lost and confused is the fact that often spends time walking outside the boundaries of the house which symbolizes her need to escape from this façade, the so called birthright of her generation. Inequalities in Australian Schooling Essay Inequalities in Australian Schooling: Sociocultural Factors in terms of Cultural Capital, Habitus and Social Reproduction There is a common, underlying perception that students from particular cultural and linguistic backgrounds what is generally referred to as ethnicity have a predisposition towards educational success in Australian schools (Watkins, 2013). Students from Anglo backgrounds, for example, are often seen as having a cultural advantage whilst others, such as Middle Eastern students, are perceived as culturally prone to underachievement. These claims confine ethnicity to fixed and bound stereotypes, and see educational achievement as a result of the inherent qualities of these groups (Watkins, 2013). However, ethnicity... In fact, studies indicated that Indigenous Australians are significantly behind non indigenous Australians in academic achievement (Bradley, Draca, Green Leeves, 2006). Geographical remoteness, socioeconomic status and indigenous ethnicity and culture have a major influence on educational success for Indigenous students. An example of this can be seen in rural indigenous communities where indigenous economic systems are still used, forcing a gap in terms of both geographical location and socioeconomic status (Altman, 2008). As a result of this gap, Indigenous students from these areas are not able to obtain the same level of education as students living in urban settings where colonial economic systems are recognised (Altman, 2008). These socio cultural factors construct a specific cultural capital for indigenous students that is not widely recognised in Australian schools as it is not the dominant capital presented in Western education environments. Ultimately, this leaves indigenous students, specifically those in geographically remote locations or of a socioeconomic status that doesn t allow a broader range of options, at an educational disadvantage. Ethnicity, geographical location and socioeconomic status play an important role in the construction of one s cultural capital and, as a consequence, one s ability to obtain educational success in Australian schools. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination in ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are used in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead to the groundwater contamination. Being in the city, it seems as there is no escape from the madness that is being offered. Surrounded by the man made building and artificial light that illuminates the struggle of these streets. Although, there is a place that offers freedom about fifteen minutes away from the cities madness. A place where the air is fresh, a place where gargantuan rocks act as buildings, a place where the sun, moon and stars are the source of light and a place that provides freedom from the worries of the city. This center of nature providing freedom from the busy city life is Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon as a space has a rhetorical significance as a location of freedom from city life with the multitude of space it provides.
