How to read an electric meter Electric consumption
How to read an electric meter Dial-type meters have four or five clock-like faces numbered in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. For these meters, you need to read the dials from right to left . Follow these guidelines when reading the dials… 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7
How to read an electric meter If the pointer is between two numbers, record the lowest number (if it’s between 9 and 0, you should record 9). In the example above, you should record 1. 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7
How to read an electric meter If the pointer is directly on a number, look at the dial to the right. If the pointer is between 9 and 0, record the smaller number. If it’s between 0 and 1, record the larger number. For the dials above, you have a 3 and a 9 (in fact, it means a 39 almost becoming a 40, but still a 39). 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7
How to read an electric meter To calculate your usage, read the numbers you recorded for each dial from left to right. For the example above, you should record 6751 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7
How to read an electric meter In the example above, you have 1812 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7
How to read an electric meter In the example above, you have 7543 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7 0 5 1 2 3 4 6 9 8 7
Electric consumption To determine how many kilowatt-hours (kwh) you have used, subtract the previous reading from the current reading. If necessary, multiply the difference by the meter multiplier, which can be found on your meter or your bill.
