Approaching partners
 Look for services that are adjacent to each other in the research
lifecycle
 Ask your colleagues for introductions
 Go to their office
 Define what you mean by data and data management
 Articulate the idea of partnership, with no duplication of services
– we are all experts in our own right
 Look for ways you can help them, kick off the cycle of
reciprocation
 Remember that the partnership is a long-term goal, so it’s OK if
the first meeting isn’t magical
 Follow up and keep in touch
Lessons Learned
 Active learning is preferred
 Meet with the partner a few days before to plan content
and timing
 The content won’t be 50/50 from each presenter
 Articulating that feedback will influence future workshop
design encourages participation
 It won’t be comprehensive – but it’s OK to leave them
wanting more!

 Bigger network for advertising and advocating
 Greater attendance at workshops
 Learn from partners and they from you
 Share the responsibility of content preparation

Retrieved from: library.ucf.edu/ScholarlyCommunication/ResearchLifecycleUCF.php University Libraries Rinehart.64@osu.edu Approaching partners  Look for services that are adjacent to each other in the research lifecycle  Ask your colleagues for introductions  Go to their office  Define what you mean by data and data management  Articulate the idea of partnership, with no duplication of services – we are all experts in our own right  Look for ways you can help them, kick off the cycle of reciprocation  Remember that the partnership is a long-term goal, so it’s OK if the first meeting isn’t magical  Follow up and keep in touch Lessons Learned  Active learning is preferred  Meet with the partner a few days before to plan content and timing  The content won’t be 50/50 from each presenter  Articulating that feedback will influence future workshop design encourages participation  It won’t be comprehensive – but it’s OK to leave them wanting more! Advantages of partnering  Bigger network for advertising and advocating  Greater attendance at workshops  Learn from partners and they from you  Share the responsibility of content preparation
