Rawe, short for Rural Agriculture Work Experience, is a transformative program designed to provide individuals with hands-on exposure to agricultural practices in rural settings. Rooted in the belief that understanding agriculture at its grassroots level is essential for sustainable food production and rural development, Rawe offers participants a unique opportunity to engage directly with the intricacies of farming life.
At its core, Rawe aims to bridge the gap between urban populations and rural communities, fostering a deeper appreciation for the importance of agriculture in sustaining livelihoods and nourishing societies. By immersing participants in the daily routines of farm life, the program seeks to instill a sense of respect for the land, the environment, and the hard work of those who depend on agriculture for their sustenance.
The Rawe experience begins with orientation sessions where participants are introduced to the fundamental principles of agriculture, ecological conservation, and sustainable farming practices. These sessions lay the groundwork for understanding the challenges and opportunities inherent in rural agriculture, setting the stage for meaningful engagement in the field.
Once immersed in rural communities, participants become active contributors to farm activities, working alongside local farmers to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops. From tilling the soil to caring for livestock, every aspect of farm life is an opportunity for hands-on learning and skill development. Under the guidance of experienced farmers, participants gain practical knowledge of agricultural techniques, learning the art of crop rotation, pest management, and soil conservation.
Beyond the physical labor of farming, Rawe encourages participants to engage with the broader social and economic dynamics of rural communities. Through interactions with local residents, cultural exchange activities, and community development projects, participants gain insight into the multifaceted nature of rural life. They learn about the challenges facing small-scale farmers, the importance of agricultural cooperatives, and the role of traditional knowledge in sustainable agriculture. Moreover, Rawe fosters a spirit of collaboration and mutual learning, creating opportunities for participants to share their skills and experiences with local communities. Whether through organizing workshops on organic farming techniques or assisting with agricultural extension services, participants become catalysts for positive change, empowering rural communities to enhance their agricultural productivity and resilience.
As participants immerse themselves in the rhythms of rural life, they develop a profound connection to the land and its inhabitants. They come to appreciate the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature, recognizing that sustainable agriculture is not just about maximizing yields but also about preserving ecosystems and nurturing biodiversity.

6. VILLAGE
SURVEY
Village surveys were carried out in the
different villages of district Mansa
All the students were divided into 3 or 4
groups and each group got a different
village to survey
We had to choose one farmer randomly
and to fill a proforma in which we had to
gather all the information about the
farmer, his family and all his work in the
field Borawal- is a village situated in
Budhlada tehsil of Mansa district
7. Farm Visits
During our field visits to the village of
Borawal, we actively engaged in
various agricultural interventions with
local farmers
These interaction helped us to improve
practical knowledge as well as also
enhance our communication skills
The following list highlights the
agriculture interventions we had
conducted
8. Agro-Industrial
Visits
As part of the RAWE module, I visited Sat Sahib
Seed Packaging Company in Mansa, Punjab
The experience provided valuable insights into
agribusiness, emphasizing the company's
commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and
professionalism
Overall, this comprehensive experience
significantly enriched my understanding of the
agro-industry, emphasizing the importance of
sustainable practices and attention to detail
9. Conclusion
One notable observation was the
lower participation of women in
agriculture
It is essential to break from the
traditional Wheat-Paddy cropping
pattern and consider cultivating other
useful crops
This way, we can enhance diversity
in farming, empower women, and
ensure sustainable and profitable
agriculture
