Managing You Time
An analogy that underscores the value of assigning, delegating and controlling
Richard T. Christensen, Management Consultant
In any organization, the manager s bosses, peers and subordinates, in return for their active support,
impose some requirements, just as the manager imposes some requirements upon them when they are
drawing upon his or her support. These demands constitute so much of the manager s time that
successful leadership hinges on an ability to control this monkey on the back effectively.
Why is it that managers are typically running out of time while their subordinates are typically
running out of work? In this article, we shall explore the meaning of management time as it relates to
the interaction between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Send me a memo on that.
Let us analyze this one. The monkey is now on the subordinate s back because the next move is his,
but it is poised for a leap. Watch that monkey. Johnson dutifully writes the requested memo and drops
it in his out basket. Shortly thereafter, the manager plucks it from his in basket and reads it. Whose
move is it now? The manager s. If he does not make a move soon, he will get a follow up memo from
the subordinate (this is another form of supervision). The longer the manager delays, the more
frustrated the subordinate will become (he ll be spinning his wheels ) and the more guilty the manager
will feel (his backlog of subordinate imposed time will be mounting).
Or suppose once again that at a meeting with a third subordinate, Smith, the manager agrees to
provide all the necessary backing for a public relations proposal he has just asked Smith to develop.
The manager s parting words to her are Just let me know how I can help. Now let us analyze this. Here
the monkey is initially on the subordinate s back. But for how long? Smith realizes that she cannot let
the manager know until her proposal has the manager s approval.

Zopicmo Essay
Recently I identified an area of our medication policy that required some improvement due to the way
that the list of medications were deemed as controlled medications and was such a comprehensive list
that included medications that we do not use at our service along with medications that are deemed
controlled by our own policies but not by government which then became restrictive to what time a
service user could take their medication.
The medication in question is named zopiclone and it is used to treat individuals who are completing
opiate detox to support with sleep. The new policy stated that this should be dispensed at 9pm and that
the client was then required to go to bed which, for someone who was completing an opiate detox is ...

As above and described in 5.3, on the back of the areas that were identified within the new medication
policy and dispensing procedures I arranged a telephone conference with our head of quality
department and some other managers from our other residential services to discuss the concerns that I
had identified after reviewing the medication policy.
After lengthy discussions about the areas of concern and the potential risks that these presented both
to staff and service users from a physical, mental and emotional perspective it was agreed that
zopiclone was no longer to be classed as a controlled medication and that the service user could take
this at a time of their choosing at night providing it was before the night worker finished dispensing
medication which was usually about 111pm and agreed that the service user would need to go to bed
within 15 minutes of taking this medication due to having a short timeframe of about 15 30 minutes
where it is effective. It was also agreed that the service user would also be advised of this information
to ensure that this is supportive to them through a physically difficult period whilst completing a
detox.
In regards to the medication paperwork for PRN medication it was agreed that we would use our old
medication dispensing form for PRN (when required) medications as this allowed staff to record the
date, time and reason as to why the

Contributions Of Ferdinand De Sassure
1. INTRODUCTION
Language is an important part of human society and plays a large role in the social process of
communications. Many approaches have been undertaken into the study and analysis. The different
stages of these studies have led to the advent of modern linguistics. This essay will focus of the
contributions of Ferdinand de Sassure to the development of modern linguistics. It will focus on a few
of the key concepts discussed and introduced by Sassure including structuralism and signs, which
contributed to the development of modern linguistics.
2. DEFINITION OF LINGUISTICS
Ferdinand de Sassure defined the scope and aims of what is known as modern linguistics as describing
all known languages and recording their history through tracing ... Show more content on

The sound concept may be replaced instead by the signifier; the sound pattern or word that represents
or refers to the concept and the signified; the concept that is represented by sound pattern or word. The
signifier and the signified will then form the sign. For example, the concept of a key can be
represented by signifiers in different languages. In the English language, the object used to open locks
and other enclosures is represented by the signifier key . In French, the same concept or signified is
represented by the signifier la clef .
4. CONCLUSION
Ferdinand de Saussure s ideas laid a significant foundation for modern linguistics. His idea of making
the language structure the central focus of linguistics enables linguists to break up a language into
interconnected parts and analyse them individually. It also highlights the relationship between a
language and the individuals that utilise the language, a vice versa. He also explained the relationship
between sounds and utterances in a language and what they represent through semiology.
Understanding Sassure s ideas are an indispensable tool in understanding the mechanisms of modern

My Experience Of My Life In A Refugee Camp
The life in the refugee camp was so miserable that we had no hope for bright future. My parents
always told me not to dream of having a luxurious life it is like committing a crime for us. However, I
had a self confident if I work hard and study well I will be able to do anything in life. make a secure
living for my whole family, but I was only a child I did not know anything about what my life would
be like when I grow up. Every time someone asks me what I want to become when I grow up, I used
to say Nurse without a second thought. My parents send me to camp school, it was an English medium
school where they teach us, English, Math, Science, Nepali, and Dzongkha subjects. We were
provided a pencil, eraser, and five note books for each subject. We were told we need to keep all the
things that they provide for a whole year. I was fortunate enough to get a basic education in camp
because not all refugee gets to attend school. I was a very talented student since childhood but due to
lack of higher education, I would not be able to attend college for further education.
My grandparents often recall their joyful life in Bhutan. My father has seven siblings, and mother has
thirteen. They had a great life, my father did not get to attend school because My grandparents had a
lot of land, animals and a restaurant which they own. We had over tens of cows, sheep, goats and

Summary Of Matty s The Messenger
Imagine a place where one s home town is being altered by a mayor with wrong reasoning. Were a
plan for a local forest with special powers is being destroyed. Matty is curious about what is going on
in the sacred woods down the street and does whatever it takes to find out. The Messenger by Lois
Lowry is a book that the Puritans would obliterate due to law breaking citizens, opposing authority
and being a naturally born sinner The Puritans would despise The Messenger because of law breaking
citizens. When Matty was 15 years old she had obtained a job delivering local mail and newspaper.
She had stumbled across an abandoned factory were they used to make pencils. Behind the factory
was a patch of woods were they used to dump and burn the sawdust. Matty would often go to the
woods to relax and think about her life when she wanted to be alone. She believed that the woods had
a special power for cheering her up when she was feeling down. One day when she was delivering the
newspaper she had dropped it and seen that they had begining plans to logout the forest and knocking
down the factory for a new shopping plaza. Matty knew the mayor was behind all of this and she didn

logging equipment were being brought in. Her parents knew she was sneaking out at night and went to
confront her about it. When they asked her why she would not say so they grounded her. Needless to
say Matty snuck out that night again to begin her protest plans for the next day. The next day the

Analysis Of The Poem Lizzy Axiak Aspirations
Lizzy Axiak Aspirations A Sherpa boy was born into a life adventure. He saw the natural beauty that
surrounded him, felt the blasts of breeze which invigorated him and heard the peaceful sounds of
tranquillity. How simple it is to imagine a life of adventure in a distant land. But if we allow it life can
be an exhilarating adventure. Each exciting moment in life can be a new page in our autobiography.
Our aspirations are simply the parameters on our life path some simple, some beyond the bounds of
possibility. Our aspirations are equally important as life itself; aspirations are the breath of life, chalice
of salvation. Unless we aspire we will expire. They define our life path, they tell us where to go, what
we want to become and where our lives are headed. Unlike all other living things which are content to
be, humans are driven to become greater. From the beginning of human civilisation we expanded
empires, extended dynasties and expressed feelings through art. Our lives today were simply founded
on the aspirations of our forefathers. As history progresses, human s dissatisfaction with the limits
nature has imposed on him has caused us to aspire to go faster, further, deeper and higher. So we
invented bullet trains, steamships, submarines and rocket ships. Before our aspirations can propel us
forward, we first must aspire before our dreams can come true we first must take the time to dream. In
my life time I aspire to close the rift between indigenous and

The Murder In The Shadows Short Story Analysis
There are two fundamental characters in each work. In Poe s The Murders in the Rue Morgue, there
are the detective C. Auguste Dupin and the storyteller. In Rampo s The Beast in the Shadows, the
detective is called Akechi Kogoro and the storyteller lead the story. Poe presents the model of the
detective who is constantly sharp and carefully observe everything in The Murders in the Rue Morgue,
surprisingly. The characters in the two stories are similar. For instance, the two detectives almost have
the same hobby. I think that it is because of Dupin and Akechi do the same thing for a living as a
detective. Detectives are typically men of sharp perception and are great at inferring a conclusion.
Hence, the two like perusing books. In The Murders in the Rue Morgue, the storyteller outlines the
first run through when detective Dupin and the storyteller meet at the library where there are many
books. In The Beast in the Shadows , there is likewise a delineation of Akechi s room which is loaded
with various books. There is additionally a vital character: storyteller. In both of Poe and Rampo s
stories, the storyteller clarifies the entire story and infrequently shows the detectives and even their
contemplations. In The Murders in the Rue Morgue, the storyteller portrays Dupin s general qualities
like this: Observing him in these moods, I often dwelt meditatively upon the old philosophy of the Bi

Evidence Based Practice For Pediatric Patients
Abstract: Evidence based practice plays a critical role in the care of pediatric patients. Evidence based
practice requires health care professionals to research and implement new evidence into their nursing
practice. New evidence can be used in all fields including pediatrics. It requires health care
professions to invest time outside of work to be able to access new research. Many barriers stand in
the way of implementing new protocols and procedures. Implementation can be supported with the
help of advocates to help further the process of adding new protocols and procedures. Standards of
practice are an essential to caring for patients in any field. Evidence based practice has brought about
new protocols in assessing pain in pediatric patients in the emergency department, ways to reduce
antibiotic resistance in children, and even helps nurses to determine the normal vital signs in pediatric
patients.
The medical field is an ever changing place. New medications, techniques, and products are coming
out every day. With all these new items, there needs to be current clinical evidence that proves the
effectiveness of such techniques and products and whether they can benefit a patient. In many settings,
nurses tend to use practice traditions that they use on a daily basis as part of a habit. With new
evidence, practice tradition interventions no longer support the actions. This is where evidence based
practice comes into play. Evidence based practice can be broken down into

My Culture, Identity, And Many Aspects Of My Cultural...
Each individual has a specific culture that can they can use to identify oneself. I discovered my own
cultural identity with the help of many aspects I have faced throughout my life. Culture is an
important role in everyone s life. Culture can be discovered by seeing how different an individual is
from someone else. It can also be seen even when you don t realize it. My family have been a major
impact on discovering my cultural identity. My cultural identity would not exist if it weren t for
previous experiences I have encountered up until this point. My cultural identity is involved in many
aspects of my life because of how my family influences my culture, how my view on culture differs
from everyone else, and how society views me.
My family influences my culture by introducing me to new things from their culture. As I am growing
up, I always think about how everything I have done in my life has led up to where I am as of now.
Similarly, In the Springboard article, Ethnic Hash , written by Patricia J. Williams, she questions,
What were the flavors, accents, and linguistic trills that were passed down to me over the ages?
(Williams 11) My family has been teaching me new things everyday that help identify my culture. My
name was given to me by my father and my grandmother and my mom chose my nickname. I like that
my name was given to me by multiple family members who all worked together to find something that
fits me perfectly. There are also many aspects of my culture that explain who I am. I grew up with my
mom, so I mainly grew up around the filipino culture. I would have to say that food has to be one of
the main aspects that have affected my culture. All my life, filipino food has been around and it helped
me get to know part of my culture even better. The different foods introduced me to different flavors
that are specific to their culture. The food can help explain who I am because it can determine what I
do and don t like. As a result of my family s influences, I have been able to identify myself as who I
am today. Other people s perspective on culture differs from my own. I view my culture as something
that is normal to my everyday routine. Others may see my culture as something they ve never seen

Bill Gates Vs Bill Gates Similarities
For people in my own age group, our oldest memories of computers are most likely the pinball game
on Windows XP, and Google s website showing a different font. A little earlier than that, documents
were saved on floppy disks instead of USB drives, and before that, network connections were made
over a phone line. However, it is hard for anyone to imagine a time when having a computer on every
desk and in every home was regarded as an impossibility, even if they remember those years
(Academy of Achievement). The personal computer has evolved into an essential tool in the daily
lives of most Americans, because of the wave of innovations that Bill Gates kicked off in 1975. Bill
Gates was raised as a fierce competitor, which he demonstrated at a young age when waterskiing or
playing tennis with his family. However, he was even more intense when he went up against
intellectual challenges, which his parents found out soon after enrolling him in the Lakeside School. In
1967, a terminal was set up in the Seattle private school, which could use the resources of an off site
computer for the duration of a paid session, and Gates was immediately hooked. Along with Paul
Allen, he learned the programming language, BASIC, which was in use at the time, and the two
students took every opportunity for computer time they could get. When Paul Allen reflected on this
time, he noted one key difference between Gates and himself: Where I was curious to study
everything in sight, Bill would

The AICPA in the auditing standards setting process has the responsibility to set the standards for the
audits needing to be performed of nonpublic entities. These audits are performed by the AICPA
through the issuance of Statements of Auditing Standards. The Statements of Auditing Standards were
established to address any issues or concerns of its standards throughout the audit process. As a result
of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, the PCAOB was established for setting standards for the audits of public

What Are the Most Important Differences Between...
What are the most important differences between Parliamentarism, Presidentialism and
Semi Presidentialism and what political implications follow from these differences?
In this essay, I will be identifying the underlying differences between the political systems of
Parliamentarism, Presidentialism and Semi Presidentialism. This will include identifying the different
types of governments concerning majority and minority rule and the elections that are held in the three
democratic systems above, accountability of the executive and legislator, and finally the separation of
power between the executive and the legislator of a state. Moreover I will be examining the political
implications these all hold for each of the three democratic states ... Show more content on

In the US the executive and the legislator are independent bodies voted for by the electorate. The
President has a fixed term of 4 years which cannot be dissolved by Congress as you were voted in by
the electorate. However in the UK, the executive can be replaced as it was appointed by the legislator
due to this some argue the Parliamentary system in the UK is less accountable than the US
Presidential system, as accountability is taken by the collective decisions of the cabinet in the UK
opposed to the US where the President is held accountable as an individual, so it is easier to criticise
as you are electing an individual not a party as seen in the UK. This in turn makes it much easier in the
US to hold the executive accountable and oust them from office at the end of their 4 year term as they
had won a popular vote obtaining a majority of 50% or more (Harris and Reiley,1998). In a
SemiPresidentialism nation, accountability is a priority which is why two executives are appointed in
form of the President and the Prime Minister. The President must cooperate and compromise with the
legislature as they are held accountable, which is highly advantageous in a divided liberal nation such
as France, as all matters must be taken into account.
The key difference between Presidentialism, Parliamentarism and SemiPresidentialism is the
separation of power between the executive body and the legislator. The executive, legislator and

Asbestos Betwee Case Study
Having already established the basis of a theoretical outlook as well as the social history of asbestos,
which is still produced and used in American manufacturing, we will now move on to explain the
methods we are using to collect our data. For our subject area, we have selected Oneida Herkimer,
Jefferson, Oswego, and Onondaga County Solid Waste Facilities located in Upstate New York, and we
will be exploring the differences in how asbestos is disposed of in each of these counties. We chose
these counties because our insider has had direct contact with the solid waste management bosses of
these counties and can easily obtain asbestos information. We believe this is best because it limits
under reporting of asbestos amounts in fear of public exposure. Furthermore, he has a case study we
hope to analysis on the differences in the removal of asbestos from Jefferson and Oswego. We plan to
find this out by using an interview process to collect our data. We will gather information by way of
interviews with leaders from the New York State Department of Labor as well as landfill operators in
each of the five counties listed above. We hope to analyze the discrepancies and pitfalls regarding

Symptoms And Treatment Of Psychiatric Illnesses
Introduction
Psychiatric illnesses affected heavily almost every country of the world. Billions of dollars are put to
research on psychiatric disorders every year. Although from time to time new methods of treatment
are followed by researchers. However the results and the efficiency of treatment are almost bleak. In
brain sciences the problems which we start with before hundred years are almost as such and with
psychiatry it becomes more compounded. We are not yet able to control the psychiatric problems even
with 21st century advances in the medical science. From time to time the scientists use multiple
approaches in understanding the puzzles in relation to the brain and its functions. Though we make a
small progress towards understanding or close to understanding such puzzles. However close analysis
shows that we are still far away from understanding some basic rules which the brain used throughout
its functions. There must lies a void in our understanding of the brain and its functioning. Though
brain is highly complex organ it also works through complex processes and mechanisms. There is the
exigent need to help understand the mysteries of the brain science and its functioning. There is a need
to help solve brain mysteries through multiple perspectives.

on some principles of classical or Newtonian physics. Such classical principles have been

Analysis Of The Rose That Grew From Concrete
Have you ever had that moment in life where you just want to give up, or cant take the bad stuff
anymore. Well I think we all have, since life really is no Crystal Stair . The poem Mother to Son is
about how life isn t always a crystal stair since the stairs are broken or have tacks and all that bad stuff
that is an obstacle you have to pass. The poem The Rose that Grew From Concrete is about a normal
rose that is growing from concrete where it seems impossible since it cannot provide nutrients but the
rose does it by persevering. Both poems share the theme of perseverance is the key but the authors do
that in similar and different ways. The authors developed the same theme in different ways and we can

The Rose is being strong and persevering to keep living. With life we can relate to this poem because
life throws problems at us like nothing and we have to keep persevering like the rose did when it was
growing in the concrete where there s almost no nutrients for it to eat off and die so maybe it could be
like someone homeless. They are living on the streets and have no food so they have to persevere in
order to live. Making up the theme of perseverance is the key. On the other hand, the author for
Mother to Son uses metaphor and conflict to develop the theme of perseverance is the key. With
metaphor being the stairs of life and conflict being the steps in the stairs that might be broken or with
tacks in it. Metaphor develops the theme of perseverance is the key in Mother to Son because the mom
uses the stairs to compare life and how it is difficult meaning you have to persevere. One piece of
evidence from the text is, Life for me ain t been no crystal stair. This shows the theme of perseverance
is the key because life isn t a crystal stair, it might have boards ripped out or tacks which represent the
problems while your facing while going up the stairs of life. This quote shows that the mother is
telling her son that life is no crystal meaning it s perfect with no problems or anything. Also, she is

The World Apart Doctrine By Leibniz
The metaphysical picture conveyed in the works of Leibniz is especially difficult to decipher, given
the scattering of his views among numerous papers and their profound interconnection with one
another. In this paper, the World Apart Doctrine will be explicated as it appears in Section 14 of the
Discourse on Metaphysics. As this excerpt alone is insufficient in explaining the role the thesis plays
in Leibniz s view as a whole, it will be broken down and analyzed as it relates to connected doctrines,
namely those of Universal Expression, Pre Established Harmony, and Predicate In Notion. The
compatibility of the World Apart doctrine with each of these fundamental views will be considered,
and it will be argued that, in all three cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For if I express the entire universe and it appears to me as though I am perceiving a cat along with a
collection of other individuals, how could I retain the perception that the perception is indeed shared
and express perceptions of other substances, which are not occurring? It could be protested that I
would be expressing possible beings, and so there is no issue with the appearance of a shared
perception with other substances. However, without my perception of the cat being shared by any
other substances (despite having the appearance to me of being collective), it seems as though
expressions of God and the universe would somehow be less diverse and, therefore, less perfect than if
my perception was shared. The most comprehensive expression of the universe, in this context, would

High Altitude Wind Power Generating System Essay
High Altitude Wind Power Generating System
Objectives:
1. To design and fabricate an indigenous small scale model of an Airborne Wind Energy (AWE)
System.
2. To assemble all the components of the Airborne Wind Turbine.
3. To conduct experimental analysis in order to obtain optimum outcome.
Introduction:
Electricity is the physical phenomena associated with the presence and flow of electric charges. It
plays a vital role in our day to day life. It is used in industries and household appliances like fan,
television, computer, heater etc. Without electricity it is difficult to lead our life comfortably. In
present generation, the consumption of electricity is more than its production. Hence, huge amount of
electrical energy has to be produced to meet the present requirements. There are a plenty of ways by
which electrical energy can be produced which includes the usage of both renewable and non
renewable energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy etc. This proposal deals
with the production of electricity by using Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS) which is one of an
airborne wind energy systems. It requires very minimal wind to function and its implementation saves
the conventional energy sources as well as create pollution free environment.
Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS) is one of the lighter than air wind turbine that rotates about
horizontal axis in response to wind, thereby generating electrical energy at a lower cost. The generated
electricity can be

The Book Of Job By Ecclesiaste
Summary: Job was a role model of a man who did nothing wrong, but endured great sorrows,
including the loss of everything he owned and his family. Throughout his suffering Job feels more and
more sorry for himself, wondering what he has done so wrong that God has cursed him like this. The
selection ends with Job and God conversing about how small Job is in the universe and how the plans
of God are much larger than any one man, no matter who, can even begin to comprehend.
Commentary: Many people look at this story and think wow, Job was a man of God and God would
still tear everything from Job, God is cruel and mean . However, if the reading was continued to the
ending of the book of Job it would be discovered that Job, similar to the story ... Show more content

When one reads the title wisdom is meaningless, that can be tough to swallow for someone who takes
great pride in their academic accomplishments. That is one reason why this book is depressing; when
one reads how pleasure is meaningless, it is easy for the bookworm to say to one who is indulging in
their search for pleasures what I am doing is much more lasting than what you are doing. But as it says
right in the Bible, both of them, along with others, are meaningless. It s painfully obvious that
everything someone has done will eventually fade away and the memory of their deed forgotten. Some
people might argue something like the deeds of George Washington will never be forgotten, but they
don t realize that time is the greatest eraser. There have been countless acts that in their time were
amazing, but at some point it didn t become common knowledge to most people. Continuing on in the
reading, the third section gives a little break in the clouds by saying that, while everything is
meaningless, everything has a purpose at some point in time. While that may not be a huge redeeming
portion of Ecclesiastes, it certainly brings a little less dread to the subject by demonstrating that
nothing is worthless in the long run. Every point of history had to have a stepping stone to get there, a
greater purpose than just

During the 1980s and 1990s the new HIV disease began to emerge in society and with it came harsh
stereotypes and discrimination against those who contracted it. Simultaneously, one of the most

Throughout his career Johnson gained three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was admitted

Following this abrupt and unexpected event, Johnson became one of the leading figures in the fight

Three Theoretical Approaches to Conselling
This essay will compare and contrast three theoretical approaches to counselling psychoanalysis,
person centered therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Underlying assumptions
Psychoanalysis assumes behaviours we display when we are adults are rooted in our childhood
experiences and CBT assumes behaviour as a learned response. Psychoanalysis links childhood event
and associated feelings to current problems which is similar to CBT where many of client s schemas

similarity of involving childhood experiences, psychoanalysis sees an individual as being driven by
unconscious urges but CBT sees an individual s behaviour as a learned response. Person centered

CBT assumes that the way we feel and behave is determined by how we perceive and structure our

Freud s structural model assumes that human psyche is created via the interaction of id, ego and

Iran-Contra Scandal
So I guess in a way they are counter revolutionary, and God bless them for being that way and I guess
that makes them contras, and so it makes me a contra too. In 1979, a bitter war broke out in Nicaragua
between the Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction, the Nicaraguan government, and the
Contras, a vicious rebel group. The goal of this war was simple, overthrow the Nicaraguan
government and restore freedom for all Nicaraguan citizens. It was this that caught the eye of the
American government and it was not too long before the U.S began to fund the Contras. Although the
United States government funded the contras, they viewed them with skepticism being that they were
extremely controversial.
The U.S president during this time, Ronald Reagan, fell in love with the contras belief system and
fought to keep them funded. Later on the United States support became limited, which left the
president in search of a new way to keep the Contras money flow regular. Soon after, former president
Ronald Reagan and his administrators contrived a way to continue to fund the contras without the
Congress approval. They concluded that selling arms and weapons to a harmless ally named Iran was
the only way to go. They would sell the weapons to Iran in exchange for money, which would then be
put into a secret bank account and sent to the Nicaraguan Contras. This idea was brilliant but illegal as
well, it was high treason. These series of events will forever be known as the

Skeletal Muscle Contraction And Relaxation Is Vital For
Skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation is vital for voluntary body movements to occur. Skeletal
muscles contract when myofibrils composed of actin and myosin slide past each other, which
contracts the muscle by altering its length. The gastrocnemius muscle in Rana pipiens, which is
attached to the sciatic nerve, can be stimulated to find threshold and maximal stimulus voltage. Once
threshold is reached, contraction amplitude increases with stimulus voltage until the maximal voltage
is reached, at which point it levels off. Altering the interstimulus interval can induce twitch summation
in the gastrocnemius, leading to one combined contraction with a high amplitude. Increased stimulus
frequency can be used to induce a tetanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twitches are the resulting contraction from the firing of an AP in muscles. Twitches are much longer
than the APs themselves. Twitch recruitment uses external stimuli to determine the threshold and
maximal voltages of nerves and muscles. Stimuli below the threshold voltage, or the minimum
stimulus strength required to elicit an action potential, will not cause a muscle to twitch. Once
threshold potential is determined, increased stimulus voltage will increase the contraction amplitude of
the twitch until the maximal stimulus is reached. The twitch will not significantly increase in strength
for any voltage above maximal. This is because at maximal stimulus voltage all motor units have
already been recruited to contract. The gastrocnemius muscle has a far higher threshold and maximal
voltage that the sciatic nerve due to its size and the number of motor units present in the
gastrocnemius. Along with increasing stimulus voltage, contraction amplitude can also be increased
through twitch summation. Twitch summation occurs when a muscle is stimulated twice in quick
succession, so that the second twitch occurs before the first twitch has relaxed. The twitches then
combine to form a stronger muscle contraction. This process is made possible by the temporal
relationship between a muscle s AP and the resulting twitch, which is far longer in duration than the 1
ms AP that causes it. Due to the nature of skeletal muscle contraction, the length tension relationship

Good Credit Score Essay
You work hard to maintain a good credit score by paying your bills on time and keeping payments low
enough to manage your monthly budget. Unfortunately, some things may adversely affect your credit
and you may not even realize it.
1. Paying Fines Late
Ooops! You got a parking ticket and you asked the judge for more time to pay it. He agreed to let you
have a payment arrangement, but make sure you honor the agreement. If any of those payments are
late, the court system may send your bill to a collection agency.
2. Paying Nondebt Items Late
Your credit score takes into account more than just your debt. A landlord could report a late rent
payment to a credit bureau, and so can your utility company. These types of nondebt payments don?t

Getting a Lot of Credit All at Once
On a big shopping trip, you decide to open four credit accounts at various stores so you can take
advantage of discounts on merchandise purchased with the in store credit during the winter holiday
shopping blitz. Unfortunately, those discounts at the register may cost you interest in the long run
because credit bureaus could lower your credit score. That?s because the stores make what?s called a ?
hard inquiry? into your credit.
When agencies make too many inquiries over a certain period of time, credit bureaus might dock your
credit score. Hard inquiries also happen when you pay for a rental car using a debit card, buy a new
cellphone, request a credit limit increase, open a new bank account and apply for a finance plan on a
big ticket item.
4. Canceling Cards You Paid Off
Paying off a credit card is great, just don?t cancel it. Canceling a line of credit damages your credit
score because it lowers the total amount of credit in your name. Getting rid of the account could also
lessen the time of your credit history, and that can affect whether you get a loan in the future. Keep
your oldest credit card active as it creates a longer credit history, even if you don?t plan to use the card
again once you pay it

Wireless Networks Can Be Broadly Classified Into Three...
Wireless Networks can be broadly classified into three categories: Infrastructure based networks,
Wireless LANs and Ad Hoc Networks. Infrastructure based networks are traditional cellular systems
which require base station infrastructure. Wireless LANs are very flexible within the reception area. It
requires low bandwidth when compared to wired networks. Ad Hoc networks are useful when the
infrastructure is not available, impractical or expensive to build.
In Cellular Wireless, spaces are divided into cells. Each cell consists of base stations which is
responsible to communicate with the hosts in its cell. Hosts moves from one cell to cell to another and
hand off occurs, the new base station takes care of the communication. In Multi hop wireless, mobility
causes a change of route. Hence it need to traverse multiple links to reach destination. Ad hoc network
is a self organizing multi hop wireless network, which relies neither on infrastructure nor on the
predetermined connectivity.
Rapid deployment of mobile users will be the need for the next generation wireless communication
systems. A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile users that communicate over constrained
wireless links with lower bandwidth. Network scenarios which include establishing dynamic
communication for emergency/rescue operations, survivable, efficient, disaster relief efforts and
military networks cannot rely on organized and centralized connectivity. Networks are known as ad
hoc because

Greed In The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
Throughout the ages, literature has consistently reflected the interests and activities of a people.
Therefore, some themes have been dominant in World Literature from ancient times to the present.
One such theme greed and generosity, which is explored in the French short story The Necklace by
Guy de Maupassant. On August 5, 1850, Maupassant was born near Normandy, France, where he
lived for the majority of his childhood. He was the first son of Laure Le Poittevin and Gustave de
Maupassant, who were both from prestigious bourgeois families. When Maupassant was eleven years
old, his parents were legally divorced and both he and his brother lived with their mother until the age
of thirteen when he attended a Catholic seminary school. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Madame Loisel serves as a stark contrast to both her husband, Monsieur Loisel, and Madame

contrasting desires of his wife to be further emphasized (Wilson 169). Although Monsieur Loisel
continuously tries to please his wife, she remains ungrateful and restless she is never satisfied with the
incredible effort he puts forth in order to make her happy. Once again trying to please his wife,
Monsieur Loisel manages to receive two invitations to a formal ball held by the Ministry of Public

She spent all her time doing household chores and creating a barrier between herself and her daughter.
Through introspection she realizes that she needs to spend more time with her daughter hugging and

author uses the point of view to stress one aspect of a story or a novel to make it more meaningful.
The point of view in this short story is crucial in understanding the phycological standpoint of the
main character. The author s decision to make this story in first person allows for the reader to really
get inside the character s head. If the story was not written in first person then it would be much harder
for the reader to understand the true feelings of the character. For instance, the regret the narrator felt
for the way she raised Emily would not be as evident and sincere if the author just wrote, The mother
really felt bad for the way she raised Emily. Another significant purpose of writing this story in first
person is because it allows the narrator to express her own thoughts and feelings. In order to fully
grasp the narrator s mindset it is necessary to hear the story from her point of view. One very
important aspect of a psychological story is introspection. The character looks into their actions and
thoughts and grows through their thoughts. It would be very difficult to see and understand the

Exploring Syncretism in Bless Me Ultima and The House on Mango Street
Syncretism is the fine line between Christianity and Native American Religions because it is the
ambivalent, simultaneous attraction of choice and identification to the influences of two or more
religious belief systems. Syncretism is most common among minority groups such as Hispanics. The
definition applied to their unique position of culture is brought about by the Native American and
Spanish ancestry. Ambivalence is shown even by the word Hispanic, which is an umbrella term. The

She represents the Native American minority culture and Christianity as a curandera. She is a Native
American spiritual healer who is derived from Rudolfo Anaya s own experience, of a woman who was
said to have powers to cure sickness (Hispanic Biography 42). The syncretism of Ultima s Christ like
abilities are given in two illustrations.
Ultima s Christ like nature is displayed through her abilities, or powers as a curandera to perform
miracles. Ultima s powers are shown in the text as being good; although, it is confusing to say whether
her powers are coming from Christianity, or witchcraft? To illustrate the issue of this comparison to
Christ, Antonio s mother recalls Ultima s powers saying, I have seen her work miracles. She learned
from the flying man from Las Pasturas (Anaya 85). The incongruity of this statement to that of
Christianity is clear cut. According to the Dictionary of Hispanic Biography, Anaya acquired the myth
and superstitions from his family who lived in Pastura about a women like Ultima, who could heal
(42). From Anaya s experience, syncretism of miracles and elements of superstition in folk
Catholicism is apparently true. However, the only one to perform miracles in Christianity is Christ.
To further illustrate the comparison of Ultima to Christ is the aura of power Ultima s character seems
to possess, and to which she gains respect as a healer. The instance in the text where

The Role Of Concreteness And Imagery Of Mental Processing
Psycholinguists are interested in the role of concreteness and imagery in mental processing. The dual
coding theory proposes that mental representations are associated with two distinct systems: the verbal
system, which deals specifically with language and the non verbal imagery system, which deals with
nonlinguistic objects and events (Clark Paivio 1991; Harley 2008; Paivio et al. 1988). The two
systems are distinct, yet they are interconnected to each other in a way that activation in one system
can lead to activation in the other. For example, one can think of the word apple and also visualize the
object apple. The dual coding theory holds that concrete language has the ability to activate both the
verbal and the visual system, while abstract language activates only the verbal system (Clark Paivio
1991; Kounios Holcomb 1994).
Previous studies in the field have shown that the imagery and concreteness of a word can influence its
identification. Specifically, it has been suggested that imagery can produce better performance in
learning and recall because of our ability to access existing mental representations and use them as
memory aids. The guiding question following from this is: Are concrete words indeed superior to
abstract words in their ability to evoke mental images? This paper intends to explore the dual coding
theory and the effects of concreteness and imagery in greater detail. I present studies that discuss the
role of images as possible mediators,

A Reflection On The Lost Palace Of Sparta
A REFLECTION ON MY NEWS STORY
When I googled on the Internet about a news story relating to Classical Studies, I happened to found
an interesting article on The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered in Live Science. My main
reason for choosing this news story was because I have always been interested in Late Bronze Age
Mycenaean
Civilization, since Mycenaean culture appears to be connected with Homer s Iliad s Trojan War.
Secondly, I took a course on Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate student in Classics.
Therefore, I studied the nineteenth century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and his excavation of
Agamemnon s palace and his gold mask at Mycenae inspired me very much. For me, the most striking
aspect of my news story was the Linear B tablets found on the site. Ghose (2015) stated that the
inscriptions represented the earliest form of the Greek language. Although the fire baked the tablets,
the fascinating writings on these Linear B tablets discussed clearly the centralized distribution of
goods like wool and grain, noted (Killgrove 2015). These inscriptions on the Linear B tablets give the
readers a history of palatial events in the Mycenaean period.
Yes, I was thinking about doing an article from the Ottawa Citizen about Ancient Menoral Roman
Treasure, but I did not know very much about the Gothic King Alaric. Therefore, I chose The Lost
Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered instead, because I have studied Homer s Iliad, Classical
Archaeology,

Soldiers were always looking for something to hang on to. They had to forget about their families and
the world they left behind into order to survive. In a place they knew absolutely nothing about, they
were so scared. They were scared of what they saw, but also of what they couldn t see, which was
usually the scariest thing of all. They were scared to make friends, for fear of suffering loss. They
were scared of not making it home. But then again, even after the war was hard. Soldiers kept on
having flashbacks, many became violent. The war changed everyone, and their families had to pay the
price.
The war inspired many of the surviving soldiers to do things. Some wrote books, some wrote poetry,
and some wrote music about their experiences in Vietnam. The war also inspired some people to do
one of the most rewarding things they could possibly do, which is to teach and not necessarily about
Vietnam, but just teaching in general. But those who do decide to teach about their experiences in
Vietnam have the rare opportunity to express themselves, their feelings, and the material they teach in
a way that no other teacher can do. They have the chance to pass on their knowledge in a unique

Inception is a science fiction film that was directed by Christopher Nolan and co produced by Emma

extracting information and planting ideas, which is called inception. After watching this movie, I was
deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its method of narration,
as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always draws the audience s

Research Methodology And Quantitative Research
This section of the study will outline the selected research methodology and the justification for these
selections. The key aim of this chapter is to elucidate the various methods of research, the chosen one,
the rationale of the chosen methodology and importantly how it appropriately suite the research. It is
first essential to start the difference between qualitative and quantitative research to determine which
method is best appropriate for this study. The data collection method will be properly outlined, clearly
stating the advantages and drawbacks.
Qualitative and Quantitative Research
Several academics have attempted to ascertain the differences between qualitative research and
quantitative research. Hair et al. (2007) for example emphasized the main differences stating that
quantitative data are measurement in which numbers are used directly to represent the characteristics
of something, thus, the number related records lends itself to statistical analysis. While qualitative data
represents descriptions of things that are made without assigning numbers directly. This method is
architecture to facilitate better understanding of people, understand the culture and social perspective
of people (Myers, 2009). The following differences were emphasized by Saunders et al. (2009) and
Hair et al. (2007):

Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist, stated the first stage of human development is one of the
most important. Because an infant is entirely dependent upon his or her caregivers, the quality of care
plays an important role in the shaping of the child s personality. In the case of Antowne Fisher, with
his unfortunate circumstance of the death of his father and the incarceration of his mother, he lacked
the care and love only parents can provide. However, once he entered the foster care system, Mrs.

Through the use of inconsistent and inappropriate rewards and punishments, Mizz Pickett introduces
in Antwone s life a lack of hope and nothingness. A vivid event, though quite tame in comparison to
the abuse, is one in which the Pickett foster children go trick or treating. Upon returning with joy
every child has during trick or treating, Mizz Pickett demands of them all the candy they received
placed in the box. Then, wiping her hands together first, Mizz Pickett slams the lid shut on the metal
box and slaps on a Master lock. Now, she says...Here it hits me she ain t gonna let us have none. I ve
give ya some uh dis here candy when you deserve some...and not until (Fisher, p. 54). It goes without
saying; there never came a situation where Mizz Pickett felt the children deserved any of the candy.
For Antwone, occurrences such as this would compromise his sense of initiative over guilt creating
fundamental inadequacy; a mark which would have detrimental effects later in his life. Antwone
Fisher s first two years of care from Mrs. Strange has manifested itself into a vital landmark in his
early years of development. More specifically, Antwone s development of the brain, physically and
cognitively provides the concrete evidence to support Erikson s stages of development. According to
Erikson s model, the stages prior school age include infancy and toddlerhood. During the infancy
period, a child s central process includes mutuality with

local level. For example, take a small neighborhood s community from a suburb or city like New
York, The largest concentration of hiring sites and day laborers is in the West, while the Midwest is
the region with the fewest number of sites and workers. The size of individual day labor hiring sites
varies considerably. One third of all sites are small sites (with 25 workers or less), 37 percent are
medium sites (with 26 to 50 job seekers), 23 percent are large sites (with 51 to 100 job seekers) and 7
percent are very large sites (with more than 100 job seekers). If you have a few hundred individuals
who s main form of work is day laboring and these individuals are getting cheated out of their already
low wages, you then have a large portion of the community that is not spending money because they
aren t making any. This lack of being able to support themselves means that there are even more
people in need of government benefits for those who are eligible. In addition, this demographic of
people who are spending less money are not able to support local businesses which causes a loss for

The Theory Of Science And Christian Belief
Provided that science still requires repeatable and measurable outcomes, the thought that eukaryotes
produced sophisticated human life capable of high functioning individuals when they could not even
develop the most basic features is preposterous. Although the previous claim may have been
overstepped, there are claims of theistic evolution that offer a logical argument to a personal creation
by the Living God. Arguments that God could take inert objects, add a dash of mutation, conceptualize
and implement natural selection, and allow this to take course in His time all have the potential to be
correct as stand alones. Diane Bissen is a renowned biologist and theologian; therefore she is as
capable as anyone combining these fields into the idea of theistic evolution. In digesting her rather
lengthy article in the twenty sixth edition of Science Christian Belief, I have drawn near to the concept
that, individually, the principles of evolution make logical sense, but when compiled together with one
or more other principles, they becomes purposeless and mindless.
Limiting the Creator to mere man made principles shows a lack of faith in Him. Even theistic
evolutionists agree that God is not subjected to the law of man. Commentaries of the Bible offer a
different spin on familiar stories. Through research, reaching Robert Alter s The Five Books of Moses
brought the Pentateuch into a light otherwise unexplored. On page twenty three of Alter s commentary
as he discusses

  • 2. Managing You Time An analogy that underscores the value of assigning, delegating and controlling Richard T. Christensen, Management Consultant In any organization, the manager s bosses, peers and subordinates, in return for their active support, impose some requirements, just as the manager imposes some requirements upon them when they are drawing upon his or her support. These demands constitute so much of the manager s time that successful leadership hinges on an ability to control this monkey on the back effectively. Why is it that managers are typically running out of time while their subordinates are typically running out of work? In this article, we shall explore the meaning of management time as it relates to the interaction between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Send me a memo on that. Let us analyze this one. The monkey is now on the subordinate s back because the next move is his, but it is poised for a leap. Watch that monkey. Johnson dutifully writes the requested memo and drops it in his out basket. Shortly thereafter, the manager plucks it from his in basket and reads it. Whose move is it now? The manager s. If he does not make a move soon, he will get a follow up memo from the subordinate (this is another form of supervision). The longer the manager delays, the more frustrated the subordinate will become (he ll be spinning his wheels ) and the more guilty the manager will feel (his backlog of subordinate imposed time will be mounting). Or suppose once again that at a meeting with a third subordinate, Smith, the manager agrees to provide all the necessary backing for a public relations proposal he has just asked Smith to develop. The manager s parting words to her are Just let me know how I can help. Now let us analyze this. Here the monkey is initially on the subordinate s back. But for how long? Smith realizes that she cannot let the manager know until her proposal has the manager s approval. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Zopicmo Essay Recently I identified an area of our medication policy that required some improvement due to the way that the list of medications were deemed as controlled medications and was such a comprehensive list that included medications that we do not use at our service along with medications that are deemed controlled by our own policies but not by government which then became restrictive to what time a service user could take their medication. The medication in question is named zopiclone and it is used to treat individuals who are completing opiate detox to support with sleep. The new policy stated that this should be dispensed at 9pm and that the client was then required to go to bed which, for someone who was completing an opiate detox is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As above and described in 5.3, on the back of the areas that were identified within the new medication policy and dispensing procedures I arranged a telephone conference with our head of quality department and some other managers from our other residential services to discuss the concerns that I had identified after reviewing the medication policy. After lengthy discussions about the areas of concern and the potential risks that these presented both to staff and service users from a physical, mental and emotional perspective it was agreed that zopiclone was no longer to be classed as a controlled medication and that the service user could take this at a time of their choosing at night providing it was before the night worker finished dispensing medication which was usually about 111pm and agreed that the service user would need to go to bed within 15 minutes of taking this medication due to having a short timeframe of about 15 30 minutes where it is effective. It was also agreed that the service user would also be advised of this information to ensure that this is supportive to them through a physically difficult period whilst completing a detox. In regards to the medication paperwork for PRN medication it was agreed that we would use our old medication dispensing form for PRN (when required) medications as this allowed staff to record the date, time and reason as to why the ... • 4. Contributions Of Ferdinand De Sassure 1. INTRODUCTION Language is an important part of human society and plays a large role in the social process of communications. Many approaches have been undertaken into the study and analysis. The different stages of these studies have led to the advent of modern linguistics. This essay will focus of the contributions of Ferdinand de Sassure to the development of modern linguistics. It will focus on a few of the key concepts discussed and introduced by Sassure including structuralism and signs, which contributed to the development of modern linguistics. 2. DEFINITION OF LINGUISTICS Ferdinand de Sassure defined the scope and aims of what is known as modern linguistics as describing all known languages and recording their history through tracing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sound concept may be replaced instead by the signifier; the sound pattern or word that represents or refers to the concept and the signified; the concept that is represented by sound pattern or word. The signifier and the signified will then form the sign. For example, the concept of a key can be represented by signifiers in different languages. In the English language, the object used to open locks and other enclosures is represented by the signifier key . In French, the same concept or signified is represented by the signifier la clef . 4. CONCLUSION Ferdinand de Saussure s ideas laid a significant foundation for modern linguistics. His idea of making the language structure the central focus of linguistics enables linguists to break up a language into interconnected parts and analyse them individually. It also highlights the relationship between a language and the individuals that utilise the language, a vice versa. He also explained the relationship between sounds and utterances in a language and what they represent through semiology. Understanding Sassure s ideas are an indispensable tool in understanding the mechanisms of modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Poem Lizzy Axiak Aspirations Lizzy Axiak Aspirations A Sherpa boy was born into a life adventure. He saw the natural beauty that surrounded him, felt the blasts of breeze which invigorated him and heard the peaceful sounds of tranquillity. How simple it is to imagine a life of adventure in a distant land. But if we allow it life can be an exhilarating adventure. Each exciting moment in life can be a new page in our autobiography. Our aspirations are simply the parameters on our life path some simple, some beyond the bounds of possibility. Our aspirations are equally important as life itself; aspirations are the breath of life, chalice of salvation. Unless we aspire we will expire. They define our life path, they tell us where to go, what we want to become and where our lives are headed. Unlike all other living things which are content to be, humans are driven to become greater. From the beginning of human civilisation we expanded empires, extended dynasties and expressed feelings through art. Our lives today were simply founded on the aspirations of our forefathers. As history progresses, human s dissatisfaction with the limits nature has imposed on him has caused us to aspire to go faster, further, deeper and higher. So we invented bullet trains, steamships, submarines and rocket ships. Before our aspirations can propel us forward, we first must aspire before our dreams can come true we first must take the time to dream. • 8. The Murder In The Shadows Short Story Analysis There are two fundamental characters in each work. In Poe s The Murders in the Rue Morgue, there are the detective C. Poe presents the model of the detective who is constantly sharp and carefully observe everything in The Murders in the Rue Morgue, surprisingly. The characters in the two stories are similar. For instance, the two detectives almost have the same hobby. I think that it is because of Dupin and Akechi do the same thing for a living as a detective. Detectives are typically men of sharp perception and are great at inferring a conclusion. Hence, the two like perusing books. In The Murders in the Rue Morgue, the storyteller outlines the first run through when detective Dupin and the storyteller meet at the library where there are many books. In The Beast in the Shadows , there is likewise a delineation of Akechi s room which is loaded with various books. There is additionally a vital character: storyteller. In both of Poe and Rampo s stories, the storyteller clarifies the entire story and infrequently shows the detectives and even their contemplations. Evidence based practice requires health care professionals to research and implement new evidence into their nursing practice. New evidence can be used in all fields including pediatrics. It requires health care professions to invest time outside of work to be able to access new research. Many barriers stand in the way of implementing new protocols and procedures. Implementation can be supported with the help of advocates to help further the process of adding new protocols and procedures. Standards of practice are an essential to caring for patients in any field. Evidence based practice has brought about new protocols in assessing pain in pediatric patients in the emergency department, ways to reduce antibiotic resistance in children, and even helps nurses to determine the normal vital signs in pediatric patients. The medical field is an ever changing place. New medications, techniques, and products are coming out every day. With all these new items, there needs to be current clinical evidence that proves the effectiveness of such techniques and products and whether they can benefit a patient. In many settings, nurses tend to use practice traditions that they use on a daily basis as part of a habit. With new evidence, practice tradition interventions no longer support the actions. I discovered my own cultural identity with the help of many aspects I have faced throughout my life. Culture is an important role in everyone s life. Culture can be discovered by seeing how different an individual is from someone else. It can also be seen even when you don t realize it. My family have been a major impact on discovering my cultural identity. My cultural identity would not exist if it weren t for previous experiences I have encountered up until this point. My cultural identity is involved in many aspects of my life because of how my family influences my culture, how my view on culture differs from everyone else, and how society views me. My family influences my culture by introducing me to new things from their culture. As I am growing up, I always think about how everything I have done in my life has led up to where I am as of now. Similarly, In the Springboard article, Ethnic Hash , written by Patricia J. Williams, she questions, What were the flavors, accents, and linguistic trills that were passed down to me over the ages? I like that my name was given to me by multiple family members who all worked together to find something that fits me perfectly. There are also many aspects of my culture that explain who I am. All my life, filipino food has been around and it helped me get to know part of my culture even better. The different foods introduced me to different flavors that are specific to their culture. The food can help explain who I am because it can determine what I do and don t like. As a result of my family s influences, I have been able to identify myself as who I am today. Bill Gates Vs Bill Gates Similarities For people in my own age group, our oldest memories of computers are most likely the pinball game on Windows XP, and Google s website showing a different font. A little earlier than that, documents were saved on floppy disks instead of USB drives, and before that, network connections were made over a phone line. However, it is hard for anyone to imagine a time when having a computer on every desk and in every home was regarded as an impossibility, even if they remember those years (Academy of Achievement). The personal computer has evolved into an essential tool in the daily lives of most Americans, because of the wave of innovations that Bill Gates kicked off in 1975. Bill Gates was raised as a fierce competitor, which he demonstrated at a young age when waterskiing or playing tennis with his family. However, he was even more intense when he went up against intellectual challenges, which his parents found out soon after enrolling him in the Lakeside School. In 1967, a terminal was set up in the Seattle private school, which could use the resources of an off site computer for the duration of a paid session, and Gates was immediately hooked. Along with Paul Allen, he learned the programming language, BASIC, which was in use at the time, and the two students took every opportunity for computer time they could get. When Paul Allen reflected on this time, he noted one key difference between Gates and himself: Where I was curious to study everything in sight, Bill would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the US the executive and the legislator are independent bodies voted for by the electorate. The President has a fixed term of 4 years which cannot be dissolved by Congress as you were voted in by the electorate. However in the UK, the executive can be replaced as it was appointed by the legislator due to this some argue the Parliamentary system in the UK is less accountable than the US Presidential system, as accountability is taken by the collective decisions of the cabinet in the UK opposed to the US where the President is held accountable as an individual, so it is easier to criticise as you are electing an individual not a party as seen in the UK. This in turn makes it much easier in the US to hold the executive accountable and oust them from office at the end of their 4 year term as they had won a popular vote obtaining a majority of 50% or more (Harris and Reiley,1998). In a SemiPresidentialism nation, accountability is a priority which is why two executives are appointed in form of the President and the Prime Minister. The President must cooperate and compromise with the legislature as they are held accountable, which is highly advantageous in a divided liberal nation such as France, as all matters must be taken into account. In brain sciences the problems which we start with before hundred years are almost as such and with psychiatry it becomes more compounded. To design and fabricate an indigenous small scale model of an Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) System. 2. To assemble all the components of the Airborne Wind Turbine. 3. To conduct experimental analysis in order to obtain optimum outcome. Introduction: Electricity is the physical phenomena associated with the presence and flow of electric charges. It plays a vital role in our day to day life. It is used in industries and household appliances like fan, television, computer, heater etc. Without electricity it is difficult to lead our life comfortably. In present generation, the consumption of electricity is more than its production. Hence, huge amount of electrical energy has to be produced to meet the present requirements. There are a plenty of ways by which electrical energy can be produced which includes the usage of both renewable and non renewable energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy etc. This proposal deals with the production of electricity by using Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS) which is one of an airborne wind energy systems. It requires very minimal wind to function and its implementation saves the conventional energy sources as well as create pollution free environment. • 22. Three Theoretical Approaches to Conselling This essay will compare and contrast three theoretical approaches to counselling psychoanalysis, person centered therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Underlying assumptions Psychoanalysis assumes behaviours we display when we are adults are rooted in our childhood experiences and CBT assumes behaviour as a learned response. Psychoanalysis links childhood event and associated feelings to current problems which is similar to CBT where many of client s schemas were created when he was very young and usually stems from childhood too. However, despite the similarity of involving childhood experiences, psychoanalysis sees an individual as being driven by unconscious urges but CBT sees an individual s behaviour as a learned response. Person centered differs from the previous two theories and it assumes clients as previously not being able to have self actualised. It does not necessarily view an individual as a product of their past experiences. CBT assumes that the way we feel and behave is determined by how we perceive and structure our experience, whereas person centered therapy assumes client had various experiences and a personality is developed as a result of the previous subjective experiences. Freud s structural model assumes that human psyche is created via the interaction of id, ego and superego. It also assumes that we are driven by internal biological sexual (Eros) and aggressive (Thanatos) drives. It is similar to Person centered such that the latter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1979, a bitter war broke out in Nicaragua between the Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction, the Nicaraguan government, and the Contras, a vicious rebel group. The goal of this war was simple, overthrow the Nicaraguan government and restore freedom for all Nicaraguan citizens. It was this that caught the eye of the American government and it was not too long before the U.S began to fund the Contras. The U.S president during this time, Ronald Reagan, fell in love with the contras belief system and fought to keep them funded. Later on the United States support became limited, which left the president in search of a new way to keep the Contras money flow regular. Soon after, former president Ronald Reagan and his administrators contrived a way to continue to fund the contras without the Congress approval. They concluded that selling arms and weapons to a harmless ally named Iran was the only way to go. Skeletal muscles contract when myofibrils composed of actin and myosin slide past each other, which contracts the muscle by altering its length. The gastrocnemius muscle in Rana pipiens, which is attached to the sciatic nerve, can be stimulated to find threshold and maximal stimulus voltage. Once threshold is reached, contraction amplitude increases with stimulus voltage until the maximal voltage is reached, at which point it levels off. Altering the interstimulus interval can induce twitch summation in the gastrocnemius, leading to one combined contraction with a high amplitude. Increased stimulus frequency can be used to induce a tetanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twitches are the resulting contraction from the firing of an AP in muscles. Twitches are much longer than the APs themselves. Twitch recruitment uses external stimuli to determine the threshold and maximal voltages of nerves and muscles. Stimuli below the threshold voltage, or the minimum stimulus strength required to elicit an action potential, will not cause a muscle to twitch. Once threshold potential is determined, increased stimulus voltage will increase the contraction amplitude of the twitch until the maximal stimulus is reached. The twitch will not significantly increase in strength for any voltage above maximal. This is because at maximal stimulus voltage all motor units have already been recruited to contract. The gastrocnemius muscle has a far higher threshold and maximal voltage that the sciatic nerve due to its size and the number of motor units present in the gastrocnemius. Along with increasing stimulus voltage, contraction amplitude can also be increased through twitch summation. Twitch summation occurs when a muscle is stimulated twice in quick succession, so that the second twitch occurs before the first twitch has relaxed. The twitches then combine to form a stronger muscle contraction. This process is made possible by the temporal relationship between a muscle s AP and the resulting twitch, which is far longer in duration than the 1 ms AP that causes it. Canceling Cards You Paid Off Paying off a credit card is great, just don?t cancel it. Canceling a line of credit damages your credit score because it lowers the total amount of credit in your name. Getting rid of the account could also lessen the time of your credit history, and that can affect whether you get a loan in the future. Keep your oldest credit card active as it creates a longer credit history, even if you don?t plan to use the card again once you pay it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Wireless Networks Can Be Broadly Classified Into Three... Wireless Networks can be broadly classified into three categories: Infrastructure based networks, Wireless LANs and Ad Hoc Networks. Infrastructure based networks are traditional cellular systems which require base station infrastructure. Wireless LANs are very flexible within the reception area. It requires low bandwidth when compared to wired networks. Ad Hoc networks are useful when the infrastructure is not available, impractical or expensive to build. In Cellular Wireless, spaces are divided into cells. Each cell consists of base stations which is responsible to communicate with the hosts in its cell. Hosts moves from one cell to cell to another and hand off occurs, the new base station takes care of the communication. In Multi hop wireless, mobility causes a change of route. Hence it need to traverse multiple links to reach destination. Ad hoc network is a self organizing multi hop wireless network, which relies neither on infrastructure nor on the predetermined connectivity. Rapid deployment of mobile users will be the need for the next generation wireless communication systems. A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile users that communicate over constrained wireless links with lower bandwidth. Network scenarios which include establishing dynamic communication for emergency/rescue operations, survivable, efficient, disaster relief efforts and military networks cannot rely on organized and centralized connectivity. Therefore, some themes have been dominant in World Literature from ancient times to the present. One such theme greed and generosity, which is explored in the French short story The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant. On August 5, 1850, Maupassant was born near Normandy, France, where he lived for the majority of his childhood. He was the first son of Laure Le Poittevin and Gustave de Maupassant, who were both from prestigious bourgeois families. When Maupassant was eleven years old, his parents were legally divorced and both he and his brother lived with their mother until the age of thirteen when he attended a Catholic seminary school. Monsieur Loisel s complacency and contentment with his social situation causes the contrasting desires of his wife to be further emphasized (Wilson 169). Although Monsieur Loisel continuously tries to please his wife, she remains ungrateful and restless she is never satisfied with the incredible effort he puts forth in order to make her happy. Once again trying to please his wife, Monsieur Loisel manages to receive two invitations to a formal ball held by the Ministry of Public Instruction. He has no desire to attend the ball himself, but wishes to give his wife a chance to live the life she desires, be it only for one night. Initially, Madame Loisel is unhappy with the invitation because, in her opinion, she does not possess an adequate dress for the ball. She spent all her time doing household chores and creating a barrier between herself and her daughter. Through introspection she realizes that she needs to spend more time with her daughter hugging and showing her love, but she is too late. The point of view in every work of literature can be different. An author uses the point of view to stress one aspect of a story or a novel to make it more meaningful. The point of view in this short story is crucial in understanding the phycological standpoint of the main character. The author s decision to make this story in first person allows for the reader to really get inside the character s head. If the story was not written in first person then it would be much harder for the reader to understand the true feelings of the character. For instance, the regret the narrator felt for the way she raised Emily would not be as evident and sincere if the author just wrote, The mother really felt bad for the way she raised Emily. Another significant purpose of writing this story in first person is because it allows the narrator to express her own thoughts and feelings. In order to fully grasp the narrator s mindset it is necessary to hear the story from her point of view. One very important aspect of a psychological story is introspection. The character looks into their actions and thoughts and grows through their thoughts. It would be very difficult to see and understand the introspection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exploring Syncretism in Bless Me Ultima and The House on Mango Street Syncretism is the fine line between Christianity and Native American Religions because it is the ambivalent, simultaneous attraction of choice and identification to the influences of two or more religious belief systems. Syncretism is most common among minority groups such as Hispanics. The definition applied to their unique position of culture is brought about by the Native American and Spanish ancestry. Ambivalence is shown even by the word Hispanic, which is an umbrella term. She is a Native American spiritual healer who is derived from Rudolfo Anaya s own experience, of a woman who was said to have powers to cure sickness (Hispanic Biography 42). The syncretism of Ultima s Christ like abilities are given in two illustrations. Ultima s Christ like nature is displayed through her abilities, or powers as a curandera to perform miracles. Ultima s powers are shown in the text as being good; although, it is confusing to say whether her powers are coming from Christianity, or witchcraft? To illustrate the issue of this comparison to Christ, Antonio s mother recalls Ultima s powers saying, I have seen her work miracles. She learned from the flying man from Las Pasturas (Anaya 85). The incongruity of this statement to that of Christianity is clear cut. According to the Dictionary of Hispanic Biography, Anaya acquired the myth and superstitions from his family who lived in Pastura about a women like Ultima, who could heal (42). From Anaya s experience, syncretism of miracles and elements of superstition in folk Catholicism is apparently true. However, the only one to perform miracles in Christianity is Christ. To further illustrate the comparison of Ultima to Christ is the aura of power Ultima s character seems to possess, and to which she gains respect as a healer. The instance in the text where ... • 31. The Role Of Concreteness And Imagery Of Mental Processing Psycholinguists are interested in the role of concreteness and imagery in mental processing. The dual coding theory proposes that mental representations are associated with two distinct systems: the verbal system, which deals specifically with language and the non verbal imagery system, which deals with nonlinguistic objects and events (Clark Paivio 1991; Harley 2008; Paivio et al. 1988). The two systems are distinct, yet they are interconnected to each other in a way that activation in one system can lead to activation in the other. For example, one can think of the word apple and also visualize the object apple. The dual coding theory holds that concrete language has the ability to activate both the verbal and the visual system, while abstract language activates only the verbal system (Clark Paivio 1991; Kounios Holcomb 1994). Previous studies in the field have shown that the imagery and concreteness of a word can influence its identification. Specifically, it has been suggested that imagery can produce better performance in learning and recall because of our ability to access existing mental representations and use them as memory aids. The guiding question following from this is: Are concrete words indeed superior to abstract words in their ability to evoke mental images? This paper intends to explore the dual coding theory and the effects of concreteness and imagery in greater detail. I present studies that discuss the role of images as possible mediators, ... A Reflection On The Lost Palace Of Sparta A REFLECTION ON MY NEWS STORY When I googled on the Internet about a news story relating to Classical Studies, I happened to found an interesting article on The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered in Live Science. My main reason for choosing this news story was because I have always been interested in Late Bronze Age Mycenaean Civilization, since Mycenaean culture appears to be connected with Homer s Iliad s Trojan War. Secondly, I took a course on Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate student in Classics. Therefore, I studied the nineteenth century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and his excavation of Agamemnon s palace and his gold mask at Mycenae inspired me very much. For me, the most striking aspect of my news story was the Linear B tablets found on the site. Ghose (2015) stated that the inscriptions represented the earliest form of the Greek language. Although the fire baked the tablets, the fascinating writings on these Linear B tablets discussed clearly the centralized distribution of goods like wool and grain, noted (Killgrove 2015). These inscriptions on the Linear B tablets give the readers a history of palatial events in the Mycenaean period. They were scared to make friends, for fear of suffering loss. They were scared of not making it home. But then again, even after the war was hard. Soldiers kept on having flashbacks, many became violent. The war changed everyone, and their families had to pay the price. The war inspired many of the surviving soldiers to do things. It is first essential to start the difference between qualitative and quantitative research to determine which method is best appropriate for this study. The data collection method will be properly outlined, clearly stating the advantages and drawbacks. Qualitative and Quantitative Research Several academics have attempted to ascertain the differences between qualitative research and quantitative research. Hair et al. While qualitative data represents descriptions of things that are made without assigning numbers directly. The Theory Of Science And Christian Belief Provided that science still requires repeatable and measurable outcomes, the thought that eukaryotes produced sophisticated human life capable of high functioning individuals when they could not even develop the most basic features is preposterous. Although the previous claim may have been overstepped, there are claims of theistic evolution that offer a logical argument to a personal creation by the Living God. Arguments that God could take inert objects, add a dash of mutation, conceptualize and implement natural selection, and allow this to take course in His time all have the potential to be correct as stand alones. Diane Bissen is a renowned biologist and theologian; therefore she is as capable as anyone combining these fields into the idea of theistic evolution.
